| | Praise the Lord and Pass the Starbucks! | | 2008-07-21 22:45:21 | | MONDAY, JULY 21Have you noticed what the major topic of conversation is across the nation? While Barack Obama wants to think the whole world is talking about him, and we're being treated to doom and gloom, the real conversation is about Starbucks. Is ours closing? Which one in Roswell will survive? (They're closing the one by Wallyworld). Well, we're saved here in Ruidoso. Ours is staying open. To celebrate her good fortune running the church bazaar (so far the take is over 10,000!) Josie sent me over to the establishment in question for some sort of a chocolate ... | | By: The Pink Flamingo | | |
| | Praise | | 2008-07-18 00:00:00 | | the God of sunrises and open roads
whispers in my ear all the prayers
I never had the courage to say out loud
makes the reality of being a woman
a blessing instead of a curse
grabs each grain of doubt
from the desert of my insecurities
and makes a spectacle
of how small and insignificant
they should be
the God of flavor and taunt
binds the corners of my mouth
to the headboard of my ears
ropes my stomach with boy scout knots
summons the powers that make rivers
rise and quicken through the deepest canyons
the God of rhythm and rhyme
uses the metronome in my chest
to keep time and pay homage to the omnipotent
has lips of talent and a tongue of envy
worships the juxtaposed
finds glory in the retelling
the God of precision and fantasy
is a selfless solution
for a broken world
a gilded framed abstract of awe and honesty
an image to cherish

| Praise the Lord and pass the license plates | | 2008-07-11 21:35:00 | | Christians looking to evangelize are understandably thrilled with the idea of "I Believe" license plates, nevermind that they may be unconstitutional. While the first amendment protects individuals rights to free speech, the cross and stained glass themed plates with the phrase "I Believe" across the bottom were cooked up by the South Carolina Senator Larry Grooms and endorsed unanimously by the state legislature, and a similar effort is underway in Florida. On those grounds, the plates may constitute a state sanctioning of one religion over another, and that raises the ire of non-Christians and free speech advocates. The group Americans United for Separation of Church and State tossed a yellow flag on the field and blew its lawsuit whistle to block these plates from seeing the light of day, spurring a respectfully blistering outpouring of "you'll burn in Hell, thank you" messages from plate supporters. The fight ensues, disenfranchised citizens or not, though we think these plates mi | | By: Car News | | |
| | Praise The Lord And Pass The Ammo! DC'ers Get Their Guns Back! | | 2008-06-26 11:40:00 | | Amazing! Absolutely fantastic is all I can say. Washington D.C.'s 30+ year old gun ban, that is directly responsible for the city having the highest violent crime rate in the nation, has been ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL by The Supreme Court. A 5-4 decision has ruled that the 2nd Amendment gives individual citizens the right to "keep and bear arms" for defense.
And specifically mentioned were handguns, as being the preferable weapon of choice. Namely because you can aim it at a target while dialing a phone. I'm almost willing to bet that the citizenry there will have purchased around a million handguns by the end of next month!
No, not really that many. (Nice thought though.) But I do believe that once the dust from this settles, there will be a drastic dip in violent crime in the area. Just like in every other city that has defended the right to own firearms. (Cough, cough, Kenesaw, Ga.)

| | Stay-At-Home Moms Should Get More Public Praise | | 2008-05-09 11:37:06 | | As a society, we like to honor people who have done extraordinary things. People who have sacrificed something for the good of society often get recognized for their efforts. Since getting married and having children, I have been thinking a lot of the incredible value of mothers staying at home with their children and running a healthy household, and the little value they have in society's eyes.
The mother's place in the family is truly where the heart lies. A healthy household has a very capable, righteous, and respected mother. And healthy families make a healthy society. So why doesn't society honor its most honorable member - a mother who chooses to sacrifice honors, titles, and money for a healthy family and ultimately a healthy society? Other less honorable members are often praised. Though they might have done praiseworthy acts, they are often compensated in some way for their efforts.

| | Top 8 Sing Praise | | 2008-04-11 05:48:12 | | Sorry--I just could not resist posting this studio version of the American Idol top 8 singing "Shout to the Lord". This is a powerful song. I know a few of them may not have meant what they were singing, but they sang these words over and over and over to practice and perform this song, so can you imagine the seed this may have planted in their hearts? Not to mention the millions of people watching who may have been hearing this song for the first time, I'm sure many hearts where touched. Who is this Jesus who could have made someone write such a song from their heart? I just love the picture of them at the end of this little slideshow. I just get so attached to these people every year. It made my heart so glad to hear this song from them. Also, this was one of Beverly's favorite songs and she was also a huge American Idol fan. She would have been so excited. | | By: Homekeeping Heart | | |

