Spiritual Healing in Islamic Sufi Tradition
    2008-07-09 21:16:40
"Consciously or unconsciously every being is capable of healing himself or others. This instinct is inborn in insects, birds, and beasts, as well as in man. All these find their own medicine and heal themselves and each other in various ways. In ancient days the doctors and healers learned much from animals about the treatment of disease. This shows that natural intuition has manifested in the lower creation as well as in the higher." - Sufi Message of Hazrat Inayat Khan, Healing and the Mind World[] What is Spiritual Healing in Islamic Sufi Tradition?Islamic sufi tradition is rich in the practice of spiritual healing. From earlier Biblical and Quranic apostles to Muhammad, the last messenger of God and then later passed down to sufi masters - spiritual healing has always been part of golden heritage and lineage of the sufis. The Sufi healing method is an Islamic healing method using Divine spiritual power practiced exclusively by the Sufis for centuries. A New Christmas Tradition
    2008-07-05 02:09:01
One particular Christmas a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip... but there were problems everywhere. Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones, so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule. Then, Mrs. Claus told him that her Mom was coming to visit. This stressed Santa even more. Then when he went to harness the Reindeer, he found three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where. More stress. Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground, and scattered the toys. So, frustrated, Santa went back into the house for a cup of coffee and a shot of whiskey. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had hid the liquor and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the coffee pot and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen

    Tradition, Daughters Of The Divine
    2008-06-28 08:53:00
כ"ה סיון התשס"חAlban Heruin 26I dreamt.I had a baby girl somewhere down the (family) line. Her birth name is Gwenn. Gwenn is a Welsh name meaning blessed. An inner name within her birth name is Susy (סוסי literally means 'my horse' and mystically means to actively project the Creative Evolutionary Power of the Infinite into the finite).I nursed her in the dark.Susy has a talent no other human child has - she can dematerialize and rematerialize to teletransport herself from place to place in spacetime like on Star Trek. Only, unlike Star Trek, Susy doesn't need a transporter machine. She can actualize it naturally, at will.In the dream, Susy teletransported herself between points in the living room, rematerializing against the surface of my right leg. As she did this, I heard Susy in conversation with unheard unseen spiritual beings neither I nor anyone else in the room could see or hear. The language Susy spoke in simple song was Divine, primordial, pristine, exquisitely

Interpretation of dreams in Islamic Wisdom Tradition
    2008-06-10 02:04:06
1.On many occasions Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace, after finishing the morning prayer in the mosque, he would face the companions and ask, "Who amongst you had a dream last night?" So if anyone had seen a dream he /she would narrate it. The Prophet would say: "Ma sha'a-llah" (God has willed it) and he would continue interpreting the dream. Thus dream interpretation, specially in group was practiced from the very time of the Prophet, which tradition is also carried and practiced in many sufi orders and has distinguished place in Islamic wisdom tradition.2.Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said, "Nothing is left of Prophethood except glad tidings." Those with him asked, "What are glad tidings?" He replied, "True dreams / visions."- Sahih Al-BukhariThe Prophet Muhammad mentioned that after he was gone prophecy would come only through true dreams. Based on this and other statements, early Muslims created what might be called a theology of dreams. Dreams were regarded as an importan

Religious Tradition and History of the Amish
    2008-03-27 08:49:25
http://amishwiki.org/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=7 Religion and religious practice are fundamental to the Amish people. Amish faith is not simply about an abstract religious doctrine but rather an entire way of living. Currently, although the Amish people almost exclusively inhabit the mid-western region of the United States, the Amish movement has its historical roots in Europe. Furthermore, nearly all people of Amish faith are born and raised within their community; rarely has outside conversion been demonstrated. Ranging from self proclamation as protestants and Anabaptists, and although similar in both practice and history to the Mennonites, the Amish live under a vastly different lifestyle than their fellow Christian brethren. The history of the Amish religion shares deeply its roots with the traditions of the Mennonites, both of whom formed in the early 16th century out of a group of Swiss Anabaptist—literally, twice baptized—sects that developed as a backlash against

WAYANG BEBER - The Ancient Tradition of East Java
    2008-03-06 22:33:00
A classical Wayang Beber Performance in 1900One of some kinds of wayang in East Java is Wayang Beber - they have nearly vanished. The most popular of all forms is Wayang Beber Pacitan. This kind of wayang is neither made of wood not leather but paintings drawn on a scrolled sheets of bark paper. Every scene in the story is painted on a piece of paper in rotation.Since when this kind of wayang has been found in Pacitan exactly is not known yet, nevertheless the age of the existing wayang Beber has reached an age of 12 generations up to the present. The performer (Dalang) gives a sign, the gamelan orchestra (or a musician with a violin-like instrument) begins to play and the Dalang unrolls a picture related to the story. Then, speaking and singing, he narrates the story in more detail. In this manner, in the course of the evening he unrolls several pictures. The pictures are shown one at a time and are successively unrolled. Each picture represents a story or part of a story. The story na

