| Small Town Bells in the Death Valley... | | 2008-07-23 03:38:00 | | The fabulous and ever so productive Danish one-man project Death Valley Sleepers has published yet another track. The newbie is called Small Town Bells and as great as it is, it doesn’t really bring much new to the table, as the music continues to sound like The Jesus and Mary Chain joining The Raveonettes in a time machine on a nostalgic trip back to the 60’s to team up with The Velvet Underground. But the real news of the day is that Death Valley Sleepers have finally announced the date of their first gig, which will take place at Rust in Copenhagen on August 28. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it to their first live performance, but hopefully this means that more concerts will be soon be announced! I’ve done a bit of counting (I’m normally very good at this) and have reach the conclusion that the band has published at least 12 different tracks or pretty much an album worth of music. For your convenience I’ve posted 10 of the tracks below (all of them are free to do | | By: Hits In The Car | | |

It has become front page news in Morocco with most newspapers devoting their headlines and editorials to the channel's coverage of the protests in the southwestern port city of Sidi Ifni and the trial of Hassan Rachidi, its bureau chief in Rabat, on charges of providing false information. The trial is scheduled to begin tomorrow. Ahmed El Amraoui in Rabat reportsWhile some lashed out at Al Jazeera, accusing it of circulating false stories to tarnish the image of the country, others stood by the channel. Relations between Morocco and the Doha-based channel have deteriorated sharply of late. First Al Jazeera was banned from broadcasting a daily news bulletin on North Africa. The decision according to Khalid Naciri, Moroccan communication minister and official spokesman of the government, was due to technical and legal issues. | | Mandatory solar panels in German town of Marburg | | 2008-06-28 18:47:09 | | The central German town of Marburg is the first in German to make solar panels mandatory for almost all rooftops of private and commercial buildings. The controversial new law requires a solar panel for every new building and every old building that is being renovated. The historical buildings such as the Marburg Castle, Marburg's City Hall, and the Elisabeth Church will be exempt from the requirement. The solar law was approved by the town's council on June 20, and will take effect Oct. 1. According to the law, a 1 square meter (10 square feet) panel must be installed for every 20 square meters (200 square feet) of surface area. Installing the panels could cost homeowners up to €5,000 ($7,800). The cost would be paid off through savings in energy bills over a 15-year period, the town's mayor, Franz Kahle, said. Those violating the law will face fines starting at €1,000 ($1,500). The town is home to Marburg University and has about 80,000 residents. | | David Davis in 24 to 1 - A new game show's in town! | | 2008-06-26 15:56:59 | | A record number of candidates. David Davis is up against Ronnie Carroll and David Icke amongst others. Roses are not red in Howden and neither are they in New Labour. A rosy shade of pink hangs over this contest.
I am all in favour of David Davis' campaign against the creeping control freakery of New Labour, or tarnished Labour as it now is. But I am getting the feeling that this won't help much. The only real contest here is between the minor parties and who can save their deposit first.
The English Democrats are joined in the fray by the Green Party, Socialist Equality Party, Monster Raving Loony Party, National Front (still trundling along), the New Party (new as in New Forest), the Christian Party, and the Church of the Militant Elvis Party. Ronnie Carroll is standing for making politicians history. Kind of self-defeating if he gets elected. Oh, and the Generalist Party didn't make the numbers.
These are the serious candidates -

I played the country bumpkin last night, and just listened to my esteemed colleagues as they prattled off their opinions on worldly affairs. we did this at length. the time passed quickly.and before you know it, the time showed 1am thereabouts. we all ventured back out into the parking lot and continued our prattle out there before heading home. an average night, but sufficient to leave me with a smile before I left the scene.that was last night....today, I woke up early. super glenn called to inform me of a new all-you-can-eat buffet that just opened up at the mbk mall. | | By: Life of a Lounge Lizard

Myth "Jacksonville is a "College Town".

