| Storms In Omaha! | | 2008-06-28 18:07:12 | | Severe storms with winds reaching 80 or 90 mph swept through Omaha yesterday, knocking down trees across the metro and damaging buildings and homes. Two teens were killed across the river in Iowa when a tree fell onto their car. A downtown arts festival was essentially blown away and the Qwest Center, where Olympic swim trials are to start next week, sustained damage as well. We lost power around 4:30pm yesterday and were without it for nearly 20 hours. Thousands are still without electricity and reports suggest some may be for more than a week.The damage was simply amazing as we walked around the neighborhood yesterday. Trees were uprooted everywhere and power lines dangled in the streets.

We know what's happening...they don't.The most important thing to do is basically not do anything. When the lightning strikes...stay calm. When the thunder rages, don't move...act like it's an everyday activity. My oldest was used to them but the youngest peed everywhere whenever a storm hit. So when a storm came around and he looked to me for direction, I did nothing. I acted as if it didn't matter. After the first two times, he lifted his head to watch my reaction and, when there was none, went calmly went back to sleep. Pets mimic our behavior. If we freak out, they freak out.
