| Gubernatorial Watch: Rankings | | 2008-06-21 00:13:52 | | Democrats enter the cycle with a 28-22 edge in gubernatorial offices. Eleven states hold contests in 2008, three of which will be open seat races.1. Missouri (Open-R) [1]: Some Show Me State Republicans suggested that Matt Blunt's decision not to seek a second term would actually help their chances of holding onto this seat. Blunt was so damaged, the thinking goes, that he could not have won and may have been a drag on Republicans down the ballot. Well, Blunt is gone, but Republican problems remain. Democratic Attorney General Jay Nixon (pictured), who had been running ahead of Blunt, has big leads over both Republican challengers, Congressman Kenny Hulshof and Treasurer Sarah Steelman, according to recent polling. Settling on a candidate should help, but both Hulshof and Steelman are running to the right in preparation for the August 5th primary, which could be a burden in the general election. Everyone thinks it's a mysterious secret. However, it actually isn't all that mysterious at all. In fact, if you do a search for "Google Webmaster Guidelines" they explain what they look for when they add a web site to their search index and rank a web site in the search listings. I'll give you a couple of guidelines so just apply them and pick one. You'll probably end up dropping him a week or two into the season when a free-agent kicker starts to separate himself from the crowd. I do this every year and I always end up with a top-5 kicker anyway. Look at Nick Folk for the Cowboys last year. DO NOT carry more than 1 kicker unless you start more than 1 kicker. Carry a handcuff for your QB or RB or take a shot on some crucial backup players instead of wasting a roster spot on a kicker. Or you can play "Musical Kickers" and just pick up a new one every week based on match ups. That works too.Kickers who play in a dome have added valueKickers who play in ou | | By: Get To The Chopper | | |

| Understanding Why Alexa Rankings Are Important | | 2008-05-07 06:47:42 | | Getting a grasp on all the inside language involved in web publishing can be a challenge. Figuring out what numbers count and what don't for tracking a website's success can seem like an impossibility. Many publishers find it difficult enough to keep up with Google ranking. The sad reality is that this number isn't the only important one. Alexa ranking is also a valuable number to keep up with, especially if earning potential is important.Alexa.com itself is an Amazon.com creation that offers a readout of traffic for some websites. The trick, however, is that it measures based on the amount of users who've paid sites a visit with an Alexa toolbar installed in their own browsers. Alexa ranking is important, but it does have a few flaws. Despite this, a high Alexa ranking can really pay off with advertiser interest.Alexa rank involves the number of people that visit sites with the toolbar installed on their browsers. | How the rankings are done... | | 2008-05-03 12:10:34 | | The rankings for all golf guides rated on this site will be determined by creating an average score for each program based upon how it ranks in each of the ten categories listed. Each category will be scored based upon a 1-10 point scale with 10 being the best. Then, the total score out of 100 will be divided by 10, making 10 the best possible overall score for each program. | Warning: Two Ways of Killing Your Organic Rankings in Google | | 2008-04-30 10:14:00 | |
There is some debate
about how much Google uses the clickthough rate of the organic listings to
affect where you are listed.
However, with two recent examples for our
clients giving demonstrable results, one dramatic and one less so, I certainly
believe that the clickthrough rate is used for determining your position on a
page.
In our dramatic example, a UK based
holiday company gained a Google Local Map result attached to their listing.
Unfortunately it was not their map listing, but some random hotel in the USA. As a
result, they experienced a dramatic slide off of page 1 for the majority of
their search terms over a period of 1 to 2 weeks. As nothing else had changed,
the only explanation for this is that the US
address put UK
based searchers off clicking on their link. (Thanks Google, that error is a
pain to fix).
The second site is one that has good
organic rankings for a competitive phrase, and is on the first page, but does
not seem to be able to move higher. Despit | | By: Sonicatu

| Improve your Search Engines Rankings | | 2008-04-30 05:35:00 | | We'll focus on improving your ranking for the natural search results. Getting in the first few pages of the SERP will ensure that most people will find your content.Traffic volume is the most important parameter when it comes to monetizing your blog (more visitors = more money). A large portion of traffic volume comes from search engines. To monetize efficiently, it's crucial to get your blog contents in the top list of any search engine result pages (SERP). Search Engine Optimization (SEO) helps you to achieve this goal.Photo by cambodia4kidsorg.There are two types of search results:Natural (a.k.a organic).Paid (e.g. sponsored links in Google SERP).Search engines basically need one thing to know where to put your blog on their list - your rank on the keyword(s) used to search. | Announcement: The New Alexa Rankings | | 2008-04-17 12:35:08 | |
Alexa has been a very useful indicator to see how much traffic flows to a website/blog and the level of popularity of it.
However, the major flaw in the system is that it only counts the visits from those who have installed Alexa Toolbar. Which to be honest, even I don't bother installing. Which also means that my own hits to my blog will never be counted.
To somewhat solve this problem as per claimed, Alexa has made a great improvement to change its algorithms, and have taken multiple sources into consideration. (Don't ask me what kind of sources, it wasn't clearly defined.)
Anyhow.

