| Jacksonville Dosen’t Look Like a Super Bowl Team…Yet | | 2008-08-27 13:42:58 | | Let me preface this by saying that the bar has been set much higher for the Jaguars this year. Being in the mix for a playoff spot isn’t enough. This off-season, championship expectations developed and so it is against that backdrop that I say this.
The Jaguars don’t strike me as a championship team.
Here’s why:

| Funny Jokes - Super Bowl | | 2008-08-09 08:34:27 | | A man goes to the Super Bowl but his tickets are for the upper tier. He spots an open seat on the 50-yard line and grabs it.The guy sitting next to him says, “Actually, this seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Super Bowl we haven’t been to together since we got married in 1967.”“I’m sorry to hear that,” says the first man. “Couldn’t you find a friend or relative to come with you?”“Nope,” replies the second guy. “Everyone’s at the funeral.”

| Best Super Bowl chance: Brees or Rivers? | | 2008-07-22 11:27:00 | | Of the first three quarterbacks taken in the 2004 NFL draft, two have won Super Bowls and one has not.The haves are Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Eli Manning of the New York Giants. The have not is Philip Rivers of the Chargers. Now another question looms on the horizon: Which of the last two Chargers’ starting quarterbacks will win a Super Bowl first? Will it be Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints or Rivers?Brees took the Saints to the 2006 NFC championship game; Rivers led the Chargers to the 2007 AFC championship game.Neither has played in the Super Bowl.We know for a fact that Rivers has the cast around him to reach this season’s Super Bowl.Ditto with Brees in New Orleans; especially now that the Saints have traded for former New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey.Who will win the Super Bowl first? Brees or Rivers? It’s your call. | | By: San Diego Sporting | | |

| Chargers: Super close, or Super Bowl? | | 2008-07-21 10:47:00 | | The Chargers are going to be one of two things this season:Either they will continue being the Don Coryell-style Chargers of the old days, or they will finally become the Indianapolis Colts. The Coryell Chargers?Like the current edition, they had great talent, went well into the playoffs but never made the Super Bowl. The Colts? They couldn’t beat the New England Patriots for years before finally besting them in the AFC championship on their way to a Super Bowl title two seasons ago.The Chargers certainly have the firepower with LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates, Philip Rivers, Chris Chambers, et al on offense. And the defense is top-notch with the likes of Jamal Williams, Shawne Merriman and Antonio Cromartie.Perhaps the biggest question mark the Chargers face as rookie training camp begins today focuses on injuries.Center Nick Hardwick, tight end Gates and nose tackle Williams are all still nursing hurts from last season. Their progress could determine early-on how well the Chargers | | By: San Diego Sporting | | |

| Super Bowl MVP apparently does not equal respect | | 2008-07-16 06:00:06 | |
Here we go again with the lack of respect for Eli Manning!
The Sporting News is out with its rankings of the top 25 quarterbacks in the NFL. Eli is ranked 12th, and looking at the list just makes me shake my head.
Without even looking, I'm sure you can guess that Tony Romo is ranked ahead of Eli. If you guessed that, you'd be right. Romo is No. 7 on this list.
Romo being ranked ahead of Eli doesn't bug me as much as you might think. I'm getting used to the supposed "experts" being fooled by Romo's numbers and his celebrity status, and forgetting the bottom line -- which is that Eli has gotten the job done when it counts and playboy Romo hasn't.
It's several of the other names ahead of Eli that really have me ticked off.
Brett Favre at No. 8. Sorry, but how can Favre even be on this list? Technically, he's not even in the league. Even if he was, or is, or will be again sometime soon, he's not the Favre of his glory days. Will he play like he did last season (66.5% completions, 28 TDs | | By: Big Blue View

