| Ponder This… Six-Pack #41: Constitutional Republic? | | 2008-07-31 11:37:31 | | 1. In this day-and-age, in the United States of America, I often question whether we will restore our Limited Constitutional Republic or continue to descend into the depths of oligarchic rule and despotic imperial aspiration. News flies fast and heavy, at times utterly disgraceful and at times encouraging. The people remained silent for [...] | | By: Ponder This | | |

| Knights of the Old Republic MMO Now Official | | 2008-07-21 13:56:09 | | Long rumored but never confirmed, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has publicly declared that a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic MMO is in the works. Speaking to Portfolio, Riccitiello explained: "We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development, and the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it." When asked to confirm whether the game in question was indeed an online version of Knights of the Old Republic, Riccitiello answered: "Yes." Knights of the Old Republic, which has so far covered two games, is an RPG series set in the Star Wars universe 4,000 years before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The player takes on the role of a Jedi Knight, either following the light or dark sides of the Force. Image | | By: Online Games | | |

| Rock & Republic Designer Denim | | 2008-06-19 07:25:15 | | Rock & Republic is an American jeans brand founded by fashion mogul Michael Ball in 2002. Prior to starting the company, Ball was an avid cyclist who gained design experience by creating his cycling team's uniforms. Michael felt his girlfriend's jeans didn't properly flatter her figure. "They didn't hug her curves. They were tight where they should have been eased, and gapped where they should have been tight." So, he decided to design a pair of jeans for her. Everywhere the couple went, people asked who designed the jeans.'Kasandra' Bootcut Stretch Jeans (Gloss Icon)Shades of green create the slanted monogrammed Rs that brand the back pockets of clean, dark-blue stretch jeans in a flattering bootcut silhouette.• Grievance Manuel is cotton/polyester, all other colors are cotton/Lycra® spandex.• Approx. rise: front 8"; back 13"• Approx. inseam: 36"• Made in the USA.$240One of the hottest names in designer denim in recent years, Rock & Republic is now owned by Andrea Bernhol | | By: Designing Divas Handcrafted Jewelry Independent De | | |

| Happy Tax Freedom Day Czech Republic | | 2008-06-05 23:00:00 | | To Americans who complain about high taxes in the U.S. I say, "it can always be worse." While American taxpayers celebrated Tax Freedom Day this year on April 23rd, our friends at the Liberal Institute in Prague have announced that Tax Freedom Day will arrive on June 7th in the Czech Republic. http://www.praguemonitor.com/en/351/czech_national_news/23770/ For those keeping score at home, this means that Czech citizens will have worked 158 days into the year to pay all of their taxes, 3 days earlier than last year. By contrast, U.S. citizens worked 123 days into 2008 to pay all of their tax bills.According to LI, Czech citizens also worked nearly a month longer than their neighbors in the Slovak Republic, who celebrated Tax Freedom Day on May 11.The concept of Tax Freedom Day was originated by Florida businessman Dallas Hostetler in 1948. [At that time, the Tax Foundation published a similar, but less catchy, concept called "The Tax Bite in the Eight Hour Day"]. When | | By: Tax Policy Blog | | |

| Roman Republic | | 2008-05-27 09:27:00 | | The Roman Republic (From res publica: "public matter") The Roman Republic was the phase of the ancient Roman civilization characterized by a republican form of government. The republican period began with the overthrow of the Monarchy and the establishment of a new government headed by Lucius Junius Brutus and Lucius Tarquinius Collatinus, who became the first consuls in c. 509 BC. The Republic lasted over 450 years until its subversion, through a series of civil wars, into the Principate form of government and the Imperial period. The precise event which signaled the transition of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire is a matter of interpretation. Historians have variously proposed the appointment of Julius Caesar as perpetual dictator (44 BC), the Battle of Actium (2 September 31 BC), and the Roman Senate's grant of Octavian's extraordinary powers under the first settlement (January 16, 27 BC), as candidates for the defining pivotal event. | Rome: The Crisis of the Republic | | 2008-05-26 15:20:00 | | The Crisis of the RepublicRome had begun as a small city-state. It's constitution, its government, its social structure, and its moral values were those of a small, mainly agrarian state. All of these, the constitution, government, social structure, and values, adapted well to the governing of Italy. The Empire, however, which Rome had stumbled into by accident, provoked a profound crisis in Roman society, government, and morals. In particular, the Second Punic War created vast disparities in wealth. Up until the Second Punic War, the plebeians were farmers, craftsmen, or laborers. They would farm their own land that, even though it was small, was still their property. As laborers or craftsmen, they worked for decent wages (or the equivalent of wages). However, Hannibal had razed the countryside; while the wealth sat secure within the walls of Rome, thousands of people had their farmlands and houses destroyed. With no land they had no work and so began to flood the cities. The wealthy | | By: Stories & Straight Thoughts | | |

