| New Zealand’s snow the place to go for Aussie travellers | | 2008-06-11 02:50:00 | | New Zealand gets nearly a quarter of its annual tourism income from Australian holiday-makers, according to the Dominion Post. Every year, the ski fields welcome 20 per cent more visitors from Australia, amounting to 70,000 people last year. Australians are flocking to the slopes of New Zealand year after year because of the “much better, much more reliable skiing”, claims Matthew Hassan, a Westpac senior economist. And with the great exchange rate and another season looking packed with snowfalls, the influx of holiday-makers to New Zealand from Australia is expected to increase by another 20 per cent this year.

| Snow Sledging at Kiental | | 2008-05-26 15:40:00 | | This is what I missed, snow sledging. Last year we were not with snow sledge because I was preggy of my son. I knew this is so late entry but I just want to share you what I have I missed last winter. Now it is summer, many months that we must wait until the winter come and do snow sledge. My husband and I we love to go snow sledge within half day just snow sledge, is not boring for us doing this. Snow sledge is a lot of fun; you will really enjoy doing. This coming winter we are sure with our little boy, that he will be one year old. The photo above took shot of my husband, I was on action snow sledging, we were in Kiental Berner Oberland during our snow sledging, about 11 kilometers from up to down with snow sledging, isn’t so far? I am sure when you do snow sledging as long so long way, you will really enjoy, but you must prepare your money to pay for chair lift up to the mountain, 1 pay 1 day valid. | | By: Amazing life | | |

Ice and ice, a large area was covered with snow on the slope of Routing. We found a pyramid type structure and half circle shaped structure near a KUND named BEAS KUND, all around the area was like a vast snow of ocean suitable for skiing. Sudden clouds covered sometime whole snow area and some times sharp reflections of sunshine on snow seem as milky smoke covering the area. It becomes difficult to gazing the beauty of snow in bare eyes in sunny weather. Sunglass to some extend gives remedy. I had to remove my sunglass for a while to witness natural beauty on large area of snow. But no longer I could, in sharp reflection of sunlight. | Snow Mound Spirea - Spiraea Nipponica | | 2008-04-19 18:49:00 | | The other plant we put into our flower garden today was two Snow Mound Spireas or Spiraea Nipponica. We actually had one of these plants at our last house and I liked it. Its more of a flower shrub than a plant I guess. The nice thing about these plants is they are not especially sensitive to varying pH levels. This is good considering our acidic soil. These shrubs will blossom in late May or early June with a nice white flower. At maturity this shrub will be approximately 4 to 5 feet tall and 5 to 7 feet wide (not if I can help it....pruning to the rescue).Tags: home improvement, home improvement blog, Snow Mound Spirea | | By: Helpful Advice for Home Construction Improvement | | |

| The snow job: why personal responsibility won't end poverty | | 2008-04-13 18:11:07 | | Yesterday Bob Herbert at the New York Times wrote about the apparent futility of every effort we've taken so far to end the war in Iraq and change our nation for the better. Herbert described the results of our lack of collective power in concise and heartbreaking terms:The U.S., once the greatest can-do country on the planet, now can’t seem to do anything right. The great middle class has maxed out its credit cards and drained dangerous amounts of equity from family homes. No one can seem to figure out how to generate the growth in good-paying jobs that is the only legitimate way of putting strapped families back on their feet. The nation’s infrastructure is aging and in many places decrepit. Rebuilding it would be an important source of job creation, but nothing on the scale that is needed is in sight. ......The U.S. seems almost paralyzed, mesmerized by Iraq and unable to generate the energy or the will to handle the myriad problems festering at home. It is a windy, exposed site on the side of a ridge so spring comes a little later. I did some work in the big perennial border, which is usually cared for by the staff but I helped them divide and move a few things. The roses are cleaned up and ready to grow. The farther out you go from the house the less garden there is but I found this little collection of Crocus blooming under the largest specimens of Dawn Viburnum I have ever seen. Only two of the types photographed well ;)It is finally feeling a little like spring as we have put a couple of nice warm days back to back. | Anything Can Happen on a Snow Day | | 2008-04-01 07:09:14 | | Of course, nothing really happened EXCEPT what was expected to happen.. which was that the unexpected brought expected arguments, meltdowns, fights, etc. for about the first two hours the kids were home. They were all here by 11:15, but by 1:00 things seemed to settle down fairly well and the rest of the day was fine. Leon, WIlson and Tony spent hours playing in the snow and actually had a great time. They had this picture taken to send to their sister. They have some trouble remembering that just because it is April does not mean it is time for shorts. It doesn't seem necessary for me to continue to lament the fact that it is April and we have several inches of snow in the yard as it won't make any difference. However, driving through a winter wonderland was certainly not my plan two weeks into Spring.I was at the YMCA by 5:15 again this morning. | Snow Experience | | 2008-03-19 03:15:00 | | I finally gave it up. Having snow is really "mendokusai" or shall we say "tiresome." You have to wear several layers of clothes from undies to shirts and caps. You need specialized gloves and shoes to insulate the cold from your skin. It makes you feel asleep so easily because of the severe cold. You need to constantly put lip gloss, lots of face moisturizer and body lotion to nourish your dry skin during this season. Well, what the heck. Winter is gone and welcome spring. The thing is, experiencing snow is really breathtaking. | Remove Snow and Ice Safely from your Roof | | 2008-03-17 13:32:44 | | Roof structures may collapse due to snow or ice, particularly if the load is unevenly distributed on the roof. Heavy snow and ice loads accumulate easily between, for instance, adjacent ridge or arch roofs and on flat roofs. Snow and ice loadAlthough snow and ice loads are typically largest in March, they may accumulate at any time during winter, depending on weather conditions.Check the roofs While a visual examination reveals endangered roofs, a dented roof structure implies an imminent danger. Warehouses, sheds and light-structure roofs especially should be inspected on a regular basis, and snow load must be removed if necessary. How to remove snow from the roof If it is possible to remove the snow with a snow rake instead of getting on the roof, please do so. Remove snow evenly from the different parts of the roof. If you remove snow from a ridge or arch roof, an equal amount of load should be removed from both sides of the roof. Do not pile snow from upper roofs on lower roofs. I | | By: Insurance Spot | | |

