    2008-06-29 02:03:00
On other day my husband did eat our early dinner in this “Oyster PJ’s Bar and Seafood Restaurant” here in St. Pete Beach where about 10 minutes away by car from our condominium. The restaurant is a casual dining and offers great, cheap menu prices. My husband loves a dozen of raw oysters and every time we eat in there he order that and fish sandwich. When we eat there, I just order hush puppies, jalapeno poppers and spaghetti for kids (only) (ha-ha). We eat sometimes and make me gain weight and sometimes I feel lazy to cook and I urge my hubby to eat out (lol). I gained about 8 lbs and other clothes that I have right now is not fit for me anymore. The restaurant is very popular and when we get there yesterday for our dinner, the restaurant is packed and well…I can say it is also weekend but even it was about 8pm the restaurant is full and that is a good sign will be stay in business and they have great food. 2008-06-13 07:37:00
Viet Nam will likely miss its US$4.5 billion seafood export target this year, an official of the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) recently announced. A shortage of input materials and limited and high-interest fisheries loans were blamed for the shortfall. Wow! Two posts in one day! He must be getting desperate. He must have something really important to say! That's right. I do.I wish to announce that I have been honored with an interview by Chris Cameron of Angry Seafood for his previously well-regarded Bloggers Speak series.I now join such stellar humor bloggers as:Johnny Virgil - Fifteen Minute LunchRF - Renal FailureFrogster - Frog Bog BlogBrent - The Ominous CommaJeff - View from the CloudWhich all goes to prove that Chris has been kidnapped by aliens.I was surprised and delighted when I got the email from Chris asking me to be interviewed as I did not expect the check I sent him to clear. The format of this interview is a bit different than those done previously, since the other interviewees can actually write funny stuff in short sentences. My interview needed to be split into two parts, no doubt because Chris was effected with the eye strain, back fatigue, and numb fingers that my normal regular readers accept as a matter of co

    2008-02-22 13:04:56
‘TACKY’ is the first word that comes to mind when you first enter the Seafood Market and Restaurant in Sukhumvit 24. First, there’s the garish neon sign declaring “If it swims, we have it!” (which I gotta admit, isn’t actually a bad slogan~!!).   There’s a hint of the enormity of the whole establishment right before you enter – a team of cooks busily preparing dishes outside readies you for the onslaught (it kinda makes you wonder how many GAZILLION customers are there for the place to have this many cooks~!!).   Once you’ve stepped inside, you’ll feel like somebody just punched you on the face due to the sensory overload: the place is bathed in an otherworldly shade of pink neon… there are (fake) humongous fish of various colors, shapes and sizes suspended from the ceiling… and oh did I mention how HUGE the place is~?! Psst... I’d actually videotaped the whole place myself~!! Check it out HERE on my VDO section~!! The Seafood Market and Restaurant

Fork It Over - Steak or Seafood?
    2008-02-12 17:24:00
I've been reading Alan Richman's book, Fork It Over, The Intrepid Adventures of a Professional Eater. It's nothing mind blowing, but it is easy and entertaining reading. It's a compilation of his articles which makes it even better reading for train rides. I only read a few pages at a time.I was just reading his Ten Commandments for Diners, and number 4 reads, " Don't order steak at a seafood restaurant. However, seafood at a steak restaurant is never bad." I thought about this for a while. I don't think I've ever ordered steak at a seafood restaurant. It just seems like common sense to me not to. Then, I thought about seafood at a steak place. I can only think of one instance, since I usually order steak at a steak restaurant. Lon and I shared a Strip Steak and a Seared Tuna dish at Strip House. The fish was fresh but the preparation lacked flavor and seasoning. I'm not sure if Mr. Richman was only referring to freshness/quality of ingredient when he said "never bad" but I don't remem

Having my Christmas dinner at TKK Restaurant, Teluk Jawa (a.k.a. Megah Ria Seafood Village)(N1°28.606' E103°50.728')The meaning of 'TKK' is Tie-Kong-Kia in hokkien (means son of the god)! Of somebody call it Tan-Ku-Ku in hokkien (means long waiting). :)We ordered a few dishes like : Steam prawn, steam sotong (squid), Thai style slice cockle, vegetables and Hot plate Tofu (bean curd).Among all, I love the steam squid very much! The spice added was just marvelous! The environment is relax and not crowded. As you can see, there are two session in the restaurant.....typical seafood restaurant area and the romantic bridge area especially for couples or family.Live seafoods availableThe total cost of the dinner are MYR78.00. Babies can't eat seafood high in mercury
    2007-12-14 23:21:07
I never heard about fish being advised not to eat while pregnant and shouldn't be fed to babies. Well, not until I came to the US that I heard and read about seafood that has high level of mercury. Mercury can be toxic to young children especially babies because it could affect their brain development. However, with my people back home, babies that are not even a year old eat fish, fish that I think has a high level of mercury. I think I was fed with the same fish, but nothing bothered me, nor the kids at home. We eat fish on a daily basis there if we find nothing else to eat. It is weird because here it is advised that fish should be avoided as much as possible. It must be different here because the climate is cold, so maybe the bigger the fish the higher mercury level it has. Anyway, it is just a thought I wanted to share. If you are living in the western country, do you eat fish while pregnant and breastfeeding, and feed your children under 6 years of age fish anyway?

