Everyone is Basically Cooperating with Me Right Now and I'm Not Really Sure how to Respond
    2008-05-10 14:29:10
Tony cleaned his room, alone, without help this morning, and I only mentioned it once. This is the first time he has done this without extreme opposition and he is 13.Dominyk and Wilson cleaned their room when I only asked them once. My brother agreed to send my parents some money. I hardly ever talk to him, but my Mom finally retired at age 78, and they are needing money, but not going to ask for it. We’re sending some, and I thought my brothers should too. I caught him online this morning and he was very cooperative.I expect the kids to be up by 10 on Saturdays, otherwise it messes up their sleep schedule and we have really bad Sundays. I asked Salinda to get up even though she had been awake (friend spending the night) talking until 3:30 a.m. She got up.I have been to the YMCA and matched 2 loads of socks this morning, and am now sitting at my desk, beginning to clean my office. I’m even cooperating with myself.Gas and food prices are killing us, so I came up with an alt

Red Sox Respond to Hank's Comments
    2008-03-01 12:20:00
From The Boston Globe:Red Sox owner John Henry, responding by e-mail to Steinbrenner's comment, wrote: "A wise man once said, 'Don't poke the bear!' "And Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino - no stranger to pie tossing with the Yankees - cackled when he heard the statement."I don't deny there are Yankee fans everywhere," said Lucchino. "But it's blind of him not to see the phenomenon that is Red Sox Nation. I expect he will become more aware of the passion and breadth of Red Sox Nation as lon

How to Respond to a Supercilious Christian
    2008-02-07 16:23:51
Kelly O'Connor Feb. 7, 2008 Not all Christians are supercilious, of course. Many are content to live and let live, and some even grant that science (despite its lack of supernatural entities) does some good. But Christianity as an organized, evangelizing movement has been on the offensive lately. Witness the new wave of evangelicals and their leaders such as Rick Warren, Lee Strobel, and William Lane Craig with their aggressive stance against scientific materialism and their bestselling books attempting to refute science. So, assuming you're an atheist, what do you say to the theist who asks, "You don't (chuckle) believe in a god (snicker)?" Anybody familiar with the original article will see that the preceding paragraph is the same paragraph as the opening to "How to Respond to a Supercilious Atheist" by Alan Roebuck. By changing a few words, the same attack can be launched right back at him, and the rest of the article isn't much better. I

Victims respond to Sacramento Bee's pre-emptive attack on basic human rights
    2007-12-04 08:56:00
[UPDATED]In this article in the “Sacramento Bee”, a former US Ambassador to Burundi, Robert Krueger, urges that Burundi’s war criminals be awarded immunity from prosecution. Comments critical of this view have been posted in response, one of which has now been published. We reproduce it below:My sister Charlotte Wilson was murdered in Burundi on December 28th 2000, with her fiancé Richard Ndereyimana and 19 others, including a number of children. The killers were Hutu-extremists seeking “retribution” for the atrocities of the Tutsi-dominated army - and seeking, of course, to advance their own power. The families of the dead, and the survivors, want those responsible to be prosecuted as war criminals, fairly and impartially under international standards. We want this because we want action to deter future killings and prevent others from suffering as we have; a TRC alone simply will not work. To characterise this as a desire for “retributive justice” is a cruel form of bullying, which seeks to create a moral equivalence between our cherished hope of justice and the killers' twisted desire for revenge. We want justice, not vengeance, and it is our basic human right under international law. Amnesty and Human Rights Watch support us. Please don't deny us our rights, Mr. KruegerTake action - Fax your MP!Take action - sign the Gatumba petitionBurundi, human rights, Current Affairs, Politics, Africa
