| How SPAM got it's Name | | 2008-05-04 23:25:00 | | 30 YEARS OF JUNK IN YOUR INBOXThis week, the world will mark an anniversary that has changed the face of email inboxes the world over: the first known spam email was sent 30 years ago on Saturday. But the message sent on May 3, 1978, by a marketer for the now defunct DEC computer company, to around 400 people on the US west coast, wasn’t called spam and the sender had no ill intent. How things have changed.Spam got it’s name from a skit on TV show Monty Python’s Flying Circus, in which a group of Vikings in a restaurant that serves all of its food with spam tinned meat sing a song repeating the word ad nauseum, said Brad Templeton, who has researched the subject. “Thus, the meaning of the term: something that keeps repeating and repeating to great annoyance.”Today, spamming is a sophisticated operation affecting millions. The percentage of spam sent to Gmail account holders quadrupled between 2004 and 2008. Spam methodology too has changed in the last 30 years. The sender of t | | By: Blog Traffic-Blog Guide | | |

| Spam Factory Websites | | 2008-05-02 09:16:40 | | Web developers and search engine optimizers work with the same basic commodities- web applications and the internet. Web developers (usually) create sites that look good, deliver the right information and exceed their clients' expectations. More and more they are also attuned to the requirement that a site should be able to achieve high search visibility. This means making key components search engine friendly.
Building a 100% bespoke site is becoming a rarity- sure, design look and feel, architecture and content are pretty unique factors, but the content management system (CMS) sitting in the background, and/or the database that feeds it are frequently the same. So, your designer/developer may make you a one-off web 2.0 beauty, but chances are its management system is the same as for all their other clients.
I'm not about to beat-up on this approach, it allows scale-economies that (should) get passed on to you. It also means that your tech support (should) be top-notch. If they b | | By: Sonicatu | | |

¿No? WILL BE GIVING A PRODUCT PRESENTATION OF THE NEWEST MEMBERS OF THE DECSYSTEM-20 FAMILY; THE DECSYSTEM-2020, 2020T, 2060, AND 2060T.

| | By: Manu's Blog | | |

| Getting Rid of Spam | | 2008-01-29 21:39:36 | | So, you're drowning in spam? Well, here's two ways to help you get rid of it.1: The RulesIf you're using Apple Mail, then you should also be using the "Rules". In case you didn't know, rules allow you to filter you mail based upon some criteria. With this in mind, we want to set up a rule to get rid of any junk mail not caught by Apple Mail. Here's what you want to do:• Create a new folder called junk. This way, you can go through this when you want to and can make sure it catches the bad, and not the good.• Make a new rule in the Mail Preferences (Cmd-,) that will search the entire text of messages for any words that could be spam. I highly suggest you start out with "v¡agra" (with an "i") and then expand from there. (By the way, I used a ¡ instead of an i so that if you set this up already, it doesn't delete this tip.)• Add to the rules whenever you get a spam message. If somebody sends you a spam from "lottery@lotteryboard.com" then add that From: address to your rules. If y | | By: The MacTipper Blog | | |

| Five Facts about Spam | | 2008-01-26 01:35:00 | | These are some facts about spam:The term "spam" for numbers of unwanted e-mails refers to the Monty Python sketch set in a cafe where every dish comes with Spam, a tinned meat product, and a group of Vikings chants "Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam."Spamming rise is largely due to one malicious computer program or also known as 'worm'. This worm hijacks home computers and makes them send out e mail messages. Some commonly used e-mail subject lines:Please finalize.Thank you for request.Christmas Special!Dating, 15 new messages for you, Olga.News. The con men then sell their stake at a profit and the price falls.Experts urge computer users to install antivirus programs and keep them updated; never to respond to spam e-mail messages and never to reveal financial details.Keep your e-mail address secure, don't simply pu | | By: Macam-macam | | |

| 2. Detection of CSS Spam | | 2008-01-22 23:31:10 | | The bad thing about black hat SEO is, that some people always think they are too clever. The good thing about search engine algorithms is, that they are updated more or less regularly and that they are constantly getting better in trapping black hat SEO down. As a result many of these dark freaks find themselves or their websites penalized or even banned by the search engines. One of the latest search engine "tricks" had been CSS spamming. CSS spam are CSS pages which have been solely created for the misleading of both, search engine bots and human visitors. Playing such games with CSS is no longer worth the effort, at least after the recent Google Jagger Update. At least the Google robot will with a pretty good certainty detect such spam CSS leading to invisible text, which it by any means will rate as SPAM.Solution:Use CSS and CSS style sheets for better formatting of your website, not in order to mislead search engine robots. Besides, I can still not understand why so many webmaster | | By: Search Engine Optimization Tips | | |

| 1.Detection of Blog Spam | | 2008-01-22 23:27:52 | | A Spam Blog has been defined to be a blog which is not more or less regularly updated and which has been created for the sole purpose to promote another website or product.Solution:Create blogs and maintain them regularly. Do not always use the same links to yours or other websites (including affiliate links). Try not to use your blogs as spam. Try to use them as useful addition to your website, to add community value to your visitors. Use your blogs as a guidline or help area rather than filling it with useless content or even worse to use it as a dull promotional platform only. | | By: Search Engine Optimization Tips | | |

