| Skogskyrkogården – The Woodland Cemetery in Stockholm | | 2008-08-24 18:08:03 | | When in 1994 the Woodland Cemetery in Stockholm was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list, it immediately made me wonder if perhaps there was an acute shortage of more worthy sites. The cemetery is lovely, green and big, but it’s just that – a cemetery. The lady at the Stockholm Tourist Office tried her [...] | | By: Europe a la Carte Blog | | |
| | Hotel Review - Crystal Plaza in Stockholm | | 2008-08-03 18:02:11 | | Crystal Plaza Hotel in Stockholm (Birger Jarlsgatan 35, 111 45 Stockholm) is one of the Excellence Hotels properties, which judging from the Crystal Plaza example, are excellent only in the name.
The hotel has 111 rooms, but if you are a lone traveler like myself, you will most likely be spending your nights in a hole [...] | | By: Europe a la Carte Blog

| Stockholm’s Strange Spirit | | 2008-04-01 09:54:41 | | Businessman Oscar Dios has decided to stick with Stockholm’s rather odd and unconventional hotel traditions by opening a hostel. The actual hostel is not what is in question here but its location is quite unusual by traditional standards.
Set to open in May 2008, the hostel will be located inside of a converted Boeing 747. It [...] | | By: Compare hotels
| | Wednesday, March 26th, 2008: Rest in peace, John Aherne - A day of sadness in Helsingborg, Stockholm, and Wicklow, Ireland | | 2008-03-26 08:36:00 | | What I think:I'm very sad to relay the news that John Aherne, an Irish tourist who went missing in Stockholm over St Patrick's Day weekend, has drowned. His body was recovered just before midday in the water at Norra Hammarby harbour, in the southern part of central Stockholm.I'd written a couple of posts about John's mysterious disappearance, and had been hoping that he would be found safe and well. This is truly tragic, and my deepest heartfelt condolences go out to John's family and friends. The events, from when John went missing, to when the news broke, and leading right up until I sit here writing this, are covered quite touchingly on the discussion forum on The Local (Sweden's news in English). It starts with Karl (John's host in Stockholm) explaining the circumstances surrounding John's disappearance, and the other regulars then offer help, support, hope and prayers (which they maintain throughout). The forum is then visited by many, many people from Ireland, some of whom take | | By: Mark Base - Helsingblog | | |
| | Thursday, March 20th, 2008: Desperately seeking John Aherne: Irish tourist missing in Stockholm | | 2008-03-20 09:56:00 | | What I think: OK, I know I haven't blogged for a long while, and I will get around to doing a "normal" post at sometime in the near future (I promise), but I want to take this opportunity to spread the word about an Irish tourist who went missing in Stockholm last Saturday night. John Aherne was over from Ireland, visiting his friend Karl. During an evening out together with a group of friends, John decided to leave the group and head back to Karl's (Karl had given him some spare keys). He stopped for a nightcap at the restaurant on the ground floor of Karl's flat. While he was there, he just popped out for a smoke - leaving his coat and mobile at the bar - and has not been seen since. This was in the southern part of the city, on Katarina Bangata.I "know" Karl through the discussion forum on thelocal.se (Sweden's news in English). See the links below for more information, and if you know people living in that area, please pass this on.The Local's discussion forum:http://www.theloc | | By: Mark Base - Helsingblog | | |

| | Stockholm Syndrome | | 2007-05-11 07:52:00 | | Penny, as a two year old, you can be a real hassle. I thought when I shipped you off to Texas last week to stay with your grandparents I'd enjoy the break from your mischievous antics. I'd have chance to nap, shop, drool, or whatever else I thought I'd been missing out on. But much to my shock I spent a good amount of the time thinking of you. Your grandpa is bringing you back home tomorrow and it's a good thing too because I've been nostalgic the past few days. I find myself missing the weirdest things... I miss chasing you across the park as you make a break for the sleeping homeless man because you want to "snuggle" with him.I miss correcting you when you yell, "DANGIT" every time you drop something.I miss coming in after your nap and finding that instead of sleeping, you have taken the afternoon to paint your entire body with poop.I miss soiling all my towels to mop up the flooded bathroom after you have overfilled the bathroom sink yet again.I miss you yelling from my room, | | By: Hollywood Flakes: Get 'em While They're Hot | | |
| | Saturday, October 14th, 2006: Helsingborg to Stockholm: A weekend adventure | | 2006-10-14 15:06:00 | | What I think:
Firstly, I must convey a very Happy Birthday to my big sister:
Sis, when we were younger, I thought you were a total bitch, and completely unbalanced - especially for a Libra. But now I think you're OK, and I hope you have a good one.
Now that that's out of the way, here's a post about a trip I took to Stockholm last weekend (October 6th-8th, 2006). The purpose of my trip was | | By: Mark Base - Helsingblog
