Cosmetic Surgery Appeal – From One Coast Of The Atlantic To Another
    2008-07-21 23:26:00
Critics might be concerned about the portrayal of beauty in UK reality shows, but if there is one thing they are convinced about, it is the European concept of beauty. Something that they don't take very lightly. The good thing about such a mindset is that many Europeans and the British in particular are heading to the States in an effort to preserve their beauty and save a few bucks while they are at it. The Wall Street Journal noticed this change and reported on it earlier this month. The savings they say, amount to nearly 25 percent and are literally a fraction of what patients pay in Europe on plastic surgery. The American dollar is to blame for this trend, as it has fallen 25 percent against the Euro and eleven percent against the British pound. Quite a sizable difference and one that the Europeans are enjoying to their hearts', or should we say, to their body's content!Fortuitously, for the cosmetic surgery profession in the U.S., the benefits are many. Not only are ther

Of Titanium, Boxers & Chin Surgery
    2008-07-18 08:10:00
A friend of mine recently announced his intentions of enrolling for kick boxing classes and all I could think of was the punches and black eyes that (I feel) are so common to this sport.Apart from my unfamiliarity with the sport, I do know that boxing is a pretty rough activity and that both professional and amateur boxers more often than not, have to take a punch to the face. The good thing is that there is always reconstructive surgery or cosmetic surgery to repair most of the damage.I dug a little further and came across a professional boxer who took a punch to her chin and suffered a split jaw for it. (Note: Link contains gory pictures)Kim Couture is as gutsy as they come and fits the gorgeous sportswoman image to the tee.Kim recently suffered an injury to her jaw during her MMA pro debut spar with her opponent Kim Rose and had to have a chin surgery fix her jaw. The surgery was more corrective than cosmetic and required Kim to be fitted with a titanium plate held tog

Is Plastic Surgery Immoral? What World Religions Have to Say
    2008-07-17 02:50:00
By Andrea UseemGiving birth to three healthy boys was priceless. Having an incurably squishy tummy to show for it is embarrassing. And I admit that after inflating and deflating the balloon that is my belly three times, the idea of getting a tummy tuck does sometimes cross my mind. But I worry that altering my body for vanity is wrong.Oprah says cosmetic surgery isn’t something women should be ashamed of, but still, the idea of spending thousands of dollars and undergoing surgery simply to look better doesn’t sit right with me. Since I’m a religious person who tends to think in moral terms, I called up bioethicist Arthur Caplan to get some perspective. Read More

    Zilla may need surgery
    2008-07-16 16:44:00
From Ed Price:Season-ending surgery on Hideki Matsui's left knee is more likely than ever.Matsui, who has not played for the Yankees since June 22, has a recurrence of swelling in his knee and will fly back to New York today to be re-examined by team physician Stuart Hershon on Friday. He had been in Tampa, Fla., trying to work back from the injury."To me it's not a good sign," manager Joe Girardi said. "I don't know what the approach is, but obviously you can't expect him (back) any time soon."General manager Brian Cashman said surgery for Matsui is "certainly possible," and that if it is needed, it would end Matsui's season. The Yankees seem to be leaning toward draining the knee and letting Matsui make one more attempt to come back without surgery."I don't think Matsui's situation would prompt me to look for an outfielder," Cashman said. "These are significant losses, Matsui and Damon, but we've got people I believe can step in and plug those holes. And if I run into something (outs

Your Plastic Surgery Procedure Could Help Cure Your Migrane
    2008-07-15 23:55:00
Anybody who has experienced a migraine will agree that it bestows just about the most awful pain ever on a person. The corrugator supercilii muscle that occurs in the forehead region is believed to be a key player in why people suffer from migraines. Cosmetic surgeons recently discovered a cosmetic surgery technique that can reduce this problem and probably do away with it completely.Usually removed to reduce the frown lines that occur as people age, the corrugator supercilii muscle's absence was found to bring relief to many candidates who faced migraine problems. The removal reduced the pressure placed on the nerves in the forehead area and as a result, relieved the candidate from the splitting and at times nauseous headaches that characterize a migraine. At this point, I would have to point out that not everyone is a candidate for this plastic surgery technique.Plastic surgeons have to administer a dose of botulinum toxin in order to ascertain the candidate's suitability f

