    St. Albans, Queens
    2008-02-22 14:52:00
St. Albans is a quiet middle-class neighborhood in eastern Queens, but just beneath lies a level of culture, politics and heritage that not all New York neighborhoods can boast.Once home to some of the greats of jazz and sports – Count Basie, Jackie Robinson, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few – St. Albans is now home to modest working-class families, mostly African Americans and Caribbean Americans. But some residents believe the neighborhood is coming back.

Nervous Queens Watches Jumping Dances in Elizabeth: The Golden Age Movie
    2008-02-19 00:46:21
Spain’s King Philip II (Jordi Molla) is out to conquer England in the The Elizabeth: The Golden Age movie. Anyway & for any reason, be it religious or etc, the war between the two nations is inevitable.Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen) is liked by the queen but loved by her favorite lady, also named Elizabeth (Abbie Cornish). She goes into viewing eccentric entertainment, having Sir Walter Raleigh dance with her favorite lady in a jumping manner. Presumably, she is on her nerves end, threatened by war from Spain.

    Queens Botanical Garden
    2007-09-09 15:08:00
Queens Botanical GardenFlushing, New YorkYesterday I left early and visited the Queens Botanical Garden in Flushing, New York. I wanted to kind of make a clean sweep of the NYC Botanical gardens having already visited the New York Botanical Garden and Wave Hill in the Bronx, Brooklyn Botanical Garden and the Staten Island Botanical Gardens this summer. It wasn’t as much as an adventure as getting to the Staten Island Garden. I drove to the Metro-North Railroad Station in Katonah, New York and got the train to Manhattan. I then bought a Metrocard and took the #7 Subway train to its terminus at Main Street in Flushing, Queens. It is about a 40-minute ride on the Subway and then I walked the eight blocks south on Main Street to the garden. I took the bus back to the station and you may want to consider taking it to the garden. The new Visitor and Administration Building at the Queens Botanical GardenThe garden was nice, smallish compared to the others but it really had a country atmosphe

Male Queens of the Silver Screen
    2007-03-17 16:58:00
We're dedicating this post to male hollywood stars who refuse to come out of the closet. These individuals think they've fooled the general public, and even in some cases have sham relationships (beards). Let's start with mister "ain't it cool" himself John Travolta. For years, gay rumors have swirled about Travolta. But the actor has repeatedly denied them. The talk was squelched when he married actress Kelly Preston (Fag Hag) in 1991 and they had a son, Jett, two years later. Preston, 38, gave birth to their second child, daughter Ella, in 2000. There have been several unsubstantiated reports in news rags (Globe, Enquirer,Sun), but in this case a picture is worth a million words. To the left is John checking the toncils of an unidentified male friend as they get ready to board John's private jet (named "Greased Lightning") and join the "Mile-High Club." When asked to comment on this, John's lawyer Jay Lavely (bottom-feeding slime) simply says, "Anyone who knows John knows it is customary of him to greet his close friends (male lovers) with a kiss." Between that, and his latest choice of playing a drag queen on Broadway in Hairspray,John seems like he's a love tryst away from coming out and letting the general public know about his love of Perrier, Cher's music, the TV show Queer As Folk, and his vast collection of Joan Crawford and Jim Nabors memorobilia.Next, let's move on to Travolta's scientology buddy, Tom Cruise. Let's look at the litigation Tom has started to keep these secrets "in the closet."The Daily Express newspaper — During his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman, the couple endured public speculation about their sex life and rumors that Cruise was gay. In 1998, he sued a British tabloid that alleged that the marriage was a sham designed to cover up his homosexuality.David Ehrenstein - Tom Cruise's lawyers threaten to sue Ehrenstein for his book titled "Open Secret: Gay Hollywood 1928-1998", that discussed Cruise's appeal to both men and wom

A Lunchtime Stroll in Queens Park, Bolton
    2006-09-09 00:59:00
As the weather was so good today I thought I'd take my camera out to take a few photographs in Queens Park, Bolton, which is where I can usually be found wandering around during my lunch hour looking at this amazing space right in the middle of town.I usually approach from the entrance nearest the centre of town which passes through an abundance of Buddleia, these in turn attract a variety of butterflies, one of which was this Comma as well as the usual suspects of Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Painted Lady and Peacock.I could quite happily watch these colourful insects all day but I continue on over a small bridge into the bottom area of the park. The area where I walk is bordered on one side by the River Croal on which many water birds reside, mainly Mallard, Coot and Grey heron On some days, if you're lucky you can see a couple of Kingfishers flying up and down hunting for fish or maybe a Dipper running up and down the river bank.During the spring and summer Brown Trout can eas
