| | Tempur-Pedic iLD | | 2007-06-08 18:04:30 | | What is it? It sounds strangely medical, doesn’t it? Well iLD stands for Indentation Load Deflection, a term manufacturers coined to indicate the rating of a Tempur-pedic mattress pad.
The tempurpedic iLD rating is calculated by the amount of pounds or weight that is needed to achieve a 25 percent compression on a foam using a 50 square inch indentation. The iLD rating ranges from 8 to 20. The lower the number, the less firm the mattress. Tempurpedic mattresses usually have an iLD of 14 to 15. Other brands of mattresses are usually less, around 10 to 13.
So the next time you’re out shopping for a mattress, look for the iLD.
