Scheduled to begin this week, Sony’s mini-episodes are a series of classics like “Charlie’s Angels,” “Fantasy Island” and “Who’s the Boss,” which have been edited from their 30-60 minute original lengths to 4-6 minutes. Honda will be running 8 seconds of commercials with each episode.
This isn’t the first time Honda is leveraging social media. In May Honda Civic Tour and friendsorenemies joined forces to create a user-generated fan community.
I think this is a smart move on Sony and Honda’s part. But some would argue that this is just another way in which new media is contributing to people’s growing attention deficits. To me, it’s a matter of Sony and Honda recognizing that many people would appreciate shortened series’ (on the Net) and respective shortened commercials.