Stem Cells For Nose Surgery? Probably
    2008-07-15 23:43:00
Stem cell research has been on for at least two decades now and has made tremendous headway in biological and other related medical studies.Generally, research utilizes two kinds of stem cells- embryonic and adult stem cells. While human embryonic stem cells (isolated from human embryos) are a largely controversial field, studies continue.Plastic surgery procedures like nose enhancement and corrective nose surgery could benefit from adult stem cells that occur in the adult human body and display the potential to reconstruct lost tissue or grow it non-invasively. Certain reconstructive nose implant procedures make use of synthetic materials like silicone, which could be substituted with inherently cultivated stem cell implants.Over a period of time, soft tissue implants tend to lose at least 40-60 percent of their total volume. Stem cells, on the other hand, once they have generated the final size and shape of the tissue mass (bone, fat, cartilage, etc.) could reta

    Why Politicians Love Eyelid Surgery
    2008-07-15 08:22:00
The caretakers are taken a bit more seriously when they take care of themselves. Nobody liked Hillary Clinton when she was looking her age- she was just a former First Lady. When she commenced campaigning for Presidency of the United States, she had to do some major image revamping before the nation cozened up to her. Take Carla Bruni, the French president's wife for instance. No matter her avant-garde image and her colorful past, the French simply adore their first lady and for that, so does

These are fun times we are living in and in the age of reality television shows, privacy has been shot out of the window. But that's not really a concern, at least not for the participants who know full well what they have signed the dotted line for. Cosmetic surgery reality shows have been around for quite sometime now and have cashed in on this trend and milked it for what its worth. So when I came across this promotion for a new reality TV about plastic surgery I was not really surprised.

BDD & Chin Surgery – Bad Combination
    2008-07-15 07:20:00
BDD is short for body dysmorphic disorder, a condition that makes a person feel insecure about their body and perceive it to have an excess of flaws. A primarily mental condition, BDD is usually found to affect anyone in their teens or above. A clinic in Victoria, Australia discovered at least 15 percent of patients suffering from this disorder visit plastic surgeons in the hopes of finding an antidote to their 'flaws'. Many of them are quite blessed in the beauty department, but the nature of the disorder is such that they will not rest until they have cosmetic surgery. Facial surgery procedures, such as chin enhancement, cheek implants, etc. are more common among this group of people. Chin surgery doctors need to screen a patient before consenting to perform a chin implant or an enhancement on them. As it is one of the focal points of the face, repeated chin surgery procedures demanded by a BDD patient will result in a weak and shapeless chin. If you have a good chin reduction

    Knee Replacement Surgery
    2008-07-07 21:00:00
Knee replacement, or knee arthroplasty, is a common operation done to relieve the pain and disability from degenerative arthritis, most commonly osteoarthritis, but other arthritides as well.it consists of replacing the diseased and painful joint surfaces of the knee with metal and plastic components shaped to allow continued motion of the knee.Incapacitating pain from arthritis of the knee affecting everyday activities -- particularly walking and standing -- is the main reason to have a total knee replacement. The patient must be aware of the risks of the surgery and be prepared to take those risks rather than continue with the symptoms. The surgery involves exposure of the front of the knee, with detachment of part of the quadriceps muscle (vastus medialis) from the patella. The patella is displaced to one side of the joint allowing exposure of the distal end of the femur and the proximal end of the tibia. The ends of these bones are then accurately cut to shape using cutting guides o

Face Your Own Face With Confidence & Face Lift Surgery
    2008-07-01 01:24:00
If you are like me then the first thing you probably do when you wake up in the morning is glance in the mirror. While on most days my reflection tends to be rather agreeable, there are certainly some days where I simply can't bear to look at myself.   I'm sure all of you would agree with this feeling.   But what if day after day, the image that stares back at you dissatisfies you for some reason or another? It could be a few wrinkles here a droopy, oily nose there, it could be anything.   If you would rather improve this situation you could give some thought to a face lift procedure.   Combine it with treatments like microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, filler treatments, etc. and you could find a fantastic solution to your grief.   Face lift surgery can do wonders for your confidence as well- just like it does for numerous men and women who have a face lift procedure for their professional, personal and social lives.   The cosmetic surg

