Economic Slowdown Just Getting Started, Says Credit Crisis 'Prophet'
    2008-08-07 11:08:00
Disappointing July same-store sales figures from Wal-Mart and Target today point not just to the struggling consumer, but why this economic slowdown is just getting started, says Joshua Rosner, managing director at Graham Fisher & Co.Recent slowdowns have been corporate driven, which Rosner notes are typically short and sharp as CEOs seek to slash costs (and jobs) in order to quickly "rightsize" their businesses. In a consumer-led slowdown, like the one underway, slowing consumer spending first hit retailers, then manufacturing, then warehouse space, he explains. In such a scenario, rising unemployment is a lagging indicator, meaning the recent four-year high 5.7% unemployment rate is highly unlikely to be the peak.As unemployment keeps rising, consumer spending will slow further, putting more pressure on corporate balance sheets, leading to more jobs losses (repeat ad nauseum). That, in turn, will lead to defaults on commercial mortgage-backed securities (and related losses for their h...

Spiritual Crisis of Prophet Muhammad | The experiences of 'Dark Night of the Soul'
    2008-08-01 08:01:31
By the glorious morning light, and the still night when it covers with darkness.Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He become displeased, and verily the latter state is better for you than the former.- Ad Duha (The Morning Hours), 93:1-3, The QuranHave We not expanded for you the inner heart? and removed from you burden which weighed down your back?... Surely, with difficulty is ease.- Al Inshirah (The Expansion), 94:1,2, 5, The Quran1.There are couple of full chapters in Quran, Ad Duha (93) and Al Inshirah (94) that sheds light on Prophet Muhammad's own spiritual crisis during the time of his Prophetic Mission which can be identified as his experience of 'Dark Night of the Soul'. Worth mentioning that the expression Dark Night of the Soul is used to describe a phase in a person's spiritual life, a metaphor for a certain loneliness, crisis, feeling of being forsaken and desolation.Understandably, Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace be upon him, even before he received revelation of Go...

True wisdom is timeless, hence exact similar traces of wisdom can be found from enlightened ones of all ages, all traditions.Bedouin: I wish to be the richest person in the world.Prophet: Be content and you will be the richest person in the world.on similar note Buddha's saying as appearing in Dhammapada, "contentment is the greatest wealth."Bedouin: I would like to be the most learned of people.Prophet: Fear God with Holy Fear and you will be the most learned of people.similarly Proverbs 1:7 declares, "The holy fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge (gnosis) …" Bedouin: I would like to be the most just of people.Prophet: Desire for others what you would like for yourself and you would be the most just of people.reminds Christ (Matthew, 22:36), "Love your neighbor as yourself."Tse-kung asked, 'Is there one word that can s...

Prophet's birthday celebration across the world
    2008-03-20 10:48:09
Muslims across the globe celebrate the Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad in diverse fashion with benediction, blessings and prayer for the Prophet in all language including that of common Arabic.Annemarie Schimmel, reported that custom of celebrating Mohammed’s birthday (Maulid, Mawlud, Milad-un-Nabi, Mevlud) on a large scale first appeared in Egypt during the time of Fathimiyah (969 - 1171 M). That celebration was attended by Islamic scholars who heard lectures about the history of the Prophet. In northern Iraq, the preparation for Maulid began early in the month of Muharram. Huts were set up for guests who came from out of town.In Turkey, mosques are decorated with lamps. In Egypt, the leader of Mamluk holds a big ceremony to celebrate Maulid in the courtyard of Cairo's castle (Read: Annemarie, And Muhammad Is God's Courier). In many other Muslim countries, the day is celebrated by lighting torches and parading around the city. Nearly all Muslims abide by this tradition, except few...