She said, 'I have a Praise.' Two months ago, my husband, Jim, had a terrible bicycle wreck and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him.'You could hear an audible gasp from the men in the congregation as they imagined the pain that poor Jim experienced. She continued, 'Jim was unable to hold me or the children and every move caused him terrible pain. We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation. They were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Jim's scrotum and wrap wire around it to hold it in place.'Again, the men in the Congregation squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Jim.She continued, 'Now, Jim is out of the hospital and the doctor's say, with time, his scrotum should recover completely.'All the men sighed with relief. | | By: Really funny jokes

She’s been having problems with her reading and writing, but she was able sit at her computer yesterday and type out a blog post. You can read it here. His idea is that while she is being bombarded by the radiation treatments, she’ll also be bombarded by prayers. | | praise or criticism | | 2007-12-09 08:35:00 | | for which you give more consideration, do you think more about a praising comment or a criticism ,you can simply look at it this way :count the number of good or bad comments ,so if for every ten people who praise you you receive on bad opinion ,that means that you are on the right trackok ,so that wasn't very serious ; you still should think about the negative comment, and that in order to correct any mistakes that maybe pointed out to you by a loyal friend , but that isn't the case always , often we get negative opinion from people who are strangers or who we don't get along with well ,so the point is to select the person that you trust and consider his opinion and discard the rest .so the solution is : think about positive remarks first and spend a 50% more time thinking about positive remarks that you get ,so it is not so hard after all:) | | By: roneceve

Produced by Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch and directed by System of a Down's Shavo, the video contains music from songs 'Give Thanks and Praises,' and 'Jah Love.' Shavo said he wanted to "capture what they are about, which is a certain intensity" with this video, which he described as "glorious film style" and "punk meets reggae."Bad Brains themselves, however, had a slightly lighter take on the shoot. "We like the Black Bon Jovi in this video," Darryl Jenifer told Spinner. "All slow-mowed off the bus and s***, locks blowing in the wind like we were opening for Heart on Don Kirschner's 'Rock Concert.'"And you'll find photos on Spinner here.

Hands up anyone who owns a Zune?’. A solitary arm was raised in reponse to Edge's question at London’s Royal Opera House. 'Who owns an iPod?' Surprise - almost every arm in the room shot up, which was Edge's cue to celebrate the achievements of his good friend Jonny Ive,'The iPod is such an integral part of our lives that it's hard to believe there was a time when it didn't exist. But there was. Remarkably, someone went to work one day, stared at a blank piece of paper, and dreamed up this beautiful, clever, desirable piece of kit. GQ's Product Designer of the Year is the creator of the iPod, the iPhone, and quite simply everything we know and love about Apple. He brings beautiful objects to the masses, he is the truly gifted Jonathan Ive.'Edge was joined at the event by Paul McGuinness and Kathy; also presenting awards were Helena Christensen, Madonna | | By: All The Music News

makes a difference in how she feels. And get this! Remember the
prayer request yesterday for her appetite? Well, today she ate ALL her

not just because she needed it, but because she WANTED it! She told me
that she knew it was the prayers of the people that were sustaining

