Tales Of Persecution -- Thrown Off A Cliff For Christ
    2008-07-13 10:47:00
The following story is an incredible testimony from The Voice Of The Martyrs of Christians who were willing to be thrown off a cliff rather than denying Christ....-----Ranavalona I, the queen of Madagascar, hated the Christians in her kingdom. Her complaints against them were many: they despised her idols, they were always praying, they always went to church, and their women were chaste. She sent officers to gather all those suspected of being Christians to bring them to trial.Sixteen hundred believers, when the charges were read, announced confidently, "Guilty." They would not deny the charges, for to do so would be to deny Christ. The Queen offered them a second chance to deny Christ and bow down to her idols, but each refused. They were thrown into dark, dank dungeons, and many were executed. The Queen was angered more, because for each Christian she had killed, twenty more rose up.Later, the Queen ordered that fifteen Christians be executed. They were to be thrown over a cliff int

    Turquoise Tales

One of the most common forgeries I have come across is that of misidentified Turquoise. True Turquoise colors include a bright blue, sky-blue, pale green, blue-green, turquoise-blue, apple-green, green-gray. Many may have streaks of pale greenish blue to white. Watch carefully for the wording a vendor uses. For instance “Turquentine” is the name given to Howlite [...]

Breast Surgery Tales - Augmentation To Improve Sex Life!:
    2008-04-14 08:31:00
Jodie Marsh feels that she has a better sex life when she feels good about her body. This is one of the main reasons why she went and had a combination of a breast augmentation and a breast lift. This busty beauty once famously went about having the words ‘REAL’ written across her chest and was a staunch defender of the natural cleavage and un-tampered boobs. So when she changed her 32DD to a 32GG everybody wondered. She exclaims rather airily, “I could meet the perfect man tomorrow and if I do, I’ve now got perfect boobs for him.” For those in the dark about this crazy woman, Jodie starred in the MTV reality show Jodie Marsh: Who’ll Take Her Up The Aisle? After she got her dream hubby, the relationship predictably fizzled out in front of a million viewing eyes. Currently Marsh is heavily into a ‘casual’ relationship which she is hoping to spice up with her newly enhanced breasts. Seriously, when ever will reality stars get a grip on reality! All they seem to be do

The Blood Exemption and Other Tales of Taxing Nonprofit Hospital Purchases
    2008-04-10 23:00:00
States seeking a neutral, transparent sales tax system should exempt all business-to-business transactions and impose sales tax only on final retail sales of goods and services. Because many states continue to impose sales tax on business-to-business inputs, examining the tax treatment of a variety of such transactions can provide insight into the neutrality and transparency of a state's overall tax system. While income tax exemptions for nonprofit hospitals may not be justified under the principles of sound tax policy, sales tax exemptions for the purchase of inputs are. Only seven states exempt inputs purchased by all hospitals, and six states do not exempt inputs purchased by nonprofit hospitals. For many states, exempting inputs from the sales tax should be a part of any tax reform effort. A new Tax Foundation Fiscal Fact, "States Should Avoid Sales Taxes on Nonprofit Hospital Purchases," provides a quick look at how each state taxes purchases made by nonprofit hospital

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology
    2008-03-17 12:38:00
An original entry in the Tales of the World seriesand the first new Tales game for the PSP. The story of Radiant Mythology takes place in the world of Terejia. Demons from another world have invaded the land, chasing people from their homes and doing damage to the planet. A great tree that brought life to Terejia protects the world and its people for some time, but slowly loses power. Using the last bit of its power, it creates the main character -- you! Players can create their own character, deciding such things as name, gender, face, clothing and even voice. You also choose a Job type, and based on the job that you select, the quests that become available to you as you play the game change. As is to be expected of a Tales of the World game, Radiant Mythology features characters from other Tales games, as well as two new characters: Morumo, a mascot character from a different world who hopes to stop the invading demons, and Kanosono, an amnesia-ridden girl who works in a resistance