The city of Jacksonville, according to this myth, is unable to maintain a relationship with the Jaguars because their focus is on the college game of the University of Florida and Florida State University, with a little bit of University of Georgia and University of Miami tossed in for flavor. | | PHUKET TOWN | | 2008-05-31 10:01:59 | | Thought it has plentiful hotels and restaurants, Phuket Town stands distinct from the tailor-made tourist settlements along the beaches as a place geared primarily towards its residents. Most visitors hang about just long enough to jump on a beach-bound songthaew (local minibus), but you may find yourself returning for a welcome dose of real life; Phuket town has an enjoyably authentic market and some of the best handicraft shops on the island. If you’re on a tight budget, the town is worth considering as a base, as accommodation and food come a little less expensive, and you can get out to all the beaches with relative ease. Bear in mind, though, that the town offers little in the way of nightlife, and as public transport to and form the more lively beaches stops at dusk, you’ll have to either rent your own wheels or spend a lot of money on tuk-tuks.Aside from a manically bustling market on Thanon Ranong there’s not a great deal to see, though a two-hour wander around the street | | By: Islands and Beaches Information of Thailand
| | Michael Jackson, The Nasal Cripple Is Back In Town | | 2008-05-29 09:30:00 | | Once upon a time… Michael Jackson was nicknamed ‘Big Nose’. Yes, it’s absolutely true. The former entertainer and singer made a rare appearance for designer Christian Audigier's 50th birthday and was as usual dressed up in his idea of party wear (flashy satin shirt and faux leather pants). It never fails to amaze me how much his face degenerates every time he appears for any party or social events. His face has had so many nips and tucks with multiple plastic surgeries that he has become unrecognizable from the black pop star who had fans screaming his name and imitating his every dance move. One plastic surgeon is of the opinion that Michael has had at least five nose enhancement surgeries during the course of his career. But in a documentary that he starred in early in 2003 he commented that he had only two rhinoplasty procedures. I imagined myself one day being a very successful career woman in a loft apartment in a large city. I also imagined I would be married and have 2 kids.So I headed off to college, newly married to my high school sweetheart, with these ideas rolling around in my head. And then during my second year we decided we wanted to have kids quickly. Becca was born during the semester break in 1995. And all of my dreams suddenly took on a new twist. Working and becoming that famous career woman suddenly didn't sound appealing at all. We both decided that daycare was not for us or our kids and I would stay home after college. So we juggled our classes so one of us was always home with Becca. We graduated another kid and three years later. And I stayed home. Now here we are almost 15 years later and I have been a very happy stay-at-home-mom. I exceeded my dream of two kids and will have my 8th in just a few short months. | | Massachusetts Town Considers Local Lottery | | 2008-05-20 23:00:00 | | We have pointed out the flaws of state-run lotteries many, many times: they impose taxes paid disproportionately by the poor; they're not transparent, or honestly labeled as taxes; the revenue is often not spent as promised; they impose an unfairly high implicit tax rate on one particular consumer good; and they unnecessarily increase the overall complexity of a state's tax system. There's also a question of whether running a gambling enterprise, as a monopoly business, is an appropriate activity for a state government. We have repeated these arguments again and again in various forms: op-eds, studies, blog posts, commentaries, amicus briefs, and legislative testimony. But now, after all that work, it looks like we might have to start all over again and repeat these same arguments, but with the word "local" instead or "state"—at least if one Worcester, MA, city council member has his way. From the Worcester Telegram & Gazette:As municipal off | | By: Tax Policy Blog | | |

| | Cape Town Car Rental | | 2008-05-10 04:20:59 | | In my personal opinion the best way to travel is by car. So when my friend, Greg, and I decided to go on a trip down to Cape Town we decided that car rental would be the first on our ”must-do” list. We opted for a small hatchback to zip around on our trip from Cape Town to Hermanus and back to the Cape winelands. On the road We wanted to go to Hermanus for two reasons. First and foremost to go visit my old and dear friend Michelle, and secondly for the Whale festival. The drive from Cape Town to Hermanus is beautiful. Scenic views as you drive Sir Lowry’s mountain pass filled with flowers, then small farmhouses and the occasional shop where you can buy some of the fresh farm produce that you would never be able to get in the city. So we stopped at Aunt Millie’s Farm Stall. Known for her fresh home cooked pies we of course couldn’t resist stopping for a bite first. While sitting in the car savouring one of Aunt Millie’s notorious pies, we were surrounded by the most breath-ta | | By: Cheap Car Rental Tips | | |