| Okor (Czech Republic) | | 2008-01-07 05:49:19 | | Okor (pronounced "Oh-kozh") is about 30-45 minutes from Prague by car. I found it particularly remarkable that it was built not on a high, defensive area - like most castles - but on a small hill that barely rises from a small valley surrounded by farmland. This from a Czech Castles blog:"The Okor village is first mentioned in 1228 as a property of St George Monastery in Prague Castle (klášter sv. Jiří na Pražském hradě). A Gothic castle was built here in 1359 by a wealthy burgher of Prague's Old Town Frantisek Rokycansky, what was quite unusual in those times, when most castles were built by noblemen."Links:Short Video Tour (from Prague.tv)Hotel OkorOkor Open-Air Music Festival | | By: Castles & Ruins in former Czechoslovakia | | |

| rock and republic | | 2007-12-28 20:38:00 | | I don't have a favorite fashion designer or brand, but I always find something interesting about each designer, in fact, I love Valentino's dresses, Versace's colors, Dior's perfumes, St. John's knits, Blumarine's tops, Missoni's patterns, etc... you get the idea. But every so often comes a brand that captures me completely, and I fall in love with their whole collection. Right now that brand is Rock & Republic.Their focal point is their denim line, and I'm loving the slim (but not too slim) fit of these jeans. And even though I've never done one whole piece of leopard print, I think I would totally wear this dress. And it looks like I'm covered for work clothes too! Rocking suit!!!But for some strange reason, this is my favorite look (I don't know... I don't even wear purple!)I know there is A LOT going on, but I can't help it, I like it! Of course, this is something that I would wear out to a club or to a concert, but I would definitely wear the shirt alone more often than that. Now on to finding a way to be able to afford any of it.... | | By: NY SPENDER | | |

| Song of the Week: Apologize by Timbaland ft. One Republic | | 2007-10-06 12:48:25 | | The photo in this entry is Precious Moment. Photographed and edited by me, Lynda Walldez.
This week I am featuring a song I instantly fell in love with. I first heard it not too long ago. Although I had no idea who it was by until I found it online, I was glad I did. Now I can feature it here. :D
I enjoy this song mostly for its vocals. Although I'm changing it up a bit by giving you a video instead of just a player, I think its worth the watch. Not even the video shows the face of the singer, but he has a phenomenal voice. I know this because I have also listened to the original version that doesn't have Timbaland in it. Just One Replubic singing his heart out.
The beat of this song is great, and the way the melodies transition with the voice compliments it well. This is one of those sort of sad, sort of rythmic, very powerful songs. If not the only one, he he. I love it.
Without further ado, Apologize by Timbaland ft. One Republic:

| Italian firms find investing in the Czech Republic attractive | | 2007-09-09 21:01:00 | | Italy is not one of the major countries when it comes to foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow to the Czech Republic. Yet, the last three years saw top financial names such as banking group UniCredit or insurer Assicurazioni Generali taking more steps in the Czech financial market, attracted by profitability above the Western European average. Backing top names, a large number of small firms active in sectors such as real estate, food or fashion carry Italian labels and try to adapt to the Czech investment climate. While these areas offer some room for development, experts say that a large inflow of Italian investments cannot be expected because Italian firms are cost-sensitive and the pressure to reduce costs stimulates them to target Eastern European and Asian countries such as China.
