    Tibetan flags 'made in China'
    2008-04-29 18:19:00
A Chinese factory has been busted by the authorities for making Tibetan flags after factory workers became suspicious when seeing images of the torch relay protesters. The flag represents the Tibetan government-in-exile.The factory owner said he had no idea what the colourful flag was as it was from an overseas order. Police believe some orders may have already been sent overseas and could turn up at the torch relay in Hong Kong next week. The authorities have also increased their inspection of vehicles going into the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, where the factory is located, and then on to Hong Kong. London Olympic relay runs into Tibetan protests!
    2008-04-06 11:42:27
The Chinese automatons running alongside the Olympic flame looked more cheesed off than worried. Demonstrators have been out in force in London trying to promote awareness of Chinese brutality in Tibet. My take on this is that the Chinese have no business in Tibet. It's not their country! Tibetans are not Chinese and the Chinese are not Tibetans. On top of that, there is a total lack of democratic accountability. People are being abused, culturally isolated, and generally being "controlled".I have heard it said that the Olympics should not be about politics, and that would be fair enough if we lived in a world where everyone was able to live without torture and terror. However, the Tibetans are not so free and easy. China may not like this but they are going to have to live with it. Some of us can't stomach what they are currently serving up!We in Britain, just as in other Western countries, have to consider every day what we are buying. You can't go into Argos now without buying someth...

China tightens grip on Tibetan Buddhism
    2007-08-28 22:41:00
China announced last month new regulations governing Tibetan Buddhism, including a stipulation that senior monks, known as "living Buddhas," cannot be reincarnated without government permission. "The reincarnation of living Buddhas must undergo application and approval procedures," the new regulations stipulate. "Living Buddha" reincarnations with a "particularly great impact," such as presumably of the next Dalai Lama, "shall be reported to the State Council for approval." ...

The courses will serve as an introduction to this written language, which was created to translate the large corpus of Indian Buddhist sutras, tantras and commentaries from the original Sanskrit. It is the language of the sacred texts of Tibetan Buddhism, most of which have not been translated into modern Tibetan, Chinese or Western languages. ...

    Tibetan momo at Tashi Deleg
    2007-06-02 11:41:28
Tashi Deleg has been around for some time in the Utrechtsestraat. Before it had only a Tibetan menu, but I think business was not going that well, because they closed and when they reopened, they also had a Indonesian menu and added the name of the Indonesian restaurant down the street to their name. Anyway more choice! When you sit down you get both menu’s and you can choose anything from either menu. We decided to go for one of the fixed menu’s of a little shy of € 20 per person. We got some Tibetan dumplings called momo as appetizers with some spicey sauce. They were really good. For the main course we got three dishes for sharing with some rice. The best dish was some kind of chicken with vegetables, the other two were with tofu and shrimp and tasted a bit bland. I don’t know how real Tibetan food is supposed to taste like though. Dessert we had to order separately, cause it wasn’t included in the menu. We took a typical Indonesian treat called spekkoek,...