    Fairy Tales
    2008-02-19 23:04:05
A parents group I belong to jokes about Disney’s willingness to kill off all the mothers in their movies. I made an offhand remark to Princess at lunch one day about it. She was totally surprised! She went through all our animated movies in her head and realized it was true, and she’d never even noticed. Even those protagonists who had mothers weren’t with them -Sleeping Beauty was sent away to be raised, and Dumbo’s mother was incarcerated. The only exception was Mulan. Why? she asked. I told her it was because mothers tended to protect children from the trouble they get into in fairy tales. And that made me realize that Disney is doing it right. We can tell our kids that the frightening things that happen in fairy tales could never happen to you, because mama protects you. Maybe cinema matricide isn’t such a bad idea after all! 10 classic Greek Island tales
    2008-02-15 16:11:00
Which island to choose? I've been wondering that for 25 years - luckily we've run several fantastic articles since 2007 to help you decide.Oh, that old one again. Well, actually Skopelos is the business says Matt Rudd. "If you do want to break the fabulous monotony of beach life, you can walk up into the forests, have a snoop around a hilltop chapel, spot birds – I don’t know. Some people even come to Skopelos on walking holidays. Weirdos."

Humans Do Not Need to Comfort Themselves With Fairy Tales
    2008-01-24 03:14:34
A response to Peter Bowden’s “God, Atheism, and Human Needs” Kelly O’Connor Jan. 24, 2008 The idea that human beings universally need some form of mythological belief has been one of the mainstays of the defenders of faith for centuries. They claim that even if god doesn’t exist or religion causes violence and hatred, it’s acceptable because it makes some people feel better about the harsh realities of life. This is a multi-pronged deceptive ploy used to abdicate themselves from any responsibility for those actions and to keep people thinking that their assertion is correct. READ MORE »

    Tales from the Farm
    2008-01-09 07:49:17
Jeff Lemire’s first book in his three book trilogy, Tales From The Farm (Essex County), is one of the best comics I read last month. I waited a long time to buy it because my comic book store usually discounts only less recents comic books.Lester, a young boy without a father, is taken in by his uncle Ken following his mother’s early death from cancer. At every attempt of contact from Ken, Lester retreats to his fantasy world of comic books: fighting aliens, building forts, and generally living in a make believe world. Both of their lives, although they share the same house, are spent in isolation and sadness, being affected by the death of a loved one in different ways. Even so, when Lester first reaches out for a father figure, he does not look to Ken, but to Jimmy Lebeuf, a one time professional hockey player who is now a gas attendant after a career ending injury. The story is all set in a fictionalized version of Jeff Lemire's hometown. The character of Lester is not directly based on the author's childhood , but the themes are the same. Jeff Lemire grew up on a farm just like the character did, but was raised by parents. He added the death of character's mother only to heighten the character’s isolation. The flashbacks show Lester’s mother in the hospital and reveal the conflict between Ken who didn’t want to become a father and Lester who has been ripped from all he knows and thrust into life on a farm. Lemire doesn’t make any obvious judgments when it comes to the decisions that Lester makes about love and friendship. His narrative is more about Lester’s well being and self-discovery.The artwork of Tales From the Farm is distinctive black and white. Jeff Lemire’s style is straightforward and stark.A touching story about self-discovery, growing up and loss.

    2007-12-19 13:10:01
Tales from 2 AMFiled under: Analysis / Opinion, WoW Social Conventions, Odds and ends The hardest thing about playing WoW during the night shift is watching your standards for success drop as people who aren't as demented or as sleep-deprived as I am realize they have to do things like sleep and get up in the morning. Since I know I won't be able to sleep I'm fairly cavalier about it, but as the night transforms into early morning people go from let's clear Heroic Arcatraz to let's try one more time to kill this annoying boss and call it a night. That's right, Zereketh, you know who you are. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, so it can be very frustrating for me to tank a boss over and over again and see the DPS dying from stuff I can't do much about, like the Void Zones he keeps spawning right under the clothies' feet, especially when you get the boss to 1% six times in one night. Not that I'm bitter or anything.I'm sure we all like to do well. And it can be horribly frus

