Anne Carrington Billy Brush's last album, Lair, was released in 2005, and reached the rank of #4 on the KUCR charts in Riverside, CA. But in spite of the two-year hiatus, he hasn't lost his touch with the debut CD with his new band, named, well, Brush. The group consists of the Billy Brush as the front man and fellow members John Buroker (bass), Dave Elvin (drums), Eric Johnson (guitar) and Sam Gray (synthesizer and laptop) Along with Billy Brush, they have proven that they have the chops to take Love Sublime all the way up to the top and reach a massive nationwide audience in the process. Love Sublime contains hints of the Eurythmics and Depeche Mode, with touches of R.E.M, Nine Inch Nails, and New Order sprinkled in. The title track, as well as "My Couch," have the same simplistic sounds; at the same time, they bring the band into another territory. "BluDiamond" is a track with an electronic sound with a twist of a disco-like bass line and "Typical Man" is another excellent piece of work that everyone can get behind. In a nutshell, all ten tracks are splendid examples of the unique sound that Brush has to offer, the net effect being that of a band that can bring a great deal to the table for both a live audience and CD listeners alike. The disaffected vocals, combined with the synth effects and the grit of the guitars, Brush has their hit with this CD, and should use this blend on their future endeavors. It may not work for many other acts--be they indie or mainstream--but Brush just pulls it off perfectly.
