    WIMBLEDON TENNIS TOURNAMENT
    2008-05-07 17:41:00
I'm looking forward to the Wimbledon tennis tournament. Gives me something to watch other than half the rubbish they put on Television these days!I have never been myself to it live, but my partner has and he said he is going to take me sometime. He's really into his tennis along with other sports being a typical man!I will be watching on television anyway as usual. My favourite are the men's doubles (I cant think why ha ha)For those of you that are not familiar with the tournament, Wimbledon is under the joint management of The All England Tennis and Croquet Club and The Lawn Tennis Association. It is the oldest major championship in tennis. This is an annual event. The tournament itself is the third grand slam event played each year, and proceeds by the Australian, French & US open.It starts 23rd June-6th July 2008, although sometimes this could be over run due to weather conditions, usually rain. Oh yes we do get alot of rain in England! You can buy Wimbledon

If any of you own either the PC or PS3 versions of Unreal Tournament 3, you might enjoy downloading this Mario-inspired map made by FrontAXL.The blocky platforms will look familar to players of the original Super Mario Bros., as well as many of the background elements. It's not an exact replica (nor is it meant to be), but the similarities are impossible to deny. Also, the PC version of the map includes music and sounds from the beloved classic.Check out the awesome in-game video of the stage in action along with some other screens. Is Golf Tournament Sponsorship an Effective Form of Advertising?
    2008-04-10 07:24:00
Golf tournaments have become a very popular way for charity to raise money. Probably the number one reason why most companies support a tournament is an affinity for the cause. But in addition to supporting a worthy cause, golf tournament sponsorship represents an opportunity for effective advertising. This article contains some anecdotal evidence to support this theory. At a golf tournament a while ago, I happened to be on the same foursome and share a cart with one of that tournaments major sponsors. This fellow was a marketing manager for a car dealership. His rather enviable job description included playing in tournaments that the company sponsored, which through the summer months amounted to about two or three a week. Of course, he had some other responsibilities like making sure the cars from the dealership were displayed properly and the gift bags his company sponsored got to every golfer. So it was a long day for him, showing up well before the tournament started and leaving

NCAA Tournament Breakdown: Final Four Picks
    2008-03-20 06:01:58
If you've followed our coverage of the NCAA tournament (the first time we've ever done so, by the way) you've probably noticed that our regional champions include exactly zero shockers.Going in to the tourney, we viewed only 7 teams as having a real shot at the title. That's right, only 7: North Carolina, Tennessee, Kansas, Georgetown, Texas, Memphis, and UCLA. These 7 are so strong that we don't see anyone slipping by them from the lower seeds into the Final Four. Our Final Four picks were as follows:East: North CarolinaMidwest: GeorgetownSouth: TexasWest: UCLANo surprises there. And these four will provide some amazing games. We can't wait. Here's what will happen...National Semi-Finals PredictionsNorth Carolina over GeorgetownUCLA over TexasAnd finally...National Championship WinnerUCLAYes, the Bruins will cut down the nets. NCAA Tournament Breakdown: West Region
    2008-03-20 05:53:23
Many experts say UCLA has the easiest path to the Final Four. We call this the "kiss of death." Whenever the talking heads start singing your praises, you don't have a chance, right? You're jinxed for sure.Well, that's usually the case. And if you follow our fantasy football coverage, you know there's nothing we love more than proving the experts wrong. But--and we know this might cause you to cancel your subscription to TJI--in this case, we have to agree.UCLA has all the components of a champion. They're battle-tested, have multiple scoring threats, and they're well coach. Last year's run will serve them well, as they won't be distracted by the spotlight. And the biggest change from this year to last--Freshman stud Kevin Love--will help them, too.And when you take a look at the other teams in the West, there just isn't anyone who stands out. UConn is streaky. Duke is under-sized. Xavier plays in the Atlantic-10. Drake is Drake. No one can hang with the Bruins. So here are the official

si.comEast RegionRaleigh, NC 7:001. North Carolina (32-2) vs 16. Mt St Marys (18-14)The Mount Saint Marys Mountaineers survived the opening round game in Dayton beating Coppin State on Tuesday night. The "Mount" as it is called finished 4th in the Northeast conference and plays good defense but struggles rebounding the ball. Tyler Hansbrough should have a feast inside.Prediction: North CarolinaRaleigh, NC 9:308. Indiana (25-7) vs 9. Arkansas (22-11)The Hoosiers received a lower seed than expected at 8, but I think the committee was looking at the Indiana team now as opposed to the team with Kelvin Sampson. Since Verizon's best customer got canned, Indiana is just 3-3 with losses to Big 10 bottom feeders Penn State and Minnesota. Indiana is led by probably the 3rd best freshman in the nation, Eric Gordon, on the outside and senior DJ White on the inside.Arkansas made the SEC Tournament finals cementing their bid after finishing second in the SEC West regular season. NCAA Tournament Round 1 Information
    2008-03-19 15:09:00
Without question, the NCAA Tournament is the best sporting event in the nation. If you're not a fan of March Madness, then something is seriously wrong! College basketball's National Championship is at stake and 65 teams know that the first to six wins will walk away with the prize. College coaches break this tournament down into two-game affairs. Win the first two and then move on to the Sweet 16. Win the next two and then skip to the Final Four. Win those two and you're the National Champion.