    Book of Fairy Tales
    2007-11-27 14:05:00
A book of fairy tales created, handwritten and illustrated by J.K. Rowling sold for nearly $4 million at auction Thursday. The buyer, Web retailer Amazon.com Inc., now owns one of only seven copies of "The Tales of Beedle the Bard," which is leather bound with silver mounts.Amazon, in its unaccustomed position as a buyer rather than seller of books, was represented by London art agent Hazlitt, Gooden and Fox.The book originally had been expected to sell for about $100,000. The standing-room-only crowd at Sotheby's auction house applauded as bidding topped the $2 million mark. The money will benefit The Children's Voice, a charity co-founded in 2005 by Rowling and Baroness Nicholson, a member of Britain's House of Lords.Rowling, 42, watched the auction on the Web from her home in Edinburgh, Scotland, and said she was ecstatic."This will mean so much to children in desperate need of help," she said in a statement. "It means Christmas has come early to me."Amazon.com posted a handful of

Fletch's Film Review: Southland Tales (part I)
    2007-11-19 10:40:00
I normally post my reviews in the order that I see them, partly due to topicality (a review of a two-month old movie has less impact than that of a new release), but mostly because it's freshest in my head right after I see it (obviously). I have to break that trend today.Saw Southland Tales Friday. In case you haven't heard of it/much about it, it's the latest from Donnie Darko writer/director Richard Kelly. It's about...well...It's about a lot of things. It has a lot of characters. It is either one of the best or one of the worst movies that I've ever seen. At the very least, in accordance with the previous sentence, it is amongst the more interesting movies you could see for awhile, and definitely should be seen, for the spectacle of it all if for no other reason. At this point, I'm not even adequately prepared to give it a proper review. I need to see it again and will soon. Until then, if you saw and/or liked Donnie Darko at all (or Brazil or Twelve Monkeys, for starters), I

    Tales Of The Black Freighter
    2007-10-04 16:46:00
To follow up on my post about Watchmen, I have discovered a site that hosts a recreation of one of the stories within the story featured in Watchmen. These sidestories tie in and relate to the goingson of the "real" world featured in the comic series. One of the more prominent and certainly harrowing of these is that of Tales of the Black Freighter. You see, in a world such as that of Watchmen, where superheroes are everyday, people would be much less interested in reading about fictional superheroes. That is why the authors chose to go with the idea that pirate comics would be popular, as pirates were not seen in everyday Watchmen universe life, it provided a similar escape to that of superheroes in our world. Throughout the series, we are treated to snippets of Tales of the Black Freighter, in particular pieces from the two part Marooned story. In this story, a man is shipwrecked and believes that his hometown is about to be attacked by the evil demon pirates aboard the Black Fre

Irish Blessings and More Irish Drinking Tales

Here are a couple of Irish drinking stories followed by traditional Irish blessings: France’s President, Nicolas Sarkozy was working in his office when his telephone rang. Books: Tales from the home front
    2007-09-14 17:44:00
It's been almost 40 years since you retired from your weekly newspaper in Luverne, the Rock County Star-Herald, way down there in the southwest corner of Minnesota. And it's been almost 30 years since you passed away. But you wouldn't believe the fuss in the old town these days -- and you're right in the middle of it.It all started with that moviemaking fella Ken Burns and his crew coming to town making his World War II documentary, "The War." They dug up that old column you used to write, "More or Less Personal Chaff," where you wrote about the war effort there in Luverne and how those Rock County boys were doing overseas. Burns said it "might be the single greatest archival discovery that we ever made," if you can believe that. They had movie star Tom Hanks (think Jimmy Stewart) reading your words, and the premiere showing was right there in Luverne, at the Palace Theatre -- the very same Palace where you saw "Casablanca" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy." Quite the deal.

