Would you swallow an empty water balloon for your child?
This is the question of the day for me...
My daughter came in and asked me what would happen if someone was to swallow a balloon. I launched into the story about bowel obstructions and reminded her of how my friend's dad, who we knew, died from complications of a bowel obstruction.
As tears welled up in her eyes I realized that she herself had swallowed a tiny water balloon just minutes earlier and she was struck with fear and heading towards devastation.
I quickly had to start putting out this fire. I explained that what I had said was possible, but God made young bodies to be quite good at handling foreign objects and proceeded to re-tell her the story about how the handful of lite-brite pegs made it through her body into her diaper just fine some years earlier.
This seemed to quell her fears for about 2 and 1/2 minutes. Then she was back on my lap and in tears.