| Ever Wanted A Spam Phone Number? | | 2008-01-15 11:57:00 | | I know it's kinda of sketchy but have you ever wanted to get someone else's number yet didn't want them to have your real number in the exchange? Or have you wanted to sign up for any number of things only to feel unsure about giving out your real phone number?Introducing, two services:Numbr.comNumbr offer free disposable, real phone numbers. You can get numbers in any area code that you want. You then select when you want the number to expire – an hour, a day, a week or a month. The disposable number is discreetly forwarded to your real number, so you can get a verification call if needed by the company. After said time the phone number becomes invalid so you never have to worry about any more calls.BrringIf you need a number that is going to last for longer than a month and you want to make money off of your callers then Brring might be for you.You get paid every time someone calls your Brring number. The caller calls your Brring number and listens to a short (5 second) advertisement. They are then forwarded right to your normal number without ever knowing what your normal number is.They have ads about travel, cars, electronics, fashion, politics, etc. Although I haven't used this service, I was just thinking that one could use this number for those free offers you might see at expo's, fairs, etc. that involve a phone number (since they will not know your real number and you'll be getting money from it).

| Anti Clinton Spam | | 2008-01-08 15:40:38 | | Clinton's not such a bad candidate, so I wasn't exactly elated when I received this spam, because it also reminded me of those rumors people are spreading about Obama and Romney:RE: Coming witchcraft of Senator Hillary RODHAM CLINTON in politics, also. Like in the witchery, at her age of 61 years old Senator Hillary RODHAM CLINTON is to become overnight a candidate for a change, pulling a rabbit out of her hat. This can happen only in the witchcraft that she and her husband William J. CLINTON, former President reportedly believe in and practice. This is what comes up in the Google search under words of their names, witchcraft, satanic and/or Shamanism, subject to easy verification. The proverb goes that an old dog cannot learn new tricks. The final say belongs to the American people, casting their votes in primaries. The change is contrary to the background of Senator Hillary RODHAM CLINTON. This is proven by facts of her own making. Since the beginning she has been and remained the Washington, DC insider. In 1970s she worked for the U.S. House of Representatives. Then, she departed for Arkansas, but she kept her Beltway contacts. She returned to have co-run the White House with her husband William J. CLINTON as President and to have done so under the their motto “to elect one and to get two”. In fact, Senator Hillary RODHAM CLINTON was already the co-president during two tenures of well known scandals. If she is nominated for U.S. president, this will likely be the big red flag for GOP, majority of Independents and even some Democrats to unite and vote Republican in general elections for the White House and to U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. If she wins, she will run her administration of Democrats as during the Clinton tenures when they lost the majority in U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Her presidential candidacy seems to be the proposition of losing the White House and/or U.S. Congress for the Democrats soo | | By: Thoughts on the World | | |

| Signing Up For SPAM! | | 2008-01-04 16:06:00 | | I checked my email this morning and found it filled with this and that offer from the gurus and wannabes. I'm one of those silly people who put herself on every mailing list out there. You know what I'm talkin' about, right? When you land on one of those squeeze pages and you scroll to the bottom and there's a place for you to put your first name and email address and they'll send you some freebee.I highly suggest not using your "real" email address, or if you do, set up filters for each of these senders so that your in box doesn't get inundated. What I mean by real email address is the one that you get emails from your friends and family. I use Yahoo! for my email. I ended up upgrading to Yahoo! Mail Plus which gave me the the ability to set up 50 filters AND create disposable email addresses! This way I could set up to filter the ones I wanted to keep getting stuff from, or I could just junk my "fake" disposable address after I got the freebee I wanted. Now most of these internet marketers have an opt-out or unsubscribe option to their email lists, which I highly suggest doing first rather than just junking your disposable address. Afterall, if I was one of these marketers, I'd rather have my subscribers unsubscribe than jerk me around.Another good reason to get the disposable address option through Yahoo is that in spite of what these marketers say, I noticed a HUGE increase in SPAM since I started subscribing to their lists. They always have a note saying how much they hate spam blah blah blah, and "we won't sell your email address" yeah, right! So please tell me, Mr. Guru, why is my inbox filled with spam? Unfortunately, I learned too late. This is why I highly suggest a service like Yahoo! Mail Plus. I'm not familiar with the other email services out there, so if your dead set against Yahoo!, you might want to do some digging to see what your favorite service has to offer.H. | | By: ShopDogDiaries | | |

| When spam approaches infinity | | 2007-12-07 13:41:00 | | From Seth Godwin:"After years of resisting, I finally gave up yesterday. I turned on the Yahoo spam filter. So far, it's caught 443 pieces of spam in 14 hours. The problem is that it's wrong about .5% of the time, which means that two good mails got caught. If you write to me and I don't write back, try not to give up. I'd ask you to write again, but of course, that won't help so much. What a shame that we let organized crime, aggressive promoters and selfish nebbishes wreck such a useful medium.[Thanks to all your suggestions, I switched to Google's spam filter. | Obvious Email Spam is Still Successful | | 2007-11-28 13:59:00 | | This is an off-topic post that I felt could not be missed. The Register wrote today about a type of email spam that is extremely common and rather obvious BUT surprisingly it appears some Internet users are still falling for it. The article is worth the read if you have any concerns about what emails to read or not to read.In ShortEmails that promise free games, windows security patches or updates, nude celebrity pictures, or anything that seems out of the ordinary should be deleted immediately.A source in the Register article "recommends PC users do not open executable files attached to email messages from addresses they do not recognise or trust and to 'refrain from opening any message that purports to feature nude celebrities'."So what is the big deal? After all it is just spam!?
