| Jacksonville Jaguars Rookie Signing: Cornerback Trae Williams | | 2008-07-16 00:17:52 | |
Adam Caplan is reporting to JagNation.com that Jaguars fifth-round pick, defensive back Trae Williams has signed a four-year deal. Details at JagNation.com
Williams is expected to compete with Scott Starks and Gerald Sensabaugh for the Jaguars nickelback job.
Williams is described by scouts as a perfect nickel cornerback prospect. Trae Williams and Scott Starks will battle it out for the fourth corner position with the loser possible being the fifth corner, or cut if the Jaguars choose not to keep 5 corners.
[Note by River City Rage, 07/16/08 1:12 AM EDT ] Once again, big thanks to Robb for reporting this here.
The Jaguars now have three of five draft picks under contract. Second round pick Quentin Groves and first round pick Derrick Harvey are next, and should be signed before the start of training camp. As of now there is no indication that either pick is proving difficult to sign and both "should" be ready for next Friday's opening of training camp.

| | NFL Rookie Signings Occuring at Snail's Pace | | 2008-07-15 11:43:56 | | McKelvin, four other rookies unsigned (Photo Source)
With the start of the Buffalo Bills' 2008 training camp a mere nine days away (camp practices begin on Friday the 25th of July), half of Buffalo's ten draft picks remain unsigned. Reaching deals with these five rookies before players are scheduled to report to camp (Thursday the 24th) now becomes Buffalo's top priority.
The inability to sign top rookies well in advance of training camp certainly isn't a new development, but it's still surprising how few of the draft's top 63 picks have actually inked deals with their new teams.
As of the time this article was written, just five players drafted within the first two rounds of this past April's NFL Draft have signed their rookie contracts. Those players are:
Dolphins OT Jake Long (#1 overall): 5 years, $57.5 million, $30 million guaranteedFalcons QB Matt Ryan (#3): 6 years, $72 million, $34.75 million guaranteedRaiders RB Darren McFadden (#4): 6 years, $60 million, $26 mill | | By: Buffalo Rumblings
| | Rookie Garnder win it for Yanks with 10 inn walk-off single | | 2008-07-06 15:01:00 | | What a ballgame in the Bronx tonight. The Yankees came back from being down 3-1 and 4-2 to take the series finale against the Red Sox by the score of 5-4 in ten innings. Joe Girardi was ejected in the 6th inning of tonight's game for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Laz Diaz. The Yankees came back and won, and are now 2-0 when Girardi gets tossed out of a game. Maybe Joe should argue more often. Haha.ON THE MOUND:Joba Chamberlain started for the Yankees and pitched well. For the first four innings he was dominating, allowing no runs, and just two base runners, but leading 1-0 in the top of the 5th Chamberlain got a little wild, and allowed three runs to give the Red Sox a 3-1 lead. The big hit of the inning was a two out, two run single off the bat of Dustin Pedroia. Overall he allowed allowed three runs on four hits and four walks, and struck out five in six innings of work.David Robertson relieved Chamberlain in the 7th and didn't get hit hard, but gave up a run. | | Dolphins sign rookie Shawn Murphy | | 2008-05-30 12:22:21 | |
[Editor's Note by Matty I] As I type this note, it's currently 4:30 pm EDT. And right now, there are no other reports of the Dolphins signing Murphy. So take the below KFFL report with a grain of salt and wait to hear further confirmation. And if anyone sees, hears, or reads a report that talks about Murphy potentially having his deal done with the Fins, please post it in the comments. [end note]
[UPDATE 4:49 pm] The Miami Herald is now also reporting that the Dolphins have signed Murphy with an official announcement coming shortly. [end update]
[UPDATE #2] And here's the info on the signing from the team's official site. [end update]
According to a report on KFFL.com, the Dolphins have signed rookie guard Shawn Murphy to a contract. The terms are unknown at this point.

| | Notes from rookie mini-camp | | 2008-05-10 06:00:01 | |
The Giants held their first day of rookie mini-camp Friday.
Here are links to some of the reports files by various beat writers.
Mike Garafolo of the Star Ledger files separate reports on the morning and afternoon sessions.
Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News filed this report. Vacchiano also lists all the unsigned "tryout" players who were on the field.
Ernie Palladino has a report on one invitee who didn't know until Thursday night that he would be on a football field Friday morning.
A FEW NOTES: Rookie QB Andre Woodson, a sixth-round pick, had an uneven day -- which is understandable considering the circumstances. Garafolo seemed impressed by second-round pick Terrell Thomas and fifth-round pick Jonathan Goff.