| Getting links from quality sites is the key to creating better Google rankings | | 2008-03-28 15:46:00 | | In the past few years Google has been working hard on making sure that links from low quality sites don't count as much as those from high quality sites and the link marketplace has changed dramatically.Dave Naylor started an interesting discussion on his blog this week about how websites are selling text links disguised as Google Adsense adverts, purely to avoid being spotted as a link seller. This kind of stealthy approach to buying and selling links just shows how far underground the link marketplace has gone recently.

For clarity's sake, the only pieces I added to this body of work is the "Fit the Bill" section, and to further clarify, all of those appear in block quotes. Everything else is sireric's. Enjoy! In the upcoming NFL draft, it's a pretty good bet that the Buffalo Bills will draft a tight end. Incumbent starter Robert Royal, who is known as a solid blocker, is a shoo-in for the 2008 roster (sorry, Nick BensalemPA), but the rest of the depth chart consists of a plethora of good hands/bad blocker types. | How many number one search engine rankings? | | 2008-03-27 04:20:09 | | I was looking at a competitor's site for SEO services
the other day and they made a few boasts in their landing page about
their track record. One of the bullet points said that they had 200
clients which was not too bad. As a comparison, we currently have over
100 campaigns under active management.
But another claim stated that they had achieved "500 number one
rankings" for these clients (an average of 2.5 per client). Well this
didn't seem to many to me - and so I thought I'd review our current
portfolio of campaigns to see what our numbers are.
If we look at all the major and regional search engines that we track
for our current campaigns only, we currently have achieved 3,214 number one rankings (an average of 32+ per client). If we looked at Google alone - we currently have 417 number one rankings (an average of 4+ per client). No too shabby.
If we expand that to top 10 rankings - the number goes to 2,193 in Google and reaches 17,429 if | | By: Sonicatu

| IZEA rankings | | 2008-03-25 09:16:01 | | I have had trouble with my IZEA ranking since I changed to a dot com, initially my IZEA rank was zero, which admittedly is a nice low number (??!!) but not one that was any use to me. I tried re-registering for IZEA rank, but kept getting an error from the URL in the confirmation email.I then had to take the drastic step of completely removing the PPP script from the HTML of the blog (I tried this before but put it back after three days with no change...). This time, after a couple of days, my ranking went meteoric up to beyond 22,000 - not much use to anyone, but at least something was happening. I put the script back in and after a couple more days I am back with a respectable rank again... | Senate Watch: Rankings | | 2008-03-19 00:54:26 | | Our latest rankings paint a rosy picture for Democrats, who find only one of their incumbents on our list of the ten seats most likely to flip hands in 2008. After picking up six seats and winning a thin 51-49 majority in 2006, they appear poised to expand their holdings, but fall short of a filibuster-proof 60-seat advantage.1. Virginia (Open-R) [1]: As a former business executive and governor, Mark Warner (pictured) simply doesn't come across as a legislative branch kind of guy. Widely considered a potential 2008 presidential candidate before he surprisingly put such speculation to rest in October 2006, Warner does little to scuttle the notion that he has ambitions that lie beyond the Senate. A term in the Senate, which seems all but assured at this point, could help fill out the foreign policy portion of his resume for a presidential run in 2012, 2016, or beyond. At this point in 2006, however, another former governor was also prepping for an apparently easy Senate race before a | | By: Political Realm | | |

| How Higher Search Engine Rankings Can Help Your Business | | 2008-01-16 20:16:00 | | Higher search engine rankings: They're supposed to be invaluable to your business. Below, find out what they are, exactly, and how they help.More visibility: Basically, increasing your search engine rankings mean that your site is higher up on the search engine lists than it used to be.When someone gets onto Google or Yahoo! and searches for Eskimo pudding, they get a list of web pages that include those words. The order of the web pages isn't random, however the very first link on the list is the one that Google or Yahoo! (search engine) thinks is the best match for what you're looking for. The second link is supposedly the second best match; the third link is the third best match, and so on.Better rankings don't depend solely on how relevant your page is to the search terms. Search engines also take into account factors such as how popular your site is. A really popular site about Eskimo pudding, the reasoning goes, probably addresses the subject better than its competitors, and ther | | By: All of SEO | | |

