| Papercut Sculptures by Peter Callesen | | 2008-06-17 14:06:52 | | Born in Denmark, Peter Callesen studied at the Arhus School of Architecture and at the Goldsmiths College (London), to name a part of his educational background. One cay say that Callesen is mostly known by his paper scultpures, from A4 size papercuts to large scale works and installations. But he does not stick with paper, Callesen also uses MDF, paint and why not, light bulbs. Many of his works have a common theme, classical fairytales, afterall his from the country of Hans Christian Handersen. Through this, Callesen conveys a union between childwood's fantasies and the reality of adult life. His work has been exhibited at the Artgenda (Hamburg), Shangai Art Museum (China) and The Museum of Religious Art (Denmark). He's also featured in public collections and publications.Callesen is represented at this time by Helene Nyborg Contemporary. | | By: The Art Inquirer | | |

| Art Explained: Sculptures by Sachiko Kodama | | 2008-05-27 10:06:36 | | You probably have seen her art before but I thought I was super interesting to listen to hear talk and the explanation on how these sculptures work.
If it’s so simple why didn’t someone bring out little keychains using these sculptures. It’s just oil and magnetic fields, right?

| The Robot Sculptures of Bennett Robot Works | | 2008-03-30 13:32:33 | |
Inspired by the "futuristic visions" of classic designers Norman Bel Geddes and Raymond Loewy, these unique robotic sculptures were created by Gordon Bennett from discarded materials found in garbage dumps, garage sales, and construction sites.
Each piece is one of a kind, ranging in height from 14 to 25 inches, and comes with a numbered tag to prove its authenticity as a genuine Bennett Robot. The robots are not cheap, with prices starting at $750 and going all the way to $6000. But that has not stopped them from selling like hot cakes.
Visit the official site to see more photographs of these gorgeous robots. The sculptures are on display for public viewing at the City Foundry in Brooklyn, New York.

| Chewing gum sculptures by Maurizio Savini | | 2008-02-11 12:20:38 | | Italian artist Maurizio Savini uses chewing gum as the material for his art and these sculptures are creatively well done. That’s a lot of chewing gums for the size of his sculptures and I wonder if he actually bought those from the supermarkets.

| Weirdest Industrial Sculptures Place in Prague | | 2007-09-25 23:03:00 | | Right at Nadrazi Holesovice station (metro, bus and tram - there are no more options) at Holesovice. There used to be a driver's school. Don't know if it is still here. But I think there's a pub (or bar or club) here now. They are growing these sculptures for years... very successfully. And I lied in the title. This is not the Weirdest Industrial Sculptures Place in Prague now. There's a street exhibition at Andel (also a bus, metro and tram station). There are sculptures made of old computers and various home appliances. They are over 3 metres high and from what I remember they are in the shapes of prehistoric animals. I should go there again and take a picture of them so you can compare which place is weirder. Hope they will not be gone on weekend.PS: I took this shot over a curved tram window, thus the blur in some places. | | By: Prague Daily Photo | | |

| Fountain with Sculptures at Senovazne square | | 2007-08-30 09:57:00 | | Fountain with sculptures at Senovazne square. It's very close to Masarykovo train station and also to Hybernska street. I spent quite some time here ... eating while waiting for my English class at Cambridge Institute Praha (which is in the mentioned Hybernska street). They are great at learning English, the atmosphere among students and teachers is great and it was one of the places I really enjoyed going to. But they are not exactly cheap.Canonet QL17 + Ilford Pan 100 | | By: Prague Daily Photo | | |

| Theo Parrish releases the “Sound Sculptures Vol. 1″ album | | 2007-05-12 15:16:06 | | The Theo Parrish album lands. It’s essentially the next 3×12″ releases from Sound Signature label bundled together in a very nice gatefold sleeve and, in a similar way to “Natural Aspirations”, features his more jazz orientated material. That’s not to say it’s not Housey because it really is.
On this album you’ll find tracks like ‘Second changes’ or the amazing ‘They say’ (both featuring vocals from Monicablaire) or ‘Soul Control’, that have echoes of work once released under ‘The Rotating Assembly’. Furthermore there’s the hardhitting ‘Synthetic flaem’ very much on a minimal chicago tip, tracks like ‘Galactic Traffic’ & ‘Friskie biscuits’ that have the signature offbeat programming and ‘The rink’ which just screams Detroit soul.
Tracklist:
1 Second Chances
2 Flotation Device
3 They Say
4 Second Chances (Instrumental)
5 Friskie Bisc | | By: VIP Club Dance | | |
