| | Yanks shutout by Reds 6-0 | | 2008-06-21 15:36:00 | | Yanks have lost two straight to the Cinncinati Reds (35-41) and both could have been won if it wasn't for all these errors and missed opportunities.ON THE MOUND:Dan Giese however, was one bright spot. He allowed 3 runs, all unearned, on 4 hits in 6.2 IP, while striking out 5 and walking none. He was one strike away from getting out of the 7th without giving up a run, but he left an 0-2 pitch right down the middle and Edwin Encarnacion hit a 2-run single, and that was all. Regardless, Giese pitched a very good game.Jose Veras had been pitching very well lately, but he got roughed up a bit today. He relieved Giese after the Encarnacion single, and gave up a 2-run homer to Corey Patterson. He then retired the next batter he faced to end the 7th.Billy Traber came in to the game in the 8th, and did not pitch well. He allowed two hit and 2 ER in .1 innings pitched.Ross Ohlendorf gave up 2 hits, and allowed two inherited runners to score in his .2 innings of work.Latroy Hawkins tossed a score... | | By: The Evil Empire | | |
| | Shutout by Mr. Complete Game | | 2008-06-07 02:09:33 | | Game Sixty-Two - Cubs 0 Dodgers 3
WP - Hiroki Kuroda (3-5) LP - Sean Gallagher (3-2) Save - None
Hiroki Kuroda earned the first complete game shutout of his Major League career with a dominating performance against the Cubs. Kuroda completed 74 games in 151 career starts in Japan and showed the Cubs how he earned the nickname 'Mr. Complete Game' during his career in Japan. Kuroda shutout the Cubs' offense with pinpoint control and Lou Piniella's crew managed only 4 hits, all singles. Kuroda recorded 11 strikeouts, a Major League career high, without a walk.
The Cubs only scoring opportunity came in the 4th but a bad call at 1st base by Derryl Cousins ended the inning. With the Cubs down 1-0, Ryan Theriot led off with a single to right, Derrek Lee reached on an infield single and Theriot advanced to 3rd on a throwing error by Kuroda. With runners on 1st and 3rd and no outs, Kuroda struck out Aramis Ramirez and Kosuke Fukudome appeared to tie the game on a fielder's choice. But Cousins... | | By: Chicago Cubs Online

| Shutout innings | | 2008-02-22 05:17:01 | | I’m sure this stat is available elsewhere, but I hadn’t paid much attention if it was until today. Bill James Online began today and for the cheap monthly rate of $3 you get access to lots of things to make it well worth the money. There are a bunch of articles and columns already up on the site and quite a few stats that I’ve enjoyed browsing through some today. A little bit ago I was taking a look at the Inning Analysis stat which includes such stats as: one-run innings, two-run innings (and forward), how many times the first man in an inning reached base, the runs scored in those innings, 1-2-3 innings, 10-pitch or fewer innings, 20 or more pitches in an inning and the title of this post shutout innings.
It drew my attention because I was taking a look at Carlos Zambrano (2007) and saw that of the 216.1 IP he threw, 172 of those innings no runs scored. That’s 79.5% of the overall innings pitched. Zambrano did start 226 innings (he... | | By: Another Cubs Blog
| | Winter Wonderland Ends in Browns 8-0 Shutout of Bills | | 2007-12-16 20:15:07 | | On one of the most frightful weather days in NFL history, all the Cleveland Browns needed was Phil Dawson’s foot, as well as a little help from Mother Nature to take a huge step towards the NFL Playoffs. With a driving snowstorm stopping both teams, the Browns beat the Buffalo Bills 8-0, and with it [...]... | | By: NFL GridIron Gab | | |
| | Kason Gabbard Loses Rangers Debut In 5-0 Shutout | | 2007-08-03 07:30:46 | | Well, at least Texas still won the series.
Kason Gabbard pitched decently, but a lack of run support spoiled his Rangers debut, as Texas was shut out on Thursday afternoon by the Indians, 5-0.
Gabbard allowed three runs in 5.2 innings of work, while giving up eight hits and a walk and striking out four. He boasted a very impressive 12-1 ground-to-fly ball ratio on the day, but three wild pitches, a passed ball and a HBP sort of lessened the benefit of all those ground balls. Basically, he was a lot more wild than his one walk indicated, as he also threw just 57 of his 95 pitches for strikes.
Kason’s stuff was basically as advertised; MLB Gameday showed his fastball velocity topping out at around 89 MPH, while the FSN radar gun showed at least one 92 MPH reading; however, I’m more inclined to believe MLB’s radar gun readings.
Gabbard’s curve worked in the mid-70’s for the most part, and while his breaking pitches did indeed seem to be above-average as far a... | | By: Baseball Time in Arlington

| DiNardo Puzzles Rangers In 6-0 Shutout | | 2007-07-19 09:25:18 | | Back on May 29th, Oakland’s Lenny DiNardo gave up just one earned run in 5.1 innings to the Rangers back in Arlington.
Unfortunately for DiNardo, he also surrendered three unearned runs, courtesy of fielding errors committed by Shannon Stewart and himself in a disasterous 6th inning. Texas would go on to win that game, 4-0.
On Wednesday afternoon, Lenny got his revenge.
DiNardo pitched seven innings of shutout baseball against Texas, allowing just three hits in perhaps the most dominant outing of his major league career. He only needed 84 pitches to get through those seven innings, and you can sum up the Rangers offense on Wednesday in one word: nonexistent. Then again, Texas was in trouble the moment Ron Washington turned in his lineup card - with Adam Melhuse batting fifth. Ugh.
Kevin Millwood suffered a similiar fate to that of DiNardo during his May 29th outing, as Millwood gave up four runs (only one of which was earned) during a brutal 2nd inning. With men on 1st and 2nd an... | | By: Baseball Time in Arlington
| | | The Marquis de Shutout | | 2007-05-10 08:11:06 | | (Yeah I got a million of those for the rest of the year for Marquis)
If you’re a fan of the pitching duel, last night’s game may well have been the highlight of the season. If Chicago-native Tom Gorzelanny could have a mulligan after the leadoff home run to Soriano, we could have been looking at another 15 inning affair. The good news this time would have been that our bullpen would have been plenty rested as Marquis cruised through 9 innings and 30 batters including the first five innings of perfection. All this on a 109 pitches, 72 of which were strikes, in other words about 5 innings for Zambrano.
