| George Steinbrenner Speak's On All-Star Game | | 2008-07-16 16:14:00 | | “Anyone who needed proof that Yankee Stadium is the grandest stage in baseball got it last night. “The 2008 All-Star Game was one of the greatest experiences in my life and in franchise history. Thanks to the fans who jammed our Stadium and cheered into the wee hours. Thanks to the players who played their hearts out for their Leagues. Congratulations to Major League Baseball and Bud Selig for an extraordinary event. “I was impressed and humbled by the record number of Hall of Famers who lined the field. Their presence underscored the heritage that Yankee Stadium represents. “I particularly appreciated the many people who wished me well. “The whole evening makes me anticipate the next chapter in the Yankees saga even more. I look forward to opening the new Stadium next year, knowing that the 2008 All-Star Game will forever be a tremendous part of the old one’s legacy.

| | AL Wins The 2008 All Star Game...**Manny Ramirez On His Future Career Possibilities With Or Without The Boston Red Sox** | | 2008-07-16 04:20:00 | | The most important statistic of the 2008 Baseball All Star Game was its length...four hours and fifty minutes, lasting well into the early morning. 453 pitches. Wow. The American League defeated the National League by a score of 4-3, their eleventh win of the last twelve All Star fests. There was a memorable tie within that span. Jonathon Papelbon pitched the eighth inning and gave up a very unearned run, but the game continued on and on and on and.....I could keep going, but you get the point. JD Drew, on the strength of his seventh inning two run tater, was named the MVP of the game, and deservedly so. Manny, Youk and Peds were hitless. OK, enough about that. Here's something more important for those of us who love the Boston Red Sox.The subject is the Sox leftfielder, the beloved (MOST of the time) Manny Ramirez. He was in the Yankee (gulp!) clubhouse before the game and had a sitdown with the Boston Herald's Rob Bradford. Here's part of what he had to say when asked about his futu | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| | **The 2008 All Star Game** | | 2008-07-15 04:10:00 | | The managers have announced the starting lineups and their starting pitchers, the players are ready and Yankee Stadium, the House That Ruth Built, will be ready to showcase all in a gala opening ceremony. Fox and FoxHD will start the television coverage with a 7pm EDT pregame show featuring all the festivity of these past two days, especially today's star-studded 6th Avenue parade. It should be great. Game coverage on Fox and FoxHD will be at 8pm. Expect a pre-game festival more choreographed than the 1999 Fenway Park All Star game, which was highlighted by Ted Williams' last appearance in front of the baseball world. First, here are your starting pitchers. For the visiting (and losing, I hope) National League, it will be Ben Sheets, 29, of the Milwaukee Brewers. His record is 10-3 with a great ERA of 2.85. The American League will start the Cleveland Indians' Cliff Lee. He's also 29, and he has a record of 12-2 and an even better ERA of 2.31. | | Texas vs. Nation College Football All-Star Game | | 2008-02-08 16:02:57 | | A little known college All Star Game, Texas verses Nation was played on 2 February 2008. The game was broadcast nationally on CSTV, and I have provided a detailed game report. The best college football players from the other 49 states besides Texas played against the best players from Texas. It doesn't sound like a fair fight but you can tell by the score the selection committee tries to keep the rosters competitive. Texas can also use players that played high school football in Texas. The Texas All Stars destroyed the Nation's 41-14 in front of 26,821 fans at the Sun Bowl in El Paso Texas. The Texas All Stars forced six turnovers and limited the Nation team to a paltry 189 yards in total offense.Running Back Xavier Omon from Northwest Missouri State (Maryville Missouri) was selected as the game's MVP and he was clearly the best player on the field. | | Tomas Vokoun Makes All-Star Game | | 2008-01-11 21:03:00 | | Yes, it's a Panthers story. I haven't written about them in over a month because frankly, I don't really watch the games (I'm not even sure where to find them half the time) and I don't feel like writing recaps based solely on box scores.Anyway, the guy we brought in to replace Roberto Luongo has made the All-Star game as a reserve. Vokoun has faced the most shots in the NHL and has held his own with a .918 save percentage. No other Panthers made the team.As far as the standings are concerned, the Panthers are lucky they are in such a weak division. They hover around the 10th and 11th seeds, but are only a 3-4 game win streak from jumping to the 3rd seed. With any consistency or influx of talent (unlikely, I know), this team could make the playoffs. However, I don't think they are anywhere near being able to make an impact in the postseason. From what I hear about management and ownership, they really won't be doing much to help the situation either. Oh well. At least we'll always have the 96 season? | | By: State of Miami | | |