| IRS Spending As Much on Publicizing and Processing Stimulus Rebate Checks as Was Spent on Super Bowl Ads: $200 Million | | 2008-03-28 00:00:00 | | "Dear Taxpayer," it starts off. "We are pleased to inform you that the United States Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed into law the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, which provides for economic stimulus payments to be made to over 130 million American households. Under this new law, you may be entitled to a payment of up to $600 ($1,200 if filing a joint return), plus additional amounts for each qualifying child." You might have received this junk-mail-esque notice in the mail the other day. You probably did, in fact, because the IRS spent $42 million mailing them: essentially taxpayer-funded campaign ads for incumbent politicians. And that $42 million is just to mail notices that the checks will be mailed in a few months, not the rebate checks themselves. The notice doesn't even tell you how much you'll be getting or when it will be mailed, making it less informative than these Tax Foundation blog posts. | The Rodney Dangerfield of Super Bowl champs | | 2008-03-26 07:41:13 | | In a diary entry Tuesday, 'SBaker' points out that Yahoo! Sports did not show your defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants much respect in its first set of 2008 pre-season rankings. Yahoo's Charles Robinson (who is he, anyway?) has the Giants ranked seventh -- with Indianapolis, New England, Dallas, San Diego, Jacksonsville and Cleveland (you freakin' have to be kidding me) ranked above New York. Umm, Mr. Robinson, can I please get some of whatever you have been smoking? Are you serious, with Dallas, San Diego, Jacksonville and Cleveland (Cleveland, for chrissakes!) ahead of the Super Bowl champs? Here is what this yahoo said about the Giants. Giants fans seem to think last season's Super Bowl win translates into automatic success in 2008. But the division is still brutal, and some players tend to slack off the year after getting a ring. Don't be surprised if turmoil returns again with a slow start. Ahh, Mr. Robinson, what Giants fans have you been talking to? And | | By: Big Blue View | | |

| Some interesting Super Bowl reading | | 2008-02-15 08:24:16 | | I came across a couple of very interesting articles on Super Bowl XLII heroes David Tyree and Justin Tuck yesterday. First Tyree. His amazing over the shoulder against the helmet catch on the game-winning drive hasn't got a fancy name like Dwight Clark's 1981 'Catch.' But, if you ask Clark, that doesn't make it any less spectacular. "I was there to see it," Clark said of Tyree's 32-yard catch on the game-winning drive. "I thought it was spectacular when I saw it live, but when I caught it on replay it was one of the most unbelievable things I've ever witnessed. To hold the ball like that when he was hit by the defender, and then to have the strength to hold it against his helmet and reach out with his other hand to make sure the ball never hit the ground ... it has to be the greatest catch ever made. Definitely one of the top two or three." Clark also knows that Tyree's catch has changed his life forever, just as the 1981 catch of a Joe Montana pass changed his. "The New York Giants win over the New England Patriots was the most-watched Super Bowl ever, with 97.5 million viewers.Nielsen Media Research says the game eclipsed the previous record of 94.08 million, set when Dallas faced Pittsburgh in 1996.More people watched Sunday night's game than all but one American television broadcast ever-the "M-A-S-H" finale in 1983, which was seen by 106 million viewers. The game had almost all the ingredients Fox could have hoped for: a tight contest with an exciting finish involving a team that tried and failed to make history as the NFL's first unbeaten team since 1972."Peter here. | Super Bowl Commercial | | 2008-02-04 14:09:16 | | I had to post one of my favorites. Being a mother of 3 kids means that I have a few back seat drivers. My kids always ask me, "Mom did you hit it? Did it get out of the way?" So when I saw this commercial I laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes and my belly ached! Here is the link to the commercial...I hope you find it as entertaining as I did! It is titled "SCREAM" Since I am still pretty new at this blog thing I have to put a link for your viewing pleasure. | Giants SHOCK Patriots And Win Super Bowl | | 2008-02-04 05:19:00 | | The New York Giants are the World Champions after they beat the previously undefeated New England Patriots by a score of 17-14. The Giant's defensive coordinator outcoached defensive specialist Bill Belichick, using a vast array of blitzes to keep the pressure on Tom Brady and his offensive line as they held the record-setting Patriots' offense to a mere two touchdowns. The fourth quarter started with a 7-3 score, but MVP Eli Manning twice marched his team down the field for touchdowns, and the Patriots could not retaliate. In one remarkable play, Manning thrice avoided being tackled, which would have spelled doom for the Giants and an undefeated season for New England. Somehow, someway he emerged from the pack of would-be tacklers and connected to Plaxico Burress. That was a miracle play, and I must congratulate the New York Giants, their coaches and their fans. Wow, what a great game! And the fourth quarter was one for the ages. Finally, a Super Bowl that was better than the commerci | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| Super Bowl XLII: A Tale Of A Sore Loser | | 2008-02-04 00:54:00 | | It doesn't seem to matter what area of endeavor a person falls into. It doesn't matter if your male or female. Be you black, white, asian, whathaveyou, you have a roll to play. Play it you should, and you should play it with good sportsmanship and upstanding conduct. EVEN IF, you happen to lose. But we don't see things that way anymore in America it seems. More often than not, turned up noses prevail. Backs get turned, names get tossed, and tantrums (oh boy, the tantrums) get thrown. Makes me wanna start carrying around a huge box of diapers to toss to those whom have chosen "the path."We saw it during the 2000 election, when Al Gore got beat down for the presidency. | Super Bowl Sunday February 3, 2008...And A Super Pick | | 2008-02-03 04:58:00 | | Good morning on this Super Bowl Sunday. The kickoff of the game is scheduled for 6:18PM EST, and I can't wait. This yearly extravaganza marks the end of the football mindset of American sports fans and the beginning of baseball hopes and dreams for all. Being a Red Sox fan, 2008 promises to be a year filled with surprises and realistic hope, for the Boston Red Sox are indeed the favorites to take it all home yet again. Wouldn't that be nice! But today, if only for a post or two, my thoughts are centered on the big game between the surprising New York Giants and the unblemished and undefeated New England Patriots. If the Pats win, they would finish the season undefeated, with a 19-0 record. Nobody will surpass that mark. EVER. The Brady injury, if it WAS an injury, will not affect the outcome of the game. Not one whit. But if the Giant's Plaxico Burress, said to have ankle and knee woes, is in any way hampered by his injuries, New York would be in trouble. BIG TROUBLE. | Super Bowl Sunday Day Trip Southern California | | 2008-02-01 08:21:00 | | This Sunday most people will be staying at home or heading to a Super Bowl party which leaves the roads and highways wide open. If you are not a football fan Super Bowl Sunday is just about the best day of the year to head out on a day trip. Last year we went to see the USS Midway Aircraft Museum in San Diego. The drive from Orange County to San Diego can take up to three hours on a normal day. We made the trip down to the museum in under one and a half hours. The freeway was wide open and average speed 80 miles an hour. Parking was a breeze and thier was no waiting for a bay front table at Anthony's Fish Grotto for lunch. For a desert day trip a good bet is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway >. If you decide to go be sure to bring warm clothing there is plenty of snow on top of the San Jacinto mountains this time of the year. North of Los Angeles a trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo should be possible with minimal traffic. A reporter dressed in a wedding dress was asking players, such as Tom Brady and Deion Sanders, if they would marry her. This is becoming an embarrassment if you ask me. | | By: West Coast Bias | | |

