| Reply to "Romania in one post" blog post | | 2007-09-11 19:05:35 | | I didn't have any time today for blogging, but I've read the Romania in one post - The thoughts of an IT professional and it really troubled me and made me unhappy. I couldn't find who is the guy writing this blog, no about page - it's like he is hiding from Google but reading in between posts I found out he left Romania 15 years ago.
I've read somewhere that Romanians are the nation that hurts itself most from all the other nations in the world by the bad publicity made by it's own people. It seems this is the case here as well.

Ok, so the reason it got me so discontent and ready to put work aside to answer his story is that while what he is saying might be true, I couldn't find a single good word about Romania. And I need to make things right by commenting on some of his ideas and bring some more new ones. Just six months ago, you’d have had major problems buying a property in Romania but now that it’s in the European Union, they need to treat all European citizens as they do they the locals. This makes the process of buying considerably easier. For instance, they can no longer require you to buy in conjunction with a local, or apply the various types of restrictions on foreign buyers that these countries used to do.
Anyway, as a result of this there’s something of an upsurge in companies listing property in these countries among others in particular as the prices are amongst the lowest there. The bargains to be had are considerable: properties are available from 10,000€. That’s property too, not just a building plot.

| Adobe Romania, a nice(r) place to work | | 2007-05-25 20:46:01 | | If you have followed my small business start-up story so far, I'm not sure if you know, but before that, I got the chance to work at other start-ups including InterAKT, that finally made it it big when it was acquired by Adobe. Back then InterAKT was a start-up just like mine - it's actually funny to think about the similarities with a company that is named Adobe Systems Romania now :)
Anyway, there are plenty of stories about how technology companies started small and make it big, as I've read in the Founders at Work book, but not so many that tell what happened to the companies after being bought. As only a handful of Romanian companies have been acquired, I'm in a fortunate position to be able to tell about the life of such a company after being bought.