Making Cosmetic Surgery Interactive: Step By Step
    2008-07-01 01:22:00
You have to grant it to these innovative cosmetic surgeons. A fashion show with cosmetic surgery patients modeling their successful surgeries is right there in the conversation-starter list. A plastic surgeon held a 'coming out' party for patients whose faces and bodies were altered by him in New York earlier in the month. The combination of top-line designers and cosmetic surgery is enough to glamorize the minds of most women and apparently that's exactly what this surgeon had in mind. According to him the show would be able to 'lure new patients that he may not have had otherwise.' The effort to de-glamorize plastic surgery might be commendable but how ethical is it to project such a view? At the Plastic Surgery Institute of California we think it's a great idea arrange for ice breaker events like these cosmetic surgery fashion shows and workshops, but rather than using it as a marketing ploy, it would be better to treat it as a serious step. VBLOCTM Vagal Blocking Therapy – Alternative To Bariatric Surgery
    2008-07-01 01:16:00
The VBLOCTM vagal blocking therapy is touted as one of the most advanced technologies to hit the obesity-reduction market in a long time.   This implantable medical device could remove the need for a bariatric surgery, making it much easier on the patient who is obese or overweight. While not as extreme as any other weight loss surgery, the vagal nerve blocking device nonetheless provides significant weight reduction in the patient.   The device works similar to a heart pacemaker but unlike the latter it makes use of high-frequency electricity to block the nerve impulses between the brain, the tummy and the pancreas. These blocking signals are used to influence how the stomach functions and digests food.   Weight loss surgery is a very common option among patients who want to better their obese bodies. Often cosmetic surgery procedures like tummy tuck surgery or liposuction are used to shape and tone the lumps that result from a weight loss process.   Devi

Eyelid Surgery & Dramatic Eye Makeup – What’s Your Pick?
    2008-07-01 01:14:00
In a shoot for Heat Magazine Myleene Klass primped up for the camera without any makeup. Honestly, she looks so very different from the sophisticate she portrays in her various appearances that she left me puzzled with her appearance.   A look at Myleene's pictures made me pay special attention to her eyes which have an Oriental slant to them and also made me realize that she has a mild lazy eye. With the war paint on she looks like an exotic Hawaiian beach babe and nothing remotely like the mommy she looks like sans makeup.   While makeup is one way to hide raw facial features and enhance them, eyelid surgery is another more permanent way to build up on physical flaws that bother.   As much as people would like to avoid surgery of any kind, there is a sizeable percentage that is drawn to procedures like blepharoplasty. The statistics reported by the ASPS last year uncovered a hefty number of 240,660 people who went in for this procedure alone. The number is proj

Plastic Surgery Update: Liposuction Now By Your Friendly GP
    2008-07-01 01:11:00
Firstly let's get the term GP sorted out.   GPs or general practitioners generally provide primary care to a patient. They are very often the first contact a patient has with a treatment facility or a medical consultation. Family doctors are a common name for them.   While the incredible knowledge a GP possesses is commendable and very trustworthy how far will you go to trust your family doctor to perform a liposuction surgery?   The Health Ministry of Singapore thinks GPs can be trusted to perform a liposuction procedure though and are set to pass a redraft of guidelines for this cosmetic surgery procedure. If the move goes unopposed, GPs will be legalized to administer a liposuction surgery under local anesthesia to remove less than a litre of fat.   As if the liposuction casualties that are reported are not enough to warrant more stringent precautions for plastic surgery. Liposuction being a surgery that is major and complex requires the attentions of a

Economy Rants: Downsizing On Cosmetic Surgery
    2008-07-01 01:09:00
Couple of things going on in our very own US of A brings newer facets of the plastic surgery profession to light.   For instance, there is the fight to hang on to cosmetic surgery by a faithful few. Reuters reported ASDS studied trends that noticed the American economy instead of discouraging people from spending on cosmetic surgery (still a luxury for the masses), is doing just the opposite.   Individuals are downsizing their needs and going in for injectable filler treatments that are less costly then a traditional face lift. Similarly, people are opting for an injection lipolysis instead of a liposuction procedure, a filler treatment for reducing wrinkles instead of an eyelid surgery, and so on.   Dr. Rigel of the ASDS sums it up very succinctly saying, "It's kind of like going from a Cadillac to a Buick."   But how much is this downsizing really helping the smart American? Less expensive and less painful alternatives to various cosmetic surgery proce