| | Does the NBA Want Yi Out of the All-Star Game? | | 2007-11-17 09:49:00 | | On Friday, China's basketball press became infuriated when the NBA left Milwaukee Bucks rookie forward Yi Jianlian off the 2008 All Star ballot. The exclusion of Yi's name will make it much more difficult for Chinese supporters of the Bucks forward to vote for him to start in the annual All Star Game. With Yi, off the ballot, one has to wonder if the NBA does not want the rookie forward participating in the All-Star game.So far this season, the 20-year-old rookie has certainly been impressive, averaging eleven points and 6.9 rebounds a game, while replacing Charlie Villanueva as the Bucks starter. While Yi, has become the Bucks' starter Villanueva is representing the Bucks on the ballot, despite averaging just seven points and four rebounds a game. His appearance instead of Yi's, makes one wonder if the NBA would prefer Jianlian to not make an appearance as a starter. The Chinese papers certainly believe that their is a conspiracy against Yi, as they were extremely critical of the | | By: West Coast Bias | | |
| | | | | All-Star Game is losing proposition for Padres | | 2007-07-11 18:26:00 | | Trevor Hoffman could breathe a little sigh of relief Tuesday night.Or did you not see how American League relievers J.J. Putz of Seattle and Francisco Rodriguez of Anaheim suffered ninth-inning meltdowns in the All-Star Game?Hoffman had the same difficulties last year, allowing two ninth-inning runs and becoming the losing pitcher.Putz and Rodriguez both had their problems last night … and they’re lucky not to have blown the game. The Padres did suffer another All-Star setback in San Francisco.Chris Young became the losing pitcher after allowing an inside-the-park home run to Ichiro Suzuki. This means San Diego has been the home of the All-Star Game’s losing pitcher for two straight years.Since this is only an “exhibition” game (don’t tell Commissioner Bud Selig), Young and the Padres can certainly shake it off before returning to play Friday night in Arizona. | | By: San Diego Sporting | | |
| | Another AL All Star Game Win......"Surgical Procedure" For Papi? | | 2007-07-11 12:21:00 | | As in recent years, the AL continued their decade long mastery of the All Star Game with a 5-4 victory over the NL, assuring the AL team that makes it to the World Series the home team advantage. Papi and Manny went hitless and Mike Lowell contributed a single. The winning pitcher was none other than our very own Josh Beckett. Paps pitched a scoreless 8th and Oki Doke did not play. I'm sure he was honored to be there.....he sure looked happy! Baseball 2007 resumes tomorrow evening with a 4 game set against the always tough, at least for the last couple of years, Toronto Blue Jays.In other news, I came across an article in this morning's Globe that mentioned the possibility of surgery (gulp!) for Big Papi in the off-season. | | Young, Pujols Snubbed In All-Star Game | | 2007-07-11 10:34:53 | | One position player on each league’s All-Star roster didn’t get to play in tonight’s 78th All-Star Game. And I’m pretty miffed about both players getting snubbed.
American League manager Jim Leyland played starter Derek Jeter at shortstop for the first four innings of the game, and substituted in his own player, Carlos Guillen, for Jeter during the 5th inning. Fine, no problems there.
Fast forward to the top of the 9th: Guillen, who has already played four innings, is supposed to lead off. Trevor Hoffman is coming in to pitch. Seeing as how Jeter and Guillen have already gotten a nice share of playing time on the night, it would logically make sense to let Michael Young, the 2006 All-Star Game MVP, have a chance to play, right? And remember, Young won that MVP award with a pinch hit, game-winning RBI triple off Hoffman in the 9th inning last year. You’d think he’d deserved a shot, right?
Apparently, Jim Leyland didn’t think so. He left Guillen | | By: Baseball Time in Arlington

And I barely paid attention to the brief portion of the game that I watched. I don't know who won, and quite frankly, I don't care. It matters little to me what league wins. Of course it matters to Red Sox fans because they know that the Sox are all but in the Fall Classic as we speak, so they need to plan for the possibility of four home Series games. They needn't even worry that their two big boppers have combined for fewer home runs than Alex Rodriguez, whose numbers are comparable to JD Drew's. They needn't even worry that Mike Lowell could have an anxiety attack if he's expected to get a clutch hit on the road. | | GM's Hybrid Chevrolet Malibu Unveiled on All-Star Game | | 2007-07-08 06:05:00 | | GM News of 6th, July. On today's Major League Baseball's All-Star Game, General Motors corp. unveiled it's Chevrolet Malibu. Now, this post cover the Chevrolet Malibu spy shots and some features of this Chevrolet Malibu. Those wishing for a Prius-beater will be left sorely disappointed – the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid’s electric drivetrain combined with a 2.4L 4-cyl engine delivers only 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. To give you an idea of just how weak this is, Chevy’s own estimates claim it is only 2mpg better than the non-hybrid model. Of course, the car is covered in hybrid badges so everyone still thinks you care about the environment. The Chevrolet Malibu hybrid works primarily by using regenerative braking and shutting off the engine when the car is stopped, but it does have the benefit of powering all vehicle accessories with the engine off and boosting peak power. GM plans to build the Malibu hybrid in October with sales beginning soon after.GM is getting serious about it | | By: Autos Space
| | Michael Young Selected To All-Star Game | | 2007-07-02 00:20:07 | | As just announced on the TBS All-Star Game Selection Show, Rangers shortstop and reigning 2006 All-Star Game MVP Michael Young has been selected as a reserve for the 2007 American League All-Star squad. Young was not selected by the players or fans, but by AL manager Jim Leyland.
Young has hit .293/.343/.400 this year with 4 HR and 48 RBI in 335 AB. Michael began the year very slowly, hitting just .215 in April. He has since rebounded considerably, and had a monster June, batting .361/.426/.407 in 108 AB on the month. This will be Young’s 4th consecutive All-Star appearance.
Young is the lone Rangers All-Star representative, with such hopefuls as Eric Gagne, Akinori Otsuka, Mark Teixeira and Sammy Sosa coming up short. The “All-Star Final Vote” will begin after the selection show is over, and I can certainly see the possibility of Gagne or Sosa getting a shot on that ballot.