    CND Jewelry Tales

I ran across this blog while noodling around the Net, and I was struck by the quality and the quantity of her posts, each of which highlights one of her handcrafted jewelry designs. And I soon discovered that she is one talented lady—and a very good writer. Her name is Cynthia Newcomer Daniel, and her blog is titled CND Jewelry Tales—My Year of Jewelry. I’ve been doing this blog about jewelry techniques and independent designers for about 4 months now, and I’ve become quite fond of bracelets. Don’t know why—I just like them. And Cynthia has lots of bracelets.Read her descriptions of these two designs, and you'll readily see what a wonderful writer she is:"Swirling sand and stardust form a vortex in this beautiful lampwork focal bead from Glass & Splinters Lampwork. All five lampwork beads float on hammered sterling silver; they are connected with chain maille knots. This bracelet is fairly substantial, but is airy enough to retain delicacy. Two Tales of One Investment Income
    2007-08-14 04:30:08
There are two choices for pure investors when it comes to dividend returns from a stock: Use a dividend reinvestment plan to dollar cost average the dividends back into the stock. Separate the dividend income into a cash pool to reinvest into a different asset.  Does not need to be stocks, can be business investment, real estate, [...]

Did you read already the Birbal tales ?
    2007-07-29 12:58:14
I agree fully to Pradeep’s comment about the Birbal stories. They are so smart, funny, addictive, … So, if you didn’t buy the book yet, you missed a chance. If you want to buy it also for your team here are some arguments to convince people who do not believe it is a book for/about [...]

    Tales of Tales
    2007-07-26 01:59:31
Usually it’s my computer that crashes, not me, but yesterday my body ordered me to sleep more. It seems my body can’t do the living on four hours of sleep a night, for a week, anymore. But the resting was good and I did go to work so it wasn’t a complete crash. As I promised, here’s what happened on the Friday in New Orleans. You can also check out Cocktail Chronicles, Kaiser Penguin, Liquid Muse and On the House for other Tales of the Cocktail summary posts and comments. Continue reading "Tales of Tales" »

Tales of the Cocktail Wrap Up
    2007-07-23 19:06:17
I have returned from New Orleans with so much to write about that it will probably take a few days to cover everything. Also, I’ve used up every energy reserve I have, so I’m sleepy and my mind seems to be having a hard time recalling everything I’ve done in the past five days. That’s what happens when you only get four to five hours of sleep per night and then spend 14+ hours getting home. I think I’ll tackle this in reverse chronological order since the most recent memories are the easiest to remember. Continue reading "Tales of the Cocktail Wrap Up" »

    Tales Update 1
    2007-07-19 21:18:18
Day 1 of Tales of the Cocktail has been great. I've met almost everyone in the first 12 hours og being here. New Orleans is a very interesting city, and I definately like it. Lots of character in the old buildings and many historical sites to see. But, my agenda is quiet busy so we'll see how much I can do outside of that. Excuse the abundant errors, I'm writing this on a PDA. Continue reading "Tales Update 1" »