| | Some informed observations from Rookie Camp | | 2008-05-08 17:20:53 | |
I thought I'd take the opportunity to share some feedback on Rookie Camp from those in a better position to observe than I. As always, consider this informed opinion, so take it for what it is worth--I was certainly not there. Also, please remember that the rookies were in shorts and tees, not exactly how they're going to line-up against Seattle in September.
I think there is a tendency among very close observers of the game to be disappointed when they first see the rookies up close. They have scouted them ad nauseum, been enthusiastic about drafting them and see a lot of potential. Then, as people with decades in the NFL, they see chinks and problems under close-up first-hand scrutiny. Last year I recall that when the staff first saw Marshawn Lynch and Paul Posluszny, they were struck by how much better they actually were than on tape. They are equally enthusiastic about this year's class--although sadly my report will only deal with a few of them.

For clarity's sake, the only pieces I added to this body of work is the "Fit the Bill" section, and to further clarify, all of those appear in block quotes. Everything else is sireric's. Enjoy! In the upcoming NFL draft, it's a pretty good bet that the Buffalo Bills will draft a tight end. Incumbent starter Robert Royal, who is known as a solid blocker, is a shoo-in for the 2008 roster (sorry, Nick BensalemPA), but the rest of the depth chart consists of a plethora of good hands/bad blocker types. The Bills will be looking to add a "complete package" kind of tight end. A call came over the car's radio telling them to disperse some people who were loitering. The officers drove to the street and observed a small crowd standing on a corner. The rookie rolled down his window and said, "Let's get off the corner." No one moved, so he barked again, "Let's get off the corner!" Intimidated, the group of people began to leave, casting puzzled glances in his direction. Proud of his first official act, the young policeman turned to his partner and asked, "Well, how did I do?""Pretty good," replied the veteran, "especially since this was a bus stop." | | By: Police Jokes, Humor and Satire
| | | What could Buffalo expect from a rookie WR? | | 2008-02-20 12:57:59 | | Moulds took time to develop (FOX Sports) [editor's note, by Brian Galliford] Author sireric takes a look at some recent Pro Bowl wideouts to try to figure out if the Buffalo Bills can reliably count on a rookie receiver this season. His argument is convincing, and one I couldn't have made more convincing myself. End Note Can you expect a wide receiver to give solid production in his rookie year? And what would you consider solid production for that matter? For the sake of argument I will say that a solid season (statistically) for a wide receiver will be: 50+ catches, 750+ yards, and 3 or more touchdowns. Those aren't superstar type numbers, but they do represent a solid season, particularly for a rookie. It has been my argument that taking a receiver in the draft, anywhere, not just the first round, and expecting that player to give you a solid season, similar to the one I described above, is foolish. While some agree with me, others argue that gi | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

He talks about the similarities between John Beck's first year in Provo at BYU and his first year here in Miami for the Dolphins. Here's what he says: It's interesting to see how similar Beck's Freshman year was to this year as a rookie. Here are some observations: -Both BYU and Miami have proud traditions and high expectations, particularly at the quarterback position. (Steve Young, Jim McMahon, Ty Detmer, Dan Marino) -Both teams were down, which make the expectations that much heavier. - In both situations, Beck was forced into playing time because of injuries. And in both situations, Beck struggled. Both teams were pretty bad. The running games were non-extistant (BYU as a team averaged under 100 yards rushing per game) and the O-line did not offer much protection (I can't find the numb | | By: The Phinsider