| | Praise God For Newday | | 2007-08-09 14:24:34 | | I got back from Newday yesterday afternoon. Wow. Of course, I would have written earlier but I just had to sleep. And shower. Getting home meant I could stand under the shower. And flush the toilet. And lie on my bed. And eat food from a fridge. All just because I could! Oh yes, the showers. We had vastly superior sanitation facilities this year. The toilets were so non-camping I actually got through quite a bit of various reading materials. And the showers were always warm, and with no queues mornings were blissful with the pleasure of forgetting we were camping. And so people took wholehearted advantage of the showers. However, this meant too much water was being used on the campsite – which had to sustain over 6,000 people – so a five minute limit was imposed on showers. Of course, short of draconian measures this restriction was unenforceable. So I had the pleasure of waiting one afternoon for 25 minutes as three lads decided to not only discuss the fittest girls in their yout | | By: Reflections Of A Lucky Man | | |
| | Praise God for Mystery | | 2007-08-01 12:14:30 | | This Sunday just gone was my last ever time with my church - the church I've been staff at for three years. But more than that, its the church I've been part of. So its more than just a job change. Its like moving away from family, knowing next time you see them there will have so many changes there will be but a distant recognition. Part of the morning included praying me off. Quite amusing in one sense, as I'm not going somewhere known right now. Various prophetic words came my way, including a picture of me diving off a diving board in faith, into a swimming pool - I've done faith dives before, but this time the board is higher and the swimming pool is larger and deeper, and a pool that I'm going to be swimming in. Also, a reminder that I'm on a walk of faith and God will come through for me, but it is gonna be an 11th hour thing. | | Praise God For Change | | 2007-07-24 22:56:01 | | Its been a while. Again. What can i say, I've been busy. There has been the small matter of my pending homelessness / unemployment / ecclesiastical nomadry, so I've had stuff to focus on. But its time for a catch up. So here we go! My new birkenstocks arrived this week. They are so comfortable, but a git to drive in. Although whilst i am happy wearing flip-flops with jeans, I'm not so sure about sandals with jeans. What do you think? Since the demise of Dell, I have been searching for the right partner for me. Although when does searching become emotional promiscuity? I fear i crossed the line, as i made use of a number of different potential partners to try to ease my pain since Dell met his maker. This included, shamefully, me making use of Desktop – it was an ugly thing, and purely a rebound act of desperation on my part. This brief liaison ended when i realised Desktop wasn't flexible, particularly when it came to location. So inevitably, we parted ways. Next stop was Adve | | By: Reflections Of A Lucky Man | | |

Thackeray lived in Paris for a while, and developed a taste for bouillabaisse which he honoured in a poem. That's really not very long in the scheme of things! Now, since my last post I've had many thoughts about my next step. And many conversations. Some have been spontaneous, some planned. Some invited, some uninvited. Some have been helpful, while some, quite frankly, haven't been. One was even very discouraging. My wrestle is with what can be called 'sanctified common sense.' I have a brain, you see. Questionable i know, but there is much empirical evidence that i do. The routine blinking of my eyelids, for one. Now, i am clearly stepping out in faith with my recent decision – as the previous post testifies. But once again, I say amen and it's still raining. As the thunder rolls I barely hear You whisper through the rain, "I'm with you" ; and as Your mercy falls I raise my hands and praise the God who gives and takes away. And I'll praise you in this storm, and I will lift my hands, for You are who You are no matter where I am; and every tear I've cried You hold in your hand. You never left my side and though my heart is torn I will praise You in this storm.I remember when I stumbled in the wind, You heard my cry to You and raised me up again. My strength is almost gone - how can I carry on if I can't find You? His role was played by newcomer Sam Riley. Riley said he was "working in a warehouse in Leeds folding shirts" when he was cast for the role.Film director Anton Corbijn said the fresh face had brought "an innocence and freshness that I was hoping for but never thought I would find"."This is a very hard role for anybody to play, because it is very hard to fit in somebody's shoes who has become an icon in many people's eyes." "I can't think of the movie without Sam, to be very honest - I think he gave everything to that role."It was his first film, it was my first film - in a way we had nothing to lose."The story describes Curtis' short life, his struggle with epilepsy, and his love for his wife and a Belgian | | By: Celebrity Smack!

But it does mean I have a number of interesting things to write about. And I shall. Friday I was at a National Evangelists Summit. We have them every year, where about eighty of us get together for training, mingling and chewing the fat. I’ve never considered myself a pure evangelist so I’m kinda surprised to have been there the last three years. I snuck in the back door when my old pastor took me, and since then they’ve invited me back of my own accord. Still, not a problem cos I can steal ideas and be kept sharp in an area I do have an edge in. The summit was basically tons of seminars on evangelistic topics, such as Preaching To Greeks (communicating biblical truth to a non Christian audience who have no biblical knowledge); 12 Reasons Why Healing Is A Gift For Today (theology addressing objections raised by anyone who believes healing is no longer a spiritual gift operating today) and Growing A | | By: Reflections Of A Lucky Man