    Tales of the Cocktail Agenda
    2007-07-17 16:41:03
The week is finally here and I’ll be flying out early tomorrow morning to New Orleans. I think tomorrow may very well be a 20+ hour day. Up at 4AM to get to the airport and the VIP dinner is tomorrow night, which may lead to a long, but fun, evening. Anyway, my agenda is pretty full so I’m not sure how many posts I’ll get to do while I’m in New Orleans, plus I lost my PDA which I was going to use to post (yay, my wife found it, so expect more posts!). I’ve lined up a guest blogger who’ll provide some humorous content on Friday. A full write up, with pictures, will be forth coming when I return. So here’s what going on in New Orleans. Tales From the Field: San Fransisco
    2007-07-16 23:19:00
"On October 27th 1989 a magnitude 7.1 earthquake shook San Francisco, fans at the World Series in Candlestick Park watched in horror as masonry rained down, motorists slowed to a halt as a section of the Oakland Bay Bridge collapsed and somewhere amongst all this chaos there was a bar, with a security camera recording the event.A small number of cameras recorded images of the earthquake that day but the bar footage provides perhaps one of the most dramatic scenes, the bartender racing away from the shaking till and towards the camera as bottles fall and smash behind her.Such images of natural disasters occurring were of course exactly what the MEGA DISASTERS team wanted, but the bar security footage remained elusive. The usual and likely suspects, ITN/Reuters, NBC, CNN, ABC, NatGeo and the various local news broadcasters in San Francisco, all had a copy of the famous footage, and some had broadcasted it at the time, but none of them knew who owned it or were prepared to sell it to me.Then another documentary that had used the footage fell into my lap. The list of footage suppliers in the credits offered no surprises, ABC, CNN, NBC, KRON, KTVU, Eric Chun, wait a minute … Eric Chun doesn't start with a K, who is he? With no other lead I made it my mission to find out who he was and what footage he had contributed, on the off-chance he knew something about the security footage.I was quickly dismayed to find out how many E.Chun's there are in the State of California and had almost given up when one last Google search dragged up something of interest, a review of a San Francisco bar which mentioned in passing how the previous owner had started the bar 20 years ago and his name was *drumroll* Eric Chun.A few minutes later I was talking to first a waiter at "Adam’s Apple Grill and Bar" and then the manager who passed on to me the cell phone number for Eric Chun who had since retired from business. Whilst driving a bus on the highway somewhere near San Francisco,

    Tales of a Food Whisperer
    2007-07-11 05:03:00
I 'borrowed' that name from Socky, which was apparently coined by Adobo Magazine. There was no more perfect term for her, I think. The woman I speak of is none other than Lydia Go. Tita Lyds, as she is fondly called, is a pioneer and master in the art of food styling and food photography who revolutionized the craft in the Philippines. She was legendary in the advertising industry, the woman

    Tales of Pirates
    2007-07-10 22:38:00
Bienvenido a Tales of Pirates.

    Elephant Tales
    2007-07-06 06:04:13
Elephants are a way of life in my house. Gothgrrl fell for elephants the first time she saw Dumbo. When she found out they were symbolic of her native India, it only reinforced her interest. Now she has dozens of stuffed elephants, dozens of tiny elephant knicknacks, elephant jewelry, and elephant art on her walls, including some she painted herself, tapestries, adn depictions of Ganesh. No matter what store we walk into, she seems to have a radar that detects elephants for sale. And no fair or circus comes to town without Gothgrrl buying an elephant ride. And you know what? They smell bad up close. Especially after giving rides to kids all day at the fair. But they still make me smile.   Elephant Soccer Trunk show: elephant fashions. Elephants helped to clean up the New Orleans Zoo after Katrina. LOLephant, from Archie’s Archive. Elephant insemination. Not a job I’d want to try. A baby elephant is born

    FOOD/SHOP GUIDE - Paan - oh! -Tales
    2007-06-30 01:59:00
Fancy owning an MF Husain painting and that too free of cost! Shiv Narayan Pandey proudly flaunts his photograph with the famous painter's work gifted to him by Husain himself. Well, who is SN Pandey? The 85-year-old man is a paanwala, the owner of SN Pandey & Sons, one of the oldest paan shops in Connaught Place. Bang opposite the Shivaji Stadium MCDonald's, this little paan shop tucked away in a corner overflows with anecdotes.Peer in the shop and you will find yourself staring into an array of black and white photographs lining the wall. There are photos of all the political stalwarts of the country from the old timers like Dr Rajendra Prasad, Indira Gandhi to president APJ Abdul Kalam. While some are posing with a young SN Pandey, the others are busy taking paan from him.So, how does MF Husain's painting come here? "Husain always comes here for paan whenever he is in Delhi. I had once asked him for a painting of his and many years later he brought it and gave me saying I haven't forgotten my promise," says Pandey. The young boy sitting along with the old man then offers me the speciality of the shop, a saada paan. "We have lots of variety like the banarasi paan, Madhuri and many more. There is no gutka in any of our paan, everything is pure," the enthusiastic chap tells me.The paan legacyProd him a little and out come the old tales from the aging man's mouth. I feel as though i'm turning the chapters of an old book. "In 1943, I bought six readymade paan for six paisa from Chawri Bazaar and sold them in this corner for double the cost. I continued this everyday till I collected Rs five. With this money, I slowly set up this shop. I was very poor at that time and I started this business with the minimum money my father had given me," recounts Pandey. Today, apart from the shop at CP's outer circle, SN Pandey has another paan shop in North Avenue which his elder son runs. While the main shop is also run by his younger son, SN Pandey insists on coming to