Plastic Surgery Reality Show For Indians
    2008-07-01 01:09:00
When shows like Extreme Makeover and Dr. 90210 aired on mainstream television in the US, the dam burst for cosmetic surgery. Perfectly ordinary people were seen stepping up to the cosmetic surgeon's table and emerging as glamorous individuals.   The face of plastic surgery in the US sure received a makeover of its own!   There is a similar wave of change set to attack India, the land of mythology and deep-set Hindu values. Plans are on to air a show called Naya Roop Nayi Zindagi (New Look New Life) which will be shot in Extreme Makeover format.   Just like its Western counterpart, the show is expected to feature Indians from every walk of life getting procedures like a tummy tuck or gynecomastia surgery. While liposuction currently bypasses a tummy tuck surgery in India, this show could just about break a lot of social taboos.   Middle class and urban India is more than prepared for this new wave of change with teenagers already going in for breast surgery

To Live Longer Play Golf. To Look Younger Have Cosmetic Surgery
    2008-07-01 01:07:00
Tiger Woods is gonna be one lucky guy when enters his old age. According to a Swedish study, researchers discovered that golf is very intimately connected to longevity. Who would have thought that this posh (and boring) sport would be the key to live longer!   According to Professor Anders Ahlbom and Bahman Farahmand who helmed the study, "A round of golf means being outside for four or five hours, walking at a fast pace for six to seven kilometres, something which is known to be good for the health."   But what do you do with a long life if you have to enjoy it with a face that looks past its prime?   The way I see it, you have two options- either follow granny's nutrition plan from a very young age or maintain your looks with a little help from plastic surgery! Considering that golf is largely a white collar pastime, regular cosmetic enhancement won't be much of a problem.   But as unbelievable as it may sound for those in the lower income bracket, cosm

Face Surgery And Anesthesia – Now More Pain
    2008-07-01 00:41:00
A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that post-surgery pain heightens if the cosmetic surgery patient has been introduced to general anesthesia.   A procedure like face lift surgery often calls for the doctor to employ complex techniques to reconstruct the patient's face. In reconstructive face lift surgery especially there is often a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures executed to get the desired changes.   Cosmetic surgeons administer general anesthesia if this is the case allowing them to conduct the face surgery or face implant operation while the patient is unconscious.   The research conducted on rats discovered that the chemically irritating anesthesia drugs commonly integrated in general anesthesia can cause pain-sensing nerves strong sensitivity and inflammation.   Most patients will shudder at that and tell their face lift surgeon to use local anesthesia for their plastic surgery. However, it wo

Face Surgery Poster Girl – Debbie Harry
    2008-07-01 00:40:00
This is undoubtedly the biggest testimonial to the benefits of a cosmetic surgery procedure like face lift surgery.   I grew up listening to Blondie and one of the things I enjoyed the most about the band was the lead singer Debbie Harry who was the perfect embodiment of a waif trapped in a body made to ogle. Her strange getups and body language somehow complemented her voice which if I could describe in word would be called 'sweet'.   Debbie has grown up a lot now and is almost 63 but is far from an aging dowager put to pasture. She looks absolutely stunning and ready to give her younger counterparts stiff competition with a face that has been revamped to the last wrinkle.   Face lift surgery could very well be the culprit responsible for Debbie Harris' new look more than the mandatory diet, exercise and workout mantra that are usually touted. Let's see how long Debbie takes to admit to her face lift procedure.   Not an unusual procedure for people over

General Anesthesia & Pronounced Post-Chin Surgery Pain

For most people a chin surgery means a minor cosmetic operation and treat it as just so.While this might hold true for basic chin enhancement work, a more complicated procedure like chin reduction or chin implant surgery to adjust the contours of a chin, involves more complex work.Towards this end, plastic surgeons plan out the procedure and advice the patient on pre and post-surgery care. One of the components of a chin surgery- anesthesia administration, call for acquainting the candidate about the effects and requirements of the step. While local anesthesia is common for outpatient procedures that are basic, general anesthesia is preferred for inpatient treatments or combination chin enhancement procedures.A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that the drugs used for general anesthesia could prove to amplify post-surgery pain after the patient awakes. The research was conducted on mice and brings to light the d

Antibacterial Sutures And Your Eyelid Surgery
    2008-07-01 00:26:00
Usually individuals above the age group of 30 are the favored patrons of an eyelid surgery procedure. Sagging upper lids and baggy lower lids are very common reasons why people in this age group opt for a blepharoplasty. Sadly, it also makes most of these individuals susceptible to contracting an infection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus better known as MRSA or simply 'staph'. At worst, an infection caused by this bacterium can be fatal. One case of staph infection spread fr