    NCAA Tournament Breakdown: South Region
    2008-03-19 07:43:20
John Calipari is going to want to give Dan Marino a call one of these days. No, not to sign up for Nutri-system or borrow some Isotoners. The call's going to need to be made so the two can chat about not being able to win it all. Every winter, we cheered for ol' Danny Boy to will his team to the title. But it never happened. And many-a-March in the 90's were spent cheering on Calipari's UMass teams. But they couldn't pull it off, either. Now John Calipary has a new home, the University of Memphis and yet another 30-win squad. But unfortunately it is not, once again, the year of the Tigers. And we've got two words that sum up the reason why: Conference USA. Memphis needs to get out of that conference and play some real teams. Otherwise, tourney time is going to be more of the same year in, year out.So, please, if you've picked Memphis to win it all, use this handy breakdown of the South Region to steer yourself back to the right path. NCAA Tournament Breakdown: Midwest Region
    2008-03-18 22:43:00
Have you noticed that none of the "experts" are bringing you much in the way of upsets this year? Last year, with a tournament that was by our accounts light on Cinderella stories, has apparently made everyone a little gun-shy.But think about it. In years past, what has made the tourney so enjoyable? It's the upsets, baby. It's what's either ruined your bracket or made you the king/queen of the office, if only for a day after you picked Winthrop or Rider or Holy Cross on a whim.Well, we here at TJI think that when it comes to the Elite Eight and Final Four, the Cinderella stories will once again be sparse. But if there's a region where some drama might occur, it's the Midwest. Clemson and Vandy are a bit over-rated, as is chic upset pick USC, and Gonzaga is not the Gonzaga of old.And no one talks about the fact that Kansas, the region's number-one seed, hasn't beaten anyone all that impressive. Outside of their win over Texas in the Big 12 Championship, their resume doesn't have any W'

NCAA Tournament First Round Thursday Preview

ap/yahooSouth RegionAnaheim, CA 2:30 PM6. Marquette (24-9) vs 11. Kentucky (18-12)By now we know all about Kentucky and how they were revived from the dead after a terrible non-conference season and then going 12-4 in the SEC. The Wildcats will be led by a senior backcourt in Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford. Kentucky will want to slow it down and play half court basketball and allow their guards to go one on one.Marquette finished 6th in the Big East and made it to the Big East Tournament semifinals. Marquette burst onto the national scene in 2003 with a guard named Dwayne Wade against, oddly enough, Kentucky in the Elite 8. The Golden Eagles are very similar to Kentucky in that they heavily depend on their guards for offense. Jerel McNeil averages just under 15 points while his backcourt mate Dominic James hands out close to 5 assists a game. Oklahoma State @ Southern Illinois u122.0 (-110) Tue Mar 18 ‘08 9:00p The Southern Illinois Salukis are accustomed to playing low scoring games in the Missouri Valley Conference, while the Oklahoma State Cowboys do not object to a half-court pace either, so points should be at a premium tonight. The Under is 4-1 in the last five Southern [...]

    NCAA Tournament Preview: East Region
    2008-03-17 23:26:28
The beasts of the East, UNC, must be ticked with the way things turned out. In order to make it to the Final Four in San Antonio, they might have to beat Louisville or Tennessee and/or Indiana and/or Notre Dame. That's not right. As the number one overall seed, they deserve an easier path to the Alamodome. But, as a consolation, their first four games would all be played in Carolina. A friendly crowd can be the difference maker in a tough game, so this is key.And while at first glance the other highly seeded teams in this region are tough, in actuality, they've each got issues: Louisville hasn't shown us any proof that they have what it takes to make a title run; Tennessee's zany and unpredictable coach might be their undoing; Indiana has the talent, but the upheaval is going to be too much to overcome. Only once in recent memory, Michigan in 1989, has a team in such turmoil been able to succeed in the tourney. And Notre Dame, a chic sleeper pick in the East, well, is Notre Dame and for

