| The emerging scientific discipline of aeroecology | | 2008-08-01 09:35:54 | | Aeroecology is the emerging discipline for studying how airborne organisms -- birds, bats, arthropods and microbes -- depend on the support of the lower atmosphere that is closest to the Earth's surface. Called the aerosphere, it influences the daily and seasonal movements, development traits, such as size and shape, and evolution of behavioral, sensory, metabolic and respiratory functions of airborne organisms. Understanding how they respond to altered landscapes and atmospheric conditions can also help mitigate adverse effects.

| 10 Scientific Blockbusters that Didn't Follow Science. | | 2008-07-25 03:48:00 | | Movie is still movie. It's more to the purpose as entertainment. If everything must based on logic and scientific fact, the movie would be no more taste. However, here's the articles from Katy Y where she posted in Yahoo Buzz. It's a very interesting post, where she had pointed 10 blockbusters that had ignored science. Here we share...."If movies were completely scientifically accurate, they'd probably be as interesting as a Physics 101 lecture. In real life, there are no explosions in space, gas usually doesn't explode from a lit cigarette, and Bruce Willis/Jackie Chan/Will Smith would most likely be in a coma after getting kicked in the head. Some movies, though, put science front and center in the story and more often than not the science proves to be head-slappingly bad. Here are some of the worst offenders. Armageddon. We could put together a long list of all the things wrong with Michael Bay's feel-good ode to global destruction, but NASA has already and they counted at least 168 | | By: Sharing Zone | | |

| Is Evolution In Trouble? | Scientific Evidence on the Oneness (Tawheed) of Allah (SWT) | | 2007-12-23 10:46:00 | | Ibrahim B. Syed, Ph. D. PresidentIslamic Research Foundation International, Inc.7102 W. Shefford LaneLouisville, KY 40242-6462, USAInsha'Allah I will talk a few words on "Qur'an and Science" which I hope will be beneficial for Dawah work. I am a student of Science and a student of Qur'an Majeed. Although my knowledge of Arabic is basic, Alhamdulillah I have discovered that the scholars have failed to translate the Qur'an faithfully, particularly into the English language. For example Zauj is translated as wife rather than spouse. Alaq is translated as blood clot or congealed blood rather than leech or something that clings. Similarly very few people know the meaning of Nikah or Zina.Science means knowledge or "ILM" in Arabic, or systematic study of Natural Phenomena or Ayah(in Arabic). God or Allah (SWT) says in the Qur'an Kareem "Inna Fi Dalika La Ayathin Li Qaumin Yatha Fakkarun." Meaning these are the Signs for those people whothink. Allah(SWT) asks us to study His creation(Nature) and our own selves to understand Him. There are over 1200 verses in the Qur'an which deal with scientific subjects.History of God:Every child and adult must have asked at least once in a lifetime such questions as what is God? How does God look like? When was God born? Will God die? Who are God' parents? Does God have children? Does God exist? If there is a God they why don't I see God? Why can't God talk to me? These and many others are very difficult questions to answer for those whose religion is not Islam. Here an attempt is made to answer these questions fully or partially.Everyone believes in something-unseen spirits, which can help or harm; many gods; own ability to make a happier world; national government; money; science; science; history; philosophical speculation; or just one God. | Scientific Proof of the Power of Mecca | | 2007-10-15 01:41:06 | | Ingestion of holy water from Mecca can turn people Muslim. This is the amazing conclusion after subjecting holy water from Mecca to scientific tests.A local ethnic store had a specialty for sale: genuine, holy water from Mecca. At a discount price of only $3 for a beautiful plastic amphora filled with the waters from the Holy City, the offer was too good to pass.As sensible skeptics, we suspected that perhaps the amphora might contain nothing but simple tap water, but the store assured us that no-one would buy tap water for $3 a bottle in those quantities, and therefore the water was indeed the real thing. We were still not entirely convinced, but the store owner added that Muslims purchased these bottles to keep in their homes as well, and that they would obviously never cheat their fellow peoples. In addition, the Arab letters clearly described the contents of the container as holy water imported from the holy city in Saudi Arabia. There could be no doubt about its authenticity. Thus the proud and unexpected owners of such a rarity, we began to wonder what to do with this sacriligious item. We are not Muslims, and therefore had no clue what to do with such holy water. Fortunately we don't belong to any other religion either and therefore needed not worry about going to a wrong Hell in case we misapplied the contents.Instead, we decided to perform some experiments to see if holy water from the holy city of Mecca would demonstrate an effect different from that of regular tap water. To begin with, we decided to water one of our plants with the holy water. The plant showed no difference in growth, except that within days the plant started to turn away from the light outside the window. Since the plant thrived, evidently the light did no harm, but it seemed very unusual for a plant to turn away from the light.
On repeating the experiment in different rooms with windows facing in
different directions it became clear that the plants did indeed not turn away from the light | | By: What's This?

| Father of scientific climatology calls man-made global warming theory ‘hooey’ | | 2007-06-18 17:47:22 | | The “father of scientific climatology” says that talk about man-made global warming is a bunch of hooey. When are people going to wake up and realize that we’re all being had by people trying to make money?
Reid Bryson, known as the father of scientific climatology, considers global warming a bunch of hooey.
The UW-Madison professor emeritus, who stands against the scientific consensus on this issue, is referred to as a global warming skeptic. But he is not skeptical that global warming exists, he is just doubtful that humans are the cause of it.
There is no question the earth has been warming. It is coming out of the “Little Ice Age,” he said in an interview this week.
“However, there is no credible evidence that it is due to mankind and carbon dioxide. We’ve been coming out of a Little Ice Age for 300 years. We have not been making very much carbon dioxide for 300 years. It’s been warming up for a long time,” Bryson said.

| Manly Man Brains- A Scientific Explanation | | 2006-12-30 22:09:31 | | Sad day today. I had to remove the cool 8 ball attachment on the shifter in my car. This, obviously, degraded the car’s coolness factor to “cool,” due to the fact that I still have my fuzzy dice hanging on the rear view. It had been “really cool” with the 8 ball gearshift cover, and I was looking forward to getting little fuzzy beads around the top that would have upgraded it to “ultra cool,” but the number 8 on the 8 ball wore off and all I was left with was a round ball shifter top thingy, which really isn’t very cool. It was also, if I want to get technical about the whole thing, somewhat on the unsafe side, since the ball didn’t really fit on the shifter and wobbled quite a bit when I changed gears.
I made this change due to the fact that I had an automotive maintenance morning. You know, get out the ol’ dungarees, put the car up on a jack, undo the oil gasket thingy and drain it out, maybe re-jet the carb, | | By: The Frog Bog

And Π (Pi) or Maxwell's Equations. Everyone knows Π already, it's the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle (22/7) and goes on forever. Then there's Maxwell's Equations; Maxwell grasped the connection between magnetism and electricity and how they create each other. But, like Π, they can never be solved. | | By: Science And Supermodels
