| Bills' O remains a question mark despite strides | | 2008-08-22 12:41:35 | | After a strong performance in a pre-season win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Buffalo Bills' offense appears to be in the midst of a stunted growth spurt thanks to some unfortunate circumstances. With several key players missing for the team's third pre-season game - a Sunday night affair in Indianapolis - Buffalo's offense may be about to take a step backwards after a strong step forward in the win over Pittsburgh. Three areas specifically are worrisome:
Edwards. Starting quarterback Trent Edwards did not practice today and hasn't since his injury. The Bills declared him OUT for the Colts game earlier today. Of course, this would have been a great opportunity for him and the offense to take another step forward. Jauron has said the starters may play into the second half, which would have been great for Edwards. Now, he may take a step back from last week's performance, which worries me. Who knows how much the starters will play against the ... | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

| When All Else Falls, A Claddagh Remains | | 2008-07-12 18:54:00 | | ט' תמוז התשס"חFaunus 11An interesting snippet from a long series of interwoven dreams this shabbat morning - I was facing two skyscrapers. My vision was able to penetrate the concrete and steel of the buildings to see inside each of them.On the top floors of the skyscraper to my left was a woman. On the top floors of the skyscraper to my right was a man. They were both on the same "level" of their particular skyscraper. My impression was that the man and woman were husband and wife, but that neither could reach the other because each was trapped in some way within the structure of their respective skyscraper. They were not yet together, though they were "married" spiritually. All of a sudden, the skycrapers started to break apart as if in an earthquake. The left arm of the woman outstretched through the crumbling concrete and steel outer wall toward the place of her husband, and the husband outstretched his right arm toward the place of his wife through the crumbling concrete ... | | By: Walking On Fire | | |

ESSEX COUNTY — The man who is believed to have shot and killed the estranged mother of his two children at a YMCA in Montclair Thursday remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous, Essex County Prosecutor Paula T. Dow said today.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

| | Canada's housing market remains stable | | 2008-04-04 16:21:00 | | Canada's real estate market stands on stable footing. On average, healthy year-over-year house price gains were recorded during the first three months of 2008. While more modest price increases were observed when compared to previous quarters, the solid appreciations noted in the first quarter are largely due to the shared effects of resilient local economies, high immigration levels, and relatively low interest rates - all leading to enduring buyer demand, according to a House Price Survey report released today by Royal LePage Real Estate Services. While almost all markets surveyed experienced price increases, it was the smaller cities, with relatively affordable housing and strong economies based on resource industries that emerged with the most significant gains. Thriving Saskatoon saw appreciation as high as 66 per cent, while areas in Newfoundland posted increases above 20 per cent for the first time since Royal LePage started tracking house prices.

| | Trent Edwards Remains Starting QB in Buffalo | | 2007-10-24 00:04:36 | | Edwards to make first road start (BuffaloBills.com) After three starts and two wins, it was highly unlikely that Trent Edwards would be benched. That notion turned out to be extremely true, as the Bills' official site is reporting that Edwards will start at the Jets this coming Sunday. The rookie signal-caller, who this past Sunday picked up the biggest win of his career against a stellar Ravens defense, will make his first career road start this weekend. This story is breaking in the same fashion as it did last Tuesday: the decision has been made, but we must still wait until tomorrow's media address by Dick Jauron to hear anything about the finality of this decision. Is J.P. Losman still hobbled by his sprained knee? Is it yet again a one-week decision, or have the coaches decided to move forward on a permanent basis with this decision? I've said it before, and it bears repeating as often as it takes to see results: as long as this charade continues on a weekly basis, it will hurt this team in the long run. More importantly, it will hurt Edwards' development - if he performs poorly and he's pulled in favor of Losman, we're simply seeing a redux of exactly what happened to Losman here in Buffalo. Look how well that has turned out for Losman, whose predicament in Buffalo has been unfair essentially from Day One. So pay attention to Dick Jauron's comments tomorrow as he addresses the media about the decision. It's time for him to man up and declare a permanent starter. If he is non-committal about anything beyond the Jets game, you have my permission to yell and scream all you like in this thread - I'll probably be right there with you. Update [2007-10-23 19:18:48 by Brian Galliford]: Straight from Jauron's mouth (linked in the article above): "We are naming Trent Edwards as our starting quarterback. I have spoken with both Trent and J.P. Losman and want to get the word out to our fans." Hmm... is this, perhaps, what we've been waiting for? A permanent starter at the position? Feel free to speculate for now; we'll (hopefully) know officially tomorrow. Stay tuned...... | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

