Prior to tonights Mets/Marlins matchup Fredi Gonzalez was handed down a 1 game suspension for leaving the clubhouse after being tossed from last nights game. Gonzalez will serve the suspension tonight, leaving the managerial duties to bench coach Carlos Tosca. Gonzalez was ejected in the third inning of Thursday’s 5-4, 11-inning win over the Phillies after arguing a play at first base. In the fourth, when the benches cleared, Gonzalez appeared from the clubhouse to assist with the peacekeeping process. Per Juan C. Rodriguez’s Sentinel article…
“I didn’t want it to escalate,” said Gonzalez, adding his sole purpose was to get guys back in the dugout. “I didn’t go out there to instigate anything.”
Dontrelle Willis and Jon Lieber were also fined for being ninnies. As Paulie said in Goodfellas after Henry Hill got pinched for his first time, “You popped your cherry!”

The Marlins today play the first of three at Tampa Bay, the eighth of 10 this trip to Washington (0-3), Pittsburgh (2-2), Tampa (3g). The Marlins went 3-4 on their last homestand against the Padres (1-2) and Dodgers (2-2). FLA: RHP Ricky Nolasco (1-1, 6.06 ERA)
In his last start, on Saturday, Nolasco worked four innings in a game that was delayed two hours, 51 minutes at RFK Stadium in Washington. The right-hander was not involved in the decision, as he gave up one run on three hits with three walks. Nolasco threw 65 pitches, and his velocity was down a little bit. He has been on the disabled list this season with a sore elbow.

The Marlins continue the three game set against the Nationals today in Washington after they were blanked 6-0 last evening in the first shut out loss of the year. Florida is looking for its bats to wake up in the second game of the series on Saturday at RFK Stadium.

FLA: RHP Ricky Nolasco (1-1, 7.30 ERA)
Even though he gave up six runs on 10 hits his last time out — against the Dodgers on Sunday — Nolasco was able to log six innings and toss 100 pitches. The right-hander continues to build back his arm strength after a DL stint with a sore elbow. The 24-year-old was 3-1 with a 4.82 ERA against the Nationals last year.