(HealthDay News) -- You should do your homework before you elect to have plastic surgery. Here are suggestions on how to prepare for the procedure, courtesy of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons: Research the surgery until you fully understand its possible benefits and risks. Talk to your doctor about what to expect after the surgery, including likely results, how much time it may take you to recover, and what the recovery period will feel like. Talk to other people who have had the procedure to gain their insight. Don't be afraid to discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. Be sure the physician knows your complete medical history. Make sure the surgeon you select is qualified, properly trained, and certified to perform the procedure. -- Diana Kohnle

Older Plastic Surgery Patients & Anesthesia
    2008-06-17 23:45:00
Earlier in the year, researchers at the Duke University Medical Center discovered that patients above 60-years were more at risk for long-term cognitive problems after going through elective surgery procedures. Cosmetic surgery too falls under this classification leading to some amount of concern among individuals who favor it and have had it. The study found a lot of young and middle-aged and elderly patients experiencing postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) when they were discharged. Within three months, patients aged 60 and above were found to exhibit POCD more than the other age groups. While researchers cannot pinpoint the exact causes of POCD, anesthesia administration during surgery is believed to be one of the triggers of this condition. There are some factions that attribute Bill Clinton’s lash out during his wife’s electoral campaign to POCD. While complications from anesthesia are by no means common in everyone in the age around 60, it wouldn’t hurt

Cosmetic Surgery To Remove Female Breasts

Surely that can’t be as shocking as it sounds; after all there are breast cancer patients who have had a mastectomy to remove an affected breast. Or so I thought. But Toyah Wilcox doesn’t have breast cancer and there is nothing wrong with her breasts. All she wants to do is remove her breasts because she “can’t bear them”. According to the 50-year-old, she is all but ready for the plastic surgery procedure but is facing strict opposition from her husband. Toyah, a singer and actress, is a self-declared attention grabber and is aware that she will make headlines if she goes ahead with this unusual breast reduction surgery. Given her lifestyle habits this is not much of a surprise as she has been known to take a diet supplement that boosts collagen growth in the body. The punk rocker has had her share of physical deformities though and in my opinion should be allowed to have a little fun with her body. Toyah was born with a clubbed foot, a twisted spine and some other

Now that might not be the formula for a perfect Hollywood blockbuster, but the movie Matt’s currently filming does have all these ingredients. Matt stars in Bone Deep an action flick that includes T.I. a rapper facing imprisonment for weapons possession. Jezebel calls Matt “the poor man’s Clive Owen” and they couldn’t be less correct in this point. Matt has always portrayed roles that may at best be called eclectic and in the process has left behind his teenage heartthrob status to achieve a more mature look. Chiseled cheekbones and deep-set eyes make Matt perfect for roles spanning from diabolic villains to smooth-talking charmer to the boy-next-door. The nose enhancement surgery he is believed to have had just polished looks that already made women hoot. Nature has created the most beautiful world for us to live in and we can see this proof of beauty in every little thing that we come across. The vivid colors are a treat for every eye and help in understanding our world better. However, when this god gifted vision of ours gets blurred due to weak eyesight, our perception of things around us can also change. Although we have spectacles and contact lenses to help us in our handicap, but even these devices is a necessary burden, nevertheless. The glasses are perched on the nose all day long and without them we feel helpless and same are the case with the contact lenses. Inserting an artificial device in your eyes cannot be all that comfortable, even through the new age soft lenses promise comfort and convenience to the user. Hence, considering all these facts, it would be safe to say that nothing can take the place of natural, perfect vision. So then, why not opt for something that can restore your natural vision conveniently? A lasik eye

The American Economy & Chin Surgery

There are conflicting views on the American economy’s influence on cosmetic surgery and none of them are making it easy on the chin surgery wishful. What a potential candidate for cosmetic chin enhancement needs to remember is the nature and costs involved in this particular surgery. Read on for a better idea.Investors.com reported an analyst speaking for Maxim Group who thinks the cosmetic enhancement business is not one to remain immune to the downturn of the US economy. One of the main reasons cited for this downward spiral is the lack of Medicare or insurance reimbursements for cosmetic surgery.Unlike more complex plastic surgery procedures, chin implant surgery or a chin reduction is performed on a smaller scale. The economy and subsequently your wallet shouldn’t make it a problem to have this particular procedure as the costs run much less for it.What a chin surgery patient needs to remember though is to not consider for even one moment a cheaper alternative or even a plastic