    Unified Aspects Of Tradition
    2008-01-19 14:45:00
י"ב בשבט תשס"חImbolgen 12In follow-up to my earlier posts, Advent Of The Black Crow & The Exodus and Raven Of The Land, I also want to point out that my one dream as described in the first entry contains within it three major aspects of transmutative Tradition (just as the Morrígan is sometimes perceived as a triple goddess and sometimes as a single goddess), namely:The Black Crow, symbolizing the archetypal Feminine Power of the UnderWorld. The Guardian and the Guide, symbolizing guardianship of Sovereignty and guidance toward one's correct developmental path. The Summoning of the Ancestors, evident in the correlation of the Green Lion alchemical stage with both the greenfield of the dream and my Jewish ancestors, Will and Sue Grunwald (meaning Greenfield); and Remembering the Future, evident in my dream's interpretive link to my chotimah (the flame of the future world).

    * New Year’s tradition *
    2008-01-02 03:09:00
Meme from Kikay. Now I am tagging to my friends, Sis Melanie, Justine,Ging2x and AnnaRule:Copy the person and persons’ names that sent it to you and add your own at the bottom of the list. It really helps to build community. Here goes:What are some of your new year’s good luck traditions?I don't have any New Year Tradition...We just celebrating and preparing foods, 12 round shaped fruits on the table and we thanks to God that the all things what he gave and the another year's come. “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” SwitzPhilsI don’t really believe that much New year’s tradition but since I was grew up with it I tried to do so and It is a little effective to bring luck through the years. But what I do believe much, luck is in your hands with prayers and belief to God. No matter what tradition you will try to follow if you don’t acknowledge God as the total source of your supply then everything will be worthless. Everything is a blessing from Him. I also collect coins and put in a wallet and make noise during new years eve, round fruits, dressing up nicely, putting different kinds of menu in dining table, jumping to increase height ha-ha, Avoid spending money at new years day and yeah that polka dots clothes. One thing I remember before we pick a rose flower and put it in a glass of water and then every member of the family will share drinking the water to keep us family binded through the years.kikay-site.netMy beloved mother told us don’t open the money pouches until a few days have passed. Traditional New Year foods are also thought to bring luck, she said 13 different kinds of fruits is good luck, and family together around tables of traditional foods. lolli of s0-cute.netMy mom used to collect some coins and when the new year comes she put the coins in a bowl and shake it to create sounds. She said its good luck for money throughout the year. And also wearing dotted dresses on new year don’t know why. CC and chalyza and

Gingerbread Latte - A Christmas Tradition
    2007-12-26 12:57:04
People say that there's always a first time to everything, and though you pretty much govern whether you want to do something or not, there are times when you just get carried away by the flow and end up trying something you might have had some reservations about. One such thing that happened to me after coming to US was tasting different coffee flavors, and I must say, it was the best thing ever! I love flavored lattes, hazelnut and tiramisu being my all-time favorites. But this holiday season, my friend at work made me taste the traditional gingerbread latte. She took me to Starbucks and paid for my coffee just so I would get to know and taste the wild and spicy flavor that is zipped up in this one amazing drink! This seasonal favorite will surely make you feel warm and cozy, and ignite fond memories of the gingerbread man and the spirit of christmas!Gingerbread has its roots in Europe, mainly Germany. In Medieval England gingerbread simply meant "preserved ginger", and was traditionally used as a soft, delicately spiced cake, a crisp, flat cookie, or as warm, thick and dark squares of "bread"; but it was almost always cut into shapes such as men, women, stars or animals, and colorfully decorated or dusted with white sugar. During the 19th century, gingerbread was modernized. The German fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel, two children who, abandoned in the woods by penniless parents, discovered a house made of bread, cake and candies - gave a whole new and fancy look to an age-old tradition and lead to the birth of beautiful Gingerbread Houses, which are now baked in almost every North American household.Whether you believe in traditions or just want to indulge in a sweet and spicy flavor, gingerbread latte is one thing that you should definitely try. Here's an easy way to make one, and this is one drink that shouts "Merry Christmas!!"Ingredients2 ounces espresso coffee powder2 tbsp gingerbread flavored syrup (available in all coffee stores or supermarkets)(recipe

    The Yule Log Tradition Continues
    2007-12-24 21:44:00
It was a big success last year on my blog, so let's do it again and begin a tradition. Here is the famous "Yule Log," that has been a staple of WPIX-TV here in New York for many years. It debuted in 1966, left the air for a few years in the 1990s, but popular demand brought it back to the air. It will be on TV at 9 AM on Christmas morning (and it will be followed by the classic film, "March of the Wooden Soldiers" of course). Unfortunately I have no music for you to enjoy. So here is the second annual Mighty Quinn Media Machine Yule Log. I hope you enjoy the crackling fire anyway. Have a Merry Christmas.