Tales from the Internets, volume 2
    2007-05-31 04:43:00
Well, it's that time again... a time to post crazy links, that is. Once again, I got a lot of these from various sources, and I'll try to give credit where credit is due, but I forget a lot of the time where this stuff came from. One side comment... I understand that it's some sort of marketing ploy to repeat the name of the company/product ad nauseam during a commercial, but it's annoying as fuck. Do I need to hear the word [company name removed to prevent advertising] ten times in three sentences? No, no I don't. I think I need to up my dose or television or something. I'm actually starting to get un-brainwashed by commercialism.Anyway, on to the links. From the people at Progressive Boink, a hilarious database of Hanna-Barbara cartoon characters. Definitely worth it if you ever watched any of them as a kid (or an adult, I guess). Speaking of which, why the hell did I watch all my parents' cartoons as a kid? Was I the only one? While still on the subject of cartoons, he

Aiden and Ky- Tales of the Shareem, Allyson James
    2007-04-23 14:30:12
By JCBrianne is horrified when she finds out that her guards have arrested two Shareem, men genetically created for a woman’s pleasure, on her behalf. She saves them just before their execution, and she wants to make amends for the wrong that was committed against the two sexy men. She agrees to meet with them in order to discuss some type of recompense. But Aiden and Ky have other plans. From the moment the sensual Aiden sees Brianne in the coffee shop, he knows he and his best friend Ky have to have her together. But even as Aiden and Ky are teaching the innocent Brianne about what it means to submit; Brianne is forging a connection of sensuality between the two sexy men, and awakening demons in Ky’s past that are better left alone. Allyson James is one author that I try to buy whenever she comes out with something new. Her Tales of the Shareem series is a joy to read, and not only for the sex- which is hot. What I like most about the series is that the men really care about and for the woman. Some stories feel like the plot and the sex are two separate entities. Yet in James’s stories, the sex is an extension of the relationship that the people are building. That isn’t to say it’s touchy feely. Sex between her characters is loud and messy, but also filled with laughter and discovery. In a world where the women are sexually repressed, James’s is able to capture what it feels like to discover that sex can be fun and intimate and loving. Aiden and Ky is a new take on James’s stories. While her stories often have threesomes as part of the female’s sexual awakening, this time she investigates what it is like to make that threesome into a functioning relationship. Added to that is Ky’s natural wariness of taking on a male lover, and you’ve got a story that has you turning the pages as you root for your favorite sexy Shareem. The other thing that James adds to the story is more world developing, and the introduction of n

Tales from the Internets, volume 1
    2007-04-15 22:43:00
The first in what I hope to be a long running series of articles about... well, crap, I guess you could say. Just hide the kids, shield your eyes, or just don't click on the links. I find the following amusing... and occasionally just sad or weird, but I make no guarantees that you will. This site really quacks me up (yes I realize that it was a horrible pun, but just think of it as dripping with sarcasm, or you know... just read the "testimonials" on the site and see how painful it all is). Honestly, I'm not sure whether I find these funny, or just sad. This site actually makes money selling these things? There's a market for rubber duckies that look like Jason Kidd or Moses? Could I make money selling figurines of Charlie Chaplin with bunny ears? So many unanswered questions... All that I know is that I definitely want a cow with a duck bill. I'm still trying to figure out whether or not putting duck bills on random animals is stranger than putting them on humans, though.