Face Lift Surgery Paragon – Toyah Wilcox
    2008-06-16 06:32:00
Toyah Wilcox is still the zany pop-punk princess she was all those years ago (the 80’s especially) and never fails to miss a chance to shock. Unlike many of her glam counterparts, she has not given up on her looks. Neither has she let her plastic surgeon go berserk on her face. The face lift surgery she had without her husband’s knowledge stands testimony to her makeover and her un-50-like looks. While the tell-tale signs of aging can be seen just lurking around a faint wrinkle, Toyah’s face is far from crinkled with them. Toyah was responsible for many of the looks which can be seen in pop and punk divas today with her fluorescent hairdos and extreme makeup. Regardless of her flamboyant attitude towards personal enhancement, Wilcox claims her wish for a face lift procedure was planted after Jonathan Ross commented on her looks. But Toyah is far from being a cosmetic surgery junkie and rather than going ahead with her tummy tuck and breast reduction surgery on her own, t

    Cosmetic Surgery Happenings In Ireland

The Emerald Country’s name has been popping up a lot lately and from the look of things Ireland could suffer a serious setback in its leap to the list of countries to visit for cosmetic surgery. The cosmetic surgery story making headlines in Ireland and the rest of world is about a 48-year-old woman who is believed to have died as a result of faulty hospital equipment. Bernadette Reid-Kavanagh died after coming out from her gastric band surgery in February this year. If it weren’t for the machine that was supposed to monitor her blood pressure, pulse and oxygen backfiring, Bernadette it is alleged would have still been alive. Doctors, on the other hand claim that she was over the limit of accepted weight and suffered from chronic asthma, reasons which are considered as deterrents to cosmetic surgery. The pathologist chronicled Bernadette’s death as the result of a cardiac condition that deprived the heart of blood supply. Obesity was stated as a contributory cause. Th

    LASIK Eye Surgery animation
    2008-06-16 06:07:00
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a type of refractive laser eye surgery performed by ophthalmologists for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.[1] The procedure is generally preferred to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, (also called ASA, Advanced Surface Ablation) because it requires less time for the patient's recovery, and the patient feels less pain, overall; however, there are instances where PRK/ASA is medically indicated as a better alternative to LASIK.The LASIK technique was made possible by the Colombian-based Spanish ophthalmologist Jose Barraquer, who, around 1950 in his clinic in Bogotá, Colombia, developed the first microkeratome, used to cut thin flaps in the cornea and alter its shape, in a procedure called keratomileusis. Stephan Schaller assisted. Barraquer also provided the knowledge about how much of the cornea had to be left unaltered to provide stable long-term results.Later technical and procedural developments included the RK (radial ke

lasik:Is Lasik Surgery good for the eyes?
    2008-06-13 07:36:00
In first glance, it does look good as the cornea is reshaped (instead of any concave or convex lenses). But does it stay that way? Is there some long term problems faced by patients of lasik surgery? From what I have found researching on Los Angles Lasik Eye Surgery patients, there seem to be not much evidence to the complications theory. In my personal experience, two of my friends had theirs done eight years ago and both of them are doing fine. If you ask any Los Angeles lasik surgeon, Dr. Andrew Caster for example, I think you will get the same response, that machines and experience have not made it a safe exercise. But that is not to say that complications do not occur, but if you go to a good eye doctor, then she or he will (or at least should) examine your eligibility and reject you for lasik if you are unsuitable. For example, you cornea might be too thin or your eyesight may be too poor, in which case they might recommend contacts. Also, there are many types of lasik. For peopl

    The Influential Plastic Surgery List
    2008-06-13 06:57:00
Cosmetic enhancement of some sort or another is just one of the common denominators binding those in the top ten slots on the Forbes Most Powerful Celebrity list existing. While not many on the list may have come out-and-out about their cosmetic surgery, an occasional interest in it is no secret. It’s understandable, after all celebrities are the faces of the forces that come along with culture- be it fashion or the arts. A beautiful face is worth as much as the story behind it. Let’s take Oprah Winfrey the leader of this list’s influentia. She is believed to have had a nose enhancement, a chin implant and a breast lift. Angelina Jolie follows a similar pattern with various skin treatments thrown in for good measure as does Beyonce with her alleged breast augmentation. Footballer David Beckham, who is ranked number 5 on the list, is a mild sampler of injectables like Botox. Injectables that reduce wrinkles are admittedly more popular among men and contribute a lot to