The Light Show at Christmas Time!OK, I know we were going to take a break from blogging until Christmas Day was over but, we decided to slip this one in just before the holiday...Today, my Mommy and Grammy took me on a trip downtown to see something called "The Light Show". But first, we stopped at a place called the "Reading Terminal Market" and had some lunch at a place called Delilah's.After we ate, we went to a really big place called a "department store" and the name of it was Macy's. When we went inside, I saw lots of people with little kids just like me. I guess they were all there to see The Light Show too. We came across a couple of nice spots to take some pics...a sleigh-in-the-snow display and the Macy's Christmas tree. After we wandered around the store a bit, we took an elevator ride to the second floor (Mommy let me push the button). When we got off, we looked around for a really good spot to see The Light Show and found one. While we waited for the show to begin, everyone was singing Christmas songs and clapping their hands. Finally, it was time for the show to start. I heard a loud voice coming from somewhere and telling Christmas stories about the lights. At the end of the show, all of the lights for all of the stories lit up and the whole wall was covered in lights! When it was over, Mommy told me that Grammy always took her to see The Light Show at Christmas time when she was a little girl and how much she liked it. Then, Grammy told me that her Mommy always took her to see it when she was a little girl and how much she liked it. Now, wait just a minute... how old is this Light Show anyway? Oh well, I'm glad they took me to see it...I really liked it too!And now, for all of my family and friends who don't live in Philly, you can watch The Light Show right here, right now. Just click the play button...Enjoy!

    Filipino Christmas Tradition
    2007-12-23 06:48:00
It is a Filipino tradition for children to visit their godparents and elderly relativeson Christmas day. This child is showing respect for his godmother by taking her hand to his forehead. In return, he receives a blessing or a gift.It is probably the longest in the world. It begins as early as September and ends as late as end of January. With the advent of the "-ber" months (Septem-ber, Octo-ber...), one can already hear strains of Christmas carols everywhere - in the malls, on the streets and even in offices. Christmas is, as the cliche goes, just around the corner. It seems that Filipinos cannot wait for Christmas.Christmas in the Philippines is a mixture of Western and native Filipino traditions. Santa Claus, the Christmas tree, sending Christmas cards, and singing carols have all been inherited from the cultures of the West. However, these have all been adapted to fit the nature and personality of the Filipino people.Christmas Eve in the Philippines is one of the traditions most

    Mangosteen History and Tradition
    2007-12-16 20:44:00
History & TraditionHaving originated in Southeast Asia, the whole mangosteen fruit has been revered for its taste, but also for its healing properties. Historically, the whole fruit was used to treat people both topically and internally. This was done by either grinding the rind down and applying it directly to the skin or steeping it in water overnight and then drinking the resulting mangosteen tea. It has been used to restore intestinal health for centuries, as well as treat other infections. Documented internal and external use: In the book Fruits of Warm Climates, Dr. Morton calls particular attention to the importance of mangosteen rind in traditional preparations. She recorded that the mangosteen rind was sliced, dried, powdered and then administered. Often times it was first made into an ointment and then applied topically on skin disorders. Additionally, she states “the rind decoction is applied externally as an astringent lotion.” Dr. Morton also makes me

    Tradition... Tradition!
    2007-11-20 08:51:00
Picture me singing the opening number to Fiddler on the Roof here. Somehow it always gets into my head around the holidays - wonder why that would be? When I hosted Fun Monday a few weeks ago I asked to hear about your holiday traditions, but neglected to share any of mine, mainly due to the timing. A Foodie Froggy in Paris also asked for me to share a holiday recipe several weeks ago, so here I go! This is a Christmas must in all Irish homes - Christmas Pudding. If you're in the states you may have heard it referred to as Plum pudding or Figgy Pudding. Essentially it a very wet, very boozy boiled fruit cake. In England they tend to use lots of different fruits such as plums, figs, dates and the like, whereas we tend to rely more on raisins, currants, sultanas and fruit peel (I know this is called something else in the States, but can't think of what it is - candied peel maybe???) This was always a big tradition growing up. Sometime in late October or early November Mom would announce that it was time to make the Christmas puddings. We would all gather in the kitchen and be given our different tasks. Mom is a bit of a control freak, but it really worked for her here, as she made a day out of it and I have so many wonderful memories of pudding days! Mom would probably be horrified to know that I just bung all the ingredients in a bowl and mix them, but my pudding always turn out great, so she can't complain! ;-) Mom would have one of us on the margarine and sugar, someone on the eggs, someone on the fruit, someone on the booze, and it created a fine mess, but definitely a fun one! It was always an adventure trying to find a vessel big enough to mix up the puddings, and we usually had to resort to a basin! Thankfully I have a huge commercial mixing bowl which saved me disinfecting a basin this year! The height of pudding day is the mixing at the end. Everyone has to make a wish as they stir and everyone gets a turn. Don't know if the wishes come

