| Obama's Coronation and Star Trek | | 2008-08-26 21:09:41 | | TUESDAY, AUGUST 26I spent the day working on credit card fraud. I finally completed the paperwork for Capital One. Then, I checked my bank statement. Yep, the same company had hit my fairly new debit card. So I canceled that, then had to do to the bank to get a new one. While there we were involved in a discussion about the Dems and Michelle Obama. I am still trying to figure out how these charges occurred. I was finally able to track one of the front companies, which belonged to some "XXX-Rated Ebony Beauty" site. That's not exactly ... | | By: The Pink Flamingo | | |

| Top 10 reasons The Star Wars Characters Would Kick Butt In The Star Trek Universe | | 2008-06-14 08:20:02 | | 10. In the Star Wars universe, weapons rarely, if ever, are set on “stun”.9. The Enterprise needs a huge engine room with an anti-matter unit and a crew of twenty just to go into warp—the Millennium Falcon does the same thing with R2-D2 and a Wookiee.8. After resisting the Imperial torture droid and Darth Vader, Princess Leia still looked fresh and desirable. After pithy Cardassian starvation torture, Picard looked like hell.7. Jabba the Hutt would eat Harry Mudd for trying to cut in on his action.6. Luke Skywalker is not obsessed with sleeping with every alien he encounters.5. One word: “light sabers”.4. The Federation would have to attempt to liberate any ship named Slave I.3. Darth Vader could choke the entire Borg empire with one glance.2. Picard pilots the Enterprise through an asteroid belt at one-quarter impulse power. Han Solo floors it.1. The Death Star doesn't care if a world is class “M” or not. | | By: Stupid Tips | | |

| Star Trek VII: The Seventh Post | | 2008-02-24 23:10:55 | | Yes, I realize that eventually I will rerun an old Star Trek post and this title will suddenly make no sense, but when has anyone ever accused me of making sense? The first incarnation of Star Trek is 42 years old, and it doesn't make any more sense now than it ever did. But we love it, no matter how cheesy, because it was an optimistic look at the future. Humankind not only dropped the old prejudices, they reached out to other communities. They had respect for the natural developments of other planets (the Prime Directive), even if they managed to break those rules every once in a while. OK, constantly, but at least they had the rule! They had cool machines that would do anything and everything. They traveled through time, transporters, and wormholes. Yep, that's still cool. Saludos! | | By: Cerebros no lavados | | |

| Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Robert Wise. | | 2007-12-13 10:44:50 | |
In addition to being one of the more intentionally boring films ever made, Star Trek: The Motion Picture features some of the more amazing science fiction special effects. The work Douglas Trumbull does in this film is without equal--he makes the unimaginable visual. It’s astounding (and I was watching the pan-and-scan only “Special Longer Version” and it still looked amazing). So, since Trumbull did all the special effects and Jerry Goldsmith’s music went to all those special effects, it was kind of hard to figure out what--if anything--Robert Wise contributed to the film.
Simply put, he made it real. The Enterprise actually seemed to function on a believable level, people walking around doing menial, but necessary, tasks. Shatner and Kelley have a cup of coffee at one point, because they’ve been up forty hours straight. That cup of coffee is a significant contribution, because even though Star Trek fails in the final act, the film’s more about the journey than the outco | | By: The Stop Button | | |

| Star Trek Red Shirts | | 2007-12-02 23:26:14 | | It’s the sixties. You answer a casting call from the TV series Star Trek. You hope that this will be a permanent gig, since those are hard to come by for struggling actors. You haven’t received your lines yet, but wardrobe is ready for you. They hand you a red shirt and say “Welcome to the Enterprise.” Right then and there, you know that this is a one-day job. You are a Red Shirt. Your entire role is to join the landing party in the transporter room, beam down to the planet, and die as soon as the armed residents see you. Back to the temp agency for you! The term red shirt became used in other arenas besides Star Trek to denote a character (not an actor) who was written into a plot specifically to be killed off. This led to the Red Shirt Effect, defined by Uncyclopedia as “the popular name for induced apathia, a phenomenon that allows people to encounter death and suffering of others with little emotional energy.” It&rsquo | | By: Miss Cellania | | |

| Reality moves a bit closer to Star Trek. | | 2007-11-19 03:14:00 | | Reality moves a bit closer to Star Trek.I popped onto Amazon.com just now to update my wish list, and was in for a new discovery: the Amazon Kindle. The Kindle is a real-life version of a PADD. Remember watching Picard read Shakespeare in his ready room from a little computer screen? That computer screen now holds 200 books, newspapers, and magazines and connects to the internet via a free wireless service that doesn't require Wi-Fi (Amazon says it's similar to the technology used on cell phones, but with no service fees). Apparently the screen is highly readable, though it's difficult to say how well that works without having tried one. What I do find interesting is the easy portability of hundreds of books--as my roommate will attest (after moving many boxes of them into our third-floor apartment), I have a sizable collection. And while I don't foresee thinning out the shelves (ever--there's something comforting and homey about having shelves full of good books), they are rather heavy, and traveling with a little notebook-sized device would be much easier than traveling with 3-4 books in a bag.So here's to the future and digital libraries. Though they won't be as aesthetically pleasing as their predecessors, I suppose it had to happen sometime. The Kindle is a step up from trying to read on the likes of a cell phone or Palm Pilot. | | By: DawnXianaMoon.com: Randomness | | |

(fuente: scifi)Blogalaxia: espectrografo masas RF tricorder start trek tecnologia deteccion ~ Technorati: espectrografo masas RF tricorder start trek tecnologia deteccion ~ AgregaX: espectrografo | | By: mas Tecno | | |

| A New Star Trek Movie? | | 2007-03-09 05:39:00 | | A New Star Trek Movie?IGN announced details about a new Star Trek film in the works. Frankly, it sounds terrible."Orci and Kurtzman … confirmed that the film is not in any way a prequel but a reimagining of the franchise," says MTV.com, which also adds that the plan is to simply call the film Star Trek -- with no subtitles, Roman numerals, or colons anywhere in the name. The writers don't seem to realize that the first film was called Star Trek the Motion Picture. That's about as simple a name as you can get. It didn't have a Roman numeral either. Orci and Kurtzman have to realize that for the sake of clarity (there are, after all, 10 movies already) fans and probably critics will refer to the film as "Star Trek XI," with or without the Roman numeral, whether or not the writers acknowledge it. And as much as I like Adrian Brody, Gary Sinise, et al., I can't imagine anyone else playing the original characters.