| Super Bowl XLII | | 2008-01-19 18:52:00 | | This blog post is simply stating that I am going on record as predicting the New England Patriots over the Green Bay Packers in a close game, highlighted by a classic shootout between Brett Favre and Tom Brady. This will provide Brett Favre and his young teammates the necessary motivation to return to the Super Bowl next year and come away victoriously allowing Brett to retire on top. This will cap off the Patriots record shattering perfect season in the grandest of fashions.I predicted the Patriots would win the Super Bowl this year the second I first caught wind of the Randy Moss draft day trade and never looked back. I didn't choose the Packers as my NFC representative until week 8 or 9 and even then had my doubts about if they could beat the Cowboys but that doubt was settled after the two teams met and the Packers were able to keep the game close despite cornerback Charles Woodson and defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila sitting the game out injured as well as Brett Favre being k | | By: Sunrise on the Sufferbus | | |

| Ad Wars: Giuliani's "Super Bowl" | | 2008-01-10 14:16:20 | | Rudy GiulianiThe Giuliani is airing a new ad, "Super Bowl," in Florida. The message of the ad? Ignore the results thus far. Giuliani is trying to convince voters that momentum heading into the Sunshine State doesn't matter. Of course, after Giuliani finished sixth in Iowa and barely edged out Ron Paul for fourth in New Hampshire, forgetting the early results is exactly what he wants everyone to do. Michigan PrimaryHonoring a pledge to campaign only in the original early voting states (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina), Barack Obama and John Edwards will not appear on the ballot in Michigan. Hillary Clinton will be the only major candidate on the ballot for state Democrats, so some have started a campaign urging non-Clinton supporters to vote "uncommitted" in next week's primary. A ruling by the Democratic National Committee has stripped the state of all its delegates, making any victory there essentially useless. Mitt RomneyThe Romney campaign is airing a new radio ad, "Michigan Values," that features Michigan Congressman Pete Hoekstra and his wife. Senate Watch: MinnesotaDemocrat Mike Ciresi is taking to the air waves in Minnesota, hoping to win the party's nomination over Al Franken. In the first spot, "Middle," Ciresi equates Republican incumbent Norm Coleman with President Bush and focuses on the middle class. The second spot, "Change," highlights Ciresi's fight against the special interests. | | By: Political Realm | | |

