Here’s what he says,“Grind black sesame seeds into a meal by using a small coffee grinder. Mix with dark honey into a small ball. Eat one three time a day dipped in rice wine.”Black sesame seeds also provide nutrition and action on the liver, intestines, kidney, and blood. You can also prepare a sesame seeds soup with brown rice. Soak 10 parts of sesame seeds with 1 part brown rice in distilled water After they are soft, about an hour, pour out the water grind them in a small food grinder to produce liquid. | | A Gardener Plants Seeds for the Future | | 2007-11-20 20:45:00 | | There is a man by the name of Catalino Tapia of Redwood City, California, who came to the United States, from Mexico, at age 20 with $6 in his pocket. Over the past 43 years, he has worked as a baker and a machine operator. His education never went beyond 6th grade. However, through hard work he eventually built a successful gardening business. He married and raised two children. One son graduated from Boalt School of Law at UC Berkeley and is now an attorney in Los Angeles. This story is not about this young immigrant’s rise to success, although it easily could have been. It is about a man who sees the inimitable value of education and his philanthropic vision. Mr. Tapia, with his son’s legal help, founded The Bay Area Gardener’s Foundation. It’s purpose: to give college scholarships to low-income students from the Bay area. He is a man of modest means, and from what I gleaned from an interview I recently listened to, of modest personality, as well. He believes “it is his duty to pass along the prosperity he has earned, to draw community members together for a shared goal and to be accountable for the well-being of the next generation.” Hmmm. His Board consists of a dozen other immigrant gardeners and other community members who see the value in helping struggling students take the edge off some of their financial responsibilities by offering funds for books, transportation and other incidental expenses -- costs that may not amount to a lot for some, but for others it is the difference of working an extra job to raise these funds. Any student who has at least 2.5 GPA is eligible, even if he/she is an undocumented alien. Everyone on the Board agrees that, “"no matter what, they're going to have their education. So even though they don't have their papers and even though they might not be able to get a job with their Social Security number, no one will be able to take away their education."The main group that the Foundation has reached so far has been | | By: Minivan Diaries

| | Planting seeds and growing Oak trees | | 2007-07-10 07:55:00 | | Developing the organization.... one skill that a leader needs to learn quickly when getting started is the use of seed planting, you need to be able to sow ideas amongst the team and let them take it from seedling to Oak tree....."Men love to wonder, and that is the seed of science". Ralph Waldo EmersonYou must develop a culture where innovation is a way of life, the leader can prepare the environment, implement support/control systems but for a start up company to survive, it needs to be innovative, flexible, and forward looking."Basic philosophy, spirit and drive of an organization have far more to do with its relative achievements than do technological or economic resources, organizational structure, innovation and timing." Marvin BowerThe leader needs to direct the growth and focus of innovation in the same way you train trees to grow straight, not constraining too much but just enough to give the proper focus to the company."In order to succeed you must fail, so that you know what | | By: Gordon Whyte's Blog of the daily challenges of an | | |
| | Seeds of 10,000 years ago - Discovered | | 2007-06-30 07:00:00 | | Scientists exploring the western slopes of the Andes in northern Peru have found seeds of domesticated squash from almost 10,000 years ago, about twice the age of previously discovered cultivated crops in the region.
The find in Peru and recent research in Mexico, anthropologists say, are evidence that farming developed in parts of the Americas nearly as early as it did in the Middle East, which has been considered the birthplace of the earliest agriculture... | | By: The Flower Expert - Flowers Encyclopedia
| | Seeds | | 2007-06-16 14:37:14 | | Two weeks ago, I received a flower.
Today I woke, rubbed sleep from my eyes, put on my glasses, and the flower had changed. Completely. Its lively pinkness had been ruptured by a burst of frothy white seeds, each fully fitted with feathers for flight– its last gasp of life, its final prayer for rebirth.
I touched the stem, and a single seed fell.
Suddenly I was in a panic, hoping to bring the flower outside without losing any seeds. Who knows? Perhaps one could take root, even here.
But the slightest breath set the seeds floating away to conceal themselves irretrievably in the carpet. Walking across my room, down the hall. Opening the door. Going out onto the porch. The seeds fell.
There were things I had to do. I had yet to eat breakfast or shower, let alone e-mail my piano teacher or practice or pack my bags for the day. Papers were stacking up on my desk, the pile of clothes at the foot of my bed wasn’t getting any smaller, and I needed to clip my n | | By: Circadian Rhythms

| | Destroying weed seeds and soil pathogens | | 2007-04-26 07:00:00 | | Nwipp-NewspapersMustard as a winter crop takes 25 weeks from an autumn sowing to incorporation in early April, or as a summer crop, which takes only 8 weeks. The crop is cut and chopped when in full flower bloom (as this is the most effective stage) and immediately incorporated into the soil. In the presence of water the chopped material produces isothiocyanate gas, which destroys weed seeds and soil pathogens.
The results so far have shown that there are reductions in weed germination at two weeks after incorporation... | | By: The Flower Expert - Flowers Encyclopedia
