| Game Preview: Jacksonville Jaguars at Tampa Bay Buccanneers | | 2008-08-23 14:16:24 | |
Kickoff: 7:30pm August 23rd, 2008
Where: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL
Weather: 84 degrees, 30% chance of rain
The third preseason game is probably the only one that comes close to justifying the ticket price. The starters should play well into the 3rd, perhaps even the 4th quarter. The Jaguars came out somewhat flat last week against the Dolphins, hopefully things will get better tonight. The Buccaneers are the defending NFC South champions, which is like saying you're the Spelling Bee Champ of the Special Ed class. Led by the man no one wants Jeff Garcia, Tampa comes in this season looking to make another playoff run.

| SWEPT AWAY, FAR FAR AWAY...Tampa Bay Rays 7 Boston Red Sox 6 | | 2008-07-03 04:09:00 | | The Boston Red Sox seemed to be in good shape after six innings Wednesday night in Tampa Bay. They were ahead by a score of 4-1 and needed just five or six outs to get to "Papelbon time." But two things, two people, actually, stood between them and a salvaging victory. They were Manny Delcarmen and Craig Hansen. They imploded completely, with neither recording a single out. Six runs later, the score was 7-4 and the game was out of reach. Boston added single runs in the eighth and ninth, but it was too little, too late. What had seemed to be a certain victory ended up to be a series sweep win for the first place Rays.Daisuke Matsuzaka started for the Sox and had immense trouble finding the strike zone in the first two innings. He clearly has to do something about that horrid control. He has great stuff on all his pitches but that means nothing when you walk five opposing hitters. He threw 101 pitches in that short span and handed the ball over to Hideki Okajima for the sixth. Okie was d | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| Punchless Red Sox Beaten Again...Tampa Bay Rays 3 Boston Red Sox 1 | | 2008-07-02 04:38:00 | | For the seventh straight start, Timmy Wakefield pitched at least seven innings and allowed fewer than three earned runs. Yet the Boston Red Sox were again without the timely hits and lost to the first place Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 3-1. His ERA over that span is a nifty 1.98, but because of a lack of run support, his record is 2-3. Unfathomable. Two wild pitches were a part of his undoing, as well as a walk and an Alex Cora error. But when a team scores only one run on six hits, which was the same number of hits the Rays banged out, there is NO room for error. Here's what Tim had to say after absorbing his sixth loss...“I’m just in a really bad spot, I guess,” Wakefield said. “My job is to go out there and give us quality starts and innings and keep us in the game as long as possible, and I’ve been fortunate enough to do that. . . . We put runs on the board in Houston. It’s just a matter of firing on all cylinders right now. These guys (the Rays) aren’t like they used | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| The Latest Round Goes To The Rays...Tampa Bay 5 Boston 4 | | 2008-07-01 04:34:00 | | Justin Masterson's first pitch of the game was slammed over the fence by B.J. Upton, and that set the tone of the Tampa Bay Rays' Monday night victory over the visiting Boston Red Sox. Their lead in the division bulged to 1 1/2 games, with two more tilts coming up in this series. Masterson had trouble finding the strike zone, BIG TROUBLE. 57 of his 105 pitches (in only six innings) were strikes, and he threw only 13 out of 28 first pitch strikes. It was not the kind of outing the Sox, losers of three straight, wanted to see. Chris Smith took over in the seventh and also could not throw strikes. He recorded an out while walking the bases full, which led to the decisive run scoring in that inning. Is Tampa Bay for real? Last night they became the fastest team to record 50 wins of all those who finished the season before with the worst record. Mike Lowell expounds on their chances..."They're not doing this with smoke and mirrors," said Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell, who went 3-for-4. | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| Boston, Beckett Breeze...Red Sox 5 Tampa Bay 1 | | 2008-06-05 04:35:00 | | Josh Beckett and the Boston bullpen made it look easy Wednesday night at Fenway Park with a 5-1 thumping of the formally first place Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox, with the victory, vaulted into first place ahead of the Florida team. They just refuse to lose at home. Tonight they go for the sweep, with Jon Lester facing James Shields. Beckett, who ran his record to 6-4, breezed through the first six innings although he was not quite as sharp as we're all used to. He slipped during a sixth inning delivery but struck out the batter with the very next pitch after a mini-conference at the mound. We do not need to add to the bulging disabled list, although Coco Crisp injured his thumb trying to slide into a knee-blocked second base. He'll be OK for tonight, we have to hope. Here's what the Captain had to say of his battery partner..."His location is getting better," said Varitek, who attributed Beckett's comparatively slow start this season to missing most of spring training because of a bad | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| Sox Overpower Rays...Boston 7 Tampa Bay 4 | | 2008-06-04 04:39:00 | | The Boston Red Sox just do not seem to lose these days while playing at Fenway Park. After Tuesday night's 7-4 triumph over the first place Tampa Bay Rays, their home record is an AMAZING 22-5. Not bad, not bad at all. It was Justin Masterson who took Matsuzaka's turn in the rotation, and he was good, not as good as his two previous starts but good enough to earn his second victory. He went six innings, giving up four runs on six hits while walking only two. Skipper Terry Francona had this to say about his young star hurler...“I think he enjoys pitching, I don’t think this atmosphere has gotten out ahead of him or anything. He just likes to pitch. I said before the game Masterson’s pitching and we really didn’t give it a second thought, and I meant that as a compliment. He goes up and we expect him to give us a good ballgame, and he did that.” After Justin's 91 pitches took him through that first six, it was the bullpen's turn to shine. | TE Troupe Signs with Tampa Bay | | 2008-03-06 19:04:32 | | Free agent tight end Ben Troupe, who on Monday visited the Buffalo Bills on a free agent tour, has agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter. The Bills seemed clairvoyant of this potential signing, as they visited with another free agent tight end, Atlanta's Courtney Anderson, yesterday. Troupe was by far and away the most athletic tight end available on the free agent market, and the only athlete considered to be a difference-maker. His signing all but ensures that the Bills will address the tight end position early in this April's draft. There is still no news on free agent WR Bryant Johnson, though there are reports that he'll make a decision about his next destination soon. Keep an eye on Philadelphia's attempts to trade for Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald, as that potential deal could dramatically effect Johnson's value on the market. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