    Prayer before Prophet's Tomb | by al-Shadhili
    2008-03-19 22:29:35
Great saint Abu-l-Hassan ash-Shadhili (b. 1196/1197 - d. 1258), may God sanctify his station was the Qutb of his time and the founder shaykh of the Tariqa ash Shadhiliya. When al-Shadhili, approached Medina, may God ennoble and exalt it increasingly, he stood before the door of the sacred precinct (the tomb of the Prophet) from early morning until noon, bareheaded, and barefooted requesting permission of the Apostle of God to enter.Asked why he did so, he replied, "That he might give me permission, for God says, 'O you who believe, enter not the Prophet's houses until permission be grated to you.' (Q 33.53).Then, he heard the voice of one calling from within the Noble Garden, like that of the one dwelling there, saying, "Blessings and peace in abundance, O 'Ali! Enter!"So he stood before the Noble Garden and said, "Peace be upon thee, O Prophet, with the mercy and benediction of God! The blessing of God be upon thee, O Apostle of God!"The most excellent, the purest, the most sublime, an...

CHILDREN WHO WERE BROUGHT UP BY PROPHET MUHAMMED (PBUH)
    2008-03-15 04:55:00
CHILDREN WHO WERE BROUGHT UP BY PROPHET MUHAMMED (PBUH)Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) established a relationship with the children who were close to him from the moment they were born. He would read the adhan (the call to prayer) in their ear, name them, change the name of those who had been given a name with negative connotations, and have a sacrificial animal slaughtered as thanksgiving for their birth. For example, when Hasan was born he read the call to prayer in both ears. On the day following the birth of Ibrahim he explained to the Companions why he had given this name to his child: "Last night a son was born to me. I named him after my ancestor Ibrahim (Abraham)." He did not approve of the name Harb (war) that was given to his grandchildren Hasan, Huseyin and Muhassin, and changed their names. This relationship that started with the birth would continue.Prophet Muhammad would put the children on his back or on his lap and play with them. In fact sometimes Prophet Muhammad would put ch...

Dreaming Prophet Muhammad | from autobiography of Shaykh Muzaffer Ashki al-Jerrahi
    2008-03-12 04:45:11
    | Shaykh Muzaffer Ashki al-Jerrahi (1916 - 1985) |rev. Guide of Halveti-Jerrahi sufi orderThe dreaming of the Prophet Muhammad, the Messenger of God holds very special status in Islamic tradition, both exoteric and esoteric. The Prophet himself has recorded (ref. Tirmidhi) to have said the following about seeing him in dream: "He who sees my hilye (description) after me, it is as if he had actually seen me, and he who sees it out of love and desire for me, God will forbid the fire of Hell to touch him. He will be safe from the trials of the grave, and he will not be sent forth naked on the day of resurrection."In 1981, Shaykh Muzaffer wrote brief autobiography in his book Unveiling of Love: Sufism and the Remembrance of God, where he mentioned about his profound dream of the Messenger of God, Muhammad, other Biblical Prophets and many of the chosen spiritual companions of Prophet Muhammad who attained highest degree of spiritual enlightenment. Shaykh Muzaffer writes:"During my early yo...

Blessed month of Prophet's birthday | Rabi-al Awwal
    2008-03-11 07:49:42
With the current new moon we have entered into a new lunar month. In Islamic calendar this is a specially blessed month called Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Hijri calendar. This month includes the birthday of the holy Prophet Muhammad, upon him be Divine grace.According to sunni scholars the Prophet's birthday is observed on 12th Rabi al-awwal (falls on 20th March this year 2008) and 17th Rabi al-awwal (march 25 this year) according to shia scholars. This is also the month of Prophet's emigration to Medina (then known as city of Yathrib) where he established the first community of the believers. Tala'al Badru Alayna is the song that the children of Medina sang to welcome the beloved Prophet:Tala'al-Badru 'alayna, min thaniyyatil-Wada'wajaba al-shukru 'alayna,ma da'a lillahi da'O the White Moon rose over usFrom the Valley of Wada'And we owe it to show gratefulnessWhere the call is to AllahAyyuha al-mab'uthu finaji'ta bi-al-amri al-muta'Ji'ta sharrafta al-Madinahmarhaban ya khayr...

