What To Do With These Helpless Tourists??
    2007-07-12 22:06:00
It’s inevitable that when the tourists come, so will the opportunistic, blood-sucking, shameless touts eager to sponge money off them.   I’ve seen my share of these lecherous Sukhumvit species: the aggressive t-shirts seller in Nana, overly friendly taxi and tuktuk drivers who loaf around popular tourist sites, so-called “tour guides” who accost tourists on the street, claiming they know “a really great place” for jewelry/suits/massage.   If you’re a Sukhumvit virgin, it’s highly likely that you’ll fall into one of these tourist traps (“Oh honey, look!! A baby elephant in Sukhumvit!! Isn’t that sooo CoOoOoOoL?? Let’s buy some snack for Dumbo and we can take pics with him too!! That’ll make such a GREAT vacation shot!!”).   Countless times have I wanted to approach the eager family and tell them, “Please don’t encourage these lazy, good-for-nothing touts by buying food for the elephant. Elephants aren’t supposed to be in the city. What’s worse, ...

Hot swimming pools are new attractions to tourists in Tuba town Baluda
    2007-06-17 01:50:01
TUBA, Benguet - The swimming pools with hot water established by private investors in recent years in this town adjacent to Baguio City have started as an attraction to local and foreign tourists, according to outgoing municipal mayor Jose Baluda. He said that the increase of tourists only started early this year as a result of the eco-tourism campaign done by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the past five years in this western part of the Cordillera mountain ranges in northern Luzon. Records show that prior to these swimming pools, the main attraction of the town some 230 kilometers north of Manila had been the world-famous Asin hotsprings and the Brown Madonna on the Rock cave chapel. 2006-12-07 13:32:00
Today I went to Tanjung Benoa (a tourist area in Bali island) with my fellow driver, to pick up two tourists to go on a tour in Denpasar. It took me half an hour to arrive in Tanjung Benoa from Denpasar where I live. And yes, they were waiting for us at the Club Mirage lobby, the hotel they stayed.