| | | The Rotation Remains The Same | | 2007-10-15 12:31:00 | | Terry Francona, the manager of the Boston Red Sox, will not tinker with his rotation and move up Josh Beckett's start to game 4 on Wednesday, which would be 3 days rest. That move would enable Josh to pitch game 7 on his normal 4 days rest. Even if the Sox are down 3 games to 1, he is sticking with the 4 man rotation. I agree with his decision. He said this...."I think sometimes you can get short-sighted," Francona said. "If you lose a couple games everybody wants you to immediately change what you've set up. The reason we set it up like this is because we think it gives us the best chance to win a series. It's also not just one guy it affects. It affects three guys in the rotation."Peter here. Remember, there is an off day on Wednesday in Ohio between games 4 and 5. They play Monday and Tuesday, games 3 and 4, with that day off Wednesday, and then play the third and final game in Cleveland, game 5, on Thursday. Friday is a travel day, and the final two contests, if needed, will be at Fenway Park on Saturday and Sunday. Having Beckett pitch on Thursday, on 5 days rest, will also allow Schill, who looks like he needs it, and Daisuke extra rest between starts. But we all have to hope that Wakes can be effective. We also must hope for the same exact thing from Daisuke Matsuzaka today. So if the series goes 7 games, Beckett, Schill and Daisuke will pitch twice and Wakes will go one, tomorrow. I agree with Tito's strategy. Now the players, our players, have to deliver. Because it looks like Colorado is "that team," for they're running away with the NLCS, using good hitting and superior pitching to take the first 3 from a good Arizona team. They will be tough to beat in the World Series, that's for sure.Todays opposing pitcher will be Jake Westbrook, who is eminently beatable. We need Daisuke to pitch 7 good innings, giving up 3 or less runs. The tired bullpen can take care of the last 2 innings, and do it well. No more 5 plus hour games, though. PLEASE!Click on the title of this post for the Herald's Tony Massarotti's article about the Cleveland-Boston series so far. It's called "PUT UP OR SHUT UP TIME." Truer words have never been spoken. Have a great Monday, and as always, GO SOX!!... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Italian property market remains "steady" | | 2007-09-01 23:24:00 | | According to Annie Temple, managing director of overseas estate agent medpropertyshop.com, the Italian government deliberately limits property construction in order to keep the market "steady" and ensure that it does not become "overrun".Consequently, getting permission to build a house is "very, very hard" in Italy, while even slight alterations to homes in areas like Tuscany are usually not allowed because "you can't change the outside of old properties".Ms Temple stated: "Italy's a steady country; it's not a boom and bust country.

| | Roster Moves a Plenty - Roster Remains In Flux | | 2007-07-29 17:37:34 | | The Denver Broncos on Sunday signed LB Wesly Mallard and DE Kenny Peterson, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. As per club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The club also placed DE Carlos Hall on its reserve/did not report list and waived LB Eddie Moore after he failed his physical. Moore will revert to the Broncos' injured reserve list should he clear waivers. Mallard (6-foot-1, 230 pounds) is in his sixth NFL season and joins the Broncos after playing for Tampa Bay (2005-06), New England (2005) and the New York Giants (2002-04). | | | Mini remains as the top used car performer says Lex | | 2007-07-21 01:07:18 | |
Lex has published its top 20 used cars list which reveals the models that are going to be worth the most in the second hand market.
In 2007 not surprisingly those new models that are in current short supply have the best future residual value.
Top of the used car pile is the MINI, continuing where it left off in 2006. Lex reckons that Cowley’s finest will be worth 54% of its original cost new price based on a typical three year/60,000 mile contract.
In the second and third place are the stylish TT and A5, which together with the A3, Q7 and Cabriolet put more Audis in the Lex list than any other car maker.
Surprisingly the Lex list shows the anti-4×4 lobby has not hit residual value predictions, with no less than seven in the top 20, including the new Land Rover Freelander, Honda CRV and Mercedes M Class.
Bread and butter fleet cars have struggled to get anywhere near the top 20, but the nearest are the Audi A3 (7th) and the BMW 3 series (18th) which between them enjoy strong f... | | By: Car O Focus

"They are protecting the President rather than protecting our troops. They are denying us an up or down – yes or no – vote on the most important issue our country faces."The Reed-Levin amendment to the Department of Defense (DoD) Authorization Bill requires George W. | | Mattress Standards in Canada remains the same | | 2007-07-01 19:48:17 | | New mattress standards will go in effect today, July 1st, in the USA. Will neighboring Canada follow suit? Exporters from that area are complying with the current USA laws but locally, the move to amend it remains unchanged:
As a U.S. deadline for tougher mattress flammability standards nears, Canadian officials say they have no immediate plans to introduce similar safety regulations. “There’s nothing that’s been identified that shows that there’s a particular concern in this area,” said Helen Ptasznik, a Health Canada product safety manager. “If a concern is identified through fire officials or through the consultation process then we’ll probably start down that road,” she said. The new U.S. standards, which must be applied to new mattresses as of July 1, aims to scale back how quickly mattress fires spread when started by open-flame sources including candles and lighters. “The agency really estimates that it will save more than 27... | | By: Mattresszine

| | Issues Continue For Vick as Report Says Dog Remains Found | | 2007-06-09 00:52:03 | | Â
It does not look good right now for Falcons QB Michael Vick, as ESPN Radio is reporting that some three dozen dog carcasses were found during a search on Thursday on Vick’s property in Surry, Virgina. Also, now not one, but two investigations are underway to try and get to the bottom to see if dogfighting occurred or not on the property. First there is an investigation by federal authorities, and another investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Federal Authorities were on the grounds looking for what they believe was evidence that could come back to haunt Vick, while at the same time the U.S. Attorney’s Office has begun looking into the matter. On another note, Vick scratched an upcoming football camp that was to be held on June 30th till July 3rd. The website for the camp stated it was canned due to “scheduling issues.”
Meanwhile, the cousin of Vick, Davon Boddie, the person that was at the home of Vick in Virgina when the property was searched, ha... | | By: NFL GridIron Gab
| | | Vanderjagt Remains a Kicker Without a Team | | 2007-05-16 22:13:09 | | A long time ago, on a football field far, far away, there was a great kicker that was basically automatic. He was loved by fans of a team with a horseshoe everywhere, and when he trotted on a field, you knew that the kick would be good. Which is why this Sunday should have been no different. Sure his team was losing 21-18 in this divisional playoff tussle, but the game was at home, and this kicker never missed at home. He would make the 46-yard kick, send the game into OT, then eventually, his team would give him a shot to win it. Then something strange happened. After pointing over at the other teams bench after they called a timeout to “ice” him, he game-tying kick did something he never thought it would do. Sail wide right. The great kicker was never heard from again.
Okay, that story is not 100 percent true, but you get the point. The story is about former Colts and now unemployed NFL kicker Mike Vanderjagt, who today is still making zero money as he s... | | By: NFL GridIron Gab