| We Had Spring & Snow Last Night | | 2008-03-01 10:06:00 | | It was a pleasure to see baseball return in 2008 as a nice crowd gathered at Professor Thom's last night to watch the Red Sox defeat the Minnesota Twins in Ft. Myers, 8-3. Kevin Youkilis, Jason Varitek and George Kottaras all hit home runs and Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched two scoreless innings. But the important thing was on a cold night in late February, we were all together watching baseball again. More than one person said to me they were so happy to see it back, as was I. In the middle of the game, it began snowing.Snow and Red Sox baseball. Quite the odd combo. The talk was varied last night. Can the Red Sox repeat? Will Daisuke win 20? Will Beckett win the Cy Young Award this year? Will the Red Sox trade Coco? And of course, what an asshole Hank Steinbrenner is. (Here he is pictured before giving yet another colorful interview last night.)Spring is officially 19 days away. | Scientists Baffled, Just Baffled That The Snow Keeps Falling ... Buuurrr | | 2008-02-14 17:58:41 | | To quote Al 'Goracle' Gore:Scientists “don’t have any models that give them a high level of confidence” ... scientists “don’t know. … They just don’t know.”I know Al ... I know.Denver Post:Dry-winter forecasts were flat wrong this year for much of Colorado and the Southwest, and weather experts say they're struggling to understand why the snow just keeps falling. Some forecasters blame climate change, and others point to the simple vicissitudes of weather. Regardless, almost everyone called for a dry-to-normal winter in Colorado and the Southwest — but today, the state's mountains are piled so thick with snow that state reservoirs could fill and floods could be widespread this spring."The polar jet stream has been on steroids. We don't understand this. It's pushing our limits, and it's humbling," said Klaus Wolter, a meteorologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Colorado at Boulder.Baffling ... just baffling.

| Snow | | 2008-02-11 03:25:00 | | Snowed Saturday. Not long.Long enough to smother some of the grey ugliness of the city.Long enough to witness a bicycle rider narrowly avoid hitting pedestrians as she lost control of her steed in the slush.About 11 to 13 centimeters fell late Saturday morning and continued until mid-afternoon.I couldnt recall having snow fall this late in Winter.Especially given that Spring started last week according to the old traditional lunar calendar.I was told later however that snow isnt that unusual as late January to early February is apparently the coldest time of the year.By the time I left work on Saturday the snow had stopped and had already begun to turn into slush.Melting drifts which had built up on lampposts and roofs periodically fell onto the footpath below causing passing pedestrians to cast a weary eye as they trod home. | | By: porcelain-monkey | | |

| Snow Finally Fell | | 2008-01-22 20:38:00 | | When I woke up this morning, I had a terrible flu accompanied with fever. It felt like I had the wost condition since living in Tokyo for 4 months now. To my surprise, a couple of minutes after, snow fell. Finally, the long wait is over. Tha gaijin was able to experience snow falling. But what the hell, I need to eat for me to take my medicines. I have to force myself to go out in the mad storm of snow falling in Kunitachi just for me to stock food until the evening. It took me to wore my 2 thermal jackets. The "Michellin" and the one for snowboarding. It's really warm now but it's still hard to do common things especially if you house has no built-in heater. Well, two nights ago, my other friend told me that it rained snow in Hachioji City, a nearby city which I live here in Tokyo, Kunitachi City, and it filled the hoods of cars and made the streets drip wet with melted snow. Unluckily, snow on the Pacific coast area which includes 3/4 of entire Tokyo metropolitan does not fall and if it does, then maybe for once or twice in several years. It's like once in a blue-moon, as what my Japanese boss confirmed. For Filipinos, the usual crazy of idea crops up what if, and what if snow falls in the Philippines.... Well, maybe 70 percent will suggest preparing halo-halo, a cold sweet dessert with crushed ice topped with so many beans and desserts coming from the snow which will fall.