| | The Bats Are Back In Town! YES!! Boston Red Sox 12 Toronto Blue Jays 4 | | 2008-05-04 04:26:00 | | Peter here on a quiet Sunday morning, early style. Last night at Fenway Park, the Boston lumber again made its presence known in a big way as the home club banged out fifteen (!!) hits and scored twelve runs in a 12-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Josh Beckett was the recipient of the offensive output and was able to easily win the game. He went eight strong innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while striking out five. And so the Red Sox strong starting pitching continues to shine brightly and unrelentlessly, and as I said earlier in the week, when the bats stir to life, this club will win many games. They are in first place in the American League East right now, with Jon Lester, coming off the best start of his young career, ready to face Scott Kazmir in HIS "opening day" appearance. We have to hope he's a little rusty, a little slow and not quite ready to face a hot-hitting team. For when he is on, HE IS ON and tough to beat. But the Sox have been putting their bats o | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| | Kearny Avenue Valero is town's most expensive gas | | 2008-04-26 23:12:00 | | The Kearny Avenue Valero gets the unheralded distinction of being the town's most expensive gas as of today.A gallon of regular sells for $3.49, plus goes for $3.69 and super sells for $3.79. (Of course, as has been happening a lot lately at gas stations, the prices could easily jump considerably overnight, so don't think that $3.49 is by any means stable). It appears the generic station at Seeley and Kearny avenues has the cheapest regular as of today, where a gallon sells for $3.39 a gallon.Even Jersey Oil, near the old Pete's Place, is selling regular at a whopping $3.47 a gallon. It just gets worse and worse and worse. | | By: The Hudson Line Blog | | |

| | Big Bats Make Debut In Chi-Town | | 2008-04-23 09:57:00 | | AP/Fox Sports:Bobby Abreu hit a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh, Johnny Damon added a three-run shot in the eighth and Jason Giambi also homered, helping gritty Chien-Ming Wang get his 50th career win in a 9-5 victory Tuesday night."The guys did a good job of getting on base and we scored eight of our runs off home runs," Damon said. "When you are able to get a grand slam and a three-run homer, it makes things a lot easier."The Yankees had struggled scoring runs with only 85 in their first 20 games. But with the injured Alex Rodriguez missing his first game while in Miami for the birth of his second daughter, New York's offense took off."We're supposed to score runs. We're an offensive team. That's what we're here for," said Abreu, who's used to having Rodriguez bat behind him."You have a guy like behind you like Alex, they are going to just come right at you. It's a different thing. You just have to get yourself prepared when Alex is not here," Abreu said. "I just make my adjustmen | | By: The Bronx Stop: Just Another New York Yankees Blog | | |

Sioux City is the one place that we have visited, is the western theme park in Gran Canary Island. They have many different shows which my husband and I enjoyed watching the fantastic shows including "Duel until death", "Bank Robbery", "Town Square Hanging" and "Indian Rain Dance" among the most popular, complete with cowboys, Indians, Mexicans and of course a sheriff. The show was great with cattle, cows, shootouts, knife throwing and with can can girls. We enjoyed the show in every minute. One man asked to my husband if he could go to the stage and join the contest. My husband wondered what they are going to do. There were 10 people on the contest. The host was showing to them of what they are going to do, just shooting the gun of how they are so fast shooting, every two persons will present, and do shoot each other. | | | Cape Town Car Rental Tips To Get You Started | | 2008-04-01 09:59:37 | | Why is a Cape Town car rental the most economical and convenient way to see the city, particularly if you are traveling together with a partner, family or group? For starters, public transportation around Cape Town and the surrounding area is at best time-consuming and at worst, downright dangerous. The costs of taking private taxis or arranging guided tours quickly mount up for larger parties. In addition, tour company timetables may not fit your schedule. For all these reasons, Cape Town car rentals make the most sense for a Cape Town vacation.6 Tips to Get You StartedDrivers license Any person who will be driving the rental car will need an international driver's license if they do not have a South African one. In addition, the international license must be written in English. Requesting additional authorized drivers may incur extra charges.Insurance Read the small print carefully. | | Eunos Town Day | | 2008-03-23 15:33:01 | | After spending the entire Saturday preparing for Youth OUT!, I was back at Grassroots work at the Eunos Town Day event on Sunday morning. Held at the Old Temporary Market, the event was organised by Eunos Zone '1' RC. My Zone was designated to man the "Children Fishing" station, so there I was facilitating and managing the children at the tank, timing them and at times scooping some fishes for those disappointed children who didn't manage to get any. The queue of children never ceased to end throughout the event. Children fishing is a very attractive game and proud to say, it was introduced by my Zone into Eunos when we hosted the Eunos Precinct Day. Initially I started off adhering very strictly to the rules and regulations of the games. Later learnt that it's a grassroots event and the main point is for the residents to enjoy, so I became flexible and even started playing with the kids. This is something enjoyable.