If the scars are in proximity to the visible parts of the face in any face surgery procedure, it becomes crucial that the sutures used to hold the wound are quickly dissolvable and less prominent. Cosmetic Surgery & Virgins
    2008-06-12 00:28:00
Somehow I keep reverting to that most ambiguous and mysterious places on the planet- the Middle East. While the tumultuous newsflashes are as much to blame for my constant visits, it is also the plastic surgery trends in this region that draw me. There is a wave of change going about in the Arab countries no doubt, but certain aspects look like they are still soaking and dripping with hardcore tradition. I’m talking about the Islamic conception of virginity which is insisted on being followed by unmarried women. A woman who is believed to have a ruptured hymen is not ‘respectable’ and has no status in Islamic society. Driven by this need for hymen-preservation, women studying and living abroad and no longer ‘virgins’ have a cosmetic surgery procedure in the vaginal area called hymenoplasty. This plastic surgery procedure is of a reconstructive nature and rebuilds the hymen, the membrane known to rupture when a woman undergoes intense physical disturbance or in thi

lasik:Give your eyesight the gift of a lasik eye surgery.
    2008-06-10 05:57:00
If there is some method of communicating without speaking a word, it is through our eyes. The eyes are really the mirror to one's soul and it is easy to judge a person's intention by simply judging the look in their eyes. Besides being the gateway to our soul our eyes are also, one of the primary connection to the outside world. We get to know the people around us, the colors, and the objects and in fact our whole surrounding as we perceive it is based on our senses, out of which our eyesight plays a key role. Now, if your eyesight were to get affected and your vision became less than perfect, your world would get blurred too. Defective vision poses many problems, especially when you are leading an active life outside the four walls of your home. You need good vision to apply for some jobs, to read the number of a bus, to be able to read the blackboard in classroom, read a book and for any other minor activity that you perform on a daily basis. It is therefore important that if you are

    Heart surgery safer at night
    2008-06-09 06:52:00
By Jeremy Laurance, Health EditorOperations are now safest when carried out at night, according to a major investigation into deaths following heart surgery. After decades in which the NHS has fought to reduce risks outside normal working hours, heart patients now get better care after 6pm and before 8am. The explanation is that patients are more likely to be operated on by a consultant out of hours, rather than a junior surgeon, according to the National Confidential Enquiry into Preoperative Deaths (NCEPOD), whose report is published today. The big expansion in consultant numbers in recent years and the cut in junior doctors' hours because of EU regulations is making round-the-clock hospital medicine safer – in contrast to primary care, where GPs are less available out of hours. During the day, heart surgery is more often performed by junior doctors. Over 17 per cent of operations in normal hours were carried out by junior surgeons compared with under 1 per cent at night, investiga

lasik:Can Lasik Surgery correct Reading Vision?
    2008-06-09 06:48:00
Los Angeles Lasik Surgeon Dr. Caster is an expert in laser vision correction. He firmly believes that through presbyopia cannot be cured, we can achieve correction through lasik. If you are an individual needing reading vision correction and considering laser eye surgery in Southern California , you will find this article very interesting.Lasik alters the shape of the cornea, which is the clear tissue in the very front of the eye. The need for reading glasses that comes as we get older (known as presbyopia) is a result of the aging of the lens deep inside the eye, behind the colored part of the eye. Presbyopia means "old eyes". So Lasik cannot correct presbyopia. However, Lasik can be used to create monovision, just as glasses or contact lenses do, in which one eye is adjusted for distance and one for near. Many Los Angeles Monovision patients prefer contact lenses to the alternative of using reading glasses. The same effects can be achieved with Lasik. If you are considering monovisio

Intubation during General anesthesia before surgery
    2008-06-07 00:05:50
This 3D Medical animation shows you how the intubation is done during the process of general anesthesia before surgery. anesthesia has traditionally meant the condition of having sensation (including the feeling of pain) blocked. This allows patients to undergo surgery and other procedures without the distress and pain they would otherwise experience.Patients undergoing surgery usually undergo preoperative evaluation. It includes gathering history of previous anesthetics, and any other medical problems, physical examination, ordering required blood work and consultations prior to surgery. The level of anesthesia achieved ranges on a continuum of depth of consciousness from minimal sedation to general anesthesia. The depth of consciousness of a patient may change from one minute to the next.