    Tom Stryker's Conference Tournament Money-Maker
    2008-03-17 15:50:00
On Wednesday, March 12th, college basketball's major conferences will tip off their annual post season tournaments. This is the perfect appetizer to the Big Dance and this five-day hardwood run can provide all of us with excellent wagering opportunities. Thanks to my powerful hoops database, I've been able to grind out a nice profit in March Madness over the years. A great deal of my winnings has come in the first round (or donkey round) of the tournament. Some of the conference's worst teams can

    It's NCAA Tournament Time!!!
    2008-03-17 15:38:32
Well, after being chased out of yet another country, TJI is back, baby! And we're ready to rumble. If there's one thing our editors love more than fantasy football and the Dharma Initiative, it's gambling. And nothing provides more sports betting pleasure than the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. So our return to glory won't be through NFL Draft Analysis. (Frankly, we find that as fun as a soggy piece of toast. We'll leave it to Mel Kiper. What is with his hair, by the way? It's time for a new look, boy-o.)Instead, we offer up a break down of the NCAA Tournament field. And just like our fantasy football coverage, our analysis will be spot-on. Count on TJI to help you win your office pool.So check back later today as we start to break down each region!

The main site of the tournament is located about 6.2 miles from Chapais on the Bank of lake Opémiska. Within the amateur category, there would be more then 80,000$ in prizes in the different contests: Opemiska contest, James Bay contest, Feminine contest and the youth contest. SEC Tournament Moves to Georgia Tech
    2008-03-15 22:09:17
google.comE6 Georgia vs E2 Kentucky 12:00 PMThe Georgia Kentucky game postponed last night due to weather/facility issues has been rescheduled for today at Noon. This game and the rest of the SEC Tournament will be played at Georgia Tech just up the road. As you can see from the image, Tech's coliseum does not hold nearly the amount of the Georgia Dome and per the SEC only families and working media will be allowed inside. "Catlanta" will now take to the streets! See my preview of the game here.E1 Tennessee vs W2 Arkansas 6:00 PMPrevious Meetings: Tenn (Home) 93-71Both of these teams will have a longer layoff than anticipated due to the rescheduling of games. Tennessee dominated the only meeting of the year way back in January. I would think Arkansas is in the NCAAT now, but a win over Tennessee would definitely put them in. I think Tennessee had their big scare of the SEC Tournament against a lesser team yesterday. For Arkansas to win, they need to make this a half court game a

    ACC Tournament Saturday Previews
    2008-03-14 23:57:41
reuters/yahoo#1 North Carolina vs #4 Virginia Tech 1:30 PMPrevious Meetings: UNC (Home) 92-53So far the ACC has held form regarding the top seeds advancing to Saturday. North Carolina destroyed Virginia Tech earlier this year in Chapel Hill. It is hard to blow out a good team in a conference tournament and I expect a close game. I like North Carolina's rebounding ability in this game and that was a big reason for the Hokies win over Miami. North Carolina is challenged for 35min, but pulls away at the end.Prediction; North Carolina#2 Duke vs #3 Clemson 4:00 PMPrevious Meetings: Duke (Home) 93-80Many thought when these two teams met back in January that the Tigers would give Duke a strong run for their money, but the Blue Devils controlled most of the game keeping Clemson at arms length. Duke hit 24 FT and Clemson turned the ball over 20 times in the only meeting of the season. Both teams cruised to relatively easy victories on Friday night, but Clemson will have the shorter turnar

    ACC Tournament Second Round Previews

#9 Florida State vs #1 North Carolina 12PMPrevious Meetings: UNC (Away) 84-73, UNC (Home) 90-77The Seminoles took control early vs Wake Forest on Thursday and never let go. They will face a well rested Tar Heel team who looks to be rounding into top form with NCAAA tourney time just around the corner. The Heels will have too much inside play from Tyler Hansbrough for FSU to overcome. North Carolina cruises to Saturday.Prediction: North Carolina#4 Virginia Tech vs #5 Miami 2:30 PMPrevious Meetings: Miami (Away) 74-71This should be the best match up of the day pitting two teams who were thought to be "football only" additions to the ACC a few years back. The Hurricanes won the only game this year in Blacksburg, but it was Virginia Tech who secured the #4 seed and the first round bye. Miami should be in, but VT probably needs a win or two to help their cause. Sometimes having already played a game can be helpful to that team especially early in the game. I like Miami in this one.Pr