| How to Troubleshoot Dropped Search Engine Rankings | | 2008-01-11 15:19:00 | | Are you baffled about a recent drop in your search engine rankings? Do you know where to start and get a handle on what the problem might be and how to remedy it? One option to consider is using search engine forums as a resource. They are full of questions from people who have experienced similar situations and are great resources for an answer or two. But let’s say you really want to get to the bottom of the problem and you want to do it yourself. The following are some of the beginning steps StepForth takes when evaluating dropped rankings.Retrace Your StepsWrite a list of everything that anyone has done to your site within the past 3 weeks. Now look for anything that could have negatively impacted your content, site structure, or the reliability of your URLs. Once you write down the course of events the answer might pop right out at you. Here are some common situational culprits:You just moved your website to a different hosting provider: did your site experience much, if any, downtime during the switch over? Quality hosting companies will allow you to setup your site on their servers before the switch takes place so that downtime is minimized if not removed entirely. If a search engine happened to visit your site while it was down there is a small chance your rankings would be negatively affected but it will only happen for a short period. Once the search engine re-indexes your website everything should be back in order. The structure of your site has permanently changed: did you redirect the traffic from the old URLs to the new URLs using a 301 redirect? If not then you should. A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect which tells any visiting search engine to permanently change its index to reflect the new site structure.Contact your hosting company to check if your server has had any downtime recently. In most cases search engines will not drop your rankings if | | By: The SEO Blog | | |

How sad is it that Florida is only a shell of last years team?Anyway...Here are Mr. Perfect's NCAA Div. I Basketball Rankings:1. North Carolina (what happens if Hansborough goes down?)2. Memphis (very very close 2nd)3. UCLA (beat No. 5 Mich St.)4. Kansas (Darnell Jackson, 67.6%, nuff said)5. Michigan State (Rough early loss to UCLA, but picking it up)6. Washington State (not sold, eassssy early schedule)7. Duke (anyone have someone over 6'8" 250 lbs the devils can borrow?)8. Tennesee (two Top 25 match-ups coming up, Vanderbilt and Mississipi, talk to me then)9. Georgetown (HUGE!)10. Vanderbilt (very strong young team, can prove something with a win over Ten.) If Duke finds a presence down low, they are a Final Four team (Singler? Thomas?). Their small-ball play reminds me a lot of the Phoenix Suns. Georgetown is huge! I'm not sure there are any teams that can match-up in the paint. We will see how good UNC really is as the ACC schedule begins to take shape. | What You Should Know About Alexa Rankings | | 2007-12-29 07:30:15 | | Want to sell your website and get the most money for it? Or maybe you would like to augment your website's income by selling advertising on it? Or you just want to get a good feel for how well your search engine optimization efforts are working. Then you need to know about Alexa Rankings.Like it or not (and many people are highly critical of the rankings), Alexa Rankings are the most frequently used statistic to evaluate a site's popularity and traffic. Unlike Google's PageRank, which only evaluates specific webpage’s, Alexa Traffic Rankings apply to an entire website.Alexa's Traffic Rankings come as a function of what Alexa calls “reach", as well as their calculated "page views". Both statistics come from data supplied by users who have the Alexa Toolbar installed. Alexa indicates that over 10 Million people have downloaded their toolbar. Downloading the Alexa Toolbar has appeal since it includes a popup blocker (long before the major browsers did) as well as a search engine entry box, links to both Amazon and Alexa, and the Alexa information about a site. After the reach (percent of users accessing the site), and page views (number of unique pages accessed by a user during one day), the Traffic Rankings are calculated and Alexa's list of most popular sites is created. The site with the highest ranking is listed as #1, the second highest is #2 and so on.Criticism of the Alexa Toolbar and Alexa Rankings arise from the Toolbar's intrusive, privacy-breaking toolbar and the Alexa Rankings' bias. Indeed, some spyware programs flag the Toolbar as problematic.Bias of the Rankings comes from the fact that the data only comes from users of the Toolbar. While the Toolbar exists for the Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Netscape browsers, and for users of Windows, Macintosh and Linux, some notable Internet users are not -- such as users of the AOL/Netscape browser. It's commonly, but incorrectly, thought that bias occurs because the Toolbar is only available fo | | By: Full Time Income From Home