    The Poverty of Prophet Muhammad
    2008-02-27 02:25:51
Faqr FakhriPoverty is my pride- Prophet MuhammadAli Eteraz writes beautifully worth sharing here:(...) the abject poverty that afflicted the Prophet Muhammad. Here was a man who was subjected to such a long series of painful episodes, and survived them all so miraculously, that it was almost if God put him here on earth to disprove despair. That you could lose your parents within your first eight years and still become a man; that you could lose your family and their protectioin and still become a leader; that you could lose numerous sons in that age in which children are the most innocent and still be compassionate; that you could have stones thrown at your head till pools of blood accumulated in your shoes and still not give in to vengeance; that you could have your uncle impaled upon spears and his heart literally eaten and still forgive the killers; that you could sleep on mats of hay and still be regal; that you could be so lonely that rather than sitting in the city circles you ha...

Prophet Muhammad's Advice of Spiritual Wisdom
    2008-01-17 23:36:57
......................... Abu Dharr al-Ghafari, a famous companion of the Prophet narrated, "I entered one day in the midday in the presence of the Messenger of God in his mosque. I didn't see anyone at all in the mosque except the Messenger of God and Ali who was sitting by his side, so I took the opportunity of the emptiness to approach the Prophet and asked his advice that God will give benefit by it ...". The Prophet gave him advice mentioning that for surely it is the collection of all the paths of goodness."Worship God as if You see Him and if You weren't seeing Him (You must understand that) surely He sees You. Know You that the first of worship of God is (Ma'rifa) gnosis, for He is surely the first before every other thing, so there is nothing before Him, The singlemost without any second, the continuing without an end. He is the Creator of the heavens and earth and whatever is in them and between them and He is the Subtle, the Aware, and He has power over all things; then belief in me and acknowledgment that God sent me to all of humanity as a bearer of glad tidings, a warner, a caller to God by His permission and a illuminating torch of light; Then the love of the people of my spiritual abode and my spiritual successor, those from whom God has removed every impurity and purified them a perfect purification (The Quran 33:33).You must know that God, the Great and Majestic, has made the 'Ahl al Bait' (family and the spiritual successors) in my nation the likliness of the ship of Nuh (Noah) whoever rides it is saved and whoever desires other than it is drowned. He has made them the likeliness of the Gate of Jericho among the Banu Israel, whoever enters the gate is safe. There are two blessings seriously taken for granted (misused) by mankind, health and spare time.Take advantage of five things before five things seize you; Your youth before Your old age, your health before your sickness, Your wealth before your poverty, your spare time before your being ...

Whirling of Abu Bakr | a true Dervish and beloved companion of Prophet Muhammad
    2007-12-15 21:03:56
'Umar ibn Khattab, the companion of Prophet and second caliph of muslim community reported: One day the Messenger of Allah asked us for donations (for the newly established community). The desire came to me to surpass Abu Bakr, who had always been ahead of me in every good deed, I brought a fortune representing half of all I possessed and came to the presence of the Prophet. The Holy Prophet enquired of Umar as to what he had left behind for himself and his family. Umar stated that he had donated one half of his wealth in the name of Allah and had left one half for himself and his family. Then Abu Bakr came in with a large sack of gold and placed it at the feet of our Master. The Holy Prophet put him the same question. Abu Bakr answered that he has donated all his wealth. Then the Messenger of Allah, looking at me, asked Abu Bakr, "Why haven't you kept anything for your children?" stop the discrimination against the Egyptian Christians, the Copts | a reminder from Prophet Muhammad's charter of privileges to Christians
    2007-11-14 10:16:32
Few days back i received an email from the Arab Writers Group Syndicate calling attention to the discrimination and violation of human rights by the Egyptian officials against the native Egyptian Christian community, also known as the Copts. Its totally unacceptable and also against the ethics of Islam. It must be noted that this problem is from corrupted political system, degradation of moral ethics and human value which we find so often in our troubled time.. Egyptian Christians: Strangers in their Native Land! The Copts, Egypt’s indigenous, pre-Arab, pre-Islamic Christians, are a native ethno-religious group of Egypt. Egyptian Christians trace their ancestry to the indigenous Pharaonic-era population of Egypt, converted to Christianity by St. Mark, one of Christ’s earliest disciples. Today Copts number approximately seven to twelve million people and constitute between 10% and 15% of the Egyptian population, making them the largest indigenous Christian community in both Africa a...

