| | NFL Commish Reacts to Comments by Portis, Samuels | | 2007-05-23 04:15:51 | | You had to know that it wouldn’t take long for the league to react to the senseless comments made by Redskins running back Clinton Portis, and on Tuesday, the reaction came all the way from the top. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell came out and gave his take on Portis’ comments, which included that he supported Falcons QB Michael Vick and that he didn’t feel he was doing anything wrong supporting dog fighting. Goodell says that Portis was out of line.
“I’m extremely disappointed and embarrassed for Clinton Portis,” Goodell said in a written statement following a one-day NFL owners’ meeting. “This does not reflect the sentiments of the Redskins, the NFL or NFL players.” Vick remains under investigation for his possible involvement in the alleged dogfighting operation in Virginia, which took place in a home that he owned, but he claimed that he didn’t live in, and that his cousin was living there.

| | Portis, Samuels Brush off Vick’s Dog Fighting Issues | | 2007-05-22 13:50:24 | | Speaking without thinking. It’s a common happening in sports, as over the years I have heard plenty of players, coaches, and even owners say things that come back to bite them. In this case, a pair of Washington Redskin players were speaking about biting, and their comments should show you just where the mindset of today’s players are today.
The two players are running back Clinton Portis and offensive linemen Chris Samuels, who both on Monday decided to speak out about the ongoing saga of Falcons QB Michael Vick and his latest snafu - a dog fighting ring that it appears he was somehow involved in. The ring was discovered by agents when they stormed a home that Vick owns in a raid, but Vick claims he does not live in the home, that his cousin does.
In recent weeks though, more than one source claims that Vick was not only well aware of the activities at his home, but also enjoyed taking part in them. Far be it from me to pass judgement on if dog fighting is a crime, but it | | By: NFL GridIron Gab | | |

| Samuels in match-fixing scandal | | 2007-02-08 04:44:00 | | Indian police stunned the cricket world late Wednesday when they accused West Indian all-rounder Marlon Samuels of dealing with an illegal bookmaker during a recent One-day series in India.Indian cricket board vice-president Shashank Manohar said the report from the police in central Nagpur, where the alleged incident took place, had been passed on to the International Cricket Council (ICC)."The ICC and its anti-corruption unit will deal with what is obviously a very serious accusation," Manohar told reporters. "It concerns a foreign player. The Indian board can't take any action."There was no immediate reaction from the Dubai-based offices of the ICC, but Samuels, 26, denied any wrongdoing."I don't do such things man," Thursday's Times of India quoted Samuels as saying. "I have not done anything wrong. The West Indies Cricketers' Association will take up the matter if necessary."Amitesh Kumar, deputy police commissioner of Nagpur, said Samuels released important team information to the bookmaker during the first One-day international, citing tapped telephone conversations between the pair.Kumar told reporters on Wednesday that Samuels had five conversations with the bookmaker, identified in the calls as Mukesh Kochar, although there was no evidence money had changed hands.India won the match against the West Indies on January 21 by 14 runs."We have recorded information that Samuels leaked important team information to Kochar from his hotel room in five telephone calls on January 20 and 21," Kumar said."We do not have evidence if any financial commitment was made. All I will say is the link between the player and the bookie is a violation of the ICC Code of Conduct for players." | | By: World News, News Updates, Current Events, News Art | | |
