Maserati Bellagio Fastback Touring Goes into Production
    2008-06-12 11:12:00
Not too long ago at the 2008 Concorso d'Elegance Villa d'Este the recently revived Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera showed up with two concept cars, one sports berlinetta called A8GCS Berlinetta Touring and a homage to the shooting brake of old the Bellagio Fastback Touring. The coachbuilding company Superleggera has decided to take the fastback into production, limited production actually since they will only build 25 of them. If you want your Maserati Quattroporte to have additional storage for your golf bags, skis or shotguns then head on over to Milan. Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera hasn't exactly announced pricing but they claim that if you bring your Quattroporte to Milan, the coachbuilding should not push the bill over a super car price tag. Autoblog.nl claims that 200,000 euro excluding taxes will suffice.Except for the new rear end, the Quattroporte donor car stays the same unless the owner wants a new interior. Everything is possible if your heart so desires, but at a price

    Carrozzeria Touring
    2008-04-19 08:48:00
With Italian coachbuilders like Bertone and Pininfarina struggling to retain profitability, now may not be the best time to establish (or re-establish) another. But that isn't about to stop Holland-based Zeta Europe BV, which owns Borrani wheels and has acquired the rights to the defunct Carrozzeria Touring. The coachbuilder was originally established in 1926 and popularized the advanced Superleggera construction method, consisting of small-diameter tubular frames draped with thin-gauge aluminum sheetmetal and employed on numerous Alfa Romeos, Maseratis, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Aston Martins, among others. The name Superleggera was revived for the recently-terminated lightweight Lamborghini Gallardo, though strictly speaking the supercar did not use the classic construction method.Carrozzeria Touring is now gearing up for a revival with a new Superleggera, to debut in a week at the famous Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the classic motor show where a trophy honoring Touring's fou

On a favourite road, the BMW is extremely satisfying and enjoyable to drive. It changes direction immaculately well and exhibits excellent body control. The penalty for this is a fidgety rode. It’s not hard, but fails to be relaxing and is a little loud at speed, too. Nor is it as great around town. [...]

    BMW 5 Series Touring
    2007-12-27 20:59:41
Not so long ago there were those who argued that the growing popularity of MPVs signalled the death of traditional family estate cars. MPVs, they claimed, were roomier, cuter and easier to drive.Based on the 5-series saloon, the new Touring was larger and cleverer than its previous incarnation. The car’s larger dimensions were well invested, with boot space up to a respectable 535 litres and rear legroom that was noticeably more generous.Standard equipment levels now extended to climate control, alloys, electric seats and traction control, plus you had the choice of a long list of tempting options, including adaptive headlamps, which look round corners, and a fighter-pilot-style display system that projects information onto the windscreen. As a result, few cars left the showrooms without at least some of the extras, but when you are buying secondhand do not pay a big premium for a car with a long list of options simply for the sake of it. The standard car is a gem in itself. Being a BMW, the heart of the 5-series Touring is under its bonnet and at launch there was a choice of three diesel and two petrol engines. More engines soon followed and by September 2005 three more petrols and two more diesels had arrived. As a general rule of thumb the big-engine petrol models are great to drive but expensive to run, while all the diesel models are almost impossibly refined and reassuringly economical. If your budget will stretch then treat yourself to the 535d. It comes with a twin turbo 3 litre diesel engine producing 272bhp and 413 lb ft torque. Performance is mind-blowing: 0-60mph in 6.5sec and a top speed of 155mph, all while returning nearly 35mpg. If ever there was an argument for changing from a petrol car to a diesel one, the BMW 535d is the best one I have heard. But powerful engines can perform only if they are attached to a well engineered platform. Here the Touring comes up trumps again since it shares its underpinnings with the 5-series saloon. The Touring’s c

Touring Italy: Alto Adige Sub Region
    2007-11-22 08:46:00
If you are looking for a European tourist destination, consider the Trentino-Alto Adige region of northern Italy on the border of both Switzerland and Austria. Among its tourist attractions are the Dolomite Mountains, that the famous architect Le Corbusier called "The most beautiful work of architecture even seen," glacier lakes, and Alpine forests. In fact the region is composed of two parts, Trentino in the south and Alto Adige in the north. This article presents Alto Adige; a companion article presents Trentino. When you live in Alto Adige you have to declare your first language: choices include Italian (26.5%), German (69%), and Ladin (4%). There is a German-speaking majority in fully 103 of 116 communes, and only 5 have an Italian-speaking majority. We won't discuss the sometimes painful history of German-Italian relations in Alto Adige but are happy to say that the relations are now fairly good. As a tourist you'll be able to enjoy the two cultures. We'll start our tour of Alto Adige at Caldaro near the border with Trentino. Then we will proceed basically clockwise visiting Naturno and Bolzano (the regional capital and largest city), and then pass the following towns and ski resorts which we won't have time to visit on this tour: Chiusa, Bressanone, Brunico, and Dobbiaco. We resume visiting at Cortina d'Ampezzo, and proceed west to Canazei and to Lago di Carezza only about 22 kilometers (14 miles) from our starting point. We'll do something here that we haven't done previously. We present the place name in Italian and the German name in parentheses. Alto Adige, called Sued Tyrol in German, is still heavily German speaking and retains a distinctive Germanic, or more exactly Austrian, character.Caldaro (Kaltern) is a village of about 7500 residents that annually attracts over 400,000 tourists. So you know the basis of its economy. Its architecture is a pleasing combination of Italian Renaissance and German Gothic elements as exemplified in the historic Chur

Spice Girls are going to be touring in style
    2007-10-07 19:35:20
According to the Sun Magazine in the UK, the Spice Girls costumes for their tour is going to be designed by Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli. Victoria Beckham is friends with him, and she actually wears a lot of his designs. Wouldn't it be amusing to see 'Sporty Spice' in a gown?I'm even more excited now, and I can't wait for the Spice Girls to release their new single. I was a huge Spice Girls fan growing up, and I have followed there solo careers since then. I'm still hoping to get tickets, now that I can order them on ticket master rather than having to be randomly selected. I would love to see them, and hear them in action!
