    asakusa cat shrine 今戸神社
    2008-04-10 00:00:00
a couple prays at a temple for good luck (especially for good fortune in love life) at imado-jinjya (今戸神社) in asakusa. (actually, i really liked this image because it seems a "mirror" in a way, with one cat waving to the human couple, almost beckoning to them; makes me kind of want to wave back.)

    Ghostly Shrine in Sukhumvit~!!
    2008-03-04 08:17:20
Nang Nak is perhaps the most famous Thai ghost EVER. Her immortal, blood-soaked story has kept countless Thai children awake at night (and behaving well – if not, their mothers threatened Nang Nak’s ghost would come and eat their brains aliiiive~!!). While historical proof is hard to come by, the Thais still believe in Nang Nak, even until today. In fact, she has her own shrine in Sukhumvit (pics of the shrine are below this long-winded explanation) and is worshipped as a protector of military conscripts and bringer of good luck (especially winning lottery numbers). The legendary tragic story of Nang Nak has been retold many times in the Thai media (TV dramas, DVDs, comic books, you name it~!!), most famously in the 1999 movie titled “Nang Nak” directed by Nonzee Nimibutr (pictured left). The story is always quite similar: sometime between the 18th and 19th century Siam (today's Thailand), a beautiful young woman named Nak married a young man named Mak. They lived peaceful

1st Sufi Saint and Muslim Shrine of America
    2008-03-01 03:48:13
"You must place your faith in the one indestructible, imperishable God. To do this, you must stop depending on the kings, forces, and armies within you. When you give up all this and stand defenseless and alone, saying, O God, it is all Your will! The sheikh (spiritual guide) will stand by your side. It is only when you surrender to God that the sheikh, who is the explaining wisdom of the Qutbiyyat (Divine Gnosis, Primordial Buddha nature) which guides you on the path of God, will come to stand by your side. 'Son' he will say, 'Now you are ready. Come, let us go'." - Bawa MuhaiyaddeenSome 40 miles from Philadelphia, among the rolling hills and tall trees of Chester County, is a Mazar (a shrine), the resting place of Muhammad Raheem Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, the Sufi saint and founder of the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship, who left his physical body in 1986.This video is a 2 part series for Voice of America explores this Muslim shrine, the first in the United States. Since its dedication it has

ueno park, on the northeastern part of the yamanote line in tokyo. in springtime, so many people come here to drink sake under the cherry blossoms and talk about whatever is on their mind.. later on in the year, the lotus flowers blossom, filling the air with a delicate scent. in late fall and early winter, their dried leaves still fill the ponds where they grow

    The Great One’s Shrine

This sweet ass pictures of Wade’s Hall of Fame plaque was sent in by loyal reader T. Lewis. He had this to say about the awe inspiring experience. Gentlemen, I just visited the Baseball Hall of Fame with my dad and brother. I snapped this shot of the Wade Boggs plaque when I was there! All I could think of was an ice cold, delicious and nutritious Miller Lite (or 90 of them)! This picture is so good that I am giving it a spot in the sidebar. Suspected al-Qaida bombers toppled the towering minarets of Samarra's revered Shiite shrine
    2007-06-14 17:50:00
The attack stoked fears of an upsurge in intra-Muslim violence. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government rushed to contain Shiite wrath against Sunnis, clamping a curfew on Baghdad and asking for U.S. troop reinforcements in Samarra, 95 kilometers (60 miles) north of here, and for a heightened U.S. military alert in the capital. But sketchy reports of sectarian strife began to come in: Police told of at least four Sunni mosques in Baghdad and south of here attacked by arsonists and bombers, and of a smaller Shiite shrine bombed north of here.