| | Mid-season 2007 NFL Draft Rookie Report | | 2007-11-03 13:41:35 | | The Season is half over and it’s time to take a look at how the rookies are doing. Some of these players were training camp holdouts and some have been fighting injuries, but it’s still interesting to see the progress of these guys. However, I will tell you, the second half of their rookie season is more important than the first half, so don’t count any of these young prospects as “busts” just yet. I think it takes about three years to label a prospect with that tag.1. Oakland Raiders: QB JaMarcus Russell, LSURussell was a huge disappointment for a team still trying to find its identity with a young new coach. His lengthy holdout caused him missed all of training camp and he got way behind on learning the offense and subsequently hasn’t stepped onto the field yet. The Raiders quarterback situation got so bad they were forced to sign Dante Culpepper. Russell still might be a great quarterback in the future, but he definitely didn’t get off to a good start.2. Detroit Lions: WR Calvin Johnson, Georgia TechJohnson started out hot catching 2 touchdowns in his first two games, but since then hasn’t been back in the end zone. He has been a little bit of a disappointment. He missed the Chicago game with an injury and over all he has only caught 15 passes for 273 yards and two TDs.3. Cleveland Browns: OT Joe Thomas, WisconsinThomas has been fantastic, starting every game at left tackle. With Derek Anderson’s excellent play at quarterback it’s hard to fault Cleveland for selecting Thomas. Young, franchise left tackles are hard to find and the Browns have one in Thomas.4. Tampa Bay Bucs: DE Gaines Adams, ClemsonAdams definitely hasn’t played up to his potential yet. He has played some in every game in the defensive line rotation, but hasn’t been able to beat out Greg Spires or Kevin Carter in the starting lineup. He has only recorded 16 tackles and 1.5 sacks to date.5. Arizona Cardinals: OT Levi Brown, Penn StateBrown was drafted a little earlier than | | By: The NFL Draft Site | | |

Unlike other financial markets, the Forex market has no physical location, no central exchange. It operates through an electronic network of banks, corporations and individuals trading one currency for another.Learning anything new can lead to mistakes, but making mistakes can be the natural part of the learning process. When learning to trade or invest in the Forex, mistakes can lead to lose of profits and can become expensive. A good investor will understand the market they are using for trading. Whether you are new or experienced, you can still make mistakes. There are common errors that many traders and investors make when trading on the Forex. With a little research, you can learn how to avoid common Forex trader mistakes and how to learn to move on.Using too much margin when trading or investing on the Forex can lead to costly mistakes. Margin is the use of borrowed money to purchase securities. While it is true that using margins can help you make more money, it can also make your losses bigger. When new investors look at margins as “free” money, they have the potential to lose much more money in the Forex. Margin is not free money and using is too much can end up making more debt than profits. You would not buy stocks using a credit card, so you would not use margins to trade currency. When investors use margins when trading on the Forex, it requires the investor to have to watch their investments much more closely than when margins are not used. Margins should never be used if the investor does not have the experience or time to closely monitor their trades.Another common, but costly mistake is when investors buy and trade on unfounded tips. | | Diary of a Real Estate Rookie by Alison Rogers | | 2007-09-01 16:42:00 | | Diary of a Real Estate Rookie is essential reading for the neophyte real estate investor, and for anyone who listens with envy to cocktail-party stories that always climax with "huge capital gains." Unlike most popular authors in this field, Rogers refuses to present real estate as an easy path to riches. That's refreshing. If you want to read about how easy it is to be a landlord or to flip property, try Robert Kyosaki. Rogers always reminds the reader that the real estate life doles out a daily dose of work and risk. She's also great with the absurd anecdote. She describes a Manhattan penthouse sale where a high-end broker, "offering the apartment for $3.99 million had not managed to take away the show sheets left by [another broker] who had offered the unit just a few months earlier at $2.77 million. Just yesterday, I was in a model unit priced at $2.3 million, where, I swear to heaven, I could have done a better job installing the floors with a staple gun."

First-round cornerback Darrelle Revis, second-round linebacker David Harris and seventh-round wide receiver Chansi Stuckey have yet to sign with the team. However, Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum hasn’t had a rookie holdout in his tenure with the Jets since 1997 with the exception of James Farrior who held out for a short period of time.

| | Let me speak at the Rookie Symposium | | 2007-06-24 14:41:33 | |
The annual Rookie Symposium is set to take off this week. All NFL rookies are gathered to go over what not to do as an NFL player. Well, what not to do as a person. Current NFL players and people in the know go over topics like money, women, pot, drinking, chicks, security, dealing with personal issues, strippers, “your buddies”, dealing with success, babes, life after football, media stuff, and women.
This season may be easier than ever before to put together a curriculum for the four day treat. Binders with newspaper clippings from the past year would do it. ProFootballtalk.com could be a good source. Their popular “Turd Watch” has already compiled a decent list of things not to do.
Reggie Bush, who isn’t too far into his NFL career himself, is set to speak at the event.