| Boost Your Site Rankings | | 2007-12-19 06:03:00 | | It is worth cataloguing the basic principles to be enforced to increase website traffic and search engine rankings.Create a site with valuable content, products or services.Place primary and secondary keywords within the first 25 words in your page content and spread them evenly throughout the document.Research and use the right keywords/phrases to attract your target customers.Use your keywords in the right fields and references within your web page. Like Title, META tags, Headers, etc.Keep your site design simple so that your customers can navigate easily between web pages, find what they want and buy products and services.Submit your web pages i.e. every web page and not just the home page, to the most popular search engines and directory services. Hire someone to do so, if required. Be sure this is a manual submission. Do not engage an automated submission service.Keep track of changes in search engine algorithms and processes and accordingly modify your web pages so your search engine ranking remains high. Use online tools and utilities to keep track of how your website is doing.Monitor your competitors and the top ranked websites to see what they are doing right in the way of design, navigation, content, keywords, etc. Use reports and logs from your web hosting company to see where your traffic is coming from. Analyze your visitor location and their incoming sources whether search engines or links from other sites and the keywords they used to find you.Make your customer visit easy and give them plenty of ways to remember you in the form of newsletters, free reports, reduction coupons etc.Demonstrate your industry and product or service expertise by writing and submitting articles for your website or for article banks so you are perceived as an expert in your field. When selling products online, use simple payment and shipment methods to make your customer's experience fast and easy. When not sure, hire professionals. | How Alexa Rankings Affect Your Traffic | | 2007-12-15 07:15:00 | | Alexa is a very powerful tool, used to rank website traffic. The relationship between how Alexa rates your website and how popular your website is, however, isn’t as obvious as it might seem. You need to consider your website’s ranking, links, traffic, and many other factors. Many of these factors are hidden and known only to the most experienced Alexa users.Do other websites link to yours? If you want Alexa’s attention then you should make sure that they do. Don’t worry: usually, all you need to do is ask, as long as you offer a link to their site in return. Remember that your links need to be relevant to your site – don’t take links from an unrelated site, as they won’t be counted. However, if the links are on sites that don’t get much traffic, then Alexa will never hear about them. The fact of the matter is that relevant links are helpful to your visitors. Search engines want to know if a site is worth going to. If it is, they are happy to index it in a higher spot. T | | By: Full Time Income From Home | | |

| Protect ur SE Rankings | | 2007-12-12 11:20:00 | | Your website's ranking on search engines is a vital elementof your overall marketing campaign, and there are ways toimprove your link popularity through legitimate methods.Unfortunately, the Internet is populated by bands ofdishonest webmasters seeking to improve their linkpopularity by faking out search engines. The good news is that search engines have figured this out,and are now on guard for "spam" pages and sites that haveincreased their rankings by artificial methods. When asearch engines tracks down such a site, that site isdemoted in ranking or completely removed from the searchengine's index. The bad news is that some high quality, completelyabove-board sites are being mistaken for these web pagecriminals. Your page may be in danger of being caught up inthe "spam" net and tossed from a search engine's index, even though you have done nothing to deserve such harshtreatment. But there are things you can do - and things youshould be sure NOT to do - which will prevent this kind ofmisperception.Link popularity is mostly based on the quality of sites youare linked to. Google pioneered this criteria for assigningwebsite ranking, and virtually all search engines on theInternet now use it. There are legitimate ways to go aboutincreasing your link popularity, but at the same time, youmust be scrupulously careful about which sites you chooseto link to. Google frequently imposes penalties on sitesthat have linked to other sites solely for the purpose ofartificially boosting their link popularity. They haveactually labeled these links "bad neighborhoods."You can raise a toast to the fact that you cannot bepenalized when a bad neighborhood links to your site;penalty happens only when you are the one sending out thelink to a bad neighborhood. But you must check, anddouble-check, all the links that are active on your linkspage to make sure you haven't linked to a bad neighborhood. The first thing to check out is whether or not the pagesyou have linked to have been penaliz | | By: FREE REAL TRAFFIC TO YOUR BLOG OR WEBSITE | | |

| Recruiting Rankings vs Performance | | 2007-12-08 17:59:00 | | I found an interesting link on the Hive (Georgia Tech Scout.com site) regarding recruiting rankings vs performance on the field. The recruiting rankings are averaged from two major recruiting services with more weight being given to the classes farther back than those of last year due to likelihood of impact on the field. The current team ranking is based on over 20 services rankings, not just the AP, Coaches, or BCS Polls.Of the 20 most overachieving teams, only Wake Forest (13) appeared from the ACC or SEC. Jim Grobe and his staff have done an excellent job coaching which culminated in an ACC title last year. BCS teams Hawaii and Kansas appears at numbers 2 and 8 respectively, while West Virginia checks in at 15.Of the 10 most underachieving teams, 4 are from the ACC (Miami, North Carolina, Duke, NC State). Miami is the most underachieving with a disparity of 64 spots from the avg. recruit rank of 8.38 to an actual field rank of 73 this year. From the SEC, Ole Miss was one of | | By: ACC SEC Blog | | |