    Family Tradition: A Cherokee Tradition
    2007-09-19 12:01:00
When my wife & I used to live in Canton off Hwy. 140, we would sometimes stop by Family Tradition resturant for lunch or dinner. We knew it would taste like a meal at Grandma's. They are known for their home cooked meals at very reasonable prices. Not only do they have a location in the Hickory Flat area on Hwy. 140 between Canton and Roswell (a new building - the old one has since been torn down), but they also have a location off of Towne Lake Parkway at Rose Creek Drive in the Publix shopping center. My wife dined there yesterday with her friend Gina. They had a delicious meal, ordering from the daily specials that included chicken & dumplings, fried green tomatoes, beef tips, meatloaf and a variety of fish. Meals come with a meat and either 2 or 3 veggies. The daily specials change but they also have fried chicken, salads, burgers, sandwiches and soups every day. The children's menu includes chicken tenders, grilled cheese, burgers, meat/veggie plate, shrimp and catfish. Family Tradition has plenty of cozy booths but also large tables. While there yesterday, the girls saw several large groups dining together. This group, some of Woodstock's finest and bravest, were enjoying their lunch together and the girls were thrilled to see them there.(Thank you for your service, guys!)Both resturants are open from 5:30 AM (a delicious breakfast) to 8:30 PM Monday through Saturday. Did I mention that they cater? When the food is that good, you almost have to cater! For more information on Family Tradition Resturant, you can CLICK HERE or call them at 770-852-2885.

New Uniforms: Toronto Sticks To Tradition, Colorado Screws The Pooch
    2007-09-13 06:04:00
Well, there were two RBK Edge "uniform system" unveilings yesterday, with one being a minor success and the other an unmitigated disaster. First of all, let me congratulate the five of the Original Six for their conservative approach to the new jersey designs. Sure, some would argue that the past is boring, but the past is what gives all professional sports the meaning they have. That and steroids. But mostly it's a respect for tradition that ties fans together and gives a sport its cultural weight. Boston, the Rangers, Detroit, Montreal and now Toronto have all maintained their uniform traditions with subtle, hard-to-notice changes to old-school looks. Response among Maple Leafs fans has been generally positive so far. The Blackhawks, the only team that could conceivably ruin the streak, release their new look tomorrow on September 14th. Let's hope for the best.On the flip side is the Colorado Avalanche. They screwed up big time. Like Florida, Nashville and the Islanders b

    2007-07-30 06:00:46
NORTH POLE, NY ? Santa?s Workshop Christmas Preview weekends were introduced in 1973 and have grown steadily ever since. The first year of the program, 39 families participated in the program. Today, over 600 families travel to North Pole, New York to take part in the festivities during the five weekends before Christmas, coming from as far away as Florida, Texas and Ohio. We are delighted to continue this wonderful Christmas tradition,? noted Bob Reiss, the park?s general manager. ?So many families return year after year to experience the magic of Christmas at Santa?s Workshop. Offering this program to different generations of the same family is extremely rewarding.? The Value of Tradition
    2007-07-28 01:30:57
Nathan over at TDA has an interesting post on the value of traditional martial arts. It’s definitely worth a read. Patrick Kane Embraces Chicago's Proud Tradition Of Failure
    2007-06-26 12:10:00
Photo courtesy Jerry Lai/APPatrick Kane, drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks as the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, threw out the first pitch as the Chicago Cubs faced the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field last night. The Cubs blew a five run lead in the top of the ninth inning but barely managed to rally in the bottom and win by one run. They still remain three games under .500 with a record of 36-39.If wearing a Cubs jersey wasn’t bad enough (disclaimer: I like the Cubs), Kane will be forced to represent another once-proud Chicago sports franchise now reduced to chronic mediocrity by misguided management, the Blackhawks, for at least the first few years of his NHL career. At least the food there is good.

Author: Jade River The feminist Dianic tradition is perhaps one of the most misrepresented traditions in Paganism. The unpleasant reputation of Dianics can be attributed to many factors. Among these are:A focus on solely female deity.Beliefs and actions which are grounded in feminist principles.Practice in women-only circles.Inclusion of large numbers of lesbians. These factors and more information on Dianic Wicca are explored in the following materials.A History of the Dianic TraditionThe Dianic tradition grew out of the feminist movement. Many early feminists were unable to validate their activism within the structures of traditional religion. This led them to seek other avenues of spiritual expression. In the early 1970s, women active in the women's movement began sharing their spiritual experiences in consciousness-raising groups. Women learned that they shared many similar spiritual feelings and had had contradictory experiences within traditional religion. This prompted a search