    MEANING OF PROPHET
    2007-11-03 11:28:00
MEANING OF PROPHETThe Quran refers to the kindness of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) towards all creatures and his compassion and grace for humans: "There had come unto you a Messenger, one of yourselves, unto whom whatever that you are overburdened is grievous, full of concern for you, for the believers full of pity, merciful."In this verse, Allah gives the names Rauf (very compassionate) and Rahim (very merciful), both of which are of His names, to the Prophet. No other prophet before Muhammad had been given both of these names. In human relations, the most important characteristic of understanding the other is being kind. Thanks to the Prophet's kind character, he was welcomed by people and had a special place in their hearts. After all, it is not genius or intellect, but character and consistency that affect people in human relations. In this respect, Allah orders: "It was by the mercy of Allah that you were lenient with them, for if you had been stern and fierce of heart they would have ...

"A PROPHET WHO COULD REMAIN HUMAN WHEN TURNING TOWARDS ALLAH"
    2007-10-26 10:55:00
A PROPHET WHO COULD REMAIN HUMAN WHEN TURNING TOWARDS ALLAHKathleen St.Onge is a public school teacher and a convert to Islam. She speaks regularly on Islam and develops internet projects to promote faith-based living and religious tolerance. She lives in Toronto, Ontario. She has written a book called "Bridge to Light" that came out of the Light Publishing. How did you come to embrace Islam? Is there any "one" incident you can pinpoint? There are three incidents which seem to me to have been turning points, though God knows best the signs and steps by which I have actually made this journey, by His grace. The first was that I met two practising Muslims while teaching university in British Columbia in the year 2000. They impressed me with their calm and dignity, and with the fact that they would not drink alcohol, even in the middle of the "party atmosphere" which clearly characterizes the campuses of most universities in the West. The second incident was that I picked up a kind of conde...

    Prophet's Eid and the Orphan
    2007-10-13 02:08:20
    1. It was Eid day, the day of celebration and a day of rejoicing. There was an air of festivity in the streets of Madinah. All the people, both young and old were dressed in their best clothes, especially for this special day of Eid.As it was time for early morning Eid prayers everyone made their way to an open piece of land on the outskirts of the city. The Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace, arrived and led the prayers. After they had finished they all greeted each other and everyone was walking back home. The children running and playing in excitement, smiling and laughing, without a care in the world. As the Prophet walked back home, he suddenly became aware of a little boy (Zuhair Bin Saghir) sitting by himself on the side of the path. The little boy was crying and looked very sad. The Prophet of love and mercy bent down and patted him on the shoulders and asked 'why are you crying?' 'Please leave me alone' sobbed the little boy. The boy didn't even see who was talking to him, such was his overwhelming sadness. The loving Prophet ran his fingers through the boy's hair and very gently and kindly asked him again why he was crying. This time the boy said, 'My father was martyred fighting, and now my mother has married again and my stepfather does not want me to live at home any more. Today is Eid and everyone is happy. All the children have new clothes and nice things to eat, but I don't have any clothes except what I am wearing. I have no food and I don't even have a place to live.'The Prophet said to him, 'I know how you feel, I lost both my mother and father when I was a little boy.' The boy was surprised to hear that it was an orphan who was comforting him, and when he looked up to his great surprise it was the Prophet Muhammad, the most beloved person in the whole world - and he immediately jumped up to his feet out of love and respect. The Prophet said to him 'If I were to become your new father and Ayesha you new mother, and Fatima your new sister, would that make you feel better?' 'Oh yes, that would be the best thing in the world!' The boy started smiling. The Prophet took him home and gave him new clothes and good food on this beautiful day of Eid. The boy indeed had a wonderful Eid that day. Later on Zuhair Bin Saghir, who was a companion of Prophet said, “I was hungry and thirsty. Messenger of God fed me. I was an orphan, but now, Prophet Muhammad is my father and Hazrat Aisha is my mother. I am no longer an orphan.”2.Some one asked the Prophet Muhammad, what actions are most excellent? He replied, To gladden the heart of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the wrongs of the injured.May be we can make our Eid more meaningful by helping out someone less fortunate than us. May be we can gladden another heart and bring smile at another person's face to make it a real day of happiness on this Eid. Not everyone has such a wonderful day. It is a day of celebration, but take a moment to stop and think of those who are less fortunate than ourselves. That's the real following of Blessed Prophet's path. May your path also be blessed. Peace and blessings be with you. Eid Mubarak! . text credit / photo: afghani boy . related post: what actions are the most excellent?...

