Intelligent Scene Recognition is not that intelligent…
    2008-08-21 22:03:00
Some digital cameras claim to have a feature called intelligent face recognition and intelligent scene recognition, wherein they automatically identify the primary object you’re trying to shoot and give extra significance to that object and less focus to rest of the objects around. Recently I realized that this “intelligent scene recognition” is not intelligent enough. There were some papayas outside the window and I made an attempt to photograph the same. In the first shot, as you see below, the intelligent scene recognizer decided that it is the window grill that I am trying to shoot and subsequently focused on the window grill, while blurring the papayas in the background.I do not have clear idea how the image sensing and subsequent decisions are processed by the camera software. Probably whatever first layer of obstacle it encounters is being considered as object of importance.Anyway, after manual intervention I was able to make the camera focus on the right object and ignore ...

SimpleOCR: Free Optical Character Recognition Program
    2008-05-25 04:32:26
Recently, my friend who also happens to be my younger sister’s friend, Azizah wanted me to do some typing work for her. She gave me about 10 lists of manually written names & addresses to type out in WORD. It takes me about 3 to 4 hours to finish the 212 names & addresses. Beforehand, to make my work easier, I went looking for a OCR (Optical Character Recognition) computer program online that could read scanned documents. I found some which are SimpleOCR (http://www.simpleocr.com/) & TextScan (http://www.getfreesofts.com/soft/463/23566/OCRTextScan_2_Word.html). SimpleOCR is a free program while you must pay to be able to fully use TextScan. Being the cheapskate that I am, I chose & downloaded SimpleOCR.Below are the Scanned Document & Results screen shots of a scanned document using SimpleOCR:Scanned DocumentResults Screen ShotI did not expect the name & address list to be actually had written stuff. Although the program includes a 14 day trial of hand writing...

Turkey has been using every platform for the international recognition of northern Cyprus
    2008-03-22 11:25:00
The trade office, registered as a private company, will most probably open in April in Tel Aviv immediately after the Turkish Cypriot Foreign Ministry appoints a diplomat, according to the Turkish official. He underlined that Israeli investors were already doing business in northern Cyprus especially in the real estate sector and the trade office would further contribute to tourism and trade ties between Israel and northern Cyprus. Israel is not banning the possibility of having a business relationship with northern Cyprus, said the Israeli diplomat. But he emphasized that there was no official Israeli involvement in the establishment of the trade office and that it would be like those opened in other countries. ...

    Recognition in the Mainstream Media?
    2007-06-12 16:59:32
This article originally posted on CBS Marketwatch clearly points out what is going on psychologically in the investment markets and across America generally (even globally) at the current juncture. The great question is, what will take place when the full “third wave recognition” comes about? With a lot of built up complacency and plenty of air to be let out, the combination of bubbles we are currently witnessing (housing, mortgage, bond, stock, M&A, LBO, derivatives, belief in the efficacy of the state, etc.) are all due to implode at some point in the relatively near future. This implosion will be accompanied by a variety of events that will test the mettle of individuals everywhere. The more you prepare yourself for “different” times, the better off you will be. Complacency destroys. Click here to read the mainstream start to recognize....

Revenue Recognition – It Affects Non-Profits Too
    2007-05-25 15:25:25
Perhaps, one of the big accounting issues that’s gotten more attention during the past decade has been revenue recognition. When do companies get to recognize the revenue that they earn? In many businesses, it can be fairly straightforward – a product is shipped, terms are FOB shipping point and revenue is earned right away. In other businesses, such as where there’s licensing revenue that can cover one to multiple years, revenues need to be deferred and allocated to the periods where the revenue is earned. Revenue recognition can hit the nonprofit world too. In some cases, it might be pretty straightforward. Donations are received and that represents contribution revenue to the nonprofit. But just like in the regular businesses, there can be other situations that demand different treatment and attention. One example is at our church. Towards the end of the year, some people will make donations intended for their entire contribution for the next year. By paying it upfront...

    Judy Larson's recognition art
    2006-12-10 19:39:00
Take a look at this picture. Do you see one, two, three or maybe even four bears? *Hint: Pay attention on the branches. Of ficially there are 3 bears, but I have found fourth. In the second picture called "Elusive", Larson also created an illusion of animal hidden in the tree. Take a look at the bole - can you see a hidden wolf? "Like so many aspects of nature, Intent has several different...

Face Recognition, Emotions And Why I Will Be The Next Jackie Chan
    2006-11-07 10:42:00
Face Recognition, Emotions And Why I Will Be The Next Jackie Chan Dynamic face recognition may be one of the last frontiers for quantifying why some of our simplest brain functions have difficulty being matched by computers. As a kid, when computers were more basic, it was easy to see the differences between my brain and the power of a computer. When I played baseball I knew the instant...
