Cunard Introduces Self Guided Art Tour on the Queen Victoria
    2007-10-26 14:28:15
The real Queen Victoria was a virtual collection of firsts. She was the first of the modern day monarchs, having a telephone, riding a train and even playing host to a World’s Fair! She also had the longest reign, highlighted by England’s prevalence in the Industrial Revolution and eventually into a constitutional monarchy. In recognition of her greatness, Cunard engaged a select group of accomplished contemporary British artists to bring style and ambiance to its newest ocean liner, Queen Victoria. The interior collection, from the Grand Lobby to all the restaurants and famous-named rooms, pieces are acknowledged on an 80 minute self-guided digital audio overview, the Queen Victoria Art Tour, which also features video interviews by the artists.

This picture shows her at sea in her first sailing photograph. The object of the sea trials is to identify any issues with performance or equipment before the vessel goes into service. The various trials test the maximum speed achievable and maneuverability to evaluate the ship’s capabilities, putting stress on the major engine components to ensure they work under the most extreme conditions. Queen Victoria Century Plant (Agave victoriae-reginae 'Compacta')
    2007-08-05 18:51:00
Queen Victoria Century PlantAgave victoriae-reginae 'Compacta'(a-GAH-vee) (vik-TOR-ee-ay ree-JIN-ay-ee)Agavaceae (ah-gav-AY-see-ay)What an emotional draining day yesterday was. I still feel bad about the whole thing. I can’t wait to get back into the garden on Monday. There at least I know what to expect and do. I guess that is my little comfort zone.I saw this cute little Agave growing in a pot at Wave Hill. It only gets to 12 inches and is hardy to USDA Zone 7b. There used to be one in the conservatory at work but the person that takes care of the greenhouse watered it to death over the winter. I love the contrast of the green leaves and white stripes. This plant only flowers after many years and then dies. Here are a couple more shots from the Foreigner Concert on their 2007 Concert tour.Mick Jones. Like the Dire Straits song says “Oh yeah, the boy can play.” Shot with my cheesy $12 Star Filter.End shot. Left to right: Jeff Pilson: bass guitar, background vocals, Thom Gimbel:
