Shark-Bite DVD Review: American Gangster -- a drive-by on common sense
    2008-07-13 15:15:19
There’s a scene not too far into “American Gangster” in which the eponymous gangster, Mr. Frank Lucas, played by Denzel Washington, is in Bangkok and outlining his plans to his contact here on how he wants to revolutionize the drug trade in New York. He wants to cut out the middleman and buy directly from the source – in this case, the Kuomintang operating out of the Golden Triangle (Thailand, even then, was known for its OEM work). This, his wide-eyed contact explains, would be impossible. Why getting the heroin at its source would require going into the deepest darkest jungles of Northern Thailand! Sitting with a bottle of Singha in hand, amid the din of Bangkok street life (well the modern day filmed-in-Chiang-Mai representation), Lucas is not to be deterred and delivers one of the movie’s best lines: “I’m in the jungle. Look around. They’re eating roaches and whatever the hell that is.”As fun as this scene and another brief one set in the Vietnam “R and R”-era

    Can you sense the frustration...?
    2008-07-11 03:19:00
Call me naïve. Call me stupid. Call me hopelessly stuck in a distant past. Call me whatever you like. But there I was yesterday, down at the local CD pusher wanting to spend my weekly allowance on the new (2 months old) album Zen Sucker by Larsen & Furious Jane – just to be informed that the album is only available on vinyl and as a digital download (had I been paying attention some of these very fine and highly informative Frekvens posts, I could have saved myself from the embarrassment). Get lost! My turntable is now living its own quite life in the attic, as my wife has once and for all expelled the vinyls from the living room and I still refuse to buy any releases as digital downloads (and back we go to that good old “is music tangible or intangible?” discussion). So what the *explicit swearing* do I do now?+ Fine (which things in my humble opinion certainly aren’t!)UK playmobil faced popsters Play People have uploaded a new track Don’t Come Back to Myspace, and once

Martial Arts Training - Making Sense Of Chaos
    2008-07-08 21:00:00
Martial Arts Training - Making Sense Of Chaos was written by Jeffrey Miller from warrior-concepts-online.com I once had a talk with a student who pointed out the almost insane notion that anyone could think that they could use a preset string of moves (known as a kata, pronounced kah-tah) to handle something as chaotic as a fight. He said it made no sense to him how any master, who really knew what he was talking about, could pass down "the answer" to such an unknown as a fight. He's right. And

The 4.5L Diesel Tundra - Does It Make Sense?
    2008-06-18 09:33:37
For the 2010 model year, the rumor is that Toyota has decided to take the 4.5 liter diesel engine that currently resides in the Australian LandCruiser 200 and shoehorn it into the Tundra. A Sense Of Urgency
    2008-06-14 10:00:00
Matthew 24:14"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."No one besides God knows when Christ will return and the end will come, but I am one of many who believe that we are clearly living in the end times. Many of the signs described in the Bible are happening or have already happened, and it is possible the end could come in our lifetime. This ought to give us a sense of urgency in our attempts to reach out in love to the lost and share the Good News of Christ. Even if the end will not come in our lifetime, our lives are so short and we have such little time here to make a difference in the eternal destiny of others. We need to have a sense of urgency and desire to share Christ with and reach as many lost people as possible. We will be accountable to the Lord for how we have spent our lives (see Romans 14:12), and one of the things we will be accountable for is if we truly followed Jesus and were the "

Why Niche Marketing Makes Sense for Mortgage Professionals
    2008-06-14 02:32:52
If you are currently struggling in your mortgage business or relatively new to the field of loan origination, you might want to consider changing your marketing tactics and concentrating on a specific niche.Niche Marketing is quite simply the process of concentrating on a specific segment of the market, rather than the entire market. You're probably asking: Won't that reduce my mortgage prospects and limit the number of loans that I originate? The answer: When done correctly, absolutely not! In fact...it should not only improve your business...it will reduce your marketing costs as well...which means more bucks in your pocket. So many of the mortgage people I have mentored have literally thrown away valuable marketing dollars in their quest of reaching too broad a market. They had become a "jack of all trades and a master of none." This little cliché has become an everyday figure of speech that describes anyone who is passably competent with various skills...but is not outstandingly br

    Does Depression Treatment Make Sense?
    2008-06-13 01:58:22
by Alex MatisDoes depression treatment make sense? If you ever suffered from depression as a patient or had to deal with depression as someone close to a patient having this mental illness, you most certainly will have had doubts like this in your mind or will have had arguments about this question. It seems that many depression sufferers, especially if they have been hit by this illness recently, have serious doubts about the effectiveness of depression medication. In many cases they can recall stories from patients who did not have success in treating depression via one depression treatment method or another. There are two common misconceptions about depression treatment and modern medicine in general that may lead to such a reaction: 1) If depression treatment xyz did not help this patient it cannot help me either! Not every depression treatment is for everyone. In fact the more avanced our understanding of human genetics and biomedicine in general and of depression medication in pa

    Spiritual Sense
    2008-06-10 10:32:35
By Mehak UppalIn Express India It's a shift in paradigm and philosophy. Faith and reason go hand-hand-in-hand for many of this generation. Precisely why religious practices and beliefs take a back-seat and spirituality takes over when it comes to addressing larger issues and vital ‘inner’ questions. “I found myself unable to relate to any religion. I am driven by the philosophy of good deeds and being honest to myself and that helps me grow and makes me feel complete,’’ reflects 22-year-old Ankur Bansal, an engineer, who is doing his industrial training these days. Bansal like many others of his age and thought, considers himself deeply spiritual. So are religion and spirituality two sides of the same coin or different entities altogether? Paras Kohli, a budding fashion designer thinks aloud. “Religion is like a peel of a fruit. We cannot be stuck with the outer crust. What’s inside is spirituality.” Chanting mantras and meditating regularly gives him peace of mind and

The Basic Sense Of Real Estate
    2008-06-08 22:19:00
Sometimes, some processes take two to tango! The processes could not be finished with an absence of one person. In the world of real estate, there are only two people involved in the process, the buyer and the seller. Whoever gets the most benefits, nobody can tell. But whether it's the buyer or the seller's game, getting involved in real estate business can be a very rewarding feat.By definition, real estate refers to anything that is permanently set on a piece of land such as buildings. The concept of real estate lies on the fact that because of property ownership, real estate has turned out to be the most important theme in the business. And when there is a business, there is money.Nowadays, there are people who buy houses not just because they want to own a home but for financial reasons. Generally, these moneymakers would get a home equity loan from their real estate and then use it as a deposit for another property. Thereafter, he or she will sell the other property at a higher v

Sensabaugh Arrested for Lack of Sense...
    2008-06-05 19:35:57
Jacksonville Safety G. Sensabaugh was arrested May 30th 2008 for reckless driving. He was caught doing wheelies on a motorcycle (he must know Kellen Winslow) and was promptly booked into the local jail. How the Jags managed to keep this quiet for over a week is beyond me. The arrest occured prior to Roger Goodell (commish) making a rule which allows teams to be fined for player misbehavior, so the Jags won't be ponying up any cash. Still, this has to play into any decision the team makes about Sensabaugh. He has now been arrested twice, once for possession of a firearm, and now this. Fool me once, shame on you... But, Fool me twice... shame on me.  I doubt the Jags will tolerate this behavior, not only the arrest, but the complete neglect of his body he showed through his reckless behavior. Teams make investments in players and want to know that they'll take care of themselves and not engander their body. Sensabaugh will really have to "show-up" or he's not only

Best of MP: Doctor Pepper Proves Book Larnin' is No Substitute for Common Sense
    2008-05-27 14:33:02
I've been thinking about doing this for a while, and since I've got a lot of new readers, I figure this is probably a good time. Every other Tuesday until you get sick of it, I'm going to do a "best of the Mattress Police" post. You'll recognize some of them from my book (What? You haven't bought my book? What the hell are you waiting for? Buy it! All the proceeds go to helping a poor ditch digging kid buy an iPod!), but I'm going to throw some surprises in as well. Today's post comes to us from way back in February of aught seven. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed copying and pasting it for you. Dr Pepper Proves Book Larnin' is No Substitute for Common Sense As you know, Dr Pepper is my muse. I therefore took it particularly hard when the marketing wizards at the Dr Pepper company turned out to be no more wizards than, well, than Dr Pepper is a real doctor. Does God have a sense of humor?
    2008-05-14 11:50:26
By Father Lou Guntzelman, who is a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Rarely do I see pictures of Christ with a smile, much less a hearty laugh. Religious goods stores say they don't sell. Why? Do such pictures go against childish stereotypes? Are we uncomfortable associating strong positive feelings with God - permitting only those of anger, vengeance or suffering? Why does spirituality always have a sober face? Do we think a God with a sense of humor wouldn't be attuned to our sufferings? In the musical "Annie," Mrs. Hannigan is a den mother for young girls in an orphanage. If she hears laughter from the girls' dormitory, she bursts in angrily and asks, "Do I hear happiness in here?" - Is she an image of God?Nietzsche said, "If they want me to believe in their redeemer, then they'd better look more like they're redeemed." He said a Christian's functional Christ is a black scarecrow that sits gloomily on the tree of life and frightens off a whole range of fluttering joys

Does this make sense? Canadian Gov't pays farmers to kill 150,000 pigs
    2008-05-09 18:39:26
The pork industry is on the verge of collapse in Canada and so the government will be paying $50 million to kill off 150,000 pigs. Each farmer who wants to participate must kill off an entire breeding barn of pigs and agree not to restock the barn for three years. About 25% of the meat will go to food banks; none will enter the market.Besides the rising price of feed, new rules from the U.S. which will require "Country of Origin" labeling is reducing the demand for Canadian pork from American companies.Farmers are encouraged to send their iigs to euthanizing centers, although nothing prevents the pigs from being killed on the farm. Article at Canadian Press. How about if the government helps these farmers transition to crops that will always be needed, that helps the environment by reducing methane, and that doesn't require the taking of a life?Atom

[Video] Cleve Backster - Plants Can Sense Human Intention
    2008-05-08 11:35:06
There is a video at youtube with the title "Cleve Baxter - Plants can sense human intention". The info of the video states:This is a video of Cleve Baxter, a polygraph scientist who did the controversial experiment with plants and animal cells. In the 60s, he decided on impulse to attach his polygraph electrodes to the now-famous dracaena in his office, then water the plant and see if the leaves responded (p. 4). Finding that the plant indeed reacted to this event, he decided to see what would happen if he threatened it, and formed in his mind the idea of lighting a match to the leaf where the electrodes were attached. And that was when something happened that forever changed Baxter's life and ours. For the plant didn't wait for him to light the match. It reacted to his thoughts!Through further research, Baxter found that it was his intent, and not merely the thought itself, that brought about this reaction. He also discovered that plants were aware of each other, mourned the death of an

    Making sense of French wines
    2008-05-06 04:38:00
Chablis - This is a region in northern Burgundy well known for Chardonnay. It's a restrained, elegant and minerally style of wine. Pouilly-Fuissé - Is another style of Chardonnay, from central Burgundy. Sancerre - Situated in the eastern Loire valley, the wines are mainly Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. While not as aromatic as New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, the dry minerally texture of Sancerre makes it an ideal food wine. Pouilly-Fumé - Another wine made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape, except from another part of the Loire. Champagne - Made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. The wines are often blended with different ratios of each grape and some - such as Blanc de Blanc are made from 100 per cent Chardonnay. Alsace - Very close to the German border, this is the cooler climate aromatics region of France where stunning Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris is made. Cotes du Rhone - A warm region in the south of France known for more robust, higher alcohol wines. The main

Why McKelvin to Buffalo Makes Sense
    2008-04-30 14:44:56
Was McKelvin a "surprise" pick on draft day? (Photo Source) Anybody who reads this blog on a regular basis knows that I was a receiver guy.  When it came to the Buffalo Bills and our pre-draft preparations, I was dead set in my opinion: the Bills had to draft a wide receiver.  Clearly, this past weekend, that did not come to fruition, as the team's top draft pick was not a receiver, but cornerback Leodis McKelvin.  As disappointed as I was that the pick was not a wideout (note: that disappointment was quelled after our second-round pick), I saw the logic in the McKelvin selection.  Good player, elite potential, and a position of need.  Nothing wrong with that. Yet there is still a contingent of Bills fans out there that believes the McKelvin selection was a poor one - and today, Anthony Bialy became their ringleader.  This contingent is a small one, but some of their concerns deserve to be addressed this afternoon.  Since Bialy is the ringleader -

    I Hope It Makes Sense
    2008-04-08 10:45:00
I tried to get back into school yesterday, I really did, but the incompetence of the university system that caused me to run screaming fifteen years ago is still very much alive, well, and still in complete control. No matter who you speak to and no matter what their title may be, I can guarantee you that any information you receive from that person, while it may be 100% correct at the time of their telling you, will become 100% wrong by the time you try to act upon it, no matter how fast you try to act. I am convinced the purpose of the university system is not so much to educate a person, but to prepare them for the endless and mind numbing world of bureaucracy they are about to enter into. I am a CDO (or college drop-out) and have felt the sting of my lack of formal education, particularly since I began blogging and realized how few of the grammatical laws I actually remember. It bothers me greatly considering how many actual writers read this blog, and I decided it was time to go a

A mock draft that makes sense
    2008-04-07 06:57:44
I love the work the folks at DraftTek do heading into the draft each season. DraftTek uses a computer program that factors in team needs, schemes and existing personnel in formulating a full seven-round mock draft. One of the great things about the mock is it compares the actual selection to a player's projected value, giving you some idea whether the pick is a 'reach' or a 'value' selection. Here are the players who ended up with the Giants in DraftTek's latest mock, held April 5. Round 1 -- Kenny Phillips, S, Miami (+0/Value) Round 2 -- Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska (-4/Reach) Round 3 -- Dwight Lowery, CB, San Jose State (-10/Reach) Round 4 -- Andre Fluellen, DT, Florida State (+4/Value) Round 5 -- Arman Shields, WR, Richmond (+16/Value) Round 6 (194) -- Vince Hall, ILB, Virginia Tech (+15/Value) Round 6 (198) -- Tyson DeVree, TE, Colorado (+4/Value) Round 6 (199) -- Curtis Johnson, OLB, Clark Atlanta (-2/Reach) I actually like this mock quite a bit. (Also I dont have a lot of time at the moment as I am working more on my new blog Family History for Beginners - feel free to drop in:-)I appreciate that not everyone is going to share my sense of humour, but I hope that you enjoy it. I only post what makes me laugh personally. It's all fairly harmless stuff, with only the odd joke that may not be in the best possible taste. I will continue to post anything I think will raise a smile among my readers and hope you continue to enjoy them.

    2008-04-03 10:33:59
Harvey would solidify a strong D-Line (Gator Boosters) The Buffalo Bills need a wide receiver. The Buffalo Bills need a cornerback. The Buffalo Bills need a tight end, a center and a strong safety. We all understand what the Buffalo Bills are most likely to target heading into the 2008 NFL Draft. Yet we also know that in two years of drafting, the Bills have been known to pull some surprise selections. Safety Donte Whitner and quarterback Trent Edwards were among the most surprising selections that the team has made. So while I've been trying to prepare myself for the inevitable selection of a wide receiver with the Bills' first pick - a move I still feel strongly will occur in late April - the Buffalo Rumblings community, led by a vocal contingent of intelligent football fans, have been promoting what many deem an unlikely draft selection. I like to call them the "Derrick Harvey Contingent". I'm here to tell you this morning that while I am not part of t

Story #71: "It doesn't make any sense..."
    2008-03-31 15:39:00
(Via Jennifer Curtis)I never really bought the whole "god" thing. From an early age my family went to mass on special occasions, or to participate in family functions. My mother and father only took us to church out of some weird traditional obligation, and the first memories of youth services were of choreographed song and dances with oppressive themes like spelling out the word "obey" and lame music. Around 13 or so my mother threatened me with private catholic school and I told her I'd drop out if she did (there were no music programs in this private school). When I reached high school I made friends with a bunch of nice girls who all attended a Methodist church across the street from my house. Since it was right next door, and all my friends went there and my parents supported me in this, I went regularly. The people there were all very nice and helped the community out quite a bit, but I never felt any different than before. I never experienced any presence in my life, nothing got

Just the other day, international supers tar chef Daniel Boulud was in town cooking a lunch rich with scallops, truffles and crispy roast piglet."Coming to Vancouver, I am very intimidated. And a little scared, too," says Mr. Boulud, who was offering local taste-makers a nibble of his first Canadian venture, DB Bistro Moderne Vancouver, which will open here in July. "This city is very vibrant with energy around food."You could say this city is very vibrant with energy around everything these days.

Just discovered: the brain's 'sixth sense' for calories
    2008-03-27 09:38:14
The brain can sense the calories in food, independent of the taste mechanism, researchers have found in studies with mice. Their finding that the brain’s reward system is switched on by this “sixth sense” machinery could have implications for understanding the causes of obesity. For example, the findings suggest why high-fructose corn syrup, widely used as a sweetener in foods, might contribute to obesity. read more

Just to share with you all a very interesting article about "A common sense approach to Internet safety". It will give you a clear overview on how hard others are working to keep themselves safe online and what tools are recommended to use to protect yourselves from a changing internet world. Here is the full detail of the article.Over the years, we've built tools and offered resources to help kids and families stay safe online. Our SafeSearch feature, for example, helps filter explicit content from search results. We've also been involved in a variety of local initiatives to educate families about how to stay safe while surfing the web. Here are a few highlights: In the U.S., we've worked with Common Sense Media to promote awareness about online safety and have donated hardware and software to improve the ability of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to combat child exploitation. His words, not mine. But I like 'em. Here you go. He addresses his eventual home run totals, and SO much more..."Just another milestone that I'm going to accomplish," Ramírez said before the Red Sox' 6-5 exhibition win over the Hanshin Tigers Saturday, of reaching 500 home runs. "But my train doesn't stop there. Six hundred. I want to play because I love the game. If I play six more years, why not? I'm pretty sure I'm going to reach it."If my body feels good, I'm going to keep playing. Why stop? You love the game, why you've got to stop? Age is just a number."Ramírez, who will be 36 in May, has said this spring that he is not just hoping but expecting the Red Sox to pick up both options on his contract, each for a year at $20 million. "They're not stupid," Ramírez said. "They know. They know I can play and I'm ready. That's it. I'm going to get the two options, then I'm going to get a four-year deal. I'm just going to go and get it."Peter here. Sir Manny said it, and I posted it. Th

Why it does not make sense to make historical movies in India
    2008-03-14 07:26:50
We have seen it in Asoka. We have seen it in Rising-Mangal Pandey. We saw it happening all over again in Jodhaa Akbar. No doubt, Jodhaa Akbar was a well made movie, albeit a long length. But then historically themed movies never do the best business in India, barring Mughal-e-Azam of yesteryears. Historical movies in India are always embroiled in some sort of controversy. It has been always said that negative publicity is good publicity but it ain’t that good when people pull the movie down from the theatres and do not allow it to release under any cost. The mindset with historical movies is that youngsters are plain bored with historical stories and the older members of the populace always find something odd and conflicting in the story. While the younger generation hardly gives a damn, the older lots are generally the first ones to scream “history is distorted, facts are convoluted”. Since historical facts cannot be readily and comprehensively verified, it is juicy fodder fo

Carrier sense multiple access with collision detection
    2008-03-10 00:42:37
Carrier Sense Multiple Access With Collision Detection (CSMA/CD), in computer networking, is a network control protocol in which * a carrier sensing scheme is used. * a transmitting data station that detects another signal while transmitting a frame, stops transmitting that frame, transmits a jam signal, and then waits for a random time interval (known as "backoff delay" and determined using the truncated binary exponential backoff algorithm) before trying to send that frame again.CSMA/CD is a modification of pure Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA).Collision detection is used to improve CSMA performance by terminating transmission as soon as a collision is detected, and reducing the probability of a second collision on retry. Methods for collision detection are media dependent, but on an electrical bus such as Ethernet, collisions can be detected by comparing transmitted data with received data. If they differ, another transmitter is overlaying the first transmitter's signal (a

    Write Back Weekend "Making Sense"

So here I am with the long overdue response to the week before last's TITMT question. I am pretty much back to normal in terms of my health, except for a stubborn, lingering cough I can't seem to get rid of. But enough about that. The question in question was all about your senses, your hits and your misses. Most FavoritesThe things you are about to read about qualify as my most favorite in some way, shape or form. As with anything else, I'm sure the list is a lot longer than this, but it's a start anyhow.Favorite TasteOf course my favorite taste depends on the mood I'm in, but overall I prefer salty to sweet. I'm not really a typical dessert type person. I next to never would choose a piece of candy over a raw vegetable. I can't really tell you why, it's just how I roll. Unless of course it's (cover your ears, or eyes as the case may be, men) my time of the month.Favorite SmellsI can go in two different directions with this one. I have always loved the smell of the laundry detergent ais

Seven Financial 'Rules-of-Thumb' That Make Little Sense
    2008-02-09 11:00:00
by Chuck JaffeWith the stock market gyrating like a belly-dancer on speed and the economy seemingly running on empty, many consumers are wondering if the tried-and-true tenets of investing, spending and saving still work. The problem is that the rules-of-thumb that many people want to try aren't necessarily true. In fact, while many common financial concepts start with good intentions, they are frequently misquoted, misguided or simply misleading, regardless of the market conditions. That shouldn't be entirely surprising, given the generic nature of most broad guidelines. The late Lynn Hopewell, a sage financial adviser and former editor of The Journal of Financial Planning, once noted that "Rules-of-thumb are for people who want to decide things without thinking about them."If you think about the rules-of-thumb, however, it becomes clear that many of them don't make a whole lot of sense. For proof, consider these 10 "rules" that people commonly apply to their finances:1. Sub

Making Sense of the Shaq Trade
    2008-02-09 09:06:00
On the surface, this trade appears to make little sense for the Phoenix Suns, who are one of the top contenders in the Western Conference. The Suns traded away one of their best players in Shawn Marion for an over-the-hill center in Shaquielle O'Neal. Marion is an almost perfect fit in their fast break system, while Shaq is much more suited toward half court sets. However, Phoenix has proven over time to be a pretty smart franchise in terms of drafting, and player personnel so it would be premature to crucify GM Steve Kerr. Despite my confidence in the Suns front office, I am still pondering why they pulled the trigger on this deal. Before this deal happened on Wednesday, there were a lot of rumors that Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire were not getting along all that well. Over the past year or two, Marion has made it clear that he feels underappreciated to the point in which he even requested a trade in October. The change from Marion to Shaq, who is regarded as a great locker room pr

    Absolute Sense of Smell
    2008-01-15 13:19:39
A blind man walks into a restaurant and sits down. The waiter, who is also the owner, walks up to the blind man and hands him a menu."I'm sorry, sir, but I am blind and can't read the menu. Just bring me a dirty fork from a previous customer. I'll smell it and order from there."A little confused, the owner walks over to the dirty dish pile and picks up a greasy fork. He returns to the blind man's table and hands it to him. The blind man puts the fork to his nose and takes in a deep breath."Ah, yes, that's what I'll have - meatloaf and mashed potatoes."Unbelievable, the owner thinks as he walks towards the kitchen. The cook happens to be the owner's wife. He tells her what had just happened. The blind man eats his meal and leaves.Several days later, the blind man returns and the owner mistakenly brings him a menu again."Sir, remember me? I'm the blind man.""I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you. I'll go get you a dirty fork."The owner retrieves a dirty fork and brings it to the blind man. After another deep breath, the blind man says, "That smells great. I'll take the macaroni and cheese with broccoli."Walking away in disbelief, the owner thinks the blind man is screwing around with him and tells his wife that the next time the blind man comes in he's going to test him.The blind man eats and leaves. He returns the following week, but this time the owner sees him coming and runs to the kitchen. He tells his wife, "Mary, rub this fork on your panties before I take it to the blind man."Mary complies and hands her husband the fork. As the blind man walks in and sits down, the owner is ready and waiting."Good afternoon, sir, this time I remembered you and I already have the fork ready for you."The blind man puts the fork to his nose, takes a deep whiff, and says, "Hey I didn't know that Mary worked here..."

    Common Sense Anew: Leadership
    2008-01-13 18:33:09
    The following entry is from Common Sense Anew:In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince Whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people. US Declaration of Independence LEADERSHIP With all the problems in society today, we have to question the effectiveness of our leaders and their ability to lead. Are they true leaders? Just because someone is in charge does not necessarily mean he or she is a leader. Leaders take society in a positive direction. We have been taken nowhere by people who resemble rulers. They couldn't care less about moving society forward; their motives are purely selfish. Rulers are not interested in leading, they just want to be in charge and have the power that comes with position. Rulers seize any opportunity to grab more power.Leaders have a great respect for power. Leaders are able to govern with minimal power. Leaders understand that it is not the power that makes someone a leader. If we are to save our democracy, we need leaders, not more rulers. A ruler cannot lead a democracy, and a leader will never rule a democracy. We need to learn and understand the difference between leaders and rulers, and what they represent. To help, I wrote the following piece, titled "Leaders and Rulers."Leaders and RulersPeople will follow a leader because they want to; people follow a ruler because they have to.Leaders place people's needs before people's wants; rulers place people's wants before people's needs.Leaders create a society of willingness to help; rulers cause a society of unwillingness to help.Leaders create an atmosphere of encouragement; rulers cause an atmosphere of discouragement.Leaders place their needs with the people's needs; rulers place their needs far above everyone.Leaders take responsibility for their mistakes;

Making Sense of the types of insurance .If you want to get yourself, your car, your home or even your pet insurance, you will have to spend a lot of effort. This is certainly not an easy task and you could get sucked into the many varieties of insurance that are available. Insurance comes in so many varieties that you can cover almost anything for any eventuality, which means that there are enough types around you to take a look at.In many countries, you will not be able to take your car on the road, unless you have invested in an insurance policy. The insurance generally covers against damage to the vehicle itself, and is an absolute necessity for every driver in the United States or the United Kingdom. If someone is injured in an accident, however, the basic automobile insurance will not provide compensation. The accident and disability insurance are two ways in which you can cover for the injured and eligible for compensation, in one form or another to really up to the fact that you

What is the meaning of Islam in a general sense?
    2007-12-04 12:29:00
What is the meaning of Islam in a general sense? The Qur’an uses din, usually translated as “religion,” in different contexts with various meanings, of which the most important and common are: judging, rewarding, punishing (1:4, 51:6, 82:18-19, 37:53, 56:86); way, law, constitution (12:76); penal law (24:2); the collection of moral, spiritual, and worldly principles, system, way of conduct (33:5, 40:26); servanthood, obedience (16:52); and peace and order (8:39).General Islamic BeliefsWith Islam, God completed the religion He revealed and chose for humanity (5:3). Literally, Islam means submission, peace, and salvation. In its most fundamental aspect, Islam is epitomized in the most frequently recited of all Qur’anic phrases, the Basmala—In the name of God, the Merciful (al-Rahman), the Compassionate (al-Rahim). Both words are related to the quality of rahma (mercy and compassion). God manifests Himself through His absolute, all-inclusive Mercy and Compassion, and Islam is founded upon that affirmation. The Qur’an calls Prophet Muhammad’s mission a mercy for all the worlds, for God sent him to spread Islam to all of humanity.MonotheismIslam is uncompromisingly monotheistic, for its theology begins and ends with God’s Unity (tawhid). Given this, the universe is seen as an integral whole of interrelated and cooperative parts in which a splendid coordination, harmony, and order is displayed both throughout the universe and within each living organism. This harmony and order come from the Unity of the One Who created them and Who is absolute, without partner, peer, or like. The universe operates according to the laws God established for it, and therefore is literally Muslim—absolutely submitted to God. Thus its operations are stable, orderly, and harmonious.HumanityGod created the universe so that He could be known and recognized in all His Names and Attributes, and therefore His creation includes one creature with free will: man. Of all creatures, only

A stable government, economic growth and investor-friendly laws have led to dramatic increases in real estate values. Will values continue to rise as sharply in the future? Only time will tell. However, there are many factors that contribute to the theory that foreign markets will offer greater real estate and business investment opportunity in the coming years, including:1. U.S. ECONOMYIf you haven’t picked up a newspaper recently, you might not realize that the U.S. is dealing with extreme volatility in the financial markets as a result of the subprime mortgage meltdown. Underlying it all are some serious issues with the U.S. economy that may dramatically limit the growth potential of U.S. real estate over the next 10 years.Current U.S. credit crisis Radical changes in loan-to-value percentages, debt-to-income ratios and other key loan qualifiers have dramatically changed the scope of U.S. mortgages. This led to a dramatic increase in U.S. real estate values between 2001 to 2006, as more individuals than ever were able to qualify to purchase one or more homes. Homeownership rates reached a 40-year peak of 67 to 69 percent during those years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. What’s in store for the market remains to be seen, but it appears that values in many U.S. markets will continue to have corrections as reductions in lending programs and credit reduce buyer demand.U.S. trade deficit Every year we continue to expand our trade deficit. In essence, we spend more than we make—to the tune of $817.3 billion, the 2006 U.S. trade deficit, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Common sense will tell you that if you spend more than you make, at some point you have to pay for it. Many economists argue that this point is moot because we can print as many dollars as we want. Their proposed solution would be to devalue the U.S. currency. This would bring benefit

The article was written by Jeff Burt and was titled, Expert: U.S. Attack on Iran Would Have Terrible Consequences. Now technically, to me, it would make sense to disable Iran's nuclear programs before they use it. It's really not a matter of IF they'd use it, but WHEN and/or WHERE. I really am not too concerned about Israel, as they could pretty much decimate the middle east on their own if it really came down to it. My actual concern is what Iran would do to the other nations in the area that might refuse to "fall in step" with Iran's ideals once Iran gains nuclear weapons. And if you've read a couple of my past articles, that may not be far off.But Burt's article brings to bear, an interesting perspective. According to Martin van Creveld, a professor of military history and strategy at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Iran is militarily impotent, and there is l