| His name is Jack Del Rio, Coaching toward the Super Bowl: Press Conference | | 2008-01-07 16:51:52 | | This is Fan-Tastic! Ryan Parker sent this to me, and it's worth watching. To go with this, here's your Monday Afternoon Press Conference With Jack Del Rio That was a huge, huge win last night. Certainly a great experience for us, and what a thrill. Finishing that ballgame, that was a thrilling finish and it took everything
it took a complete effort from our football team. As we have had all year, we had guys step up. We lose John Henderson early in the game, a guy like Derek Landri steps up and ends up getting a hat trick. He gets a sack, an interception, and recovered a fumble at the end of the game. Just a great example of the way weve had guys all year - step up, step in, play well and help us win, and Im really for him and happy for our team. Eight teams after today will go on into next weekends ballgames. Were one of those eight; were proud of that. We understand regardless of who we draw next week, and thatll be determined later today, regardles | | By: Big Cat Country - An Unoffical Jacksonville Jaguar

| Super Bowl Showdown Between Lesnar And Mir Is Set | | 2007-11-07 14:54:03 | | For Brock Lesnar's first foray into the world's premiere MMA organization, he'll take on former champ Frank Mir on the night before Super Bowl LXI. It's a match up of future vs. past and could end up headlining the UFC 81 card.Lesnar, a highly decorated collegiate wrestler, made his transition to MMA with the destruction of Min Soo Kim in 69 seconds. Due to this limited introduction, we only know that he has incredible strength and even better take downs. However, this might be enough to beat Mir, who hasn't looked impressive since 2004 when he submitted Tim Sylvia in 50 seconds to win the title.Following that win, Mir was involved in a motorcycle accident and had to relinquish the title. He's been just 2-2 since then, with both losses coming by first round knockout. Dana White is right. This is an interesting match up. But it's certainly not a blockbuster and shouldn't headline a pre-SB card which could draw huge buys solely on its timing. The blockbuster, if one exists | | By: The Irish Whip | | |

| State won’t pay Super Bowl Public-Safety Costs | | 2007-06-24 21:18:50 | | Tha Arizona Republic has learned that the City of Glendale is on its own to cover an estimated $2.2 million in public-safety expenses for the 2008 Super Bowl as legislators this week rejected a proposal for the state to share the financial burden. Senate Bill 1353, lying dormant for months, was revived Wednesday when it sailed through the House. But the measure wound up two votes short in the Senate just hours before the close of session Wednesday night. Under the proposal, the state would have shared half the cost of providing public-safety services with any city hosting a mega-event like the Super Bowl.
Rep. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, a former lawman, introduced the measure, with strong support from Sen. Robert Blendu and Rep. John Nelson, whose districts include Glendale, home of the Cardinals’ stadium (The University of Phoenix Stadium). But two Glendale-area lawmakers - Sen. Jack Harper and Sen. Linda Gray - were absent, and Sen. Bob Burns, R-Peoria, voted | | By: NFL GridIron Gab

| NFL Super Bowl Ad Rights Holders’ Unhappy | | 2007-06-19 16:58:38 | |
The National Football League’s TV rights holders, who pay a combined $3 billion annually to air its games, are angry with the league for not doing more to get its official sponsors to advertise in the Super Bowl, Media Week reports. Airing out feelings that have been festering for a number of years now, the networks say the NFL has made it clear that the increased difficulty in selling ads in the Super Bowl is their problem. The networks grumble that official sponsors of the other professional sports leagues are more active in advertising in big, post-season events like Major League Baseball’s World Series and the National Basketball Association Finals than NFL sponsors are in the Super Bowl.
During the most recent Super Bowl telecast on CBS, only six of the NFL’s 21 official sponsors ran ads. (Official sponsor Coors cannot run in the Super Bowl because Anheuser-Busch has exclusive rights in the beer category.) | Super Bowl Returns to Dallas | | 2007-05-24 21:24:03 | | The Super Bowl returns to the Big-D finally, but it’s not certain if the Dallas Cowboys will be in attendance or not. With the completion of the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas not far from Six Flags and the Ballpark at Arlington, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, has insured his place in Cowboys lore. The stadium, which holds over 100,000 fans and two stupendous live-feed video screens, will be ready for the 2009 season. At a cost of somewhere around a billion dollars, Mr. Jones wants to be sure everyone gets a good view of “America’s Team”.
With the tremendous help of former Superbowl MVP and Hall-of-Fame QB Roger Staubach, the stadium was selected over Indianapolis and Arizona. Mr. Staubach was a vital member of the committee that presented the Stadium’s use to the NFL owners and Commissioner Roger Goodell. As the saying goes, “Everything’s bigger in Texas” and it was basically the size of the new stadium and numbers of ticketed fans able to attend that | | By: NFL GridIron Gab