    Prophet Muhammad's Meditation
    2007-10-11 03:47:24
1.It is known from historical accounts that before his prophetic illumination, the last Divine Messenger, Prophet Muhammad used to go to spiritual seclusions and extended retreats of meditation into Mouth Hira near Mecca. It is during one of such meditation retreats (in the holy month of Ramadan) in a defining moment of extra-cosmic enlightenment, Divine revelations started to reveal to him. The well-preserved collection of such Divine revelations later came to be known as Quran which literally means recitation because the Prophet following the inspirations, used to recite it to others including his companions. Now, interestingly nobody surely knows about the exact method of meditation that Prophet Muhammad used in his very personal experience in Mount Hira. The aspect of meditation and its teaching was most probably passed down to very inner circle of elect companions such as Ali, Abu Bakr, Fatima etc. who are known for their more evolved and higher spiritual station. The validation of the previous statement can be derived from the historical fact that holy companions like Ali, Abu Bakr were able to reach elevated levels of intense concentration and super-conscious stages during their formal prayers, which signifies that they were taught the science of concentration (which basically meditation is).Now Sufis or Muslim mystics preserved the tradition of meditation unlike the orthodox schools of Islam. Different Sufi groups have their different method of meditations transmitted from Prophet to his different elect companions. Prophet's meditation was and still is one of my most fascinating area of interest. Once in a conference I had the courage to ask Shaykh Hisham Muhammad Kabbani, the current spiritual master of distinguished Naqshbandi Order, whether the methods of Prophet's meditative experiences, specially in Hira mountain cave are recorded. The Shaykh replied, "nobody knows except Allah".2.Now as a learner if one approach (in a very human, rational way) about the urge to know the methods of Prophet Muhammad's meditation, it is very much plausible to think that since he was practicing this prior to his divine inspiration - he might have been introduced to the idea of meditation at some point of time earlier. It is known from the life of the holy Prophet that he used to travel to Syria in his young age. At that time Syria and that part of the world was the center of devout monks, mystics, kabbalists, sabians, gnostics - vibrating with fusion of different traditions. Now if one has to trace back the history of meditational techniques among different world faiths and analyze the time line (because the more ancient it is, the more sophisticated it might become over the time with accumulation of wisdom) - one is sure to go back to ancient land of Indus valley (hence the name Hindus) we now call India. Many scholars do acknowledge that fact that ancient Indian spiritual wisdom did spread beyond its boundaries. It was instrumental in influencing other religious and spiritual practices. Thus cross-cultural and cross-spiritual exchange was a very much possible reality prior and during the time of the Prophet. Hindu civilization having very rich tradition of meditation techniques was borrowed by others and assimilated into their own. Its not impossible that gnostics and ancient spiritual groups, particularly the Christian monks did know about such techniques from exchange of pilgrims among various lands. What my hypothesis is: it is very much possible that the meditation technique Prophet Muhammad used to practice might have been learned or influenced from gnostics during his trips to Syria and adjacent lands which again might have been inherited it from ancient Indian wisdom of meditation. The reason of saying that among many other reasons is because Indian meditation technique is one of the most sophisticated science of meditation known to mankind that still thrives today. If one look at the eastern meditation techniques, specially that of ancient science of Yoga from India, one will easily agree with that.Just as Islam is a transmission and continuation of Divine Inspiration from Judeo-Christian tradition, so is possible the cross-spiritual transmission of eastern ideas and techniques. Specially when it comes to higher level of consciousness and the art of self realization through meditation, it does hints to collective human experience across race and space. The idea of Prophet Muhammad's meditation always fascinates me and tracing its root in the broader context of collective human experience, (to my personal observation) one has to go back to Indian or Yogic wisdom of meditation because it is one of the most original, most ancient (we are talking about thousands of years before the birth of Christ even) and most importantly one of the most refined techniques of meditation that is known to humanity.[> NEXT POST ] i was reading about Raja Yoga (the Royal Path of Union, a specialized science of meditation from ancient India) and God willing in the next post i would like to post specifically on it (Raja Yoga) to demonstrate the proximity at the level of Haqiqa or Inner Reality between Islamic Philosophy and what Raja Yoga is about.. As-Salatu was Salamu alayka ya Sayyidi ya Rasul Allah. May God's infinite blessings be with the master and teacher of humanity, Prophet Muhammad upon whom the pinnacle of Divine Revelation was graced.(c) Sadiq M. Alam / UCLA...