    SEC Tournament Second Round Previews
    2008-03-14 07:01:56
E5 South Carolina vs E1 Tennessee 1PMPrevious Meetings: Tenn (Away) 80-56, Tenn (Home) 89-56The Volunteers invade Atlanta fresh off their SEC regular season title and will face a South Carolina club they have beaten twice most recently last Saturday by 33 points. South Carolina's Dave Odom is retiring after this season and is very likely staring at his last game. The Vols should win this one easily.Prediction: TennesseeE3 Vanderbilt vs W2 Arkansas 3:15PMPrevious Meetings: Arkansas (Home) 78-73Since losing 4 of 5 in the middle of the season, Vandy has ripped off 8 wins in their last 10. Meanwhile, Arkansas has lost 5 of their last 8 and is squarely on the NCAA bubble. The Razorbacks won the only meeting of the year in Fayetteville. I think this one could be the best game of the day and will come right down to the wire. I like Vanderbilt's inside/outside combo to be the difference.Prediction: VanderbiltW5 Alabama vs W1 Mississippi State 7:30 PMPrevious Meetings: Miss St (Away) 66-5

    ACC Tournament First Round
    2008-03-13 09:11:50
AP/Yahoo#8 Wake Forest vs #9 Florida StatePrevious Meeting: WF (Home) 74-57, WF (Away) 78-70The Deacons come into the ACC Tournament limping to the finish after making a run at a NCAA Tournament bid earlier. Florida State got a good win over Miami last weekend and will be looking to avenge two regular season losses to the Deacs. The Seminoles have been an up and down team this year, like most years under Leonard Hamilton. I think FSU is on an upswing right now and wins. Their prize is playing North Carolina in the next round.Prediction: Florida State#5 Miami vs #12 NC StatePrevious Meeting: NC State (Home) 79-77NC State has lost 8 in a row to finish last in the conference. Much of the blame has gone to bad PG play and bad chemistry on offense with players bickering over touches and playing time. The Wolfpack have been known to make runs in the ACCCT like they did last year, but they don't have that in them this year. I like Miami.Prediction: Miami#7 Georgia Tech vs #10 VirginiaPrevious

    2008-03-13 08:15:42
AP/Yahoo E5 South Carolina vs W4 LSU 1:00 PMPrevious Meeting: LSU (Away) 62-5LSU has played better down the stretch since the firing of John Brady, including an earlier win over South Carolina on the road. The Gamecocks have one of the better backcourts in the conference led by Devan Downey and Zam Frederick. LSU always seems to fair well in Atlanta in SEC Tournaments/Championships. I like LSU and their new found energy.Prediction: LSUE3 Vanderbilt vs W6 Auburn 3:15 PMPrevious Meeting: Vandy (Home) 78-71Vanderbilt, despite its lofty national ranking, failed to secure a first round bye and now must face a dangerous Auburn team. The Commodores struggled a bit with Auburn at home earlier this year winning by just 7. But Vandy should have too much inside/outside with AJ Ogilvy and Shon Foster for the Tigers.Prediction: VanderbiltE4 Florida vs W5 Alabama 7:00 PMPrevious Meeting: Florida (Away) 90-83Florida and Alabama have not squared off since way back in January; back when we thought

    Ochoa wins HSBC Champions Tournament
    2008-03-02 19:23:50
World No.1 Lorena Ochoa cruised to an 11-stroke win at the $US2 million ($A2.11 million) Women's Champions tournament on Sunday on her season debut. Sweden's Annika Sorenstam finished second on nine under with American Paula Creamer in third place two shots further back. Australia's Karrie Webb finished in a tie for fifth with American Stacy Prammanasudh on five under, 15 shots off the pace. On a day when monsoon-like storms sent spectators sprinting for cover and left others cowering under umbrellas, Mexican Ochoa produced a solid 68 for a combined 20-under par at the Tanah Merah Country Club. Play was suspended several times due to the torrential downpours that submerged greens, left puddles on the fairways and had players kicking their heels in the clubhouse. The final group took eight hours to complete their round. The 26-year-old Ochoa, the only player to shoot four rounds under 70, takes home a cheque for $US300,000 ($A316,400) for the win.

