I also have a free version of Spybot antispyware. Now every thing set I tried to download alexa toolbar using Internet Explorer. Then to my surprised, after clicking that download button I got a page other than the download page. I also made a screen shot below have a look at it.It showed that, the blocked web page included objects which were either included by virus or likely to be infected with virus.Then I have removed the antivirus protection and downloaded the toolbar. After downloading it, there were some registry changes. Then when I switched on the antivirus protection it was fine for some time. When I tried to open C drive, where I have my OS, a window popped up from bitdefender stating the file is infected with "Adware.Alexabar.H"I then tried to scan the complete system using spybot and found 23 errors. I couldnot believe my eyes and was finding for the answer. Have a look at the screen shot below.But none discussed about this issue. Only alexa people wrote very less about this and they said as below" When you install the Alexa Toolbar, part of the installation is actually the installer itself. (This remains on your system in order for you to keep the uninstaller.) It is this component of the Alexa Toolbar package that is detected by these applications. The false positive is documented on the website of the manufacturer of this Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS). I believe I used AOL to get online so I could figure out how to fight the problem. I downloaded a fix from Symantec and it was all better.

It hasn’t just affected us but other known forums on the net. The spammers tend to push a program that is claiming to remove the latest rogues like SpyLocked/SpywareLocked/SpyLocker but infact it’s a program called SpyHunter.

Yes the company that pushes SpyHunter is Enigma Software Group. The one that use to be on the bad Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites list for this reason:
“…Enigma’s SpyHunter anti-spyware application was listed on this page primarily because of the company’s history of employing aggressive, deceptive advertising…”
They hide their installer as a tool that claims to remove rogues then when you download the recommended tool from the said site you get the SpyHunter installer. If you ask me in light of this. They should be re-listed on the list above.
