| Riding the Wave of Petrol Price Increases | | 2008-06-04 20:51:38 | | Labuan actually experienced a jam!!! And it’s on a non-holiday too!!! Shock!!! Horror!!! Terror!!! Why? Simply because the dwellers of Labuan Island were scrambling their cars to the petrol kiosks for re-fills. A rise of 0.78 cents or 40 % from RM 1.92 a liter for petrol is a MASSIVE increase (especially when the previous price hikes were only at the maximum of 30 cents). Well, I can’t say it was a surprise as around the world petrol prices were shooting up faster than New Year’s fireworks, and Malaysian petrol prices were kept at the region of RM 1.92 a liter for most of the time due to the infamous petrol subsidies. But as the government kept crying like a baby that they can’t take it no more with the subsidies (the Treasury claims that it had cost the government RM 45 billion alone this year), the price hike was bound to happen. It was only a matter of when, and by how much. But things could get a lot worse. The word from our Government is that they intend to bring fuel price | | By: Random Rabbit Holes Into My Mind | | |

Gloves can be purchased at the centre for S$1. After buying one pair, I found the quality of the gloves to be quite bad. Similar to durian gloves. For the first lesson, there is an orientation 1 hour before commencement of lesson. I was accompanied by Emmaneul, an interesting friend that I got to befriend. | How to get 100 miles per gallon riding an off-road motorcycle | | 2008-02-25 17:56:51 | | We love getting off the beaten path, whether that means hiking, mountain biking, rafting, kayaking or dirtbiking. Off-road motorcycles, though, are often horrible polluters which guzzle gas at an alarming rate. There are some companies creating electric dirtbikes, but they're still rather expensive. One possible solution to this problem would be to consider a used Honda Trail 90. Honda made these bikes available in the U.S. for many years, and some of our readers undoubtedly have memories of riding them as kids. The same fun you had back then can still be found today, and here's a story to prove that point. According to the article, the Trail 90 was able to make it up the mountains of California and returned a stellar 100 miles per gallon along the way. Of course, there is more to being green than just sipping gas. If you're concerned with emissions, we would recommend looking for something newer that's EPA-approved for the road. Interestingly, though, many manufacturers use the same | | By: Auto News: Car Reviews, Car News, Car Shows

| Basic Rules and Tips When Riding a Bicycle | | 2008-02-18 09:30:00 | | Riding a bicycle is fun, but there's rule to follow, foryour own good. - photo by kamshotsUse bicycle suitable with your body size. Do not ride a bike that is too big or too small for your body.Always follow the road rules and signboards.Do not compete or race.Use bikeway (if there is any) to avoid you from being squeezed by large vehicle or trapped in a busy road.Practice wearing safety helmet that match with head size and tied it neatly.Use the right hand signals. To change route, see to the left and right first. Make sure the route you want to enter is clear and again see left and right once more before changing your route.Make sure to always hold the handle and your feet always stay on the pedal when riding the bike. Put both feet on the ground when in stop.Do not ride precariously as lifting one wheel (doing a wheelie, or other cool stunts), too fast or raising hand without any reason.

| Your stocks: Riding out a recession | | 2008-01-16 10:28:00 | | The outlook isn't as bad as many investors fear, and there are ways to keep your investing plan on track. Money Magazine's Michael Sivy has a plan for defensive investing.By Michael Sivy, Money Magazine editor at largeJanuary 16 2008: 10:56 AM ESTNEW YORK (Money) -- At this point, the conventional wisdom is that the U.S. economy entered a recession in December, even though the actual evidence that a downturn has begun is quite limited. We won't really have crucial data until preliminary fourth-quarter GDP growth is reported later this month. It's likely, though, that the U.S. economy will be weak through the first half of 2008 - and possibly for most of the year.So the natural question is: How much further do stocks have to fall? Are the potential losses so big that investors should be making lots of changes to their portfolios? It's certainly sensible to be somewhat defensive, whether there's a full-fledged recession or simply a slowdown.Diversification is less important in a bull market when a rising tide lifts nearly all boats. But when stocks are falling, some groups really get pummeled while others hold up surprisingly well. Right now, the worst performers are companies in industries that depend on financing. That includes not only banks, but also stocks in the housing sector and makers of cars and other big-ticket consumer items. But assuming you're well-diversified, there's a good case for staying the course and not selling a lot of stocks or massively reshuffling your holdings. If anything, you should be tracking stocks that you might want to buy later this year at bargain prices. Here's the basic case for just hunkering down to ride out the current slowdown: Most recessions are fairly short Of the 10 recessions since World War II, only two lasted more than a year. Those two - in the mid-1970s and the early '80s - were crushing and did merit substantial portfolio readjustments. But more often, recessions only disrupt investment strategies temporarily. | | By: How to be Rich, Happy and Free from Scams | | |

| Four Tips for Riding a Seesaw Market | | 2007-09-02 10:23:00 | | by Laura RowleyMy neck hurts. According to the Mayo Clinic's web site, whiplash occurs "when the head is jerked forward and back, stretching the soft tissues of the neck beyond their limits."Lately, I find that an involuntary neck-snapping occurs every time I walk past a television, computer screen, or radio, and catch the latest stock market update. This is typically followed by an ill-advised trip to the Internet to survey my investment accounts -- sagging like cheap hosiery bunched at the ankles. Who knew stocks and stockings could have so much in common? If this market doesn't give you whiplash, stop reading. But if a 300-point drop in the Dow evokes the sensation of digesting bad oysters, here are a few tips to ease your market-induced stress.Be True to Your Goals• Investing is about meeting life goals, so make sure your allocation reflects your aspirations.I hate when people say that investing in the stock market is gambling. | Easy riding on a train to Tuscany | | 2007-08-19 00:40:00 | | I took the train north from Rome this week to spend a little time in some hillside villages in southern Tuscany. . I would enjoy having the freedom of a car here, to do the remote villages and countryside justice. But I truly enjoy the chance to sit on a train and watch the landscape, with little effort on my part beyond trying to stay awake. I always seem to pop back to reality before my stop, however, and haven't missed one yet. Perhaps I am being watched over by the animus of some ancient Etruscan who once roamed these hills and valleys. That's a comforting thought.

“The little guy does not fall down, even when he comes to a complete stop. And, it’s not training wheels keeping him up, but a gyro sensor located underneath his seat that detects tiny movements to calculate the slanting angle of the body. Once the angle is figured out, a large rotating disc in the robot’s chest generates force to correct the slant.”

| Dell riding out the storm | | 2007-05-15 11:52:58 | | Dell embraced Web 2.0 with IdeaStorm, an interactive brainstorming forum in which the public can suggest improvements they'd like to see made to Dell computers. They can then discuss and rate their peers’ ideas. Dell offers to look at the most popular ideas and keep the site updated with their research and development on the viable ones.
The site shows the public that Dell isn’t just a monolith that churns out computers – it’s looking to put the ‘personal’ back into personal computer. The fact that someone is listening instils a certain amount of trust in the Dell brand (and they need this after the fallout caused by Dell Hell).
Does it work?
IdeaStorm was launched on February 16, 2007. What initially came to light was that there was an overwhelming demand for Dells that were preloaded with Linux. Within a week of IdeaStorm’s launch, Dell announced to the public that it was going to launch computers with Linux as the operating system. Needl | | By: Top-notch South African eMarketing blog
