Skipper Mahela Jayawardene says Sri Lanka are keen to maintain their impressive home record when they take on India in a three-Test series, which starts here on Wednesday.
The hosts have won home series against South Africa, England and the West Indies in the past four years and in the same period have lost just one match in 16 at home -- against Pakistan two years ago.
Jayawardene said pride was the key to success.
"We don't want any team to come and beat us at home. That's the attitude we go with. There is a lot of pride involved in it and we would like to protect that (record)," he said on the eve of the opening Test.
"We are very consistent at home and we will continue to do that because as I have said there is a lot of pride involved in it."

| End of an era in ancestral politics in Sri Lanka | | 2008-03-19 13:19:29 | | Death of Anura Bandaranayaka marked the end of ancestral politics by privileged families in Sri Lanka. Family politics is no stranger even in contemporary international politics. The famous Kenedy family once influenced USA politics and rather infamous Bush family has influenced both American and world politics today. Now we are witnessing Clinton family politics in USA in the form of husband to wife. However ancestral politics in Sri Lanka is different from that of western world. Western family politics is a result of monetary and political power earned by a family member oneself. However our political dynasties are direct result of colonization. As they established colonies through military might, the colonials consolidated their positions by the help of these comprador families. They were omnipotent. It thwarted the Portuguese before finally succumbing to British rule in 1815. Reclining serenely beside an artificial lake on the wooded lower slopes of the Hill Country after which it was christened, Kandy became a religious center during the 13th or 14th century and a political one following the decline of Plonnaruwa. Gracious residences for the hillside in a sea of greenery on the south shore of the lake. Centred on the moated pink Dalada Maligawa, the 16th-century Temple of the Tooth – the island’s most sacred relic – Kandy feels like a Sri Lankan Kyoto. | Reality of meat consumption in post colonial period in Sri Lanka | | 2008-03-09 11:25:38 | | Sri Lankan culture has been evolved for over over two thousand years in harmony with our soil, climate and geographical realities. From time to time we were influenced by Indian sub continent. Some of the influences came in the form of friendly missions and there were occations that the influence was in the forms of invasions. However, Sri Lankas were able to buid independent culture and tradition with Sri Lankan identity.Being a tropical country with plenty of sunshine and rain, Sri Lanka naturally became an agricultural based country which is common to the Indian sub continent. Therefore, we were having plenty of grains, vegetables and fruts. When Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka, the agricultural tradtion was further strengthened. Both Hinuism and Buddhism being evolved in harmony with same traditions, the Indian influence on our culture were naturally absorbed. | Indo-Sri Lanka Peace Accord and broken promises | | 2008-03-01 01:42:10 | | In 9 January 1984, couple of students started a peaceful demonstration in Jafna University. However, Piripaharan saw this type of peaceful demonstrations as a threat to the growth of his fascist terrorist organization. LTTE propagandists made use of the university student fast to din into the minds of the Tamil people the futility of non-violent protests. Therefore, he ordered his carders to abduct them and innocent Tamil girl Mathivathani was among them and she ended up in the custody of Piripaharan in a LTTE camp in South India. In Hindu society it is very difficult for a Hindu girl to face the society after being under the custody of a man. Therefore, up to the date she is still living with this terrorist leader as his official wife.On July 29, 1987, a similar incident occurred. However, this time it is not a personal incident, but happened to be a tragedy of a nation that Piripaharan also played a role. It is none other than the Indo-Lanka peace accord which introduced the 'Provinc | | By: Lanka Rising | | |

Admittedly, there are now gleaming white high-rises overshadowing the neoclassic portico of the mellow brownstone parliament building at the heart of the Fort area; nonetheless, this miniature metropolis seems largely content to retain its portion of the power, whilst allowing its more extrovert forerunners – Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy and co. – the lion’s share of the glory on the tourist trail. Even the creation of the new administrative capital of Sri Jayawardhanapura down the road has not detracted from Colombo’s supremacy as the hub of the island’s commercial, financial and industrial activity – as undisputed since independence as it was under the trinity of colonial powers. | SRI LANKA | | 2008-02-23 01:30:00 | | Little did bel-esprit Horace Walpole realize, as his Grand Tour ended under a cloud in Northern Italy, that he would never come closer to Serendib. The teardrop ‘Paradise Island’ off the coast of India beloved of Arabian seafarers is the home of the blissful state the christened serendipity – the “faculty of making happy and unexpected discoveries by accidentâ€. Sri Lanka’s history has not always been happy; the unexpected, however, can certainly occur round every corner. To the ancient Greeks, Sri Lanka was Taprobane; to the Indians, Lanka, the ‘Resplendent Land’, to the Moors the ‘Isle of Delight’, and to the Chinese the ‘Jewelled Island’. The Victorians called it the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’ when they imposed the Pax Britannica on the last kings of Kandy, in the wake of the Portuguese and Dutch traders. They also quelled the invading Indian armies from both ends of the subcontinent – the Sinhalese and Tamils whose Buddhist and Hindu beliefs mingle free | | By: The Best Of Asia | | |
