On Friday, Natalie had an eye appointment and we discovered she needs glasses. She was so hoping for this. So after her exam, we had to pick out new glasses. When we got home from the appointment, she started calling all her friends to tell the the good news. I wonder how long she will willingly wear them?Natalie and I took the dog to St. Joseph to walk on the bluff this weekend. It was a bit chilly with the wind coming off the lake. The dog certainly enjoyed the fresh air, and I was happy that she behaved herself. Blueberry made it another week and seems to be going strong. In the case of internet business people, it is TOP location in the search engines they are willing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for.Now for those Filipinos who are into this SEO and SEM stuff, this means thousands of dollars in earnings if they are successfully hired to "optimize" a website owners site. I'm not kidding! I know some Pinoys who are quietly making their fortune through these stuff! In fact, I'm into SEO and SEM myself! I started blogging about the Olympics as a way to capture the huge internet search traffic that the 2008 Olympics will generate for next year! But what's in it for me people may ask? Making money ofcourse! When people visting my Olympics Blog click on the ads I have all over my blog, I earn some money. Every time someone signs-up through my referral ads in my blog, I earn some money. Every time, I write a review for a website or blog, I earn some money. When people buy Olympics stuff I advertise on my blog, I earn some money. Even when people watch celebrity news videos I have on the bottom of my blog, I earn some money! There's a lot of ways of earning extra cash in blogging. In these past few days alone, I have earned 40 dollars just by writing reviews. The best part about it is it only took me a total of 3 hours to do it. Really easy!Even with the limited SEO knowledge I have, I'm expecting huge traffic for next year. That's because I have high search engine rankings for some good keywords. For example, if people search for the term Olympic Blogger in any search engine, my blog comes on top. It's the same if other people search for best Olympic blog or top Olympic blog, my blog is always on top of the rankings. Sunshine appears to be an amalgam of Alien, 2001 and Event Horizon (at least, if Event Horizon's previews adequately communicate the film's content, not having seen it). There are Alien references abound, a handful of 2001 ones, and no Event Horizon ones I'm aware of... I imagine they'd try to hide those as well as possible. It also owes more than a little to Solaris--both versions. And for the majority of Sunshine, it's a frequent disappointment. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland--after 28 Days Later...--doing sci-fi doesn't make much sense, especially since the resulting Sunshine is a standard science fiction movie, as opposed to Days doing something different, both in terms of story and technology.

Calling Little Miss Sunshine an independent film--regardless of its Fox Searchlight banner at the front--is a misnomer. While the financing might not have come through the traditional channels, it's got a very high profile cast and its content is about on par with, say, Miramax films of the late 1990s, which means it's on par with non-Miramax films of every year before 1996 or so. Whenever everyone else gave up. It's a very traditional story. It doesn't introduce any new filmmaking techniques and the very nice and effective editing style is probably about forty years old. Maybe even longer, I was only taking Hollywood movies into account.
But--we don't get to see movies like Little Miss Sunshine much anymore. Independent movies with every adult in this cast--with the exception of Steve Carell I think--go straight to video. Like aprons, they're another vintage textile that's irresistably cute & charming and hard to pass up. And they usually come in big bunches through an estate and every lady seemed to have them, often in copious amounts, evidently.What's great about that is many, many were stored away & never used (cause truly who wants a really used one now anyway) and they are made of some very fine fabrics - delicate cotton voiles from Switzerland, linen from Ireland and silks with intricate embroideries & patterns, etc. Some are fairly collectible for obvious reasons - they were designed by well known textile designers of the day who put a fair amount of artistry into the small square of fabric. Some are unique souvenir pieces from distant, visited places, some were brought back by sweethearts during the war, some commemorate holidays.Another great aspect of vintage hankies is they're rather inexpensive and still fairly common - so if you're thinking of jumping into the great and wondrous sea of collecting - starting a vintage hankie collection is great way to stick your big toe in.So I will be adding a selection of a few of some of my favorites - the 40s/50s era brightly colored cotton florals. They have the same appeal to me as do the printed cotton tablecloths of that era - conjuring up cheery warm feelings of home.And here's a link to an article with some fine suggestions for uses for them, from window valences to basket liners. Surely we don't want to use them for their original intended purpose (that's unsanitary by today's standards) and these days waving one around in the air & nonchalantly letting it flutter to the ground in view of a desirable male member of the species won't likely illicit the intended response.