Whoever prays during the nights in Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. And he who passes Lailat al-Qadr (the Night of Power) in prayer with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven - (Bukhari, Muslim).Every action of the childrens of Adam is given manifold reward, each good deed receiving ten times its like, up to seven hundred times. Allah the Most High said, 'Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will give recompense for it, he leaves off his desires and his food for Me.' for the fasting person there are two times of joy; a time when he breaks his fast and a time of joy when he meets his Lord. (Bukhari)The fast and the Qur'an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: 'O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Esoteric Spiritual Symbolism of Miraj | the mystic ascent of holy Prophet
    2007-08-17 07:58:19
Let us try to understand the spiritual symbolism of Mi'raj – Spiritual Ascension of the Prophet, upon him be boundless bliss and draw inspiration there from:The 'Journey by night' is symbolic of the Inner Journey undertaken in a night meditation, a journey away from the 'Sacred Mosque' (Kabaa - outer Mosque) towards the inner Sacred Mosque (Inner Dome or the Heart).Riding on the Buraq is symbolic to riding on the Nafs (ego or mind, which is in it's base form is animal and an enemy, but in it's higher form - when tamed and transformed through spiritual practice - grows wings and ascends and acts as a vehicle to the Divine); however, the mind through the process of Zikr, Divine Remembrance can only go upto the threshold of the Divine - it has to be dropped at that point. Being guided by Gabriel is the upward pull of the Divine Force - Divine Grace. The experiences that took place until the point of final realization (the point of final ascension) are the thought forms and then ...

ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS OF THE HOLY PROPHET TOWARDS NON-MUSLIMS
    2007-08-02 23:51:00
ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS OF THE HOLY PROPHET TOWARDS NON-MUSLIMSReligious Tradition in the HejazHejaz Peninsula from the north to the south and from the east to the west, has always interacted with different cultural elements and religious traditions throughout history. This region, which stretches from Palestine-Jordan, known as “the golden crescent” in the north, to Mesopotamia has accommodated many traditions from pagan cultures to monotheistic movements. Assyrian-Babylon paganism worshipped the stars and planets, while polytheistic Greek culture, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Manichaeism have all existed in this region. Apart from these religions, many movements that are known as secret religions and which involve esotericism and mysticism have also thrived here. This region was also the place in which many prophets conveyed the faith of monotheism, which is based on the absolute unity of God. Prophets like Abraham, Zachariah, and Jesus invited people to accept God a...

