| RAS KASS PREPS INSTITUTIONALIZED VOL. II FOR AUGUST 5th RELEASE ON BABYGRANDE RECORDS | | 2008-06-24 23:49:19 | | One of the most critically acclaimed West Coast emcees of all time, Ras Kass is renowned for his complex lyricism, sharp battle rhymes and witty punchlines.
1996's debut "Soul On Ice" established Ras as one of the front-runners of the post West Coast gangsta rap movement pioneered by seminal acts such as N.W.A. and nationally popularized by modern day icons Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg & more. | | By: MVRemix Urban | | |
| | | Ras Kass released from Capitol/Priority/EMI Records | | 2007-10-16 00:46:00 | | After being signed to the EMI Corporation for over 12 years, West Coast lyricist, Ras Kass is finally released from his contract. But, it is alil too late? With his bout with the law (Ras spent 1 1/2 years behind bars for drunk driving), numerous lack luster mixtapes, pictures of him on the net with his hair slickly relaxed & being knocked out by his arch-nemisis: The Game, can Ras Kass ressurrect his recording career? I dont think so - So much time has past, and Ras' window of opportunity has closed. Todays industry climate for rappers is a bleek one, especially those that are critically acclaimed, but have no major sales history. Nowadays, labels cant afford artists that arent profitable, let alone in their 30's. Which is why Capitol/EMI has decided to let him go, after ump-teen years and a deflated career.Case in point, look at a Joe Budden who was released from his deal with Def Jam this week as well. After selling 500k of his debut 5 years ago, The Carter Foundation found him to be disposable... so what does that say for an artist like Ras Kass? The industry is in a whole 'nother stratosphere since Ras has released an "official" album. The digital age is here and Ras' career was birthed in the analog days of hip-hop... time to sart writing for the new cats lil homie...Read the complete story HERE via HIPHOPDXThe album "Rasassination" is definitely in order right now -

| | Throwback Thurdays - Ras Kass | | 2007-05-17 20:35:00 | | Here's a 2 for 1 gem! "Ghetto Fabulous" & "Back It Up" was Ras Kass trying to escape the backpack for a bigger more mainstream sound & image. I liked "Ghetto Fabulous" minus Mack 10 and I thought "Back It Up" was pretty hot! Ras did move more records with this than his first album, "Soul On Ice" which was critically acclaimed, but sales figures were lame! Ras Kass - "Ghetto Fabulous""Back it Up" was off of the Van Gogh and/or The Golden Child project, depending on which bootleg you cop'd. They included "Home Sweet Home" at the beginning of this as a bit of a diss to Alchemist for doing what he did with the beat... Its all good, peep the vid:Ras Kass - "Back it Up"
