    2008-08-02 09:37:34
With the economic turmoil we have seen, California has become insolvent.  In a move of desperation, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger cut 200,000 government employees salaries to the Federal minimum wage, and terminated thousands more part-time and temporary jobs. “Today I am exercising my executive authority to avoid a full-blown crisis and keep our state moving forward,” [...]

Iftikhar, other SC judges get salaries
    2008-06-17 23:43:48
ISLAMABAD, June 17: The government on Tuesday delivered paycheques for seven months to the deposed judges of the Supreme Court, including non-functional Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.“These salaries were paid under the Salaries Sanction Order, 2008,” claimed Athar Minallah, a spokesman for Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, while talking to Dawn. However, law ministry sources said the salary had been sanctioned from the prime minister’s discretionary funds.Law Minister Farooq H. Naek recently informed the National Assembly that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had issued directives for the payment of salary to the deposed judges.“Through an executive order these judges have been made non-functional, from deposed, and now all that is required is another such order to make them functional,” Mr Minallah said, adding that handing over of the payslips meant impliedly that the judges were no more deposed and stood reinstated. He said if the judges were considered as deposed ones

    Residency Salaries
    2008-04-28 18:23:00
I started obsessing about how many years it takes to become an MD, so I was comforted by the statistics I found for the mean salary of residencies nationwide. It's not as bad as I thought. Although residencies are the equivalent of hell-week spread out over 3 plus years, at least we are compensated for our work. I found out there are also many perks besides just the salary. I know this is premature, but it is something to look forward to following four or more years of school. The 2007 Mean stipends in United States for a MD Resident (also called house-staff) from any specialty were as follows: 1st Year (PGY1 / Intern ): $44,0002nd Year (PGY2): $46,0003rd Year (PGY3): $48,0004th Year (PGY4): $52,000/-5th Year (PGY5): $54,000/-6th Year (PGY6): $54,000/- Note: These are means based on a national survey by the AAMC - the actual figures can vary by $3,000 to $4000 on either side of the mean, an at times more.Info Provided By: http://mdsalaries.blogspot.com/2005/10/residency-salaries.html

GM increases exec salaries to "normal" levels
    2008-04-26 18:53:00
GM has seen plenty of tough times over the past few years, and even the company's top executives have felt the pinch. Executive pay was among the items cut as the General waded through multi-billion-dollar losses and immense market pressure, but after two years of cuts, the members of GM's top brass are getting their old salaries back. Top boss Rick Wagoner's base pay went as "low" as $1.1M but is now back to its 2003 level of $2.2M. Product czar Bob Lutz and money man Fritz Henderson also had their pay restored, and Fritz even got a raise to reflect his promotion to COO. Many of the pay cuts were voluntary in recognition of GM's market struggles, but even with the cuts in base pay, overall executive pay packages are worth a lot more than just the salaries alone. Wagoner, for example, was paid $14.4M in 2007, while Maximum Bob came in at $6.9M.[Source: Auto News (subs. req'd)]

    2008-01-21 00:30:21
In a previous post (Physician Salaries on the Decline) I wrote about declining physician salaries and how that is bad for healthcare. I recently found a post from a medical student in the U.K. The system is kind of different there. He talks about the salary a newly graduated doctor would make out of medical school. [...]

    Salaries & Non Profits
    2007-11-13 11:12:00
Buffalo Business First had a special insert in last week's paper titled All About Nonprofits: Featuring the 2007 Million Dollar Nonprofits (News blurb here). There was all kinds of data included, but something that caught my eye were the salaries for the Executive Directors for some of the organizations. I understand that some of these organizations are quite large and offer many services, so I can see how an Executive's salary could creep into the six-figure range. I do wonder about staff salaries, though. Having previously worked in the non-profit arena, I'm well aware of the kind of salaries those jobs command. One hopes that the salaries offered to the people delivering the services are in a fair ratio to what the top executive of the non-profit makes him or herself.$209,139 Thomas Holt, President & CEO, Lutheran Social Services Group Inc.$199,688 Thomas Becker, President, Chautauqua Institution$138,384 Paul Cessana, Executive Director, Resource Center$94,943 Roberta K

Total Lost Revenues from JPEPA Could Pay for Salaries of RP Nurses
    2007-09-17 04:11:00
The Philippine government could actually keep Filipino nurses from going abroad by utilizing revenues it would otherwise have foregone under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA).BY IBON FOUNDATIONPosted by BulatlatVol. VII, No. 32, September 16-22, 2007The Philippine government could actually keep Filipino nurses from going abroad by utilizing revenues it would otherwise have foregone under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA).The average monthly salary of a nurse in the public sector is some P10, 000 ($215.98 at an exchange rate of $1=P46.30). The government employs around 20,000 nurses. Even if the salaries of these nurses are increased to P50,000 ($1,079), it would only cost the government P1 billion ($21,598,272).read more from the source: www.bulatlat.comhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/FESA http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/nAuu

Top 10 Salaries in the NFL as Published in the USA Today
    2007-07-05 20:48:33
USA Today has Published the top salaries in the National Football League, and some of the names, as a matter a fact, MOST of the names, should surprise you.  Topping the list overall is a HUGE shock to me, as Pats DE Richard Seymour tops the list after making a whopping $24 million in 2006. Saints QB Drew Brees is 2nd, and his 2006 season earned that.  3rd is Vikings OL Bryant McKinnie, the mammoth 6-foot-8, 343 pounder.  4th is another Vikings OL, Steve Hutchinson, who got a monster deal and took a lot of heat from moving from the Hawks to the Vikings last season. Jeff Backus is 5th, making an unreal $16.2 million last year.  Totally overpaid in my opinion.  Two top QB’s are next - Carson Palmer and Tom Brady, which is not much of a shock.  John Abraham is next at $15.5 million of the Falcons, with two offensive players at 9 & 10, Shaun Alexander of the Hawks and Reggie Wayne of the Colts rounding out the top 10 in the league. 1       Seymour, Richard       $