| Top NFL Unis: #10 Tampa Bay Buccaneers | | 2008-02-18 13:50:00 | | Color Scheme: 9Helmets: 9Flashiness/Sharpness: 9Tradition: 7Overall: 34Final Thoughts: The Buccaneers have gone from having the worst uniforms in the 70s and 80s to having some of the best in the 2000s. It looks flashy and new, but it isn't over the top. The main problem with the current uniforms is the fact that it lacks the tradition of some of the other teams, Green Bay, Dallas, or Kansas City. However, with one Super Bowl in 2003 and some more solid seasons in the current uniforms could move them to an even higher position. | | By: West Coast Bias | | |

| Week 6 Preview, Tennessee at Tampa Bay | | 2007-10-14 17:49:22 | | The Tennessee Titans’ rushing defense has made it possible for the team to sport their current 3-1 record, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have pretty much made it to 3-2 with a stout defense of their own. | Tampa Bay Meets with Former Dolphins QB Culpepper | | 2007-07-20 15:37:51 | | Evidently still not happy with the teams quarterback position, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are jumping into the ring as a possible suitor for former Vikings and Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper. On Thursday head coach Jon Gruden, GM Bruce Allen, and personnel executive Doug Williams met with Culpepper, who is free to sign with anyone after being released from the Dolphins on Tuesday.
The Bucs have five QB’s already on their roster, even though one of them, Jake Plummer, has stated he is retired even though he has yet to file the paperwork with the league. Jeff Garcia, who signed with the team in the offseason from Philly, is the starter, and behind him you have Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Simms and Luke McCown. Gruden had said in the past that the door was still open for Plummer to come back if he wanted, as it almost seems in a perfect world for Gruden he would want Plummer and Garcia as his #1 and #2 QB’s.
So now the attention turns to Culpepper, who has been waiting for hi | | By: NFL GridIron Gab | | |