Arena tournament items revealedFiled under: Items, Events, PvP, Contests, ArenaYou remember that 3v3 Arena tournament we told you about? The one with $200,000 worth of prize money, that's going to be played on private servers full of premade characters and paved with free epics? Well, today Blizzard announced which items you're going to be able to choose from, should you decide to cough up the $20 entrance fee. Let's take a look.First off, there's high-quality ammo, reagents, bandages, poisons, food, and water. Boring enough. In case you feel the need to look really bad-ass, or to get from place to place faster, you can grab Reins of the Black War Tiger/Horn of the Black War Wolf. All that is fine, but what about actual gear? All the Season 2 Merciless Gladiator gear is available, and all the Tier 5 class sets. There are also selected other items from the tier 5 raids (SSC and TK), as well as some badge loot to fill in the gaps. I'm even seeing the odd T4 raid item, like the Eye o

Unreal Tournament III gets PS3 user-created LEGO modFiled under: Videos and Screenshots, Downloads, NewsLove playing Unreal Tournament 3? Love LEGOs? Then you're going to be thrilled by this bit of news. A talented gamer has created a LEGO-inspired UT3 mod for the PS3 version of the multi-platform shooter. The coolest part of this mod has got to be watching the LEGO blocks break apart when you fire at them. It would've been equally fun to have the ability to build stuff back up, but that would probably distract players from killing each other like they're suppose to.Hit the jump for another video clip or, if you're already planning on getting this mod for yourself, you can download it here. D-ROOM Bowling Tournament
    2008-01-23 09:11:36
The D-ROOM creative team took a well earned break from work on Friday afternoon (17th) for a 'friendly' game of bowls at Middlebrook, Bolton. Following a quick bite at Nandos (respect to Tony for lapping up liberal helpings on the extra hot peri-peri sauce) the gang descended on Hollywood Bowl where the fun began. Some breathtaking Michael Jackson-like footwork saw Chris take an early lead - in addition to attracting some admiring glances from several bowlers in neighbouring lanes (apparently no phone numbers were exchanged!). Mad Dog McNair threw some erratic bowls which saw the sides taking a severe pounding and Rob was sadly playing a game that only vaguely resembled bowls! Despite Chris' early promise, Paul came through at the final stages to take the first and second games with embarrassing ease. Having been despatched to the bar, the cranberry juice must have got to him as Paul decided to start game three with a different colour bowling ball which saw his game go pear shaped. Tony

    Christmas Reviews: Unreal Tournament III
    2008-01-06 20:41:46
The deathmatch king has returned in it's 3rd reincarnation. The Unreal Tournament franchise has been known for it's ultra fast paced, no mercy gameplay, and Unreal Tournament III is no different. There are both Single, and Multi-player modes, though if you have heard of Unreal Tournament at all you will know that it is basically a multiplayer game. The single-player side is more or less multi-player but with computer enemies, so there really isn't much difference aside from having to use the Internet to play against other people. I would guess the graphics could be great, but as I mentioned in my Call of Duty 4 review, I don't have that great of a PC. It can run the game, just not that well. But if you have any of the newer high-end graphics cards from ATI or nVidia, then you'll be fine. The map design is amazing, and genius. No two areas look alike at all, and with multi-level buildings, teleporters, and awesome power-ups skewered across each map, you will never get tired of looking at the landscapes. Gameplay is very fun, and intense. There are around 7 game modes. You have the typical Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and with new modes like Warfare, and Vehicle Capture the Flag, which add vehicle elements to the game. All are great fun, and will not disappoint. This game, like no other, is extremely fast paced, and in no way realistic. If you stand in place for a mere second you are bound to be killed. The weapons are really great as well, from chemical launching Bioguns, to the classic rocket launcher, Unreal fans will love the arsenal. Though there are many game types and weapons and such, unfortunately there aren't as many people playing online on the PC as I would like. For every game type, or at least the ones I have checked, there are maybe 4 or 5 servers with a decent amount of people in them. Overall it is a great game, but it could be better. Maybe more game modes, and more people playing would greatly increase my wanting to play the

    Second Annual Texas Teapot Tournament
    2008-01-04 10:18:00
By Dusti Rhodes Short, stout, handle and spout will all be taken for an interesting spin today at the “Second Annual Texas Teapot Tournament.” The competition features plenty of interesting takes on the teakettle by potters from around the globe. The creations range from traditional pots to more abstract designs that — if they could talk — might get all steamed up and shout, “How the hell do you tip me over and pour me out?”Artists such as Joanne Taylor Brown, Nancy Goodearl and Joy Tanner offer more traditional teapots, with a touch of inspiration from seashells, houseplants and haystacks, respectively. Among the more abstract ones are Mirtha Aertker’s, which have baby arms and legs sticking out of the tops and sides. And Meryl Ruth, who won the Memorial Award in last year’s tournament, returns this year with a teapot that looks exactly like a purse — save for the spout.See if these are your cup of tea, and don’t forget to vote for the People’s Choice Award at today’s opening reception from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 3195 Inwood (private residence). After today the exhibit will be moved to the Houston Potters Guild. Regular viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Through January 31. 2726 White Oak Drive. For information, call 713-528-7687 or visit www.houstonpotters.com. Free.Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 5. Continues through Jan. 31, 2008