Jimbaran, Bali: Paradise of seafood and sunset
    2007-12-09 11:13:08
If you're stay in Bali and falling in love with seafood, Jimbaran is definitely the perfect answer. Set a lovely dinner on the beach, order some food and drink, enjoy the sunset and the rest of the night.Jimbaran located south of Ngurai Rai Airport, just about 5-10 minutes driving via Bypass Ngurai Rai. On the map it is located between Kuta and Nusa Dua, on the western side of south Bali. This place is more quite compare to Kuta, therefore if shopping is your main priority, Jimbaran is not a good answer. Jimbaran is for seafood and sunset.Sunset in Jimbaran is fabulous. It is a combination between a sunset, a calm beach, romantic restaurant (which is located along a stretch of the beach) with torches after dark and great seafood. Sometime there are some local musicians performing and singing for you, you can also request a song or two. Note that sometime you can also find a villager's boat crossing thehorizon, perfect spot for those of you who love photography. You can find two types of restaurants. The first one is the not so luxurious type of restaurants, located far south of the beach near the bay (the place where the 2005 Bali bombings located). And the second one is the more luxurious type of restaurants, located north of the beach near the airport. I prefer the first type, IMO it's more live and more romantic. The second type is too awkward for me but it's OK too.Jimbaran map taken from http://baliblog.com.Next time I will up load some photos taken September 2007, on one of the not so luxurious type restaurant: Kalang Anyar Cafe, next to Menega Cafe (suffered by the 2005 Bali bombings).

    Saturday Night's Seafood Salad
    2007-10-21 13:15:46
A Saturday night seafood salad where marinated rice is added to make the salad go further. The remaining ingredients are mixed with the rice right before the salad is going to be served.I usually variate this seafood salad recipe depending on what I have on hand, but the rice and the shrimps are always there. On the side: Garlic bread and extra sauce. Video Jug explains on film 4 How To Make Garlic Bread.INGREDIENTS:Serves 4* 3 - 4 dl boiled cold rice* 5 tablespoons oil* 1 1/2 tablespoon white wine vinegar, or lemon juice* 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped* 1 garlic clove, crushed* 1 pinch cayenne pepper* 1 pinch salt* 1/4 head of iceberg lettuce* 500 g shrimps* ab. 400 grams mussels, canned in water* ab. 200 g asparagus, canned* ab. 125 g green peas, frozen and thawed* dillMETHOD:1. Mix oil, vinegar, yellow onion, garlic, salt and cayenne pepper.2. Taste and adjust seasonings.3. Pour the salad dressing over the rice.4. Leave for at least 10 minutes.5. Meanwhile peel the shrimps.6. Finely shred the iceberg lettuce,7. Drain mussels and asparagus.7. Place layers of vegetables, rice and seafood in large bowl.8. Garnish with fresh dill.Extra sauce: 150 g mayonnaise, 2 - 3 tablespoons chili sauce, some lemon juice and finely chopped dill.Seafood is one of my all time favorite food. My last meal request on earth would definitely involve a fresh and good seafood buffé.I happened to find a site on Internet with some last meal request from executions. Reading this list one may wonder what kind of people they were. Very few seem to have lost their appetite. What do you say about "2 dozen scrambled eggs, flour tortillas, french fries and catsup"? Nobody requested a well done steak, cooked for 90 years on each side.http://minareceptsamlingar.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

You can transport seafood in an ice-packed cooler from the store to your home.Fresh Seafood Buying TipsThe first aspect you should consider when buying fresh fish or seafood has to do with the seafood seller/store.Pay attention to the cleanliness, appearance and smell (strong fishyodor is a sign of spoilage) of the local. 2007-07-23 03:03:00
Are you hungry for seafood? I am! Maybe because I'm in Greece, maybe because of the Mediterranean sea and the heat or maybe because I just love seafood, I'm so dying right now for some lobster or shrimps (or some calamari or octopus) by the beach and a damn cold bottle of bear! I guess that's why I'm salivating over this God of Seafood t-shirt by mashPOTATO! Can I have one of these Gods "to go" please?

Great Seafood Restaurant in Tyson's Corner Mall, Virginia
    2007-06-27 18:30:00
While visiting family on the East coast recently, my mom, sister, and I ventured to Tyson's Corner to do a little bridal shopping. For lunch, we decided to check out Coastal Flats, a great seafood restaurant inside the mall. We were pleasantly surprised to find a large porch complete with wooden rocking chairs inside the mall. Coastal Flats is styled like a 1950's seaside beach town. The ambience is great, but the food is even better. Our favorite dish was the Crab Roll. It was a delicious crab cake consisting mainly of lump crab meat. The rolls and butter that accompanied the meal were one of the best parts! The sweet dough tastes good enough to be dessert...but you'll be glad you didn't fill up if you save room for the homemade banana pudding!Coastal Flats is located in McLean, Virginia. (View hours and contact information.) The restaurant was very busy at lunchtime on a weekday. Call ahead or make reservations to shorten your wait. While you're waiting, admire the beautiful beach murals on the walls.

Seafood imports from China raised in untreated sewage
    2007-06-04 16:55:07

China, the leading exporter of seafood to the U.S., is raising most of its fish products in water contaminated with raw sewage and compensating by using dangerous drugs and chemicals, many of which are banned by the Food and Drug Administration. …In China, No. 1 in aquaculture in the world, 3.7 billion tons of sewage is discharged into rivers, lakes and coastal water – some of which are used by the industry. Only 45 percent of China has any sewage-treatment facilities, putting the country behind the rest of Asia...