I had a 7am meeting, but normal proceedings mean I slope in at about 6.58am, gutturally demand a tankard of coffee, and slump back behind the eye shield that my baseball cap provides me, alongside its other function of taming the nights work of the bed hair fairy. However, I was alert. I was sharp. I was bright. There was something wrong with me…. With sermonising complete, I was free to catch up on emails I had neglected. Both in reading, and in sending. I also took some time to study Ruth 1 with some study notes.I watch Crash, which is an excellent movie and I recommend it. Some friends came round for a spot of candlelit deep and meaningfuls. I then got tired and kicked them out. Today really hasn’t been that interesting actually. | | Praise God For Sandpaper | | 2007-05-08 10:44:56 | | "Character is what you are when no one else is looking....." "Iron sharpens iron….." "Its character-building..." All these things are very true. And flippin’ hard! I can’t help thinking that life is part of a process. Granted, belief in a sovereign providentual personal Father God theologically ticks the right boxes of the rather commonly used saying "everything happens for a reason." However, various things have occurred that make me think that this isn't just fate or randomness, and whilst its encouraging that God is reassuring me it doesn’t make the whole experience any easier. I spent part of the day praying through Psalm 116. (I love Psalms. So much so that I thoroughly enjoyed talking about them with Deej last night.) I love prayer. I might even post a file of my recent sermon on it in my blog, should anyone express an interest. Also, I love the way God speaks so timely through scripture. This particular Psalm talks about God as my shield and my help, my gracious a | | By: Reflections Of A Lucky Man
| | Praise God For Misunderstandings | | 2007-05-08 10:43:31 | | My day consisted of an all dayer with a guy I’ve struck up a friendship with. He’s a very gifted prophetic minister, and three times over the last two years has brought significantly insightful and shaping words in various contexts. The most recent one opened a door for us to put some time together to talk about some mutual issues we both have some level of involvement with now, and more so in the future. So I was looking forward to getting out of the office, travelling to Brighton (about an hour away) and just sharing hearts. Alas, he forgot. I arrived at 11.30, and waited. Midday, I rang his mobile but encountered the aural apparition that is voicemail. Of course, it is never wise to speak to spectres so I didn’t leave a message. Assuming I had made a mistake on the time or date, I sent a self-deprecating text. 12.30, nothing. One of his colleagues, who was in my theology year class, was passing by and after exchanging Christian pleasantries (namely, a hug, a shoulder clasp, | | By: Reflections Of A Lucky Man | | |
| | In praise of Moroccan doctors | | 2007-05-05 15:34:00 | | Recently an English visitor became gravely ill with what looked like food poisoning. It was not. In a matter of hours his condition became far worse to the point where later doctors said he was three minutes from death. The prompt action and accurate diagnosis as well as a marathon race to get him to hospital, saved his life. It is worth reflecting that in a lot of so-called developed countries he could well have died while waiting for medical assistance. Here is David's story, told by his brother Andrew.Having spent many a day in Fez not being able to stray to far from a loo, it was no surprise to me when my brother David and myself went down with a bout of diarrhoea.Take nothing, that‘s the best way to beat the dreaded illness, just liquids. On the second day David’s sickness developed into vomiting and mine started to ease off.We where all due to fly back to England the following day and it was decided that my wife Ann Marie would stay and take care of David with my younger b | | By: THE VIEW FROM FEZ | | |
| | Praise God For Rob Bell | | 2007-04-27 18:11:06 | | Watched my first NOOMA video today by Rob Bell. Having heard a lot about the ‘next big thing’ - both positive and negative - I figured I’d check him out myself rather than listen to second hand opinions. As you can see from my new widget thingy on the right of my blog, I’ve just started reading a book. Without pictures or pop up bits! I’ve only read the first chapter so far. But its not like me not to comment, so here goes for my initial thoughts: A lot of criticism has been thrown at Bell because of his alleged liberal leanings. Interestingly, the fourth page has a paragraph in his book where Bell writes: “Jesus at one point claimed to be “the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus was not making claims about one religion being better than all other religions…. Rather, he was telling those who were following him that his way is the way to the depth of reality.” What are your initial reactions to that quote? Read it quote again. | | Praise God For The Mutual Love Club | | 2007-04-20 01:27:25 | | Its time. I have decided to join this discussion, and cast my vote. So, in purely alphabetical order, here are my musings on your lovely, lovely people Arty Arty’s mind and heart amazes me – she is pure passion in all she does, thinks, says and feels. The more we talk, the more I read her writing, the more she shares her thoughts, the more I’m challenged and inspired. Her writings and perceptions have caused me to ponder what I’ve considered ‘beauty.’ I love her determination to succeed, and to hold her own. She also is one of those rare people who can charm me to lower my guard, and speak right into my soul. Her sharp mind and deep heart open up a new world for me – I love her questioning mind and the way she can turn everything into a story or a picture. Her sharp wit and defiance hides a tenderness and softness that can melt many a hard heart. She inspires me to find goodness in everything, for goodness sake.