THE PROPHET (PBUH) AS A TEACHER -3-
    2007-07-15 12:50:00
HIS TEACHING METHODSThe most important reason behind the effectiveness of the educational activities carried out by the Prophet (pbuh) was the truth of the content. But, the appropriateness of style in presenting the content was also important. We should pay attention to "whom" and "how" the Prophet taught as well as "what" he taught. He had methods for teaching. His style was not random. We can see the education principles and methods put forward by modern education scholars in the practices of the Prophet. For instance, the following are model principles and methods used by the Prophet: --To identify the learners and organize the content appropriate to their level--To be tolerant to learners--To make them like what was being taught and to avoid their hating it or getting bored--To arouse learners' interest and to show that they need to learn the material--To take the intelligence, spirit, emotions and physical state of learners into consideration and to design the teaching con...

THE PROPHET (PBUH) AS A TEACHER -2-
    2007-07-15 12:42:00
AREAS OF HIS EDUCATIONSince the practices of the Prophet (pbuh) also demonstrate his duty as an educator, there is no difference between theory and practice. The Prophet conveyed the message of Islam which aims at universal "reform" for humanity. The task was difficult, but the Prophet never thought of using compulsion. While delivering the message of Allah, he behaved as described in the Quran. He perceived "tabligh" as a task for teaching and training and he tried to realize the social reform he aimed at by educating people. He started educating people close to him immediately after he was charged with delivering the message and then the circle of people widened day by day. He worked to teach the fundamentals of religion to people individually or as a group in his house or other houses, even in markets. In spite of torture and opposition in the Mecca period, he continued to teach productively. He never gave up on educating people. After emigration to Medina his educational activities...

THE PROPHET (PBUH) AS A TEACHER -1-
    2007-07-15 12:37:00
THE RELATION BETWEEN TABLIGH AND EDUCATIONAccording to Quran, the Prophet (pbuh) is responsible for "tabligh (delivering the message)": "O Messenger. proclaim the (message) which hath been sent to thee from thy Lord. If thou didst not, thou wouldst not have fulfilled and proclaimed His mission. And Allah will defend thee from men (who mean mischief). For Allah guideth not those who reject Faith." (Al-Maida 5/67). "The Messenger.s duty is but to proclaim (the message). But Allah knoweth all that ye reveal and ye conceal" (Al-Maida 5/99).The lexicographical meaning of "tabligh" is to deliver, inform, and spread. As a term, it points to the Prophet's delivering the message to humans exactly as he received it from Allah. This is one of the inalienable qualities of prophets. If the thing to be delivered is information, a message, or news, then teaching is an issue, as well. In fact, some dictionaries define "tabligh" as teaching. This shows the relation between "tabligh" and teaching. "Tab...

AS A HUMAN AND AS A PROPHET (PBUH) -3-
    2007-06-27 13:22:00
HIS IDENTITY AS A HUMAN BEING PERSONALITY AND CHARACTERProphet Muhammad (pbuh) wore smart, clean clothes, he spoke well; he was as he appeared and appeared as he was. He had a generous heart, was open-minded and far-sighted, he was honorable and industrious, working diligently day and night. He gave value to people, was faithful and protected the people whom the Quraishi aristocrats despised and attempted to banish. He did not judge his companions by their social status and considered the virtue of being human enough. He was modest, shy, humane and extremely compassionate. Allah depicts and eternalizes his humane and compassionate identity in the following words: "Now hath come unto you an Messenger from amongst yourselves: it grieves him that ye should perish: ardently anxious is he over you: to the Believers is he most kind and merciful, but if they turn away, Say: "(Allah) sufficeth me" (Al-Tauba, 9/128)."Thou wouldst only, perchance, fret thyself to death, following after them, in ...

AS AHUMAN AND AS A PROPHET (PBUH) -2-
    2007-06-27 13:15:00
THE PROPHETHOOD OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD, HIS RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONVEYING AND HIS TEACHINGSThere was once a respected and trustworthy young man with a noble character who was assigned to convey a word, a word that was difficult to convey, a word which was unique, the like of which could never be uttered by humans; he was startled by an unexpected voice at an unexpected time "And thou hadst not expected that the Book would be sent to thee except as a Mercy from thy Lord: Therefore lend not thou support in any way to those who reject ((Allah)'s Message)" (Al-Qasas, 28/86)."Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message" (Al-Muzzammil, 73/5). "Say: "If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they backed up each other with help and support" (Al-Isra, 17/88). Moreover, the first order given to this illiterate young man is very significant and striking "And thou wast not (able) to recite a Book...

