| Schill Chilled | | 2008-02-07 12:29:00 | | "Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is not expected to be ready for the start of spring training because of shoulder issues, much like the ones that caused the club to shut him down for seven weeks last season, according to sources."Peter here...does this bad news open the door for Clay Buchholz? (YES!!) Maybe it's a blessing in disguise? (NO!) I have no idea. But I think...I think..I think I shouldn't think! But I'm good at it. That sad news was from Boston dot com...and I wish I could share happier news. Is this a blessing?? NO, NO...I thought Schill was going to have a great 2008. Call me speechless, because I am. For once. Our rotation, sans Johan Santana and Curt Schilling, will be Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jon Lester, Tim Wakefield and Clay Buchholz. Good enough? We'll see.... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | The Stage Shifts To Schill | | 2007-10-07 12:22:00 | | Curt Schilling versus Jered Weaver, a study in contrasts. Jered Weaver of the LA Angels is making his first postseason start. Curt Schilling of the Boston Red Sox is 8-2 in his October career, with an ERA of 2.06. That winning percentage is the best of any pitcher with more than 10 postseason decisions, and his ERA is the third best among those who have pitched more than 100 innings. The Sox are up 2 games to none and are poised to put the killing blow, the finishing touches on the Western Division champions. Early. In 3 straight. If they win, Josh Beckett would be perfectly lined up to start game 1 of the American League Championship Series against Cleveland or the Yankees on Thursday. But that's looking ahead, and the present is what's important right now. And that present starts at 3:07pm EDT Sunday October 7, 2007. Triple 7s....lucky? We'll see soon. The Yankees will send Roger Clemens to the mound to face Jake Westbrook, who compliled a won/loss record of 6-9 this year. Their backs are also to the wall, down 2 games to none. An early exit would be sweet for all members of Red Sox Nation and Red Sox International, for the pinstriped ones have played us mighty tough, winning 10 of the 18 games played during the regular season. Will there be more Yankee/Red Sox games to come this year? Let's put it this way....I'm rooting for Cleveland to take it all today, in the Bronx, just as I'm hoping the Sox can swoop into California, win one game, and jet back home for the ALCS, when again they'll have the home field advantage. And if we get that far, the home field advantage for the World Series to boot, and how sweet would that be?My Constant Readers, as Stephen King calls his fans, click on the title of this post for the Globe's Jackie MacMullan's look at the Angel/Red Sox series as it stands right now. And enjoy the afternoon delight to come that is October baseball, on TBS and TBS-HD, who have been doing a tremendous job covering the postseason so far. Much better than Fox ever has or ever will. GO SCHILL....GO SOX. Any comments or predictions? Please leave them right here, and I'll respond to them promptly, as the minutes slowly creep towards that MAGIC time, and all of RSN and RSI await. Be well.... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Two Batters Too Many For Schill....Angels Thump Red Sox | | 2007-08-07 12:04:00 | | It was a 2-2 ballgame through six, and Schill had pitched well. He was matched, however, by Angels' starter Jered Weaver. Weaver departed after the sixth, but Curt stayed in....for two batters. A home run and a double chased him from the game, the Angels scored two and they eventually won the game by a score of 4-2. It was a credible first appearance by Curt, but the Angel pitching was too much for the Sox hitters. Coupled with the Yankees' win, the AL East lead is down to six games. Not enough for me.One other note of interest was that Manny Ramirez was ejected from the game for arguing a third strike call. He uttered "the magic word" twice as he walked away from the plate and umpire James Hoye, according to manager Tito. And that ejection ended up hurting the club bigtime. It's up to Tim Wakefield to get the Red Sox back on the winning track. He's been pitching well of late, and he'll be facing the 5-0 Joe Saunders at 10pm tonight. After that, there's the west coast final editio... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| Late Inning Magic Lifts The Red Sox--Schill Return News | | 2007-07-28 12:07:00 | | As the old saying goes, better late than never, and that was very true last night at Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Red Sox were held scoreless through the first five innings, and then erupted for three runs in the sixth inning, thanks to a home run smashed by Kevin Youkilis. That made it 3-1, and with a four spot in the eighth inning, the final score was 7-1 good guys. Manny continued his hot hitting, going 2-4, as his club won for the seventh time in the past eight games. With the Yankees' split of a suspended game and a regularly scheduled one, the lead is back to a healthy 8 games. And with Curt Schilling coming back (see below) on August 5th or 6th, things look great with a little more than two months to go. Tim Wakefield, who loves pitching at the Trop, recorded his 12th victory, going six mostly strong innings and allowing one solo run while striking out 7. The clutch Manny Delcarmen, little Manny no more, handled the 7th and 8th innings with just 26 pit... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Schill Shut Down; Lester Waiting In The Wings? | | 2007-06-20 22:42:00 | | The Red Sox announced that Curt Schilling has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to this past Monday. The MRI on his shoulder showed no damage, but he had a cortisone shot and thought their might have been a touch of tendonitis there. The Red Sox decided to edge on the side of caution and shut him down. That means he will be out until July 3, which is the Red Sox first meeting of the year with the Devil Rays. Josh Beckett will pitch this coming Sunday against the Padres, taking Schilling's turn, and Julian Tavarez will open the series in Seattle on Monday. So now the speculation will revolve around who will take Schilling's place. They don't have to make that decision until after the weekend, but this could mean the return of Jon Lester to the Red Sox. He's been pitching very well at Pawtucket, but he had a shaky outing today at Indianapolis, walking four in five innings and giving up three runs and striking out three.Another logical candidate maybe Kason Gabbard, ... | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |
| | GOOD NEWS About Schill........ | | 2007-06-20 14:18:00 | | This is from the Herald, just now...the entire article is there for you by clicking on this post's title....here we go.......ATLANTA - "Curt Schilling's exit out of town wasn’t good news for the Red Sox..... After suffering through one of the most ineffective starts of his career, Schilling was sent back to Boston yesterday to undergo tests on his right pitching shoulder, including an MRI. According to a source last night, the MRI showed no structural damage. ****Peter here, and YES!!!!!**** Schilling had been bothered by discomfort in his shoulder in the days leading up to Monday night’s start, according to a clubhouse source. The feeling evidently continued into the 4 1/3-inning appearance against the Atlanta Braves during a 9-4 loss. “I think we knew going into the start he wasn’t feeling like a spring chicken,” Red Sox manager Terry Francona said before last night’s game at Turner Field. “I could probably go through 100 starts with him like that. | Schill To Oki To Paps....PHEW!!!!! | | 2007-05-06 23:12:00 | | Curt Schilling ran out of gas in the middle of the pitch-filled 7th, and at times the Sox ran themselves out on the basepaths. Those gaffes almost came back to bite them you-know where, but then Hideki "the Darkman" Okajima bailed the club out. JUST. He allowed 2 inherited runners to score, but pitched through the 8th. And then it was "PAPS" TIME. 1-2-3. Game over. The Red Sox win and take 2 of 3 from the Twinkies, cream filled or not. The Sox are 20-10 on this bad news Sunday. A full wrap-up right here in the morning as the Sox travel to Toronto for an off day Monday and a 3 game series starting Tuesday. 20-10...NOT BAD! Clemens be damned!... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
