| Shockey Trade Will Help Saints Defense | | 2008-07-22 16:20:58 | | I spent all of last night and this morning pondering the trade of Jeremy Shockey to the Saints, I for one am ecstatic. I, like many wanted the trade to happen back during the draft, and when it did not, I was a bit upset. But low and behold, Christmas has come early and Shockey [...] | | By: NFL GridIron Gab | | |

| Saints Deal with Pats to Move up to 7 and Take Ellis | | 2008-04-26 14:56:29 | | The Pats moved their 7th pick of the draft to the Saints, and in a move that was expected, the Saints jumped right into the mix, grabbing USC DT Sedrick Ellis with that pick. | The Phinsider Community Mock Draft: Pick #10 - New Orleans Saints | | 2008-03-27 12:13:06 | | With the 9th pick in The Phinsider Community Mock Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC. Ellis picked up 80% of the vote, which is the largest total so far. A distant second place was Keith Rivers with 5%. So here's how the last 5 picks in our draft have gone: Kansas City Chiefs - Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St. (30%) New York Jets - Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio St. (56%) New England Patriots - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tenn St. (32%) Baltimore Ravens - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU (41%) Cincinnati Bengals - Sedrick Ellis, DT, LSU (80%) To see the entire draft so far, click here. Next up, rounding out the top 10, are the New Orleans Saints. Below are the Saints' needs, courtesy of NFL Draft Countdown: 1. Defensive Tackle: Brian Young, Hollis Thomas & Kendrick Clancy are all okay but there is not an impact player among them and it is probably time to bring in a difference maker in the middle of the line. 2. Outside Linebacker: Scott Fuji | | By: The Phinsider | | |

| King: Shockey to Saints not dead | | 2008-03-24 10:58:12 | | Maybe he is just trying to stir up off-season intrigue, but SI.com's Peter King believes the Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints talks aren't dead. From King's Monday Morning Quarterback column today. I think, Giant beat writers, you might sniff around this one: New Orleans is not through trying to acquire Jeremy Shockey. I'm not making too much of this rumor. It seems that the Saints would like Shockey, and they probably will continue asking right up through Draft Day. I doubt, though, that General Manager Jerry Reese intends to let Shockey go. Previous reports indicated that the Giants wanted at least a No. 1 pick, or a No. 2 and a starting type player for Shockey. I see no reason why that would have changed. I also see no reason why New Orleans would give up that much for a guy coming off a broken leg. I really don't care what King says. The Saints can sniff around all they want, but I still believe Shockey will be a Giant next season. Your thoughts?

| Morgan Lands with the Saints | | 2008-03-07 16:58:00 | | Dan Morgan will join the guy who replaced him at UM, as he signed a deal with the New Orleans saints. Morgan and Vilma were two of the best LBs to ever wear a uniform at the U and now will be in the same front 7. However, they both supposedly play MLB, so it should be interesting to see who starts and who is benched/gets moved to the outside. I would imagine that the Saints would place the smaller Vilma on the weak side if they plan on starting both players. | | By: State of Miami | | |

| Saints, Colts Potential Destinations for Thomas | | 2008-02-16 19:34:00 | | Looks like Zach won't be out of work for long, as his agent predicted. Both the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints have already contacted him and he is planning to visit both teams sometime around the NFL Combine.I'd like to see him head to Dallas myself. Aside from their inexplicable collapse at the end of the season, they are the most talented squad in the NFC. If they can get around to playing well come playoff time, he would have a pretty good shot at winning that ring.If not, then Indianapolis would be a decent destination. I don't think the Tampa 2 is necessarily the best scheme for Zach, but I'm sure Tony Dungy would find a way to squeeze him in. And I'm certain Peyton Manning will take relief in knowing Thomas will be on his side for once. | | By: State of Miami | | |

| Catholic Carnival 156: Saints, Sin, Politics, and Life | | 2008-01-22 07:37:21 | | There is a little of everything in this Catholic Carnival - from great information about Saints and Cardinals to incisive looks at our political culture today. I started to organize it more, but it just felt more like life when I left it a little messy. Without any other jibber-jabber, here's the Catholic Carnival:
Spending a Year in Good Company at Just Another Day of Catholic Pondering reflects on Sarah's patron Saints for this year: Sts. Paul and Barnabas. She also includes links to find your patron Saint for this year.
Things I'm Learning from Saint Catherine of Siena at Postscripts from the Catholic Spitfire Grill does just what the title suggests and explores judgmentalism and personal holiness.
What's Intent Got to Do With It? at We Belong to the Lord answers the question with a few examples that perfectly explain. Relativism is everywhere.