AS A HUMAN AND A PROPHET (PBUH)
    2007-06-27 13:07:00
AS A HUMAN AND A PROPHET (PBUH)Knowing Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is a quintessential to accepting him, feeling closeness towards him and following his example. It is not possible to believe in, to have affection for, or to follow a person without knowing them. The Holy Quran clearly states this issue and asks the non-believers whether they deny the Prophet because they do not know him.Knowing someone is not enough on its own. It is important that the person be known adequately and correctly. Our aim is to understand the human identity of Prophet Muhammad, not those that are connected to the prophethood. His superhuman quality is related to those things that we must accept as part of the faith. Such qualities are beyond the limits of our knowledge and comprehension, and are manifested only by prophets; it is meaningless to talk about demonstrating such qualities. But the Prophet's human identity is that in which the divine revelation becomes concrete and we must understand this identity,...

THE NAMES AND ATTRIBUTES OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD IN DIVAN LITERATURE
    2007-06-19 13:55:00
THE NAMES AND ATTRIBUTES OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD IN DIVAN LITERATUREAsma al-Nabi, which refers to the names and attributes of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), comprises one of the rich genres of our classical literature that is in fact intertwined with religious culture. Other examples of the genre concerning the Prophet include the mawlid, sirah, hilya, mi'raj-nameh, Hijrat al-Nabi (the migration of Prophet Muhammad), shafaat-namah, forty hadiths and a hundred hadiths. Similar to "Asma al-Husna" (the Beautiful Names of Allah), a poetic genre in which the names of Allah are collectively given, there has risen the tradition of gathering together the names of the Prophet in separate works of either prose or poetry, as he is the most beloved human being for both Muslims and Allah the Almighty.Besides faith, the motivation of poets to write about the Names of the Prophet include a particular well known hadith (saying of the Prophet) which states that those believers who read and write the names and a...

    THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH)
    2007-06-18 09:42:00
THE PROPHETMedina, the city of calm and peace, sheds tears for the first time since it became the city of the Prophet. People rush out of the clay houses, crying loudly in the city streets. Crowds of people gather at the sound of Umar's sword cutting through the air, this famous wrestler of the Uqaz fairs, master of horses and weapons. A loud shout echoes in all the streets of Medina: "Muhammad is not dead. I will behead those who claim that he is dead."Crowds cower; all mourning seeks shelter at the sound of this powerful voice.A pleasant scent diffuses through the courtyard of the al-Masjid al-Nabawi from Aisha's room; the door is pushed open and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, the Companion who sheltered in the cave with the Prophet, enters. He shows his respect and falls on the body of Prophet Muhammad, which is covered by a striped cloak. He opens the cloak to kiss the face. A single sentence emits from between his lips, wet with the tears of sadness: "You are just as fragrant after your de...

Secret of the Spiritual Ascension (Miraj) of Prophet
    2007-06-09 03:03:00
According to Muhyiddin Ibn 'Arabi), known as the greatest master (Shaykh al-Akbar) and one of the islamic tradition's most important writers explains:the purpose of spiritual ascension is not to reach God - for He is never apart from us - but simply for Him to show some of His Wonders and Indications. He writes,[God] says, "I only make him (the blessed Master of humanity, the Messeger of God, Muhammad) journey by night in order that he sees the signs, not [to bring him] to Me; because no place can hold Me and the relation of all places to Me is the same. For I am such that [only] 'the heart of My servant, the person of true faith, encompasses Me', so how could he be made to journey to Me while 'I am with him wherever he is'?!"Thus for the saints (enlightened ones), they have spiritual journey in the inter-mediate world during which they directly witness spiritual realities embodied in forms that have become sensible for the imagination; these (sensible images) convey knowledge of ...
