| | | Bring on Sleep Deprivation | | 2007-09-02 04:05:46 | | I admit I’m not getting sufficient sleep ever since I had my daughter. When she wakes up, I have to wake up. Surprisingly, I’m not complaining. When you see her smile or even cry at waking up, your heart melts instantly. You’d know it’s worth your giving up of 3 hours of that supposed 8-hour necessary sleep. Also, I’m losing out sleep to the Internet. Again, I’m not to complain about this. I believe I’ve utilized the World Wide Web responsibly. ;-) But lacking a decent sleep has the tendency to bring good news to me. I remember when I was still working at a learning center. I used to not get enough sleep, job and party-going related. Hehe. I used to report to work at 9 in the morning and be out by 8pm and go party until 2 or 3 in the morning. Then I had to wake up at 7 to report to work by 9am. Despite the lack of sleep, my job requires me to be energetic around with the kids and so the sleepyhead in me didn’t show at all. One day, Ms. Jingle, my manager then, gave me one of the best flattering remarks. She said my eyes looked particularly pretty during one of those sleepless days. She was surprised at the reason why. :hide: Not to flatter myself but I noticed my eyes since then. True, lack of sleep tames my eyes’ tenacity. I admit my eyes pierce so strongly. So when I’m sleepless, the drooping does them well. Moreover, I remembered my boardmate/friend Tata insisted I wore eyeliners after hours of trying to fill up my sleep deprivation. My sister had to assure her I wasn’t and that it was natural so as to stop Tata from keeping me wiping my eyes out . Haha. And just this early morning while holding up my daughter, still feeling a bit woozy because the little to took the route of an early bird, my husband paid me a compliment. He said, “You look a lot like Princess Di… when you’re sleepy. “ Oh well. To all of you reading this entry, take this with full understanding that, I lack sleep. | | Texting Causes Sleep Deprivation In Teens | | 2007-05-28 10:30:58 | |
Getting teens away from the cellphone is quite a battle for parents. Now according to a new study most teens suffer from sleep deprivation solely because of late night text messaging.
Text-messaging is contributing to sleep deprivation, said Cora Collette Breuner, a pediatrician at Children’s Hospital.“Most kids go to sleep with their phone plugged in right by their heads,” Breuner said. Every ping of an incoming message is a temptation to pick up the phone.”
This is backed up by a recent survey by Teenage Research Unlimited whose findings say that most teens communicate with their friends between midnight and 5 a.m. via cell phone or texting.

| | Sleep Deprivation Leads To Visual Impairment | | 2007-05-24 12:35:27 | |
A study led by Dr. Michael Chee, a neuroscientist at the National University of Singapore Graduate Medical School shows that sleep deprivation leads to temporary visual impairment!
“When people are sleep-deprived, they may not be seeing what they think they should be seeing, and it appears that this is what contributes to memory declines following sleep deprivation,” said Dr. Michael Chee
“We generally think of memory decline as a result of faulty storage of information,” Chee said. “However, if the information is not properly handled by the visual system, either as a result of a failure to direct attention appropriately or a failure of visual areas (of the brain) to process what is seen, you can forget about the later stages of information consolidation and storage.”
