Oil Rigs Offshore from the Outer Banks?
    2008-08-24 10:47:30
With the soaring prices of gas early in the summer, renewed interest was brought into drilling off the coast of North Carolina. The area affected would run along the Outer Banks. As you can imagine, many visitors and locals alike are much against the drilling. Lorraine Ahearn makes some good points in [...]...

The Dropper Loop - Fishing Knots and Rigs
    2008-06-29 04:20:20
The dropper loop is probably my most used fishing knot (I suppose it is more that a loop than a knot). Before I head out on the water I have usually tied at least ten of these loops. The dropper loop is used above a sinker to attach a hook and this type of rig is perfect for bottom fishing. Where I come from this is called the paternoster rig and is widely accepted as one of the best reef fishing rigs available. The dropper loop knot is fairly easy to tie after a bit of practice. I personally prefer to tie a twisted dropper loop as I find that the loops don't tangle with the main line as easily as the hooks sit away from the leader. This loop works well in both monofilament and fluorocarbon leader materials. How to tie a dropper loopThe first video shows a regular dropper loop and the second demonstrates a twisted dropper loop. I would advice to test both loops out and see which works best for you....

    Rigs of Rods
    2008-04-01 16:41:54
“Rigs of Rods (also known as RoR), is a truck, car, airplane and boat simulator. You can drive, fly or sail in total freedom in an open environment. What makes RoR different to most simulators is its unique soft-body physics: vehicles chassis and wheels are simulated in real-time as flexible objects, giving the simulation an [...]...

Jansik Knot - Muskie Fishing Knots and Rigs
    2008-01-22 22:20:19
This knot is well known in muskie fishing circles and is well regarded as one of the strongest fishing knots tested when tied correctly. Luckily it is fairly simple to tie and can be tied in the dark with some practice.1.Put 15cm of line through the eye of the hook.2. Bring it around in a circle and put the end through again.Making a second circle, pass then end through a third time.3. Holding the three circles of line against each other, wrap the end three times around the circles.Either hold the hook steady with pliers, or make it fast to boat's rigging or safety lines.4. Holding strain on the hook, pull on both ends of the line to tighten....

Fishing Knots and Rigs - nail knot (video)
    2008-01-11 04:31:02
The nail knot is a popular fly fishing knot and is used to attach leader butt to fly line or to attach backing to fly line. This knot can also used to make float stoppers. Just substitute a small straw or hard plastic tube in place of fly line and use rod wrapping thread in place of the leader material. Many anglers suggest that this knot should not be used for big fish due to fact that the knot depends on the outer coating of the fly line for strength....

Fishing Rigs: Rigging a squid for bait
    2008-01-05 03:42:39
This is one of the most common questions I am asked is how to rig a whole squid for pelagic fish. Rather than try to answer that question with words I have found a great squid rigging video that I am sure anyone that fishes with squid will find useful. The video is specifically focused on rigging a squid for swordfish, but the rigging technique will work with most pelagic species. It really is a great video that shows the process very clearly (much more clearly than I could put it into words). I hope the video is useful and good luck when rigging your squid for bait....

MEXICO: Saxon Energy adds three rigs into its Mexican joint venture
    2007-07-06 14:46:00
Saxon Energy Services Inc. announced that its Mexican joint venture, Drillers Technology de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (“DTM”), of which Saxon owns 51%, has signed a contract with Dowell Schlumberger de Mexico S.A. de C.V. for the provision of an additional three drilling rigs to work on integrated projects for Pemex in Mexico under a three year contract. The addition of these three new Advanced Technology Double rigs will add to the existing fleet of seven rigs currently operating in Mexico, bringing DTM’s rig fleet count in Mexico to a total of ten owned rigs and two leased rigs. The three new rigs are currently under construction and are expected to commence drilling activities in the third quarter of 2007. The addition of these three rigs will further strengthen DTM’s position in Mexico, making it the largest international drilling contractor in Mexico. Dale Tremblay, CEO of Saxon, said “Our strategic partnership with Schlumberger is an exciting avenue for growth for the Corpor...

INDIA: Soaring charter rates force oil exploration giants to buy rigs
    2007-06-06 00:49:00
India’s hunt for new energy sources has hit an unforeseen obstacle: dearth of operational rigs. Poor rig supply and soaring charter rates have led to long delays developing new energy deposits, and most oil majors have had to pay a penalty or even relinquish blocks for not fulfilling the minimum work programme. Rig shortage has even forced the government to postpone the next round of bidding through New Exploration and Licensing Policy (NELP) by four months.Faced with little option, exploration majors such as Reliance Industries (RIL), ONGC, Cairn India and Essar Group are planning to invest in constructing or buying rigs.RIL may have to further delay KG gas production due to late deliveries of deepwater drilling rigs by its service contractor Transocean Inc. KG gas production was scheduled to start by June 2008. In order to de-risk its exploration business from relying on its service contractors, RIL is actively pursuing plans to own a deepwater rig. The company is said to be in tal...