Solid way to end it for our defense, who sent a few blitzes to keep Palko from pulling a Falco and winning the game. I've seen better pre-season performances, but the young guys made enough plays to win this one. Full analysis to come early tomorrow morning; be sure to cast your vote for Player of the Game in the new poll to the right! Update [2007-8-10 22:42:55 by Brian G]: Two-minute warning, and Palko (Falco?) is driving the Saints down the field. I'd love to see our young defense make one more play to lay this thing to rest, but they've looked more like a broken dam than a defense tonight. Update [2007-8-10 22:38:58 by Brian G]: This is why I love the pre-season. Why not try a 54-yard field goal? Rian Lindell had a ton of leg on that one and drilled it right down the middle; the Bills lead 13-10 with about 3 minutes remaining. Fred Jack | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

| Saints D not THAT bad? | | 2007-07-23 17:10:32 | |
I was just having a look at the NFL.com page and seen that the poll up today is asking for the best Defense in the NFCSouth. Of course I hit a vote for the Panthers but I was surprised by the results so far in the poll.
Panthers 51%
Saints 26%
Bucs 17%
Falcons 6%
The Saints are traditionally on the bottom of this list. Should this be attibuted to the Saints offseason moves or the decline of the Falcons and Bucs? Although there were no stellar signings in the offseason they did bring in help in the D-Backfield and LB corps. Charles Grant was locked up and teamed with Will Smith makes a jiggy duo on the ends of the line. The middle of the line is still a worry and now Bryant Young broke his foot.
Apparently the voting public feels that the Saints are not as bad on the defensive side of the ball as usual. What does this say for the Falcons and Bucs? Just a year ago these two squads were still considered some of the best in the league.

| Former Eagles LB Jones Says He’ll Sign With the Saints | | 2007-07-06 04:15:24 | | The New Orleans Saints appear close to getting more defensive help, as former Eagles LB Dhani Jones says that he intends to sign with the team. Jones was a starter for the Eagles last season, but was wavied by the club after the draft. Jones had played four seasons with the Eagles after playing the first three seasons of his career with the New York Giants. Last season he played in all 16 games, recording 76 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and five passes defensed.
The 29-year-old gave the news while speaking on the NFL Network. The Saints have yet to have any comment on the possible deal with Jones. The linebacker who is listed at 6-foot-1, 240 pounds had his best season back in 2003, when he led the Giants with a career high of 120 tackles. The current listed starters for the Saints at linebacker include Mark Simoneau, Scott Shanle, and Scott Fujita. | | By: NFL GridIron Gab

| Saints #1 Pick Meachem to Have Right Knee Examined | | 2007-06-04 20:43:06 | |
The New Orleans Saints are hoping for a big year for their number one pick, wide out Robert Meachem from Tennessee, but now tensions are high with the development that Meachem will have his right knee examined. The 27th pick in the draft missed practices on Sunday and Monday, and head coach Sean Payton stated that the exam will look at a possible problem with his medial meniscus.
The team also stated that they knew about a possible minor meniscus problem before they drafted him in late April. As for how much of a problem this will be, the exam should be able to shead some light on the issue. “It started to get to the point where it was hampering him [Sunday afternoon] running,” Payton said. “We backed him off yesterday and the same way this morning.”
Meachem sat out Sunday afternoon with a white bandage wrapped around the lower part of his right leg. He took the brunt of Payton’s wrath recently for missing part of minicamp with a sprained left ank | | By: NFL GridIron Gab