| | Saturday Dolphin Buzz: Rookie’s Signed and Trent Green Update | | 2007-05-26 18:23:36 | |
Good morning Dolphin fans. Here are some good Dolphin bits for you to chew on…
The evolving and revolving Dolphins offensive line took another spin when coach Cam Cameron announced incumbent starting center Rex Hadnot is now the starting right guard.
Cam Cameron has given Chris Liwienski the starting nod at left guard after a brief competition with Dan Stevenson. Liwienski, 31, came in as an unrestricted free agent from the Cardinals in March. He was a key member of the Vikings’ line that protected quarterback Daunte Culpepper from 2000-04 when he earned his three Pro Bowl berths.
Dolphins coach Cam Cameron indicated Friday that if Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Trent Green were to join the team, that wouldn’t necessarily mean Daunte Culpepper would immediately leave.
The NFL Network’s Jim Fassel reported Friday that the Dolphins have upped their offer for Trent Green to a conditional sixth-round pick. The Chiefs have been holding out for a fourth-r | | By: SporTech Matter

Nobody will be a declared a superstar -- or a bust -- just because of how they perform at this mini-camp. It really is simply a chance for players and coaches to begin getting to know each, get used to the professional way of life and an opportuntiy for some undrafted free agents to catch the eyes of the coaches. It does, however, provide us with something to talk about. Here is the list of signed free agents who will be attending the mini-camp. • Matthews, Michael, TE, Georgia Tech • Myles, Brandon, WR, West Virginia • London, Brandon, WR, Massachusetts • Thomas, Marco, WR, Western Illinois • Hall, Gabe, T, Texas Tech • Austin, Rob, T, Troy State • Jones, Justin, T, Central Arkansas • Clinger, Joel, T, Missouri • Keenan, Ryan, G, Northwestern • Gunn, Marquise, DE, Auburn • Taylor, Charrod, DE, Georgia Southern • Johnson, Trav | | By: Big Blue View
| | | Rookie Jack Johnson fights for respect | | 2007-04-09 05:36:00 | | With the season winding down, on Saturday there were some hockey fights. In the Blackhawks-Red Wings game there was actually a fight. Patrick Sharp and Andreas Lilja had a spirited bout with Lilja landing two good punches on Sharp. Sharp also looked to land a punch but the decision goes to Lilja. In the Coyotes-Kings game there were three fights and rookie Jack Johnson was in two of them. First Daniel Carcillo and Jack Johnson dropped the gloves and had a spirited bout where both guys threw some nice punches, but the edge went to Carcillo. Jackson though showed up and threw punches back. Watch the YouTube video of this fight below.Daniel Carcillo vs Jack JohnsonThe next fight in the Coyotes-Kings game was between Josh Gratton and Raitis Ivanans. This fight happened because earlier Ivanans hit Keith Ballard into the boards and he fell awkwardly and was hurt. So Gratton and Ivanans dropped the gloves off a faceoff. Both guys exchanged punches but Ivanans used his reach to hold out Gratton and throw punches at him. The decision goes to Ivanans in this fight. Near the end of the game, Shane Doan hit Jamie Heward into the Kings goalie and Jack Johnson went at Doan, Doan immediately dropped his gloves and started throwing punches at Johnson. Heward jumps in and everyone tries to get in there. Even Curtis Joseph came down the ice but no line brawl took place. I agree with the Kings commentator in that what Doan did was cheap. There's no reason to hit a player into the goalie in the final minute of the last game of the season. I had a lot of respect for him but seeing that, I lost some.In the Lightning-Thrashers game, Nick Tarnasky and Eric Boulton dropped the gloves and fought. I did not see this fight yet so I can't tell you about it. In the Ducks-Blue Jackets game, Ron Hainsey instigated a fight with Rob Niedermayer because Niedermayer boarded Zherdev. Not much of a fight, both guys threw some punches but nothing landed. I give this one a draw. | | By: NHL Hockey Fights | | |
